My mouse cursor is slightly off to the left

This is an annoying problem and affects all apps.
If I want to select text and place my cursor just before the first character, it skips it.
If I want to "x-out" my small Opera tabs, I actually have to almost click outside of the X to the left to close it.
This becomes evident also in mouse-overs. It'll mouse-over even before hovering on top.
I tried searching all over, found that some had a similar problem but no solution. Maybe some here have advice? I tried to browser zoom thingy to no avail. It affects the Apple Mail buttons as well so seems like it goes "deeper" than that. I'd appreciate any help.
Edit: This problem appeared recently. It hasn't been around long. I just can't pinpoint at what instance and circumstance. Mouse is MX518 that's I've used in 5 Macs in 6 years without any problems like this. I had installed Logitech's useless control center which doesn't even support the MX518. I uninstalled it and installed USB Overdrive. It was after some time of using USB Overdrive that I started noticing problems. Thinking that it was the culprit, I uninstalled it but nothing happened.

It does appear so. It could be in /Library/ but nothing in /System/Library/ You won't need to touch the System Library.
It would be good to test a USB mouse to see if that is different, otherwise it could be a stab in the dark on what the affected file is and where. If it's drivers, contact the manufacturer/developer of the drivers.
Also, if you click and drag on the desk top, does the point actually match up with the bottom right corner of the rectangle? If it doesn't, the actual cursor image may be off and something installed may be causing that.
Also, try Safe boot, hold shift when the computuer boots(on the chime if kb is wireless, or prior if USB KB). You will see a grey progress bar to indicate it is starting. This mode will prevent any third party software from starting on boot.

Does the App launch form the Applications Folder rather than the DOCK ?
The icons in the DOCK are links to the App. Sometimes this link can get broken.

Application screen flying off to the left when the mouse is moved left

Can you help a newby to this world of imac.I don't know if it is some setting that I have upset but if I move my mouse to the left of the screen, whatever application I have showing,shoots off to the left or flies upward off the screen. I bring it back by clicking usually to the left and dragging it back to the centre; very frustrating.Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.Thank you in advance

sounds like the fall caused some damage. get it replaced through apple

Fire fox is not loading face book, the page is all off to the left and it just keeps trying to load, and there are no pictures

i have be trying to load facebook all day, but it just tries to load and the writing is all off to the left, and keeps trying to load. the face book login page is magnified and all wonky. i thought it may be a task bar , so i had the Zynga tool bar removed, but the problem still exist...

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

the mouse cursor moves away from the current application without the mouse having been moved - this started with the new version - re-installing Firefox makes the problem go away for a short period - re-installing is not a solution

It's probably one of three things:
#your mouse is getting old (this behavior is common in old optical mouses);
#you have software that is making your mouse cursor behave unexpectedly (I know of an option in Windows that will automatically move your mouse to windows buttons...);
#or you may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Baffling mouse cursor freezes if I remove the WIRED ethernet connection??

I just installed XP professional on my S10 model 4231 bios 14cn34ww dated 08/26/2008
so if I run it connected to the lan using the wired connector all is well BUT the moment I take out the rj45 the mouse cursor freezes. If I plug it back in then all is well again.
I want to use this outside so I need to get this fixed.
any ideas please?

It sounds like there's a possible short somewhere on the system.
Try to do the following:
1. Restart the computer in Safe Mode with Networking (continuously press F8 during boot-up).
2. If all is well, perform a clean boot and observe.
3. If same problem, open Network Connections (press Windows Key + R, then type ncpa.cpl)
4. On the network connections, disable the Local Area Connection.(do a right click > disable)

5. After disabling the LAN, reboot into normal mode & try to use the Touchpad
6. If the Touchpad responded without any issues, try to re-install both the Ethernet driver and then re-install theTouchpad driver

Oy. You beat your head for hours and finally concede to asking for help, only to solve it two minutes later. Here's the answer.
In the inspector, on the Layout tab, there's a checkbox that reads, "Show Thumbnail Track".
UNCHECK that box and the gutter goes away.

Satellite L650-12Q - Sound shifted off to the left

Purchased a Satellite L650-12Q yesterday. I'm happy but I listen to quite a lot of music on my laptop through headphones. I've noticed that the sound is panned somewhat to the left, rather than spread evenly across left and right of my headphones. This is across several types of music - my mp3s, youtube clips etc. The only thing that was really 'central' was a track that is virtually mono (if not actually mono). I've listened to the same track on my old laptop, on my mp3 player (with the same headphones) and there's definitely a shift to the left headphone.
I know there's no issue with the headphones themselves, and I'm discounting a dodgy connection - so could it be how the sound is being processed through to the headphones (through the speakers on the laptop, the sound appears to be evenly spread.) and if it is, what can I do about it?
Any thoughts?

Took a look at the Sound settings, and lurking in Sounds>Playback>(Speaker) Properties>Dolby, it was defaulted to Audio Enhancement (not the issue) BUT ALSO defaulted to Surround Sound. When I disable Surround Sound ... lo and behold, I'm back in the world of Stereophonic Sound, and the L/R balance is good.
(Not sure why the default would be Surround Sound)
I guess it might explain why the mono sound was the only thing that was OK.
Anyway, problem fixed, and thanks for the response, it's much appreciated.

Hourglass Icon Next To Mouse Cursor Flickers On/Off C0ntinuously while on Google Mail Page

I am using Firefox 8.0
Whenever I go to check my email with Google Mail the hourglass symbol next to my mouse pointer / cursor keeps flickering on and off. This only happens when I use Firefox. It does not happen with IE. I don't have this issue with any other website that I visit using Firefox. When I close the tab that has the google mail instance, the flickering stops.

I figured out what was causing it. When I disabled the Google Talk Pluggins, the cursor stopped with repeated hourglass reads / flickering. Fire Fox must note like the Google Talk Pluggins.

My mouse is not active when I am in the windows in firefox. I can still click and activate options on the toolbar, but cannot activate within a tab or window. I have to use the tab option on my keyboard to move through the window and press enter to submit.

Why do the sound balance settings change every time i start up my MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.4. I set balance to middle and it reappears way off to the left or right and the volume is at maximum.

I set the balance and sound levels on my MacBook Pro 10.8.4 but when I start up again the balance has shifted to one channel or the other [left or right] and the volume has become maximum. Does not always happen but frequently does. Any ideas?

It should remain the way you have adjusted them. Delete the System Preferences.plist per these instructions:

My mouse cursor disappears behind the picture I'm working with!

While I was working on a picture in Photoshop, my mouse cursor disappeared. No crosshairs (I've already tried turning the caps lock on and off). It was just gone. I moved my mouse around and it appears whenever I choose a new tool or when I'm working with the layers or when I use something from the drop down bar, the mouse is there when I don't have anything open in Photoshop--just when I have the program open--but whenever I start working on a picture or a blank canvas it disappears, like it's going underneath the canvas (I found I can still draw and erase on the canvas, I just can't tell where since the cursor is gone). This is frustrating because I use Photoshop to create my digital artwork and my drawing pad is small, so I need to know where my cursor is in order to draw accurately.
Things I've done to resolve the problem thus far: I've downloaded the current Adobe update, I've tried adjusting my advanced properties settings on my computer, I've tried readjusting my cursor settings in my preferences, I've tried resetting my presets--thinking I might have miss clicked a combination of keys to make it happen--I've also tried closing out and going back into Photoshop, even turned my computer off, let it sit, and then turned it back on. But my mouse cursor continues to disappear underneath the canvas.
I plan on uninstalling and then reinstalling my Photoshop software--I hope that works. Otherwise, if that doesn't, does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Okay, so I figured this out how to resolve this issue a few days after posting my question. If you have the Nezumi Pro plugin for your Photoshop there is an option in the Nezumi settings to hide your cursor which can be easily activated by simply miss clicking F6. Once I figured this out and changed my cursor settings back to normal, my mouse reappeared.

Mouse cursor leaping off screen?

Every now and then, at random, the mouse cursor goes screaming off the screen (a silent scream). A swipe of the mouse brings it back.
I'm trying to figure what might be causing this, dirty mouse?, heat of mousing hand?, mousing pad?
Or the devil messing with my head?

I'll check it out. I rarely have sweaty palms ... but for some strange reason (3,000 miles from my BC home, in Montreal) I'm discovering sweaty palms. Mmmm. Maybe it's the hovering over the laptop. I'm usually working on a tower. That must be it, heat from the laptop.
Thank you again, I'll check the article. I was once visiting a grow-op in BC. They had these huge shipping barrels of Snapple (the Snapple removed) that they were using for their water supply. I noticed the corp warning tags still attached to the barrels, about how the contents were carcinogenic and proven dangerous to lab rats - or something in that order.
But Snapplebook may be something entirely different, and have absolutely no relation. I just finished a particularly strong cup of coffee - so the brain is over modulating.
