My Movie Won't Play Back

I have worked on this movie a couple of times with no problems. Tonight, suddenly when I try to play it, I only see black. The scroll arrow moves, and the red cross hair moves normally across my clips, and the time counts down. But the screen remains black and there is no sound. The only thing I have done to this movie since I last viewed it is rename the file.
Any ideas what might be wrong?

Hi Steve - have you renamed the 'file' (actually a 'package' which can be opened with Control-Click), or a file within that package? If the latter, you may have lost the link to the Media folder.
If the former, it will have created a new project - you will find the originally-named project in iMovie's Trash. In fact it should have asked you about it.
I don't know if re-naming has been the cause of the problem you have though.
Try doing a 'Save As' with a new name and see it that new project works.
If not, open the 'package, click on Show Package Contents, and then go Shared Movies>iDVD and try opening the .mov file there.
If that plays, it hopefully can be imported into a new project - as one long clip.

ITunes movies won't play after backing up library

I recently ran out of hard drive space on my macbook pro so I decided to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive to make space. Since doing so the movies that I bought on Itunes won't play. Everything else is fine. The music plays but the TV shows and movies won't play. There was an error message the first time that I tried to play it but I have never seen it again and I didn't write it down. Something about a file missing. Has anyone successfully fixed a similar problem?

iTunes prefs - Reset warnings.
Double click a movie to play it.
When it comes up and asks if you want to locate it, click Yes, then go to /iTunes/iTunes media/Movies on the external and find the movie.

PPro CS4 won't play back

Suddenly video in Premiere Pro CS 4.0.0 for Mac won't play back from source window, program window, or timeline, except for an occasional playback of < 1 second. Scarily this was described by a bunch of users in a thread started two years ago. Only one solution was offered there, which didn't apply to my Mac.
I was involved in another thread on a related subject in this forum once before but that setup seemed connected to the use of a Dazzle Bridge for capturing. There's no such complication now...it's just not playing any video more than a few frames.
An editor who can't playback any video is in trouble, and after paying as much as I did for this program and a Mac Pro, it is disheartening. Any ideas out there?

I appreciate everyone's help but I'm afraid the situation has gone from bad to worse, since Premiere suddenly disappeared.
Yesterday, following one bit of forum advice, I tried using a separate user account labeled Premiere Pro and the program did play the files--though it wouldn't let me save the project file where it resided. Now, however, the program is nowhere to be found. I have the original installation disk but I have heard of problems arising from reinstallations.
To answer some other questions, I did try to download the latest update for PPro CS4. I am using PPro for Mac on a Mac Pro with a 10.5.8 OS. I can't say for certain exactly which version I "have" of PPro CS 4 since the update because the program has disappeared and is not turning up in the Finder anywhere, nor can I recall the exact wording of the error message saying I couldn't save my project as edited under the alternate user. The program and system worked fairly problem free for almost four years before the last few days. I use a variety of source footage, including .avi, .mov, .flv, .mp3, .wav.
One Snow Leopard user has recommended using a Root User account which doesn't seem to apply here. For example, he referred to a "Network Account User" option that was supposed to appear in Accounts/Login Options but doesn't on my Leopard. Also, as per another user at Trafford College, I revised permissions to select Everyone...however since the program isn't appearing on my computer, there's no telling if that worked.
Community help is greatly appreciated--especially in light of one forum report of someone who was on the phone with Adobe for hours with this kind of problem but without getting it solved.

"Export as Quicktime Movie" -- won't play on other computers

When I use the "Export as Quicktime Movie" option and try to play it back on a Mac without FCP installed, it is missing components and won't play back in Quicktime Player. Of course, I can export with various compressions and then it's fine, but sometimes I want that big "original" file. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You do need the codec you are exporting to installed in the other machine if you wish to play the exported file. A variety of codecs are available only with FCP installed.
A couple of possible solutions are a very high res H.264 or Download [ProRes decoder|http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac] to share a prores file between machines.

Quicktime movies won't play on Apple Website

I formatted my HD and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Last night and this morning I was watching the videos on http://www.apple.com/business/theater/#activecorners?sr=hotnews.rss, but tnight when I went back there, the movies won't play, nor will any other movies on the entire website. All I get is a Quicktime Icon with a question mark in the middle of it. I have both Quicktime X and Quicktime Pro 7 installed, with Pro in the Utilities folder.

After loading the AppleMPEG2.Component into the Quicktime folder in the Library, everything started working again. I'm not sure if that's what made it start working again though.

Movie won't play in or outside of itunes

I recently purchased Marvel's Avengers. The movie won't play in itunes or in any other program. I've tried deleting and re-downloading it. I don't get an error message, I just click play and nothing happens.
Sometimes it will flash the pause button briefly, but then it goes back to the play button, and the movie doesn't start.

HT1657 Rented movies won't play on IOS 7.0.4!

I have been trying to rent movies on my newly updated iPads 4 Gen and it won't download fully and won't play back. I have tried everything from doing a force start up to restarting my router and nothing helps. I have to check my memory and I have about 7 G and still I cannot download and play back. The sole reason why I bought this iPad was for HD movies. I don't have a computer to open iTunes up and transfer from there. Before these updates I was able to rent and buy movies without a problem!

If it has the cloud symbol then that indicates that it's in the cloud and not on your phone, but is available for redownloading - if you go into Settings > iTunes & App Store and turn Videos 'off' (under the 'Show All' heading) it should stop it showing in the Videos app. What you can redownload will still show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else! Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!

Video clips won't play back after capture

I am a long-time user of Premiere Elements, currently using version 9.0. I am capturing video clips from the same videocamera that I've used in previous versions of PE. My video clips won't play back after I capture them. The clip is in my "media" area, but when I try to play it back, the audio plays but the picture remains frozen on the starting image. What is happening?

It is a Sony Handycam DCR-HC28, mini DV, using a firewire connection.
Operating System is Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, system specs are SATA 2 RAID 1 with dual 1 TB hard drives. 4 GB RAM. As far as how fast my processor is, I looked on my invoice and it says, "Intel Core2 processor Q6600 (2.4 Ghz, 1066 FSB) with Quad Core technology and 8 MB cache, 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800 MHz.
I defragmented my hard drive before beginning and have 779 GB or 83 percent free space on hard drive.
I have not placed my video clips on the timeline yet so don't know if there is a red line on top, indicating it hasn't been rendered. I merely wanted to play back my clip to set "in" and "out" points. This has never happened before in my long history of using Premiere Elements. Would prefer not to have to go back to PE 8, as that was a disaster.

IDVD autoplay movie won't play in DVD player

My IDVD movie won't play in a DVD player when created in autoplay mode. It plays fine on my computer both in preview and on my computer's DVD player program and it works fine if I create a menu and button, just not if I create it in autoplay mode. I've tried it on my work compter and three DVD players and it won't play in any of them. Can anyone help, please?

I used a 16x Maxwell DVD-R. The same kind of disc worked fine with the movie when I had a menu.
I'm afraid I don't know what a Patchburn is.

ITunes Error: Cannot play bought iTunes movie from one day to the other "The selected movie won't play on your display."

just a few weeks ago I watched on my new iMac 5k Retina a long-ago-downloaded movie (iTunes content, HD, Billy Joel. Live at Shea Stadium). I had no issues watching it on the new wonderful display just a few weeks ago!
Today I wanted to resume the video and got the error "The selected movie won’t play on your display. This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).".
Actually the movie plays for a few seconds and then the movie window gets black and the error message appears. Restarting iTunes does not help. Restarting the Mac also not.
How can this be fixed?
Additionally I get since I moved from my old iMac to the new one the iTunes error "Do you want the application “iTunes.app” to accept incoming network connections?" every time I start iTunes.

Selected movie won't play SOLVED

I had this problem trying to play a rented movie. Got the message The selected movie won't play on one of your connected displays. My problem was with a software which is made by INFOCUS for their projector. I removed it and now the movie plays even on the projector and without the software. I have seen that solution in this forum elsewhere.

Please note that to be able to play your purchased HD movies or videos, let us not forget some minor details. Ensure that your iTunes software is up-to-date. HD videos will only play if you have iTunes 10.6 or later as described in this article:
