My music won't sync to my phone, it's greyed out and details below.

Hey everyone,
So I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1 (I know I should upgrade but I don't think it really matters in this issue), and I had like 700 songs on it, right. Then I had downloaded some new songs into my iTunes on my PC. I wanted to just sync them onto the phone. When I clicked the Synch Music (from my Library) and then proceeded to apply and sync, the two arrows were turning as usual, but then BAM a very helpful error message pops up "Your iPhone could not be synced because the sync session didn't finish." I'm like, ok, that's cool, I'll just try it again. Bam, same message. By now I'm getting really irritated and I figure that perhaps I should free up some space. I proceed to delete like 3/4 of my photos. Then when I try it again, not only will they not let me do so, but the "Apply" button is greyed out. I'm like you know what, screw this, I'll just drag and drop them the old fashioned way. By then I realize that all of my songs are indeed in my phone's music tab on the dropdown menu once you select the device from iTunes. But here's the catch: they're all freaking GREYED OUT for no reason. And not only the new ones, ALL OF THEM. Soooo when I grab my phone and enter the Music app, the songs are greyed out on there too, and the album artworks aren't displayed. It's like they're mocking me, 'your songs are right there, but you can't reach them'. I tried to check the "Manually manage music" didn't change a thing. And no, the songs don't have an exclamation mark next to them. It's just like iTunes is deciding whether or not to trust my decisions to sync my music and the small arrows that are supposed to be revolving are just grey, frozen. Please help me. It's late and I'm seriously considering killing an Apple employee with an iPad. (joke of course, Apple, don't take me seriously.)

Have you tried to force quit the app? Got to Finder, Apple icon on top left and then select 'Force quit'.

Where is the phone number on the iPod?
If you have an iPhone with iOS and use the same ID for Messages and FaceTime as on the iPod the iPhone's phone number will be listed for Messages and FaceTime on the iPod.
If you changed phone numbers on the iPhone, sign out of Messages and FaceTime and then sing back in. Then do the same a little while later on the iPod.

I have a new desktop. I've loaded all my CDs onto it but the music won't sync with my phone. Why not

I recently needed to replace my desktop, Whern it was all set up I connected my iPhone and synced it to the new desktop. Everything syncs but my music. All my purchased mucic syncs but not my own CDs. I've now loaded all my CDs onto the new desktop, created the playlists, etc. I connected my iPhone again and made sure the computer is authorized and clicked on the image of my iPhone on the left side of the screen. I then clicked on Sync entire music library and clicked on Apply. But my music still will not sync. What do I need to do?

Try clicking on your iPhone under devices- go to the Music tab - uncheck sync music- Remove Music - Click apply - Wait for sync to finish then try rechecking sync music - Apply.

I just bought this new icloud back-up.... as soon as i downloaded it to my iphone 4s most of my music won't play on my phone. They skip over and over till it finnally catches a song and plays it. then it will stop and i have to hit play once again.

I just bought this icloud backup program from itunes for close to $30.00 and when i downloaded all my music to it from past to present it seemed to be fine.... when i disconnected and left my home and pluged in my headphones, my phone would skip through multiple songs untill it would catch one and start playing it. then I'd have to start my music again after that song and it would repeat this process of searching through my songs till it catches a song to play. any Idea's???

i guess you are referring to iTunes Match. It sounds as though you haven't downloaded all the content and are trying to play your music over a poor connection.

I message is sending messages from my email address. I have tried going in to settings/messages/send and receive which is currently defaulted to my email but my phone number is greyed out and cannot be selected.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are not able to configure your iMessage settings to include your phone number, due to it being greyed out. This issue can usually be resolved by simply turning iMessage off, restarting your iPhone, and then turning iMessage back on.

My music won't download onto my phone ever since I got ios7

I have a bunch of song i just got from the internet and they're in my library on itunes but won't sync onto my phone. I've tried syncing my phone about 7 times now and nothings changing.

I'm having the same issue. Went out and bought 6 CD's only to find that Itunes and/or iOS7 was too full of issues to be able to sync them onto my phone. Been trying for a week, converted the albums to AAC files, tried importing them directly to my phone, reset my music library. All in all i think it's safe to say that I'm not sure why i expected iTunes to actually work in the first place :/

I have updated to the io5 today, or whatever it is called, and its sweet. except the fact that my music won't sync from iTunes *usb plug* and my apps won't open whatsoever, anyone else having this problem?anyone know how to fix it?

I had the same issue....you will need to call Apple support for assistance...when you do, be SURE to get someone who is competant!!!! I got a dumb a** and they did not instruct me properly and I lost EVERYTHING on my phone!!!! What started out as a simple fix/problem has turned into a catastrophe! Good luck to you

IPhone music won't sync with new iMac computer

I've been using a PC with my iPhone. now I use an iMac and transferred my entire iTunes library from the PC to the Mac, but the music won't sync to the iPhone. I've tried restoring the phone and everything but nothing seems to be working. help?!

What are your selections under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
Are you syncing contacts with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac and if so, are your contacts and calendar events synced?
Have you selected any photos on your Mac to be transferred to your iPhone and if so, are the photos being transferred to your iPhone when syncing?
Long story short, do all other selections under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences work except for music?

I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them. I can not click on those songs and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

iTunes impossible to sync - My itunes music won't sync. I have tried it all, resetting, deleting the library and reloading, turning on and off all the possible related buttons on iphone and itunes and still mosto of the music is still with a doted circle on the left that keeps the song grayed and although I hit SYNC nothing happens. Then, there are songs on the iPhone 6 that are not on the iTunes library. How can that be possible?

According to http://robservatory.com/a-nasty-little-itunesios-bug-may-be-causing-media-sync-i ssues/, this is an iTunes/iOS bug that has to do with duplicates (or what iTunes thinks are duplicates) in your library. Rob gives a fix for the problem in the post, but it involves deleting the "duplicates". If you're like me and don't want to delete them because they aren't really duplicates, hopefully the fix will come soon.

Some of my newly purchased music won't sync, even though I converted it to the proper format.

Music purchased from the iTunes Store does not need to be converted before being used on iPods. Music from most other sources, such as Amazon, is in MP3 format and does not need to be converted. So, can you explain "even though I converted it to the proper format"?
