My mouse won't properly work after I added a trackpad
Hello,
I bought an iMac earlier this year. it came with the Bluetooth magic mouse. I used it for a while and decided to give the Bluetooth trackpad a try. The trackpad worked fine from the first minute and is still working fine, but I found that for select applications or websites, I might prefer the mouse, so I turned the mouse on again.
First assumption: You can have both devices running at the same time. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Now that I try to use the mouse, it can go up and down properly, but not sideways. If I wiggle enough, I manage to get some side movement, but it's erratic, unpredictable and certainly not the way it should be working. The clicks and gestures work fine.
I tried to turn the trackpad off, but I get the same result (either by pushing the button on it, or by disabling it in the Bluetooth menu).
Any suggestion?
Hi Allan,
It's an iMac, 27", running on OSX 10.8.5.

Safari won't properly work after installing Mavericks.
Hey, there!
Yesterday I installed Mavericks. Since then, Safari doesn't work properly. It seems fine, but once you try to enter a new address on the address bar, it doesn't download. Besides, it doesn't let me open new tabs or new windows. Even if I'm on Facebook and click on a link, it doesn't work. The same thing happens after clicking on a link in Twitter.
The funny thing is that it works fine with other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome.
What could it be?
Thanks for your assistance, mates!I have the same problem. This is what happens when I launch Safari:

Keyboard and mouse randomly don't work after boot
Hello there, I have been having a problem lately with the keyboard. Some times after the booting process it doesn't work, forcing me to restart my laptop even 3 or 4 times before getting it to work properly.
Here is the keyboard boot process. wich has actually a problem that I can't understand clearly.
dmesg |grep keyboard
[ 2.308714] atkbd serio0: Failed to deactivate keyboard on isa0060/serio0
[ 2.959550] input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as /devices/platform/i8042/serio0/input/input0
I noticed this error during the boot preocess, how should it be interpreted?
I'm sure in the kernel, the device atkbd is selected.
The synaptics mouse instead, doesn't work properly in X
My mouse is a synaptic touchpad and when I start x, instead of loading the synaptic device, xfce simply see it as ps/2. Also this happens randomly.
dmesg |grep mouse

Any suggestion?Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Has your keyboard and mouse quit working altogether or just when the computer is hot? And do I understand that an external keyboard and mouse will work with no problems?
And I am wondering about your computer running unusually hot. Are your fans operating properly? You might want to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test to be sure that the fans and thermal sensors are working properly. If they are not, you will get one or more error codes.
Another thing to do to check when your Mac is unusually hot is the Activity Monitor. Select "All Processes" at the top right and check for any process running that should not be which is using lots of CPU.
I don't know if the keyboard problem is related to the heat problem or not, but I would want to know what is causing the heat problem too. Over time, excessive heat can cause damage to the logic board. It could also conceivably damage the ribbon cable which connects the keyboard and I would guess that the trackpad could also be affected. So it is important to see what is going on here. If you have been experiencing excessive heat on a regular basis, this might be the underlying cause of your keyboard and trackpad problems. If so, the heat problem will have to be fixed or the other problem will recur over time.
Try the AHT and post back with any results. Also, use iStatPro to check on your fans and make sure both are running at roughly equal speeds and that they run faster when the computer gets hot.
Good luck! -
Synaptics touchpad mouse now doesn't work after updating Firefox on netbook.
I updated from Firefox 3.6.X to Firefox 9.0.1.
Now my "mouse" (touchpad) does not work.
Hardware: Acer Aspire One 532h netbook.
OS: Windows 7 32-bit.
Touchpad: Synaptics PS/2 Compatible Mouse
I have done the following in the order listed to try to fix the problem (in between as required I have restarted the computer):
Updated the driver.
Rolled back the driver.
Adjusted the value of ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled (within about:config) to 0.
Adjusted the value of ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled (within about:config) to 1.
Returned the value of ui.trackpoint_hack.enabled (within about:config) back to original value of -1.
Disabled the driver.
Removed the driver.
Downloaded from Synaptics and installed the driver.
Removed the new driver.
Downloaded from Acer and installed the driver.
Note that the Device Manager has always shown the driver/device to be working properly, but clearly it isn't.
The functionality of the mouse terminated after I updated Firefox. Nothing else was done to the netbook.OK, so I am the only person that this has ever happened to. Awesome.
FWIW, I realize that updating Firefox should have ZERO impact on the touchpad driver. However, there was nothing else done to (or with) the netbook that could have caused this.
Freak coincidence? Any opinion is appreciated... -
Mouse and keybord stopped working after upgrading to Mavericks.
Since upgrading from snow Leopard to Mavericks, the Apple USB keyboard and mouse nolonger work on my Mac Pro. I've tried booting in safe mode sucsessfuly, but the keyboard and mouse still don't work. Can anybody help me please?
Thanks,
DaveTest the devices with another computer, if possible. If they work, or if you can't test, see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. -
Mouse and Keyboard stops working after a while
Hi, I'm not even sure where to start to find the cause of the problem. I have a normal ps/2 keyboard and USB optical mouse, both of them just stops working after a few hours. The light on the mouse just dies and the keyboard is not responsive at all. I have to do a hard reboot of my computer. How and where can I diagnose the problem? I noticed the problem started when I upgraded to the latest kernel.
And then after a while it will just use a new address:
Oct 31 01:47:15 wdesktop usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 6
Oct 31 01:47:15 wdesktop usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 7
Oct 31 01:47:16 wdesktop usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

Oct 31 01:47:16 wdesktop input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [Microsoft Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical] on usb-0000:00:10.0-1
Then after that my mouse is unusable, the following is shown:

Oct 31 01:50:08 wdesktop uhci_hcd 0000:00:10.0: Controller not stopped yet!
Unplugging and plugging the mouse back does not work
I found a workaround for that by unplugging the mouse, removing the uhci_hcd and adding it back, so:
sudo rmmod uhci_hcd
sudo modprobe uhci-hcd
But I'm still not sure what causes the problem.

USB Mouse / Keyboard doesn't work after resuming from hibernate
I am using a USB device that splits out to 2 PS2 ports, one for a mouse, one for a keyboard. It works great, but when I put my X61 into hibernate, the mouse and keyboard do not work when I resume from hibernate.
I installed all the relevant patches and power manager drivers from the driver downloads page, but my mouse still doesn't work.
Can someone point me to the correct download or shed some light on this?
Thank you!I have this same problem with this same device. It is a "composite USB device".
What I've notice is that the problem happens mostly with USB 1.1 ports. When the device is connected to a USB 2.0 port the problem doesn't happen always.
It depends on the computer though. I added a PCMCIA USB 2.0 adaptor to my laptop that has USB 1.1 only. And when I connect the USB-to-PS/2 cable to the USB 2.0 my mouse sometimes work after suspend/hibernate but sometimes doesn't.
However, on my other desktop computer, which has integrated USB 2.0 ports, this problem has never happened (I haven't tested it exhaustively though).
This is a Windows bug of course. Everything related to USB 1.1 support is buggy in Windows. One more example is the annoying (and possibly catastrophic) "Delayed write error" that appears when you use a external hard drive plugged to a USB 1.1 port.
I guess M$ is focusing their efforts on making USB 2.0 to work well and they have forgotten about USB 1.1. Or it could a problem related to "USB composite devices", hard to know.

Some mouse features don't work after installing Mountain Lion
Any one else having these problem?
Swipe between ful-screen apps: Does not work after system has been asleep. Have to restart or log out/in to get it to resume working.
Mission Control: Does not work.
Smart Zoom: Does not work.Assuming you've first checked Software Update to see if there are any updated drivers and it's still not working, you could try resetting the printing system.
System Preferences>Print & Scan, Control+Click or Right Click on a printer on the left and select 'reset printing system'. All printers will be deleted and need to be added again. -
Middle mouse click no longer works after recent update
I noticed after updating about 3 days ago that clicking the scroll wheel no longer acts as middle click on my MX Revolution mouse from logitech anymore. Pressing on the scroll wheel use to act as middle mouse click, now it just switches between scroll modes. I would like to have the former functionality returned as I really like to be able to open links in new tabs and paste with just one click.
Does anyone know how I could get this functionality working again on this mouse? All other button functions work as they did prior to the update that changed my scroll wheel click behavior.
Thanks for any help with this matter and please let me know if any other information is needed to diagnosis this problem.

Does this mouse work with other OS/PC ?
After a simple reboot or pacman -Syu, do you backup to roll back ? Can you mention which packages/files were updated?
Yes the mouse works in windows, but logitech provides a configuration utility for it and so I use that set it up. In linux there is no such utility to configure the mouse. There use to be btnx and that worked great but it's no longer in the repos or AUR so I don't use that anymore. I haven't done pacman -Sc or pacman -Scc in a while so I should still have the packages to roll back, but I'm not sure what package update caused this. [Solved] Mouse and Keyboard Dont Work After BIOS Update
I spent the last few hours in windows 7 trying to prove to the guys over at MSFN that my problem wasn't driver or bios related by updating to the latest drivers and upgrading my bios to the most recent version. After I was finished I decided to boot back into arch to work some more on my custom kernel (since oddly it had the same problem before the bios update, the mouse and keyboard worked on one boot but once i rebooted into it again they no longer worked) and found that the keyboard and mouse no longer worked, thinking I had rebooted into the custom kernel by accident I rebooted and selected the default kernel once again only to find that the mouse and keyboard still didn't work.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I really don't want to reinstall since I just installed it last night.
Edit: Another silly mistake, i had renamed the original xorg.conf and never put back when I was finished. This makes me wonder why KDM even started up at all though.

It appears that the mouse and keyboard aren't working correctly. I will try to assist you with this.
To start could you please provide the following:
Model and product numbers for you notebook.
Currently install operating system.
Were these working previously? If yes, were any changes made prior to them not working?
Have you attempted any troubleshooting? If yes, what have you tried so far?
I look forward to your reply.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

IMac stuck in home screen - mouse & keyboard don 't work after Apple Update
I just updated my iMac by hitting the Update button in the left upper screen.
After collecting 98.1 Mb of Update-tools i had to restart my iMac.
During shutdown it installed the components, as normal.
Once restarted, it brought me back to the home screen, where everything looked
normal. Problem is, that the iMac doesn 't respond to my mouse and keyboard anymore. Cursor is left of the apple in the left upper screen and doesn 't move an inch.
I discovered during a couple of restarts, that immediately as the apple appears in the white screen ... that Caps Lock modus is switched on. I am not able to switch it off.
Who knows what's wrong ? Please don t tell me to use my OS Tiger cd's .. because i later installed proper Leopard version, but these cd's are not with me at this moment.
HELP !Hi !
Well, it is the wired keyboard and wired mouse. I tried as you told me,
but up untill now there 's no difference and everythings' still stuck ..
I tried the hardware test that you can do with CD 1 .. and everything
seems to work fine. At that point ( after startup hold D-button ) you can
control both mouse and keyboard.
When you then choose for startup from Mac OS Hardrive ... the whole problem
starts again. Caps Lock is ON ( green light ) from the moment you enter the
home screen.
The problem i have is that the original cd's that came with this imac intel duo core .. are OS Tiger. A friend of mine clean installed Snow Leopard 6.1. so i can t reinstall on a short term. I also would regret it if all my files would get lost.
Thanks for your quick respond. Please help me out !

USB Mouse on Hub not working after upgrade to Snow Leopard
Recently upgraded Macbook Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Had a mouse and external HD attached to Mac via a USB Hub. After upgrade, HD is recognized and works fine (use it with Time Machine). Mouse will not work through hub, but is recognized by the system. Mouse is a simple wired USB device and functions fine (works when connected directly to the Mac).
Any idea what might be wrong or what needs to be done to allow the mouse to work again?Yes it is a powered hub.
