My music is gone... 2nd time

My son was over the other week, I had my iphone plugged into home PC for charging. My son then plugs his into the same pc for charging. His isn't recognizing and charging, so he unplugs it and replugs in. Finally it starts to charge. Off to bed, next morning I notice my phone's music is gone. I notice that the OTHER catagory is as large as the music bar is on itunes is. The MUSIC bar ( blue ) is gone. Figuring this was an issue with the battery charging issue, I happily resync my phone to my laptop computer library. Today I plug my iphone into my laptop, and find same story my music is all gone. This time I don't see the huge OTHER category bar, like last time. I did a forum search and find that there is an issue with interrupted sync. This is great but doesn't apply to me, I haven't sync my phone since week ago with the incident with my son. Any thoughts???
thx

Rule one: connect only one iPod/iPhone to the same computer at a time.

Do you have iTunes set to sync automatically when the iPhone is plugged in (this is the default)? In that case it DID sync.
A large "Other" means that the file system on the iPhone is corrupted, usually by an interrupted sync. I suspect that your son unplugged YOUR phone while fiddling, and when he plugged it in again it either started or interrupted a sync. The only fix is to do a Restore on the phone. It should be OK to restore from backup, so the only thing you will have to re-enter is your passwords.

" how can I sync my iphone to my mac book without losing all the music and pictures on it?"
You cannot.  Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.
it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.

I updated my iPod Touch to 6.0.1. -- after much prompting from iTunes. Now my music is GONE (along with apps, photos and podcasts). After syncing a bunch of times some of it came back, but not all of it. How odd is that? How can I get my music back?? I'm really bummed! Everything shows in iTunes, but it's not synching right. So glad I updated. NOT.

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • I downloaded pics to my pc and after all my music was gone on my iPhone. I have tried repeatedly to sync with my iTunes but it does nothing. The last time said it didn't have a disc to sync to my iPhone. Ver confused as to why it's doing this. Any thought

I downloaded pics to my pc and after all my music was gone from my phone . I have repeatedly tried to sync to my iTunes but it tells me it cannot be synced to my iPhone. What's going on? Any suggestions?

Yeah everything is gone for good. The apps won't be a problem. You can just redownload them. For the music find a program that copies the music from the iphone to the computer. Then add the files to itunes ans sync.

  • I plug my ipod in and it starts to charge but i open itunes and it says its synced with a diff library. my music is gone. is there anyway i can get my music back to my itunes, most of it is cds and downloads no itunes stuff cuz i had a zune. PLZ HELP!

I plug my ipod into my computer and it begins to charge, then in the bottom right corner it says installing device driver, and then says digital still camera failed. Im not sure what that means.  Then when i open my itunes all my music is gone from my library and i dont know why.  it says that my ipod is synced with a different library and gives me the option to transfer purchases, or erase and sync.  All my music and stuff is still on my ipod but i dont know how to get it back into my itunes.  Like eight of my songs are actually from itunes, the rest is from cds, and downloads, and my zune music because i had a zune, but broke it.  Is there any way to fix this? Please?!? I beg for an answer. Please Help me, I dont Know what to Do. I want to be able to put more music on and there is no way im erasing the content of my ipod. PLEASE HELP

That's what backups are for. Use Time Machine. It's free and external drives are cheap. To recover your iPhone's content requires the use of third party utilities. Success is not guaranteed. Read:

  • What does "other"other" mean? I was attempting to transfer my iPot music to my MacBook. That the music is gone is okey, however my iPod now shows about 35 Gs of "other"

I was attempting to transfer my iPod music to my MacBook. That the music is gone is okey, however my iPod now shows about 35 Gs of "other". Unless I hear otherwise I will delete it if someone tells me how.

The 35G of others is most probably your music, that got lost during a failed sync Operartion,  which did not terminate correctly.
If you want to recover these, refer to an earlier post by Zeevoneer

Would be good if you have the time to read the last paragraph, link to ilounge site.
    Have a nice day.
PS: if you don't have the time, just Restore your iPod, and re-sync your library data to the iPod.

  • Can't use without connecting to iTunes? Try sending reg a 2nd time.

I finally figured out what's going on here. I was having to plug it in and launch iTunes every time I powered it on. On a whim I sent the registration info in a 2nd time. That took care of it and now the iPad can be powered on without having to connect.

To set up AirTunes on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, use the AirPort Admin Utility to check these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Wireless Mode: Join an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)
    - Wireless Network: <select the existing wireless network>
    Music tab
    - Enable AirTunes on this base station (checked)
    - Enable AirTunes over the Ethernet port (optional)
    - iTunes Speaker Name: <whatever you wish>
    - iTunes Speaker Password (optional)
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
    - Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • PC Crashed - Lost iTunes - Dumped PC - new iMac - but music is gone

My PC had been a problem for a while, the last time it crashed, when it was restored all of my iTunes music was gone. I finally threw it out the window and purchased an iMac, which I love. But now it's time to get my music back. I can see all of my purchase history on-line at the iTunes store. But does anyone know how I go about dowloading / rebuilding them on my new machine?? I do not have all of the songs on 1 iPod, we have about 5 iPod's connected to iTunes from this one account.
    H E L P! please.
    Thanks.

This site gives reviews of software to allow you to transfer from iPods to iTunes :
    http://ipodtoitunes.net/
Unfortunately, unless you backed up your downloaded music to another device (e.g. external HD) it is lost - it is not possible to re-download from the Store what you already purchased. Hopefully you can get as much as possible from the iPods.

  • My music is gone, but the GBs are still used...help please!

Hello...ive searched for the answer without any luck. Please help me, i've got a 60GB 4G Photo iPod.
Yesterday i selected a song to play, and it froze. I reset (select+menu) went to the same song...same results. Reset again, but this time all the music was gone! I've reset it again since, but my music (and personalized settings) still have not returned.
I've used iTunes hoping that the reconnect would help, but iTunes requested that i name my ipod, starting all over! My 50GB of music is still being reported leaving me under 10GB of free space.
I've run the iPod update, still no luck.
Is there a solution that will allow me to get my stuff back? Any help is greatly appreciated.
It was purchased in Sept 05, still has some time left under warranty.

    No.
But you can do it this way.
iTunes prefs -> Advanced. Uncheck Copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library.
Insert the DVD and in iTunes Add folder to library, select the DVD.
Leave the DVD in, connect the iPod and update it. Make sure it is on Manual update.
After you remove the DVD and restart iTunes, there will be an exclamation mark in front of the songs it cannot find (from the DVD.

  • Music is Gone

Installed 2.1.1 and the next time I powered up, there was no music BUT THE CAPACITY INDICATES IT'S STILL THERE!! I've seen online that this has happened to hundreds upon hundreds of other people. I've seen lots of guessing about how to fix it---and keep it fixed---but nobody (apparently not even Apple) can do anything but offer various suggestions. I've seen the guesses and recommendations....does anybody KNOW how what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks!!

The problem arose when the iTunes registered a fatal error message and suddenly all of my itunes music is gone
Sounds like the iTunes library database simply got messed up.
iTunes errors are NOT gonna delete a bunch of folders. Even if it did, they would still bein the trash.
That would be like Safari erroring out and deleting the Apple website.
iTunes may forget where they are but it is simple enough to fix.
Look for iTunes Music folder, open iTunes and Add to library.
The music has to be added to iTunes in order for iTunes to use it. Simply having it in the iTunes Music folder does not force iTunes to use it.

  • New phone, family sharing music all gone

    Hello all,
I just replaced my wife's phone.  We are both on iOS8.  I set up family sharing and I am the organizer.  When I set up her ID on her last phone we went into purchased music, movies, etc. and downloaded them to her phone.  When I replaced her phone today and restored from a iCloud backup, no music or movies are there.  With family sharing will my wife how to re-download music and movies every time she upgrades phones?  Do we have to go back through the long process of weeding though all my purchased albums etc.  I would've thought that once she downloaded everything she wanted once, iCloud would keep it all intact.
    Any info is appreciated!
    Bob

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If other music is not on your computer or iPod it is gone.

  • Whole music library gone

I logged into music library and all of my music is gone. I tried to restore my computer and it didn't help. Is there a "restore" in itunes? Three people use the PC, so no telling what happened. HELP! Have a lot of time in setting up my library! Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated. NO, I had never backed up my library.

You might get more replies if you post this in the forum for iTunes rather than in the iPod area.
There is no restore option in iTunes, if the music has been deleted from your PC then it is lost and you will need to load it from the CD's again.

What happens when the iPod is plugged in?  anything?  any errors?
Why is 50GB of music gone?  All music should exist on the computer.  Only a fool would rely on a single device which could easily be lost or stolen to store their content on.
