My MX882 will not print. I get the message "Printer not responding"

It has worked flawlessly for 18 months and there have been no system changes except for a recent WIndows security update.  This problem only affects my Dell laptop (Windows XP);  my MacBook Pro prints just fine over the network.  After speaking to Canon Tech Support three times and reinstalling the software twice, I have run out of ideas.  After the reinstalls, the printer does not show up in the Control Panel Devices and Faxes or the Device Manager, but the scanner function does work;  apparently that driver installed properly, but not the printer driver.
Tech Support has theorized that there is a security policy issue on my laptop preventing the installation of the NT 4.0 driver, and that I should contact Dell.  I got nowhere with Dell on this matter.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Update:  I unistalled the MP drivers and reinstalled from the Canon website.  The Setup Results show that the printer, scanner and fax drivers were installed and the printer now appears on the Control Panel Devices and Faxes page with a Ready status.  It does not show up on the Device Manager.  I also unistalled the latest Windows Security updates and restarted the laptop.   No luck.... I still can not print, but can scan.

Please try to temporarily disable any firewall or anti-spyware programs that are on the system.  These programs may be preventing communication with the printer.

    Re-installing does not affect your Library in any way. You don't delete it, only the app.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
    2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
    A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
    If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
    If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
    If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

    On you iPhone go to settings-iTunes & AppStore.
    Tap user name, sign out.
    Log back in with your apple ID and password.
    That should fix the problem

    I tried to update and it keeps telling me to get the Application Manager. And this is what happens

    I was not able to find the "InProgress" key.

    Apple moved some drivers for 64-bit now to where they should have been.
    Quicktime also use to place files outside the norm.
    One of the reasons I recommend when it comes to Apple:
    Wait for the ".1" and always use the uninstaller first and then install.
    That means you may want manual standalone installer instead - and that way you have 10.4.1 in case you need to later downgrade.

I use an WD passport as an external back up and retrieved my itunes library but now get the message "could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" so itunes is not recognised the exclamation marked songs, how do i get the retrieved files recognised. At times I get fed-up with Apple blocking files being used, although I like the product its restrictions are so silly!

    You not only have to retrieve the library file from the backup drive but the actual music files (usually stored within the "iTunes Media" folder) as well.

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
