My mouse pointer jumps to the top left corner every second

Hi
I recently bought a Mac Mini, hoping to get into iOS development, everything was fine, but recently the mouse pointer has started jumping to the top left corner of the screen, this happens every time I try to move it, within 1 second of my moving the mouse, it's jumped back.
It's made the system unusable.
I've searched online and found other people saying that their mouse pointers jump every two or three minutes, but mine jumps within a second of me moving it. I have two Dell monitors attched via apple HDMI to DVI and Displayport to DVI adaptors. I've tried different mice, it's still the same.
The problem is, even if there's a fix, I'm not sure that I could apply it, as I can't use the mouse at all.
Can any one help?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    Anytime I move my mouse my current window that is open disappears. When I move my mouse to the top left corner it comes back. How do I turn this off? It's not a Zoom issue, it disappears completely. Help please.

    Are you running 10.6 Snow Leopard as your profile indicates?
    If so, it sounds like maybe an Expose or Active Screen Corners issue?
    Go to Apple > System Preferences > Expose & Spaces > Expose and
    1. experment with the Active Screen Corners selections
    2. take a look at your F key settings for Expose
    3. lastly check your Dashboard settings

  • How do i fix a frozen mouse? It is stuck in the top left corner of the screen.

    How do I fix a mouse that is frozen in the top left corner of the screen? I have tried rebooting and unplugging but it will not un freeze it.

    I didn't even suggest that because I would have thought that would be the first thing anyone would have checked for!   If you flip the on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse do you have a blinking green light?  Whether you do or don't, if you are unsure of the batteries then replace them.

    Okay so I had a fan error I took the laptop apart to clean the fan it worked "I think"A  lock now appeared in the top left corner With another symbol next to it which looks like a computer but its so small I can't tell so is there anyway to get around this otherwise if there isn't my job is at stake and with this economy I think I just might jump off a bridge after talking with my psychiatrist of course I changed my mine... Any ideas send me ASAP!!! I have no time to watse. so let me tell you what i have tried i have tried holding the esc key after boot up for different boot up choices and and i have tried F8 also i even tried F12... idk why and i have tried the 'Fn" key with the lock symbol on my keybooard to see what that would do i don't know what else to do with only another harddrive, 2 (2gb;1Gb) more ram, and the tools to take apart the laptop. I would be so happy to know i won't have to spend money on this machine cuz i am in the negetives here just barely living... help me or im outta the picture for good as to be honest this laptop is my life and it has everything i need on it to succeed in the near future along with many expensive programs that could make or break me. jeez im hopeless right now this  is it i've googled to the point i was gonna pick up this desktop at this library and smash it and walk out like nothing even happened.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Remove keyboard
    block fan-propeller with a match or toothpick
    blow compressed air through the fan ribs from outside into the notebook.
    finally clean the fan gently with a vacuum cleaner while the fan still is blocked with the match/toothpick
    If the fan error still comes up, you'll need a new fan/heat sink.

  • Getting the top left corner of a grid cell (math problem)

    I'm making a map editor for a tile based game. The editor makes a grid:
    private function drawGrid():void {
                var grid:Sprite = new Sprite();
                var tileSize:uint= 50;
                for(var i:int=0;i<row;i++)
                    grid.graphics.lineStyle(1,0x000000,0.3);
                    grid.graphics.moveTo(0, i*tileSize);
                    grid.graphics.lineTo(700, i*tileSize);
                for(var j:int=0;j<column;j++)
                    grid.graphics.lineStyle(1,0x000000,0.3);
                    grid.graphics.moveTo(j*tileSize, 0);
                    grid.graphics.lineTo(j*tileSize, 400);
                stage.addChild(grid);
    And when the user clicks anywhere in the screen a movieclip is added to stage. The movieclip (exported for actionscript as Tile) should be placed in the top left corner of the grid cell.
    private function placeTile(mouseX:int, mouseY:int, frame:uint):void {
                var tile:Tile = new Tile();
                tile.gotoAndStop(frame);
                tile.x = PROBLEM HERE
                tile.y = PROBLEM HERE
                stage.addChild(tile);
    How can I do that? I came up with an idea but it didn't work because I have a math problem.  Let's pretend that the user mouse is at position mouseX = 456:
    I could remove the hundreds and use the quotient 56 and check if it is above 50. If it is above 50 I would place it at x = 500 if not I would place it at x = 450. How can I remove the hundreds? Do you have a better idea?

    Thanks. I asked a friend and he told me about the %but I still had a problem. Your expression solved my problem
            private function placeTile(mouseX:int, mouseY:int, frame:uint):void {
                var tile:Tile = new Tile();
                tile.gotoAndStop(frame);
                tile.x = Math.floor(mouseX / tileSize) * tileSize;
                tile.y = Math.floor(mouseY / tileSize) * tileSize;
                stage.addChild(tile);
    That way every tile is centered every 50 pixels

  • My imac 21.5" 2010 model heats up in the top left corner (backside) when iphoto is on ad trying to generate thumbnails? Can anyone help as to why this is. It has been serviced and passed all heating tests? Thanks in advance

    I just had my iMac sent away for repair as it kept heating up to the point where you could not touch the top left corner of the machine. It really only heats up when i open iPhoto and it is generating thumbnails for all the events. (Some reason it has lost all the thumbnails).
    The Mac came back yesterday and they replaced the fans and cleaned out the machine and it has passed all heating tests.

    As user Seventy one recommended above, the "iStatPro" Free software is very useful in determining just how hot your internal hardware components are getting.  You could post some of the temp readings from it here so we can comment on them.

  • After I have reset my network settings to clear a previous problem, the top left corner just stays at 'searching' and doesn't display my service carriers name as usual.

    After doing the network reset on my iphone 4, the top left corner of the screen which usually displays my carriers name just keeps saying 'searching'. I have tried looking elsewhere at this site for a solution to my problems but I'm still coming up empty.
    Can someone help me PLEASE!

    Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
    Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
    Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
    LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • My MacBook Pro just turned itself off while installing Windows 7. It has now got a black screen with a white flashing bar in the top left corner...what can I do?

    I was just installing windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro. I selected to have 200GB for Windows and the rest leave for Mac.
    I clicked install and the bar filled up as it should do. However, once the install had completed, my MacBook turned itself off. I assumed this was normal. Now, my MacBook has a black screen with a white flashing underscore in the top left corner.
    What is wrong and what should I do?

    Hold down the Option key when starting up then on the sceen that comes up select Mac OS X to boot from.
    The Win 7 install didn't go well and is hung in some way. You should use boot camp assistant to remove the win partition and start over.
    Make sure you are using a Retail version of Win 7. A Branded OEM version, like ones from Dell and HP, will NOT work to install Windows 7 on your Mac.

  • How do I get the orange firefox button to show up on the top left corner of my page?

    So, I've installed, and reinstalled the new Firefox 4. It seems like only half the features have shown up. For example, I don't have the orange firefox button in the top left corner. I also don't have the button for bookmarks. On every other machine that I've installed firefox 4 on has not had issues like this. I don't know why I'm having issues on my laptop. If there's a way to fix it, I would appreciate it. I don't mind how it is right now, but I do like the cleaner look and the orange firefox button, instead of the buttons that show up now that are labeled: "File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, etc."

    * You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).
    * If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.

  • How do I get my Sony ebook Reader to show up ("be recognized") in the top left corner??

    How do I get my Sony ebook reader to show up ("be recognized") in the top left corner of the window.  It never shows up and I cannot transfer books from my Mac computer to ADE.  I am using Sony Reader Library but it is developing problems!!  Can anyone assist??

    No solution yet.  One would think that Adobe would recognize that several complaints  have been reported on this problem.  Obviously, nobody knows how to fix it!!  Sorry I can't be helpful!!

  • On my iPhone when I go on phone to view my contacts on the top left corner there is a circle with a arrow ( like a refresh icon ), just want to know what is it?

    On my iPhone when I go on phone to view my contacts on the top left corner there is a circle with a arrow ( like a refresh icon ), just want to know what is it?

    That's exactly what it does, refresh your contacts. As an example if you add a contact on your Mac or iPad and you use iCloud to sync them altogether, then this can be used to refresh the contacts on your iPhone.

  • Every time I scroll, there's a clicking sound coming from the top left corner of my macbook

    Similar to the clicking sound of my hard drive, every time I scroll, or whenever there is any sort of animation on my screen, there's a similar clicking sound coming from the top left corner on my , around the area where the microphone is. I know the hard drive is at the bottom right corner, so is this a graphics card issue or am I overlooking the issue?

    It is better to take the MBP to the Apple store for evaluation.
    They have the diagnostic tools to make sure that there is no problem with the computer.

  • Under Windows 7, 64-bit, Firefox intermittently will not open a new window - all I get is a grey screen, with a tiny part of my homepage displayed in the top left corner of the screen.

    The problem began after a recent Firefox update. Occasionally, when I try to open a new Firefox window, all I get is a grey screen with a tiny section of my homepage visible in the top left corner of the screen. NOTE: Firefox stores all of these aborted attempts, as, whenever I close it and then re-open it, the first time I open a new window it automatically opens all of the windows that had originally failed to open.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == on or about June 26, 2010

    Got the exact same problem aswell, finally fed up with it now as i just started up firefox and 14 new windows opened because of this bug, luckily my computer can handle them but someone with a slower processor it would have been a nightmare, needs fixing ASAP.
    Reverting back to 3.6.3 until this issue is solved. (link for anyone wanting to do the same below)
