My music is deleting when I try to play it!!!

I recently restored my iPod(Black 5th gen), losing all the music I had lost when my computer crashed. The problem was that iTunes no longer wanted to recognise my iPod and none of the songs were showing up either in iTunes or on the iPod itself.
Since I restored it and installed the latest software updates, now when I try to play a song from my iPod in iTunes, it more often deletes the song rather than plays it. I thought I was going crazy until it happened several more times.
Has this happened to anyone else and if so is there any way to fix it?
(I have since found that winamp was used to put some of the songs on my ipod, could this have any effect on it?)

You have quoted me out of context (and not made it obvious that you are quoting) and perhaps ignored my use of the phrase _the next time you have a failure_ . By failure, I mean a computer failure which results in restoring the iTunes Library.
The thing is... it does work! If you manage to find a missing song and tell iTunes where it is, it will still be there next time iTunes looks for it, whether it's in the iTunes music folder or elsewhere.
However!
Suppose you have songs on an external drive/hard disk, memory key/stick or similar and you tell iTunes that is where they are located. Those songs must be in the same place the next time you start up iTunes. In other words, the drive must have the same letter.
Take as an example: you turn on your computer and then turn on the external hard drive (with some of your iTunes Library songs on it). The external hard drive will be allocated the next letter in the alphabet. (My next letter is F:) Then you plug in a memory key. The key will now be allocated the next letter in the alphabet, in my example it will be G. When you finish, you close down your computer.
*The next time you start your computer* you forget to turn on the hard drive, but instead you connect up a camera and transfer pictures from the camera to your computer. The camera will have been allocated the letter F (as in my example). The next thing you do is connect the memory key, which will be allocated drive letter G, (the same as previously). Only then do you remember that you have not turned on the external hard drive, and you do that now. It will be allocated the drive letter H. You then (safely disconnect) the camera and then start iTunes.
iTunes will still find songs on the memory key (becasue it has the same drive letter as before) but it will not find songs on your external hard drive _because it now has a different drive letter_ and therefore the songs are in a different location.
In my previous post I suggested that there is another option which required a bit more work. That is, once you find the missing songs, to move them to the iTunes Music folder. To do this:
Look in the iTunes Music folder, in Windows it is: *My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music* unless you specified somewhere else. In there:
*For a new artist,* create a folder with the artist name and then go into that;
*For an existing artist,* find and go into that artist's folder;
*For a compilation album,* find and go into the Compilations folder.
In each case, once you are in the correct folder, create another folder with the album name. Place the songs in the new <album name> folder.
As you can see, it's a fair bit of work, and to keep it readable, I omitted it from the original post but said I would supply it if requested.

Has any of this information helped you? Your feedback would be appreciated.

  • Is the IOS 7.0.2 music app deleting albums for anyone else when they try to play them?

Ever since updating to iOS 7.0.2 when I play music on my iPhone 5 it's skips through the songs and deletes the album/artists selected.
I have tried plugging into iTunes, deleting all music and transferring it all back but after a few days the problem came back
Is anyone else experiencing this and or found a fix?

Yep - deleting anything that's not purchased on itunes when I try to play it.
This is terrible, and especially a pain when they're things like limited edition albums where tracks are only available direct, so going for iTunes match is not gonna help.
Only other variable to consider is that I installed the "Groove" app to try out a few weeks ago, and played music with it twice. Highly doubt this is related, however non-iTunes purchased tmusic tracks also show up there and now *crash the phone* when I try to play them so it's something system-wide.

  • ITunes shows the music and audiobooks I've loaded to my iPod Touch, but they do not show up when I try to play them.

iTunes shows the music and audiobooks I've loaded to my iPod Touch, but they do not show up when I try to play them.  I reconnect to iTunes and it shows the music and books as being loaded on my iPod.
Sometimes the audiobook will play, then disappear from iPod's play menu after I reconnect to iTunes and load more music.  I've got plenty of free memory, and iTunes shows the files still on iPod.
....or should I just roll it back to iOS 5...  never had these kinds of issues with the old OS.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all AB and resync
To delete all ADgo to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>AB and try deleting them from there
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Recently bought  a new computer and all my music appears in iTunes as well as on my computer in a saved folder. When I try to play the music in iTunes I get an error that reads"the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Hope you can help me solve this issue.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • I have music i have put on itunes from cd's i own but when i try to play them or update my ipod it says item cannot be found why did itunes lose the file

i have music i have put on itunes from cd's i won but when i try to play it or update my ipod it says cannot find file and have to locate it why is this

Because the file are no longer where they were when they were imported into your computer and added to your iTunes Library.
Did you move, rename or delete the files after adding them to your iTunes Library?
Do you use any other programmes, which may have moved, renamed or deleted the files, for example, Windows Media Player?
Were the files added to your computer's hard drive, or to an external drive which is no longer connected, or has a different drive letter now?

  • New itunes is telling me my music can not be located when i try to play

I have upgraded to the new itunes. now when i try to play any of ny music it just tells me the file can not be located and would i like to locate it. this is really annoying.

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

If you still have the 'pointers' to them in the Music part of your iTunes library (i.e. where you would click on them to play them) then iTunes will assume that you still have them and will show them as downloaded in the Purchased link under Quick Links on the iTunes store home page - if you try deleting one of them then it should get the cloud symbol for re-downloading, and you can do the same for the others.

The problem resolved itself when I resynced the iPod with my computer. I suspect the error displayed when I tried syncing with my laptop and canceled out of it.

  • Text deleting when I try to change color or actual font

I will try to explain. So say I have a photo (or blank canvas) and I have typed words on it. If later I go and double click the word (or layer, etc) so that I can change the color of the word(s) &/or change the actual font, it will just automatically delete the whole word(s) on that layer.... which means I have to go change the color &/or font again BEFORE typing anything, and then re-type it all. So I guess in other words... I guess the text is deleting when I try to change the color or actual font (after it's already typed). Sorry if that's confusing.
(I have a Mac, and I am using the Photoshop that comes with the Creative Cloud subscription).

Something is wrong here, the text should not delete when changing font, color or whatever.
But try this. First off you don't need to double click to change the text atributes.
Just make sure you are on the correct text layer, have commited the text but keep the text tool the active tool. Now in the options bar you can change any or all attributes (color, size, font etc). The text updates real time.
You only need to select word(s) if you want that word to be in another color/font/whatever than the other words of that same text layer.
If you want to change the attributes of more than one text layer in one go then you must select those layers before changing attributes in the options bar.

I have a iphone 5 and I can login with my apple id to purchase music. However, when I try to login into icloud using the very same username and password that I use in the apple store it does not work to enter icloud, so what what gives???

I could do that, however when I select the icloud button (or whatever the heck it is) I am asked to enter the apple id and password. So if you are suppose to create another one for icloud you'd think it would give you the option at this point which would be logical.

    - Next would be a restore. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factoruy defaults/new iPod.

You may have already done this, but try de-authorizing your computer (through the iTunes:Store menu) and then re-authorizing it.
