My mouse goes crazy

In order to start the X-Windows, I edited /etc/devfsd.conf and put the lines espicifacted in the InstallGuide. Well, Xfce runs ok, the cursor moves ok, but the buttons don´t work propertly, and I proved all the drivers for my Genius Optical Netscroll (with xf86cfg). What is the problem?
One thing: my xfree86 package was corrupt, and I force to install it. May be cause of this?
And for last: the /dev directory is created ever time that linux starts? Because I create my simlink /dev/misc/psaux --> /dev/mouse, but it disappears.
PD: apologizes for my english.

XFree86 4.x supports wheel mice, however many toolkits and programs do not yet support them. Gtk+/Gnome and Qt/KDE support wheel mice.
1. As root, edit your XFree86 config file.
2. In the mouse section, make sure your protocol is set up correctly. Here are some (not all) of the possible values:"ImPS/2","ExplorerPS/2". Add the following lines.
Option"ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option"Buttons" "5"
That's all there is to it.
PS: Never needed to change an devfsd.conf entry to have XFree86 running. And I use a laptop that has ps/2, serial, usb and touchpad mouse, whatever you connect or use.
PSS: devfsd creates /dev/... dynamicly, yes. If you don't want that, you should not use devfsd, because this is what it was meant to do!

• PS2 mouse goes crazy on T8000

Hi there,
When i trie to use a Trust optical mouse with my T8000, this mouse goes crazy. The "internal mouse" in the keyboard keeps working perfectly... but that's who wants to use that?
Ideas anyone?

Hi
It is not easy to explain why this happened. In my opinion you should try with another external mouse. Try also to disable internal mouse while you use an external one.
Check also BIOS settings. There is an option called Pointing Device or something like that. Try to change from Auto-selected to Simultaneous.

• Mighty Mouse going crazy

Hi,
When my mighty mouse first freaked out, it was time to clean him.. So problem solved but this time, he 's going nuts. When I only tough him, all of my windows disappear, the same way they disappear when you click to see your desktop.. When it goes that way, I try to click and when I do that it freaks out. My windows appear - disappear, appear - disapear. Only when I use the mouse-pad on my MacBook, it stops.. What could it be and can somebody please help me?

Are you using only a MacBook? Or is this connected to an iMac G5? In any case try resetting the PRAM and see if that calms the mouse down. You might also try changing your mouse pad to a solid color.

• Mouse going crazy

Hi,
I'm running an iMac 20" 10.5.7 hardware is 1.5 years old. Mouse runs all over the screen on it's own. Went and bought a new mouse as the last ones scroll wheel died. Thought the two were related, but it's getting worse even with the new mouse.
Software and firmware is all uptodate per my software updater.
Also totally unrelated to the mouse, about 6 months ago all the pixels went out in a horizontal line across the middle of my screen. ***** totally. Is that a hardware fix?
Thanks

Try cleaning the trackpad. Fingerprints and smudges can cause erratic tracking behavior.

Hi bythejerseyshore,
This is not an expected Firefox feature :-/
I would recommend running a malware scan. Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
* [http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363 TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility]
* [http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/ Hitman Pro]
* [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.
It may also be the mouse driver or Java. Please make sure all your exensions are updated. Check out plugincheck [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/]

• Mouse goes crazy periodically, new browser pages open at back, cannot left click

I thought it was the mouse, but new batteries, and then a new mouse didn't change things. Restarting fixes it for awhile. (13" MacBook Pro with retina display - late 2013).

I had saved one copy as an .asp but then resaved it to .xhtml
I'm assuming this is a static web site. Rename (F2) all your pages with .html or .htm extension.
.xhtml is not a valid extension.

• New Bluetooth Mightymouse goes crazy on certain mouse pads

I just bought a new wireless Mightmouse from Amazon UK and started using it, only to discover that it goes crazy when placed on certain mouse pads. The cursor starts moving all over the screen if I even place the mouse on the pad without moving it. I have three mouse pads here and only one can be used (it has a plastic cover). The other two, a thin one and a thicker, rubbery one (both cloth covered) cause the mouse to get a life of its own. A plain white desktop works ok, too, but in some cases I need to use a mouse pad, for example, when working on a garden table that has slits.
I tried it with all wireless stuff off (airport unplugged, etc.), but still the same. From what I have seen posted here, there seem to be some odd problems with this mouse. I wonder if I should return it? Could it be a hardware problem? Or maybe a software problem?
(This is on a new Macbook Pro 17inch.)

Hello Apple:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
I would return it. There is no reason that the mouse would be +"pad sensitive."+ I have found that the optical mice do need a pad to work well.

• When using Live View, site looks great, browser testing goes crazy

I am creating a new website (and I am really unexperienced with Dreamwaver CS5). But when I check my site using "Live View" everything looks great, the way it is supposed to. Then when I go to test it in my browswer (Primary browser is Chrome) it goes crazy: I at first noticed that I had saved one copy as an .asp but then resaved it to .xhtml I did delete the first line of code already that the .asp file created as it kept giving me an error on line 1.
Then I tried to do a spry drop-down menu bar, which I have deleted since I thought I was doing something wrong with that and I should just stick to what I half-way know.
If I were to preview the template page it gives me this error:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 150 at column 76: error parsing attribute name
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
Here is line 150:
if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}
If I were to test the index.xhtml page in the browser, it ignores most images (all but one), and the first nav-bar (an editable region) appears to the left instead of under the header. The layout is totally ignored and everything is on the left-hand side of the screen instead of in a two column layout.
I am not testing this on a server just off of my computer.
I am assuming that the error has something to do with the .asp file I first did and when I resaved it, since I don't know what I would be looking for, is still in there screwing it up.
Here is the code from the template page:

1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.

Instructions

Be aware that the CSS for these layouts is heavily commented. If you do most of your work in Design view, have a peek at the code to get tips on working with the CSS for the fixed layouts. You can remove these comments before you launch your site. To learn more about the techniques used in these CSS Layouts, read this article at Adobe's Developer Center - http://www.adobe.com/go/adc_css_layouts.

Clearing Method

Because all the columns are floated, this layout uses a clear:both declaration in the .footer rule. This clearing technique forces the .container to understand where the columns end in order to show any borders or background colors you place on the .container. If your design requires you to remove the .footer from the .container, you'll need to use a different clearing method. The most reliable will be to add a <br class="clearfloat" /> or <div class="clearfloat"></div> after your final floated column (but before the .container closes). This will have the same clearing effect.

Logo Replacement

An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.

Logo Replacement

Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.

To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)

Backgrounds

By nature, the background color on any div will only show for the length of the content. This means if you're using a background color or border to create the look of a side column, it won't extend all the way to the footer but will stop when the content ends. If the .content div will always contain more content, you can place a border on the .content div to divide it from the column.

• Scroll bar goes crazy and active window jumps around in size - Help

I've got iTunes 7.0.5 installed. If I use iTunes for any length of time, my system goes crazy. The scroll bar on whatever program I make active goes up and down like mad, while the content of the active window shrinks and magnifies in size multiple times a second. It's very bizarre and consistently happens only when I run iTunes for some length of time. I have no problem if I choose Windows Media Player. It's very disturbing, as I can no longer use iTunes. Any help in knowing how to fix the problem, or even to trouble shoot it further, would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a couple of thoughts on the Timeline scrolling and other possible display issues:
1.) make sure that you have the very latest video driver - the very latest
2,) if you have Vista, turn Aero and Sidebar off
3.) if you have Window Blinds, get the very latest version
4.) if you have an InteliPoint mouse driver, try removing it, and using the standard Windows mouse driver instead*
5.) if you have a laptop and both the touch-pad and a mouse are installed and ON, turn the touch-pad OFF
These are some suggestions that might affect your display issues.
Good luck,
Hunt
* The MS InteliPoint has caused many display issues with Adobe products. Most often, these have manifested themselves in flashing GUI's and similar, but other odd behaviors have been experienced. If the removal of InteliPoint does help, try the very latest version, but be ready to revert to the standard Windows mouse driver.

• My keyboard occasionally goes crazy, not allowing me to type. Also, cursor goes crazy and opens pages and windows at will. Help!

My typing cursor frequently goes crazy, not allowing me to type and jumping from place to place, deleting letters. Suddenly, a line I have typed will be highlighted and deleted at will. Also, mouse cursor moves at will, opening multiple pages in seconds. Help! What could be causing this, and how can I stop it?
I've had my Macbook pro for over a year and it has never done this before. Restarting the computer fixes the problem temporarily.

My first thought was the hard drive and OS has a built in Sudden Motion Sensor whcih will stop the hard drive heads from crashing into the platters when the computer is moved suddenly. This does work most of the time and could cause some of the tings you are seeing.
But then after reading more of your first post it seems your system and drive is doing some very strange things.
It would be best to first take it into an Apple Genius Bar and have it looked at. They can run tests on it and since it is still in the original 1 year warranty this should not cost you anything even if something needs to be replaced.
You can also run the Apple Hardware Test on it your self by connecting it to the Net by Ethernet cable and booting holding down the d key or the Command+d keys. That will boot the computer from the Apple internet servers and load the AHT.
Good Luck.

Logic works fine until recording then goes crazy. As if someone is pressing down on the keypad space bar & down keys. The mouse becomes very hard to control. (jumping about) I have to quit Logic to get rid of it. Any ideas what I can do ?

I've tracked the problem down to my 'Shuttle Pro' (used for sending key commands to logic). Somehow it is deciding to send loads of messages after i hit record

It is static electricity that is causing it. When I touch the left mouse button with my finger the static discharges and the screen goes crazy.

• Help, iMac 27'' wireless keyboard types weird symbols, and mouse is crazy

Hello, I have had my iMac for about 6 months, and its been fine up until a few days ago. I downloaded an update, and now its going crazy.
When I type, the keyboard acts as though my alt key is stuck, and I get characters like: œ∑®∂¥†∫≤∫≈. But my volume control keys do not work. When I restart my computer, its fine for about an hour, then the crazy characters start again.
Also, when I am in Safari, my mouse downloads EVERY link I click on, as if I were right-clicking, then downloading the link.
If I use my remote, the Sound menu appears, instead of raising the volume.
Another thing I noticed, in my Apple menu, my "About this Mac" menu is gone. The icon closest to the top is the system preferences.
When I tried to check the keyboard preferences, bluetooth cannot find the keyboard. I'm thinking it may be a software problem, but I am not certain. I checked to make sure that my language in my system preferences was set to english, and no other languages are checked.
I also tried to re-download the OS X 10.6.4, I also downloaded the 10.6.4 Combo update.
I am soooo frusterated at this point, if anyone has any idea of what is going on, please help! Thank you for your help.

FWIW, you might want to try if _*resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM*_ helps.
another thing to try is booting your Mac into _*safe mode*_, repairing permissions while in safe mode, then rebooting normally.

• Macbook Pro literally going crazy

My mac had been working perfectly fine until this past friday.... I went out and came home and it just went crazy.
First thing that is going on:
It's like someone has a mouse and has taken over my computer, if it's not the menu buttons going crazy then it's like someone is constantly tabbing to all the folders on my desktop and when i type it's like someone is holding down the arrow to go back to the beginning.
Second thing that is going on:
I will shut the lid down, but it won't go to sleep, the apple keeps glowing and fading, glowing and fading... the fans keep running and if i leave it for any amount of time like that, it gets extremely hot.
Third thing.... my arrow keeps flickering in and out....
It's just so bizarre... this was a great machine until friday and now it's aggravating the crap out of me.
I've run tests and everything says it's all ok, but it just doesn't make sense.
It's like it has a mind of it's own.
any help would be great.

I think I've seen similar symptoms on a mbp Santa Rosa 2.2 GHZ with the infamous 8600m GT Card. The owner had brought it back to an Apple Store and they had repaired it under the program related to Article TS2377 (MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues).
