My n8 gps positioning can't find me off-line abroa...

I just got back from Spain i had the maps for Spain downloaded for off-line use but for some reason in off-line mode the gps couldn't find me unless I went on-line and that can be expensive anyone know why? any help is appreciated

Yes you can do that. However dont expect the fix to not disappear, especially if its only relying on A-GPS at that moment because the I-GPS hasnt calculated yet. It will however make locking on using Integrated much faster since the app already knows your general location via the A-GPS data you have used.
Offline mode can be used completely like online (except for searches), only trouble is that it takes time to get a fix simply because the antenna quality is not on par with dedicated GPS devices.

  • How Can I find my other line's contact list?

    Hi,
How Can I find my other line's contact list? when I click "Messaging" on top menu, it shows all my line's contact list but I cannot change it to other line.
    Thank you

If you are logged in with your number, then the backup assistant will give you the contacts that are backed up for that number.  Is this what you mean by "messaging list"?
If you want to see the backup contact list for the OTHER numbers, then you need to register for a MyVerizon for EACH number (choosing from the drop down is NOT the same!)
To register the other numbers, you need to log out of your account (and may have to close the browser as well), then go to verizonwireless.com, and click REGISTER. Enter the other number(s) on your account and set up a username and password, and you will then be able to see the backup for THAT number only.
Secondary lines will see limited information on MyVerizon, and unless you have designated that number as a manager, they will not have all the options you do as the primary number.
HTH, and post back if you need more assistance.

  • Lost or stolen ipod:  can the finder turn off Mobileme?

I've searched the forums and can't find the answer; lots of lost ipod threads out there so maybe I've just overlooked it, though.  Apologies if so!  I don't have an ipod myself to fiddle with to find the answers.
My daughter lost her ipod touch, 4th generation yesterday afternoon (or possibly it was stolen?).  She did not have a security code required at the time it was lost.  She had the "Find my ipod" app installed, but it was two hours before she was able to get home to go on-line and a) add a message and b) add a security code.  We're assuming that at this point, if anyone tries to turn it on they'll get the message she posted with her phone number and they'll be locked out of using it since they won't have the security code, and hopefully we'll get some information as to its whereabouts.
However, what happens if the finder (or thief...?) turned it on during that two hour period before she had logged onto Mobileme to add the message/security code?  Could they have gotten into the Find my Ipod app and disabled it or turned it off?
Also, we live in a rural area where lots of people don't have wireless at home yet (yes, some people still have dial-up!).  I know that the Find... app requires wireless.  I assume, then, that no security code will be required if someone uses the ipod out of range of wi-fi?  And if they do so, and if the answer to the first question is "yes", then presumably they can just make sure that they're out of range of Wi-fi and go in and disable the Find... app?  or can that only be disabled from the mobileme website?
    Thanks for any info.

Thanks to everyone for your helpful information.  I really appreciate it!
Happy ending for my daughter:  someone turned her iPod into the school office this afternoon.
Strange ending for Mobileme, though, and not particularly confidence-inspiring:  even after the iPod was home and on-line, Mobileme continued to show "Location not available".  Mobileme is clearly finding it:  I just tested it by sending a message from Mobileme to the ipod, and it displayed immediately.  But it doesn't give any indication of a location.  I would have thought it might have at least displayed an IP address if nothing else, which would be helpful at least for telling whether it was at some known location (e.g. I can easily enough figure out what our IP address is at home, what the school's IP address is, and a few other locations like her cousin's house, grandparents' house, etc.  That wouldn't help much with a theft situation, but would surely help if it had been left somewhere.

  • HT2486 finding people off line

    Hi all.
How do I know if an AD address book will be searchable off line within Mac Address Book ?
    Thanks

Someone must also make the decision to use such a switch and turn it on. Someone can easily make a decision now not to be "bothered" by texts with their cell phone while they are driving. Just as with seatbelts. After being included with all vehicles, everyone didn't use them, and the same after a law was passed making using a seatbelt a requirement. Now all vehicles include an irritating loud sound and seatbelt not being used dash light alert that turns on regularly while not using a seatbelt when driving for the driver and a passenger in the front seat.

  • How to enable telemetry logs and where can i find the command line for sun

Hi i tried creating the telemetry logs directory but the logs are not being populated. i created the following directory:-
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/data/telemetry/imap/usersns1
    where usersns1 is the userid.
Also pl. tell me where can i get the command list for sun one messaging server to use the command line utility to list, delete mailboxes. also can i search for all the mailboxes under one domain name. if yes then which command i have to use.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Hi i tried creating the telemetry logs directory but
the logs are not being populated. i created the
    following directory:-
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/data/telemetry/imap/usersns1
where usersns1 is the userid.Make sure the permissions (ownership) on the user directory and the sub directory match those that messaging server uses - by default mailsrv:mail. This is the most common cause of the telemetry data not being created. The other thing to verify is that the user's account isn't stored as user@domain, otherwise you may need to create the directory as the entire user@domain (try both just to be sure).
Also pl. tell me where can i get the command list
for sun one messaging server to use the command line
utility to list, delete mailboxes. also can i search
for all the mailboxes under one domain name. if yes
then which command i have to use.The Messaging Server reference guide is a good place to start (lists all the command-line utilities/flags and what-not):
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4429?l=en
The mboxutil command is used to list/create/delete mailboxes and you can use a pattern to only list those mailboxes in a specific domain.
    Regards,
    Shane.
    thanks in advance.

  • What happened to the color and my boxes. I can't find log off, close x's and other graphics with the new version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times.

the only way I knew this spot was here is because the cursor is blinking. Only see 2 lines above here. Otherwise I can't see it. This is the same with everything since I installed the new version of Foxfire. I tried to uninstall and reinstall several times and get the same result. I will have to start using another browser but don't want to since I have used Foxfire for years. I don't have this problem on my desktop where I haven't installed the new version.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Windows Accessibility settings.

  • N8 GPS can't find my position

    Hello
I have a big problem with my N8 GPS. I just use Integrated GPS in positioning methods and I disabled A-GPS, Network and Wi-Fi options. But Ovi Map 3.04 can't find my position. I compare my phone with an N79 and a 5800 in similar situation. They can easily find the position in less than a minute! But my N8 still searching and searching…. . It’s embarrassing!!!
Can anybody help me?! Any suggestion?

Grrr ! All that "experts" here...
1, Use AGPS if you want to get a coarse estimation of your position.
    2. Use internal GPS only if you want to get a precise position.
    3. There are no (NO !) differences in position fix speeds caused by software. GPS works in a sequential way: A sequential data stream is sent by the satellites. To get a full position fix, all of that data stream has to be received, from start to end. THIS causes speed differences: If you start the GPS application at the beginning of the data stream, fix is fast. If you start it in the middle of the stream, the device has to wait for the stream starting again from the beginning. This is for collection "almanach" data - data about where the satellites are at present - they're moving.
    4. If that almanach data was received earlier and no too long ago, GPS fix is fast because the device does not have to wait for that almanach data stream. Again: It has NOTHING to do with different software.
By the way: This is what AGPS does - downloading that almanach data via internet instead of waiting to get that data via the air and trying to triangulate your coarse position with the help of comparing the signal strengths received by different cell towers. Again: This does NOT provide you with precise positioning data - just estimations. Never use AGPS if you need a reliable position fix. .
    5. GPS signals are high frequency signals. Reception of such signals may vary greatly with the phone's position: One or two cm of placing difference may cause a big change in reception.
    6. GO OUT ! Do NOT try the GPS module indoors. You MAY get sufficient signal strength inside buildings - but this is an exception, not the rule.
    7. N8s GPS receiver is really fine, very sensitive. No problem with that.
In short: Go outside. Don't use AGPS or network-based GPS. Don't believe people saying "Precise (!) GPS fix is much faster with software blabla..." Don't get fooled by a quick display of an estimated position: The real position fix did not get calculated at that point of time; it's still running in the background. This is what's causing that constant change of your position right after the first fix got displayed. A minute later, your position appears stable; and that's the point of time where real positioning data are used - not just coarse estimations.
It all depends on that almanach data and a clear view of the sky.

  • Never can obtain GPS Position

I just got my Nokia 6700 Classic and I wanted for an hour and the phone is still waiting for GPS Position! I used to have Eten X500 Windows Mobile PDA phone with 10 to 30 sec I am able to obtain the GPS Position even in my home. Is there any solution for my Nokia 6700 Classic GPS capability? Nokia pls help!

Thank you aspergerguy for the link. My issue unfortunately is not with disabling the A-GPS, but how to get a location after.
I've disabled a-gps and any network access, but cannot get a GPS location using the Ovi Maps software. I only get the message "waiting for GPS position" but even after an hour I don't get a lock on my position. I've tried all the usual:
    - placing the phone in the open
    - not touching the phone while searching as not to disrupt the GPS tracker
but no matter what I do, the phone can't find my possition.
I am using the latest version available on Nokia Ovi Suite software and have the corresponding maps installed for my region.
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of options left, except that the internal GPS is not functioning. I was hoping there was something else I could try...

  • How can I find the position of a robotic arm with a cFP-CTR card?

    Hello,
I use a CTR-500 to measure the pulses of 3 encoders.
The encoders are related to the 3 axis (x,y,z), to which a robotic arm is moving.
Each encoder has 2 channels (A,B) which go to each pair of Count Inputs of the CTR card.
When the robotic arm is moving on one axis, the corresponding pair of Count Inputs is increasing, but there is a phase between the one Count Input and the second one. What is more, the Count Inputs do not decrease when the robotic arm is moving to the other direction, but they still increase.
So, I cannot find easily the position of the robotic arm.
What I have done, is to try finding the position, by using only one Counter Input for each axis. This means that I use the value of the encoder as a counter, and I calculate the position with some software tricks. But for some reason, it does not work properly.
I have heard that the method I use is not proper. Instead, I have been told that I must use the phase of the 2 Count Inputs, in order to find the direction to which the robotic arm is moving. But, the Count Inputs of the CTR are augmenting in parallel, when the robotic arm is moving forward or backward.
How can I find the position of the robotic arm, as it is moving like a CNC ?
    Thank you very much.

You don't want to use a cFP-CTR-500 card.  What you have are quadrature signals.  You should be using the cFP-QUAD-510.  It has 4 channels that can handle both the A and B signals of a quadrature encoder.  It has the built in circuitry do determine the phasing of A vs. B to know when to count up vs. count down.

  • How can I find the actual GPS coordinates of a photo?

IPhoto 11:  for purposes of cross-referencing photos with physical samples (rocks, plants...) I want to be able to display (or otherwise discover) the actual GPS coordinates that iPhoto has imported with my still photos from Sony HDR-CX520V high definition video camera (GPS enabled).  Can I find the coords within iPhoto?

I don't believe you can. I'm pretty sure that Graphic Coverter  can do this.

Where can I find the GPS coordinates in iPhoto 11 for geotagged pics? In iPhoto 09 this information was available under the Photos menu "Show Extended Photo Information".

I think you can only see the map.  To see the actual EXIF data you would need to export and use a viewer.
