My mouse scroll ball will not scroll down.

Unfortunately the Mighty Mouse is known to have issues when scrolling if it gets dirty. The best you can do is hold it upside down and roll the ball back and forth in every direction for a minute or so, this should help clean it any it may start working again. My school's multimedia lab has 20 workstations that all have that mouse and about half of them work! I'd recommend moving to the magic mouse or another brand's mouse if cleaning does not fix it.

Finally an answer that works!
I had a mouse that would not scroll up. Down or side to side worked fine.
I tried cleaning the wheel with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, as this had worked several times before. But it had no effect today. I tried the "lint free soft cloth lightly moistened" trick too, but this did not help, either, even after watching the demonstration video and turning the mouse upside down. But unplugging the mouse, and applying some pressure while rolling the ball upside down on a piece of clean paper is what did the trick! Thank you for saving me from this incredible annoyance!

I have a mighty mouse I use with my iMac and I cannot seem to get it to scroll down (any window) lately. The scroll ball does scroll up, but not down. I did reset the mouse, but is it time for a cleaning? I have used it for about 7-8 months. Thanks for the replies.

Great adivce. My MM is 2 years old and just stared suffering the tortures of the damned. Tried it with water and dry with no joy. Tossed some rubbing alcohol on a bath towel. Did the trick despite lint. Work good for now.

I've had this Imac for a year and have had no problems until the mouse and trackpad both stopped scrolling a few weeks ago. I'm guessing it is some setting that is causing this since both are not working but I'm about to toss this out the window cause Apple makes it nearly impossible to use the software without the ability to scroll and swipe. some people are used to trackpads scrolling when they move their finger out in the right side or the likes
with newer macs one scroll by placing 2 fingers beside eachother and moving them up and down

Im having trouble with the scrolling button on the mouse. It will not scroll "down" only up and side to side. I tried cleaning it by turning it upside down and rolling it on a lint-free surface as suggested but still no working. Any other suggestions?

The "upside down" thing is the standard fix. Try rolling the ball (vigorously) on a microfiber cloth.

Tracker ball on 8900 will not move down.

So my blackberry, which is on contract to orange uk has again broken. the problem is that the tracker ball will not move down. it moves from left to right and moves up but doesnt move down. you can guess this is rather annoying! I have had it fixed a few months ago for the same problem but it was a bit pricey! I was wondering could you help me with this?

Try rolling it around on a baby wipe if you have one, if not some alcohol gel, or vodka on a tissue may work. Failing that you could take the trackball out and clean the sensors, it's fiddly but it does work. It's quite simple to do if you have the right screw drivers. I even managed it, and I'm a girl

Scroll bar does not scroll far enough to view last page in thumbnail images

When using Adobe Acrobat, and have the thumbnails/pages panel open on the left side, the scroll bar will not scroll far enough down to show the last row of thumbnails. For example, have a 40-page document open with the Pages Panel open showing page thumbnails in rows of 3. When the scroll bar reaches the bottom, the last row shows pages 37, 38, and 39. Where is page 40? If you look closely, you can see a sliver of the top of the thumbnail below page 37. There is no way to view the thumbnail because it is at the bottom of the list, and your scroll bar has reached its end.
Is it confirmed that this is a bug in Adobe? If yes, is there any hotfix available for it?

You have to remember, where the scroll ball is, there is a small gap which picks up dust and fluff. That detritus gets everywhere and in your case affects the downward scroll.
Adding just a touch Linc Davis's suggestion, after you have vigorously rubbed the scroll ball on the pad, tap it on a hard surface from time to time. Sometimes you will see small amounts of fluff appear. You should also see dirty marks on the pad.

I have a wirelss mouse (not a Magic Mouse). The poor creature will not scroll down, infact when using the track button to scroll down, it will go up. Any suggestions as to how this can be cured. When I had Apple Care (it is now expired) of the experts suggested rubbing a piece of paper vigoursly over the button a few dozen times - however the mouse now seems to have developed a resistence to this treatment.

If it's a mighty mouse with the trackball on top, turn it over and rub the ball vigorously on a sheet of paper or microfiber cloth. The debris jamming the rollers should break free.

Are you using and Apple mouse? If you go to the system preferences and then to the "mouse" section there are options to change the natural scrolling. And if you go to System Preferences and then to "general" you can set it to show or hide the scroll bars.

Hello, I switched to firefox as my main browser, much better than IE9 in vista 32 bit. I am using a Hp Pavilion entertainment PC laptop with a HP wireless mini mouse and the scroll wheel will not move the web pages up or down, works okay in IE9. I can use the keyboard to scroll and cursor click arrows okay, I really like the mouse wheel better. Thanks for your help.
