My movies are not showing up in iMovie application?

I just uploaded 5 movies from my camera to my iMac using iPhoto. I can see them all in there. Here is a photo.
When I drag the movies out you can see in this picture above the iPhoto app (top left). If you notice an older one has the Quicktime symbol and the newer ones have the picture of the video. These do not show up in iMovie and I'm not sure why.

There was no option of Movie to TIFF but an Audio to TIFF and other ones. I chose the Movie to Quicktime movie and it didn't work, also tried the audio to TIFF and it didn't work.
TIFF??? Who said anything about TIFF compression? "TIFF" is a graphic image compression format that will be listed in the option window of the "Movie to Picture" Export pop-up. "AIFF," on the other hand, is an audio compression format that is compatible with iMovie '08. In any case, sorry -- I should have said "Sound to AIFF" here.
NOTE: It is not necessary to extract the audio to a new player before performing this audio conversion, but I usually use this work flow in case I should do something idiotic and end or accidentally ruining my source file. In addition, if your original audio is mono, you should probably use a mono setting for the AIFF conversion but either will work here.
After Add to Selection and Scale I assumed I should also go to Edit and click paste which I did.
If you have the "Properties" window open for your original clip, you will see that the "Add to Selection and Scale" Edit option adds a second audio track to the movie (which then allows you to delete the original incompatible audio track). If you then immediately perform an additional "Paste" action, you will note that the "pasted" audio is added to the end of the track which was previously added by the "Add to Selection and Scale" action and you end up with a clip twice as long with audio repeated and no video for the second half.
The second one where I chose sound to AIFF would play all the way through fine and then would repeat the whole movie again with only the sound and no picture showing. It wouldn't show up though either when I tried to open iMovie.
See explanation above for double playback. As to why the AIFF file would not import, did you remember to delete the sound track with the incompatible µ-Law audio? As long as that track is in your clip, it will not import.

In IPhoto I changed movie dates after thumb nails were created in IMovie but the new dates are not showing up in IMovie. Is there someway to refresh the IPhoto event in IMovie?

Background: I'm transferring file folders from a Visa laptop via an external hard drive to my IMac. In the folders are photos and videos from different cameras. SO I first tried to import to IMovie but it would not recognize any of the files. So then I imported into IPhoto and both photos and videos were imported and I created events for each folder. When I first opened IMovie I had to wait for it to create "thumb nails". Then I could view the events in IMovie BUT the video clips are not together because they have vastly different dates and are mixed with videos from other events. I looked at the dates and said I can fix that in IPhoto which i did but those new dates are not showing up in IMovie. I think I need to somehow refresh the event data that Imovie is using but have not found how to do that in either IPhoto or IMovie.
I'm doing this on three events with about 100 photos and videos. But I have many 1000s more to do so need to know how to either fix this or delete these events, reimport, change the dates, then open again in IMovie. I'm sure that would work but I can't understand why changing the dates in IPhoto is not being reflected in IMovie.
Appreciate any tips or pointers.
OBTW this is my first question as a first time Apple owner.

Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

It is also posible to go back to the imovie you had before, it is still on your computer - you go to Finder and it is in a folder in your programs. Many others have gone back to the old program, and perhaps I am also going to do that too.
In the new imovie it does not come up the question "do you want to download these videos ...."

If you can,t see your libraries, you can click on a show button on top of the left side.
On the picture you see here iphoto is market on the top of the left side and the pictures to the left is my iphoto-events - and there I can open the one I shall use, and find my movies.

Imported .mov files not showing up in IMovie

I downloaded 6-7 .mov files yesterday. All fairly short 5-10 second clips. The first 3 imported just fine and showed up in IMovie where I am editing a movie.
Afterwards, when I selected "import" the computer responded the same way, as if it was importing, creating thumbnails, etc and the video shows up in finder in the right place but it does not show up in IMovie and I cannot use it in my movie.
I selected "show all clip" and still they do not show up
I tried importing to iPhoto first and then to iMovie but it still does not show up. It does the same thing - acts like it is importing, creating thumbnails etc.
THe first three that I did are still there, just fine.

Thanks for responding. These videos were shot on a colleague's camera then loaded to an FTP server for me to download. I have them as MP4s (though I've tried to import them after converting to .mov and .avi, still to no avail).
I've loaded them into iPhoto, but still nothing shows up in iMovie when I click the "iPhoto Videos" tab. It's like iMovie can't see them, even though I can see and play them when I go back to iPhoto.
One other point of interest: I tried the same process in my older version of iMovie HD, and there they would load only as audio.
I'm flummoxed.

Out of all the movies Ive purchased only 4 or so are showing up in my library and same with my ipad which used to display all my movies even if they were not downloaded onto my ipad. how do I fix this?

It sounds like your iOS devices and computers are not showing your Movie purchases from iTunes anymore that are not downloaded to them. On your iOS devices you can check to see if the option to show all your movies is enabled in Settings > Videos. On your computer(s) this option is labeled Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases in its preferences.

ICloud stored movies do not show up in iMovie

My macbook got stolen but luckily I had a lot of my movies stored on iCloud (there's 4.8Gb of iMovie data up there).
On my new macbook none of the movies appear in the theatre however, cant find out how to access them....

I have a similar problem. I recorded 15 screen captures in MOV format and added them to iPhoto. Only 9 show up in iMovie. I'd love to hear a solution to this problem.

Tool bar gifs are not showing up when the application left idle for long.

I have a Java application built with jdk sdk 1.4. This application was earlier on jdk 1.3 and very recently we moved to 1.4.
The problem here is, tool bar gifs don't show up when the application is left idle for long or kept minimized for long. After I minimize and maximize, they show up. Also sometimes few are seen and few are not, and again as I said minimize and maximize, the rest(which were not showing up earlier) turn and therest don't.
What could be the reason. This was not the case in jdk 1.3.
Any help wil be highly appriciated.

IPhoto movie imports not showing up in iMovie

I have a 2009 Mac Mini running 10.7 and iPhoto and iMovie '11 (latest updates for all products).
I have recently had to rebuild my iPhoto library, and while Iphoto itself works and acts like a champ, I get no videos coming up in iMovie. No prompt to create thumbnails, nothing.
I have deleted plist files associated with both apps from my user library, and closed and reopened both apps, still nothing. At a loss at what I can do at this point.
Can anyone provide a suggestion on how to proceed?

Movies do not show up on AppleTV but they are in iTunes

I have around 220 movies in iTunes. Most all were purchased through Apple. I am having an issue where several of my movies are not showing up on my Apple TV. The movies that do not show up were all purchased and watched on my Apple TV but once it synced to my iTunes library they no longer show up.. I have reset and restored everything including my entire iTunes library, took almost an entire day, but still have the same issue. My apple TV is a 1st gen. The ones that do not show up are a mix between HD and SD so that is not the issue. The only common thread between these movies is that they were all purchased and watched initially through my apple TV. HELP please!

As far as the resolution, I do not have the exact info but they were all purchased through iTunes via my AppleTV.
Examples:
- Journey to the Center of the Earth HD and SD
- Tranformers HD and SD
- Journey 2: The Mysterious Island SD
- Sherlock Holmes SD
Thats just a few of the movies that do not show up on my AppleTV but are in iTunes and can be played on my Laptop or synced to my iPad, iPod, iPhone and iTouch.
I have tried syncing these movies to my AppleTV and it shows syncing but completes way too quickly and the movies are not on my AppleTV. When I look at my AppleTV via iTunes the movies are checked off so as to sync. No exclamation point or any error for that matter ever occurs.

HT4997 The imported videos by Itone is not showing up on iMovie

I downloaded YouTube videos by download helper Firefox adds software and then I convert it to MP4 by airvideo apps for ipad. Then I transfere it by I tone as was described on the help section, but still these videos are not showed up on iMovie on ipad. I can see them on Itone but I can not see any video on I movie. What is the reason, how I can solve it. Thanks

First check Restrictions to see if it has been disabled (Settings/General/Restrictions).
If it isn't disabled in restrictions it is somewhere on your phone, either on a different page of the home screen or in a folder. If you really can't find it go to Settings/General/Reset - Reset Home Screen layout.

Movie Controls Not Showing

Hello Everyone,
Here is the problem: I have posted movies to my web page, but the fast forward & reverse buttons at the bottom right of the movie are not showing up. I originally had kioskmode set to on, but have removed it since. I also tried exporting the movie with internet streaming-fast start enabled.
Any suggestions?

Movies in iPhoto are not showing in iMovie clips

I have movies in iPhoto that are not showing in the video clips to select for iMovie. Is there anywhere I can export them so I can grab them for my movie?

he iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.

Thanks. The reason this has become an issue is that I recently bought a new Macbook Air that the iPad is not synced to. The one is was synced to was stolen. If I want to sync this iPad to the new Air, won't it be wiped before I'm able to copy these films or am I wrong about that?

There are some good programs that you could use to convert the format, Handbrake or Mpegstreamclip are two good free ones. Convert them to MP4 and then try importing them again.

Tap the Videos app and tap the movies button at the top of the page.
The iTunes app on your iPad is just a conduit to the iTunes Store. To play your purchases, use the iPod app or the Videos app.
