My monitor won't enter power save when connected to my mac mini via HDMI

I have a mac mini connected to my Samsung monitor and when the computer goes to sleep, the monitor just sits there with "no signal" on the screen.  Usually it would go to sleep at this point, but in this case it doesn't.

thanks for your suggestions.
i found the solution/workaround from somone else on the adobe forums:
Go to control  panel, display, screen saver, choose a random screen saver, set a long time  (i.e. 60 min, but always longer than your monitor shut off time), then select no  screen saver, and save! Simple as that…

  • Monitor won't enter power save after playing You Tube videos...

    Hi
An issue has  developed on my system in the last couple of months for which, after having done  a lot of research and testing, a solution has not been found. After playing  a video in You Tube, my monitor won't go into power save mode after the  prescribed time. It tries to go off for a second and the screen goes blank but  then comes straight on again. This happens after playing the You Tube videos in  Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. I am running Windows XP  Professional and I have the latest version of Adobe Flashplayer installed,  the latest graphics card drivers, the latest version of direct x 9.0c.
To clear this error, I have to go into my XP  power schemes settings and change it to another power scheme and then change it  back to my default power scheme. However, as soon as I play another you tube  video the same problem re-occurs.
I have tried turning off hardware acceleration but this makes no difference. My graphics card is a Gigabyte gv-nx86t512h: http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2604#ov
This never used to happen  until recently. It seems that there is something with the Flashplayer that is  not compatible with Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer etc.
Any ideas as to what may be  causing this and what can be done to overcome it would be greatly appreciated as  it is a real nuisance.
    Many  thanks.

  • How can I use my TV as a display for FaceTime and the camera of my MacBook when connecting it to the TV via HDMI?

I can connect my MacBook to my TV via HDMI and when I FaceTime everything works normally except I would like the display for the MacBook to be turned off so I can see video only on my TV. Closing the lid is not an option since I am using the MacBook's camera to FaceTime. Is there any way to achieve this?

    Not that I could find.
The easiest workaround that I could find is a trimmed piece of Black Construction Paper taped over the Mac's display.
Alternatively, you could use an external Mac Compatible Web Cameras and then close the lid, but that is a higher cost option.

  • W520 Docking issue - attached monitor won't enter power saving mod

When my W520 (Win2008R2) power management profile shuts the display off (after 10 mins, for example), the externally DVI connected screen no longer receives a signal, but the screen doesn’t go into power saving mode.  Instead, the monitor stays powered on (the green power light normally turns yellow), and displays the message “Cannot display this mode”.  It’s a Dell monitor, and this message appears to be a Dell message, nothing from the Lenovo or Windows.
It’s a new W520, and a new docking station – the ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 170W.  The previous W510 and previous docking station ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 135W both worked fine with this monitor, and were able properly stop sending it a signal.
So…where do I start troubleshooting?  Is this a Lenovo docking station issue?  Are others having this problem?

    hey DougWelsby,
welcome to the forums and for this is hard to say if it is the docking station or is it something else.
is it possible for you to test a different monitor with the docking station or to have test the current monitor of yours directly with the W520 ?
If you can, do reply back with your findings.
At the same time, do hop over to http://support.lenovo.com and crosscheck the download list and ensure all drivers (including bios) is up to date.

  • Dell 2407 Monitor entering power save mode immediately!!! :(

I have a Dell 24" 2407 Monitor hooked up to my 24" iMac (white 2.16GHz core 2 duo). Problem free for the past couple of years, until recently, my monitor keeps going into power save (when the iMac screen is active.
It's connected via DVI, and the funny thing is, is that the iMac still detects the monitor, but it's in power save mode.
I plugged the monitor into the MacBook Pro and it worked fine. So I'm guessing it's either the Mini DVI to DVI converter is stuffed OR something is wrong with my iMac. I'll try another dvi cable, otherwise will have to go to shudder VGA until I get a new Mini DVI to DVI converter. Unless anyone else has an idea as to what's going on?

How about if you open System Preferences Displays pane Display tab... Click on +Gather Windows+ on the display that is working. Then try adjusting things like resolution and +color depth+ on the non-working display to see if that has any effect.
Have you tried disconnecting the power cord on the display for a few minutes and reconnecting it? Does the display have an on-screen menu, and a command to reset the settings on the display to default?
A few more tests, if it still does not work.
Create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. In the new account, does the display work or not work properly? If it works in the new account, that would indicate some problem in your regular user account.
Also try starting up from your Mac OS X installation disc. Does the display work when you are starting up from a different system? If so, that would indicate some problem in your current installed system.

  • U2312HM and second monitor = Entering Power Save Mode

So, my monitor has not been able to turn on for about a week now. It shows that it's getting power, but after 3 seconds I get the message that it is going into power save mode. I am able to press some buttons on the monitor and a message pops up that there is no signal and to try typing or moving the mouse which doesn't work. I've attempted to change the input source which only leads to "No DisplayPort Cable - The display will go into Power Save Mode in 5 minutes.".  I have tried a separate monitor which is extremely less powerful and I get the same message that it's entering power save mode. Could this be a fried video card or what's happening here?

Thanks for the reply Chris.  I do have both DVI and VGA out ports and I will be testing that today.  Not sure if this has anything to do with my issue or not but I might as well mention it.  I have 4 2 GB ram sticks which came with my pc.  I purchased two new 2 gb ram sticks due to some memory issues I was having.  The problem is, the two new ram sticks I had were not the correct size but I attempted to use them anyway.  Now prior to inserting these new ram sticks I cleaned my pc using air duster and a light suction vacuum cleaner, not sure if I got all of the dust.  Once I found that the ram sticks were not the right size I then reinserted my older ram sticks and this is when the monitor issue occurred.  A couple people had mentioned that this sounds like a bad video card, but could inserting wrong ram sticks affect the motherboard and in turn mess with the videocard?
Also, roughly 3 weeks prior to the monitor issue, the lights on the side of my case are generally dark blue (but can not confirm if this is normal as I rarely pay attention to it.)  The only reason I bring this up is because the lights began to turn red, then a sortof clear light color progressively throughout the next couple of weeks, eventually not turning on at all.  Again, I've never really noticed the lights on my pc to begin with so this could not mean a thing.

  • "Entering Power Save Mode"

Hi guys. I have an HP desktop and a Dell SR2320L Monitor. It was working fine until a few months back. I was out of town, came back last week and now every time I start my PC it just stays there "Entering Power Save Mode". I tried almost everything researching a solution for the problem but just won't work. Is there a way to check if the cable is the problem or the monitor or anything else? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
    Ankur

    Hi Ankur,
Monitor may enter in power saving mode when it does not get the enough power for its operations. If monitor is the cause, you may try to re-seat the monitor cable and ensure the connections are secure. You may also try to swap the ends of cable and check if the issue persists. Another step you may try is to use a good known cable and see if the issue persists. If it does, as a last resort you may try to reset monitor to factory defaults. For more information on this, you may refer to manual of monitor: http://bit.ly/10ErgRX
Another possible cause of the same issue might be video drivers of your computer. You might need to uninstall and re-install the video drivers and may check the power options in operating system. You might need to check the HP website for download and installation of video drivers (relevant to the system model).
    Please share the findings.

  • How can i use my smart TV as a second monitor for my Power mac (2010) via HDMI cable? i've made the connection but no options show in system prefs display.

How can i use my smart TV as a second monitor for my Power mac (2010) via HDMI cable? i've made the connection but no options show in system prefs display.
    the computer:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.9.5), 2 x 2.66 Ghz 6-Core intel Xeon
    the TV: LG Smart tv

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

  • All-in-one 6830 printer Does not enter sleep mode when connected to a phone line

HP staff  help. HP all-in-one printer 6830 does not enter sleep mode when conntected to a phone line via 1-Line jack.  The Firmware is PNP1CN1521AR. On August 1, 2015,  I purchased an HP all-in-one 6830  printer and upgraded to firmware PNP1CN1521AR.When a phone line is connected to 1-Line jack of 6830, the printer will no longer enter  sleep mode and the display remains on indefinitly.Removing the phone connection either from the wall outlet or from the printer causes the sleep mode to work correctly again where the control panel display turns off after 5 minutes (or optionally  after 10 or 15 minutes). This problem was previously reported by a user and has not been resolved, see:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Printing-Questions/Sleep-mode-of-Officejet-Pro-6830/td-p/4772182 The user did not receive a resolution to this problem according to the thread.
There seems to be a  6830 printer firmware or hardware problem causing this. HP  should be able to confirm this problem on 6830 easily.
    Please advise ASAP.
    Thanks

It's a regular analog phone line. I've tested it with other phone lines. No difference. I have another all-in-one printer which works fine (goes to sleep mode) when plugged into the same phone line.
The 6830 works ok in other aspects. The only problem is the sleep mode. Any 6830 with the firmware I mentioned should replicate the same result, regardless of anything else. The previous firmware to PNP1CN1521AR also created this problem according to the original report of this problem by another user.
I'm sure there's a bug in the firmware. A subroutine in the firmware monitoring the incoming fax ringing, mistakenly, sees the voltage across the phone jack pins as an event and wakes up the printer instantly even though there's no ringing. As the previous user also suspected, there seems to be an error in the phone line voltage threshold used by the firmware. The present firmware always sees a ringing at the phone line which causes it to never stay in sleep mode.

I converted from a PC to a Mac Mini.  I have my PC documents backed up on a DVD disk.  I have an external DVD drive connected to the Mac Mini.  I want to open these documents up from the DVD storage and save them to the Mac, BUT....when I put the DVD disk in the Mac is NOT reading it!

    Hi Joe,
Thanks for your quick response.  I should add....it worked before.  When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac.  Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed.  I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD.  SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac, especially where I could open it previously.  I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc.  The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents.  I just want to be able to see them in the finder.  I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents.  Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
    Any additional advice?
    Thank you!

  • My Apple wireless keyboard won't connect to my Mac mini any more.

My Apple wireless keyboard won't connect to my Mac mini any more. Going through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant doesn't help - the computer finds the keyboard, but when I type in the pass code it fails to pair with it. The green LED on the bottom of the keyboard flashes twice at roughly two-second intervals. I've tried replacing the batteries and this has had no effect. I have all the latest software updates installed.

    Welcome Cheirhandrea!
There are easily hundreds of variants of the iMac dating back to 1998. Many of the pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers cannot support an Apple wireles keyboard. Because this model has been in production for so long, it is important for you to let us know as much about your computer as possible so someone won't give you information that may not be appropriate to your iMac variant.
    So we need to know:
    1) Your processor type and Mac OSX version, both available by doing "About this Mac" from your Apple menu at the left end of the menu bar:
    2) The make and model of the keyboard.
I asked for your Mac OS version because "iOS" as currently shown in your equipment profile cannot run on any Mac computer, only Apple's mobile devices. Once you get the OS version from "About this Mac," please change your profile to avoid further confusion and get help faster without the delay of someone having to ask for clarification before they can start helping.

  • When connected to my Mac my iPad says "not charging", but it does seem to sync.  What am I doing wrong?

My iPad says "not charging" when connected to my Mac, but it does seemo sync.  What am I missing?

A lot of computers (especially older ones) generally do not provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.

  • Does the ipod nano charge quickly when connected to a mac?

    hi everyone.
I recently switched from windows to a macbook. i noticed that my ipod nano(second generation) charges quickly when connected to the mac as compared to when i connected it to my pc? is this possible or is there something wrong with my ipod? it is 11 months since i got my nano. kindly help.
    this is my first post

I assume you're talking about using the Apple cable with either component or composite cables. On a non-HD TV, the quality is quite good. I'm not sure what you mean about picture size. It doesn't letter box anything, if that's what you mean. Used to do it a lot when I went away for the weekend. It was an easy way to take iTunes rental movies with me and watch them on a big screen. I've never tried with my HD TV because i haven an Apple TV and there's no need.
    Best of luck.

  • My folders on my QNAP NAS turned to be exec files when listed on my mac mini - not being accessible. When I restart the QNAP or my MAC I can see tham as a normal folder until my MacMini goes asleep and after awaking it I have again exe files.

I have a QNAP NAS which is connected to my Mac Mini.
When turning on I see my folders as folders, although one folder (might be too big) is not present.
After my computer turns off in energy saving mode and after starting it again, some of the folders turned to "exec" (black tile with green letters). They are not accessible anymore.
On my Windows machine and via the QNAP filesystem they are stil accessible.
The folders I talk about are full of Camera RAW files and XML-files (belonging to the camera raw files) as well as jpg and tiff files.
    Who can help me....

Thanks for the obvious question. I mean it. The very same thought came to me this morning and, sure enough, I had booted into another drive--my old one that, of course, had the old desktop, etc.
It didn't dawn on me that this was the case since I hadn't set it as a boot drive but I guess in the course of all the restarts I did, it got switched.
    I'm back to normal again.
