My music won't go on my ipod touch... Help

Question

Last week I bought a vinyl record that came with a free digital download from soundtrax.com. I downloaded it, and it is currently in my iTunes library. It plays the songs on the album, the album has artwork, it is completly fine. However, I cannot put this album on my ipod at all. Furthermore, I usually buy cds and then put them on itunes, but I cannot put the albums on my ipod without the album's physical cd in the hard-drive. For example, recently I put a Muse cd on my itunes, took the cd out, then attempted to put the album on my ipod. It didn't work.
Also, the itunes I am using is on an authorised computer. My main computer (the first ever authorised computer) is completely broken, and I cannot access itunes on it at all. I bought a new laptop and downloaded itunes, authorised it and I am beginning to putting my my cds in to the library, but like i said, i cannot put them on my ipod for some reason. Please help!

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?           
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?
