My music on iTunes has gone completely wrong. Could anyone please help me?

Hello everyone. I'll try and keep this as unconvoluted as possible so here goes...
I have iTunes 10.4.1.10, although the problem started with the previous update. I was trying to sync music from a Top rated playlist to a new iPhone (a 3GS with up-to-date-software) when I noticed that some of the albums which I had previously has on had disappeared. All of  my albums are saved onto an external hard drive, but the album icons were not on the music library. I put the albums back on (and a few new ones) and a message came up saying that the albums/songs were already there and would I like to replace them; I clicked the 'yes' button. I went about giving the songs I wanted in my Top Rated with no problems and went to sync them as normal. This is where it goes wrong.
iTunes goes through the syncing motions (Steps 1 and 2), reaches Step 3 where it syncs the songs, syncs about 40 of the songs (there are 770 in total) before reaching one of the songs which I had found missing and had put on again. iTunes crashes ( I think that describes it: the 'syncing bar' at the top stays frozen on the song, it will not shut down but everntually stops trying to syns and I can shut it down again; and when I look at the iPod on my iPhone it says cancelling sync and then that it is updating the library before going back to normal).
This was done on the first attempts, now when I try it syncs one songs before the problem song before going wrong. A thing to note about the song before is that the song that ends up on my ipod isn't the one it said that it was syncing, and the songs do not appear to be added in any sort of order.
After this I get a message that the song that caused this cannot be found: 'Attempting to copy to the disk "Charlie's iPhone" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69).' Sometimes this is followed by a similar message which says that the song in question cannot be found.
When I put my hard drive into the computer it says that there may be a problem with some of the files on the hard drive and would I like to scan and fix them, but it does not specify whether those files are music files (there are photo files, Word files, all sorts on it). I haven't given it permission to do so yet, this has not caused problems with previous i-Pods -Phones or Tunes and I don't exactly see how this would affect it now anyway seeing as the files have been re-done (burned off of iTunes and stored on the hard drive directly), but this may help work out the problem.
A few last things. There is are albums which I definately have NOT put onto iTunes or my hard drive which has appeared on my iTunes music selection and I highly doubt are in the house (Bob Acri's self-titled album containing just song 3 and Fine Music, Vol. 1 by Richard Stoltzman containing the second song), they may have been added onto the computer by another family member and just innocently found their way on iTunes and my hard drive, but they're not the sort of thing anyone in my family would listen to, so maybe that might help someone diagnose the problem too.
Also, the same thing is happening with my laptop, which has the previous update to the one I mentioned above. This would suggets that its either the new updates fault or the hard drive's fault, I would suspect it would be the former as the laptop too did not have any issues like this, or indeed at all, before the two updates.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time for reading through, and if anyone could offer any hints or tip or advice to get iTunes back to speed I would be very grateful.

  • ITunes has gone completely crazy!

    I got some unintelligible error message earlier and found that itunes would load up but only partially show up on the screen. No buttons show up, just text (lists, menu bar, etc.) and scrolling only produces a mess of text piled upon itself. I tried uninstalling and then putting an older version back in (6.0.2) but that is coming up the same. What is going on? I need itunes back to sync my ipod and to properly disconnect it.

  • Audio Track has gone white - cant hear it, please help!

    One of my audio tracks has been highlighted white and will not play back. I have soloed the track and it wont play even though i can see the data (wave) in the region. The track is also not muted. Is the data accesible again?

    Is the data accesible again?
    Probably, it is maybe muted (does it have a bullet in it's name?-there are several places to mute). It an also be muted with the light blue "M" button-your description is a little cofusing though.

    Ok, so basically I am extremely confused here.
    Could I show you what's gone wrong here?
    Ok: Go onto itunes and type in "The Best of Dubstep/Drum & Bass" and there should sit my hard worked at podcast called "The Best of Dubstep/Drum & Bass" with the artist being "DJ NRG" and there are two episodes.
    Now click on it.
    Suddenly, my podcast changes to "Underground Musik" by "Ryan Janjuha" and there only being one episode, which is exactly what I want.
    Why is this? I want the original screen to say "Underground Musik" by "Ryan Janjuha" and there only being one episode, not "The Best of Dubstep/Drum & Bass" with the artist being "DJ NRG" and there being two episodes.
    I am currently running my feed using feedburner. Any help would be so hugely appreciated its unbelievable

    Open this in FireFox, choose 'Page Source' from the 'View' menu and you will see the code for the feed: the 'title' and 'itunes:author' tag contain the title and name you mention. This feed also contains only one episode.
    Since the Search in iTunes (which updates rather more slowly than the Store page) displays the correct title, the feed must originally have contained that and been changed relatively recently, so that the Store has updated to the present contents but the Search hasn't.
    If I understand you correctly, what is now in the Store - the single episode of 'Underground Musik' - is what you want - is that right? In that case all you have to do is wait for the Search system to catch up - this may take a few days but eventually it should come round to reading what is currently in the feed. This should mean that the 'Dubstep and Bass' title will no longer produce a result, and 'Underground Musik' will.

  • ITunes capacity meter is wrong for video - please help

    Hi Experts,
    I'm having an issue where when I firsts plug my iPhone 5 into my computer, iTunes sees that it has the correct video size. Then, after sync starts, it has the wrong value. It's accounting for a movie (4+ GB) that is NOT on the phone. I know it's not there because the Windows Explorer and iPhone's Usage say I have the correct free space (5.5GB). The correct free space shown in Explorer and Usage is what iTunes reports when I first plug in the phone. Any ideas as to how to fix this? I've tried to "Restore" the phone, but iTunes won't let me because it says there's not enough free space on the phone.

    Hi vidor95,
    If you have your information backed up and are willing to do a Restore on your iPhone, but iTunes is giving you a free space error, you may want to try first erasing the content from the phone itself and/or trying a restore from Recovery Mode. You may find the following articles helpful:

  • TS3212 My iPhone is no longer syncing to iTunes on my laptop.  Can ANYONE please HELP ME!

    When I connect my iPhone through USB to my laptop my iTunes no longer opens and it also no longer Syncs.  I am currently using Windows 8.1 and if there is anything that anyone can suggest I would be incredibly grateful.

    2.INSTEAD OF JUST CLICKING ON THE GENERAL TAB AND CHANGING THE SEARCH ENGINE LIKE EVERY OTHER STUPID SUPPORT TELLS YOU TO DO LOOK AT THE TAB THAT SAYS EXTENSIONS.
    3. Chances are you downloaded something that was made by a third party to "enhance" your web experience but really they just screwed you over, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO SIMPLY UNINSTALL ANY EXTENSIONS PUT ON YOUR COMPUTER BY CLICKING INSTALL, BUT TO BE SURE THAT THIS IS THE ROOT OF YOUR PROBLEM IN THE SECOND COLUMN SIMPLY CLICK ON THE UNDERLINED NAME OF WHO THE EXTENSION IS MADE BY IF CLICKING THE LINK BRINGS UP A YAHOO PAGE THIS IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR ISSUES AND SIMPLY UNINSTALLING THIS WILL RID YOU OF THIS  DUMB PROBLEM!!

    My touch screen on my ipod Nano, Gen 6 has gone completely white. It had started going white the day before. I tried resetting it but to no avail. Does anyone know how I could fix this. Also I have 2 other ipods that I am no longer able to sync. It comes up with a message (best I can remember) something to the effect that my itunes version is not compatible with my ipod. Please help. I'm tired of buying new ipods when the new hasn't even worn off of them!!!

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer                            
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    have you tried charging the device ?
    if so and it still does not work you can try a Forced Recovery..

  • Removing imlib2-cvs: "something has gone horribly wrong

    Hi there,
    I did a pacman -Syu today, and pacman wanted to replace imlib2-cvs with imlib2. So far, so good. I said "yes" to the removal, but pacman complained that ffmpeg and adesklets require imlib2-cvs.
    So I deinstalled those two packages.
    Now, if I try to upgrade, I get the following error message:
    error: something has gone horribly wrong
    If I pacman -R imlib2-cvs, it claims that imlib2-cvs is required by adesklets and ffmpeg--even though those two packages have been removed.
    So obviously, something has gone wrong with the pacman "database." Question is: how can I fix it? Delete the entries for adesklets and ffmpeg in /var/lib/pacman? Delete the entry for imlib2-cvs? Do something completely different?
    Some feedback would be much welcome. I hope my system is not broken for good ...

    hi , i have a ipod nano, a ipod touch, a iphone 4 and a ipad all one my one account, yesterday i opened up itunes to put a film on my phone and everything in itunes has gone, no music, films, podcasts. nothing that ive bought, nothing! im signed in on my account anyone have any ideas?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
    Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
    See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    When you get it all working make a backup!
