My nano (4G) shuts off while playing, doesn´t respond until plugged in, then apple logo appears and it restarts.  Restore worked for a week, same problem today.  Says it is 50% charged.

My Nano shuts off in the middle of playing music/podcasts. It won´ respond until plugged in, then apple logo appears and it restarts.  I restored factory settings and installed the newest OS which worked for a week, but it´s the same problem today.  It happens while at 50% power or better (according to battery icon).

It sounds like the battery itself is going bad, which is likely given the age of the 4G Nanos.  You'll want to have your iPod serviced by Apple or a third party service center to have them swap the battery out.  Otherwise, it's time to start investing in a new iPod.

  • Constantly shuts off while playing music

My 6th generation nano constantly shuts off while I am running and listening to music.  I have tried pressing the sleep button and turning off the shake to shuffle.  Please help!!

This is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano.

iPad won't shut off.  Display doesn't respond to slide motion.

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • I have an older iPod that no longer shows up in iTunes or appears to be charging.  When I press the Menu and Select buttons, the Apple logo appears and then an icon of a battery with an exclamation point.  Is it dead for good?

If it is otherwise working, you can change the battery.  If you want to do it yourself, you can buy the part on eBay and other online sources.  Just make sure you know the type of iPod you have so that you get the right part.

There are online guides, including the ones on this web site
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iPod
(Note:  Most replacement batteries come with plastic/nylon tools seen in the guides.)
You can also have a repair business do the work.
If it is just the battery, if you do a Reset (using the Menu and Select buttons) while it is connect to your computer, I think it should still be recognized by iTunes.

Try recovery mode as described here.

  • When i clicked on erase all content and setting in my iphone3, it first shut down and next the apple logo appears and then nothing happens, how to fix it

when i clicked on erase all content and setting in my iphone3, it first shut down and next the apple logo appears and then nothing happens, its been 12hrs since like that. i tried force restart by clicking the home and sleep/wake button, and still same issue.

I believe with the 3G and the older iOS, erase all content and settings acts differently than the newer iOS. You can use this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 to place the phone in recovery mode and restore it.

  • HT201412 My iPod Touch 4th Gen keeps shutting off (like it's dying) and turns white and looks frozen...then an apple logo appears and takes a while to come back on. This only happens when I try to edit photos (cropping, especially)? Help me pleaseee!

When this happened the first time, I seriously thought it wouldn't come back on. I was trying to crop something out of the of a photo and it shut off like it was dying (it was fully charged) and then froze, turned white, then an apple logo appeared. Once it turned on i went back to do what i was doing and it did it again. The next time it turned on, I went to play Design this Home, and it didnt shut off..so my only reasoning is that this happens when i edit a photo...i haven't done anything abnormal with my iPod and don't understand why this is happening...please please help!

That is a known bug in iOS 5.1.1. The iPod "crashes" when editing photos. Just do not edit photos and wait for the next update. Most users have said it crashes when editing screen shots.

  • On my iPod Touch, the Apple logo appears and then shuts off again. What do I do?

It has been doing this for a while. It became unresponsive so I turned it off and now it won't turn on. I know it's not dead, because I had just got done charging it all the way. I've tried almost everything and it still doesn't work. Help?

  • Nano won't reset, Apple logo appears and disappears, Nano won't mount!

My battery died on my 1G Nano sometime last night or the night before. I went to try to wake it up today, and nothing happened ... would not wake up.
I connected the Nano to the Dock connector which was directly connected to my 24" iMac. The Nano tried to restart, but would not re-start completely, most likely because the battery was completely dead.
I tried re-setting by toggling on and off the Hold switch and then pressing the Menu and Select buttons, but that did not work. I also tried plugging the Nano into an external USB charger (for regular iPod) and resetting. I still can not get it to reset.
The Apple logo appears on the screen for a second, the screen lights up for a second, then the screen goes dark again and the Apple logo re-appears and the process starts all over again.
This has been going on for over 20 minutes. Apple logo will appear, screen lights up, screen goes dark, Apple logo re-appears, etc, etc, etc, etc. Do you see a pattern emerging here?
    Please help!
    Thanks

When my iphone cracked out, I plugged it in. If it is still discovered in itunes, on the left side bar you should see you device's name. If you click it, near the top it will show your device and have options for backup or just plain restore (which I might recommend here). And if this works awesome! If not, RIP iPhone

  • Laptop doesn't boot or shuts off while playing games

Sometimes when I boot my laptop it passes through the welcome screen then goes to black and stay there. This has been happening ever since I spilled tea on the keyaboard and had it fixed by an outside repair company. Sometimes I am able to get in and start the computer but when I try to play games (Pay Day 2) the computer again goes to black. I thought it was due to an overheating problem the repairmen might have caused but I went ahead and changed the thermal paste on the cpu but to no avail.

  • IMAC SHUTS OFF WHILE PLAYING ITUNES

My IMac shuts off (like the plug was pulled) while playing ITunes and after the computer has been on for several hours.  I am running OSX10.5.8.  Any suggestions?   My fan would not quit running a few weeks ago and I used the Program "clean my pc" and that corrected the problem or at least I thought it did.  The fan does not audible run (loudly) any longer.

Shutting down like that MIGHT be a sign of overheating.
Suggest that you download XRG   http://www.gauchosoft.com/Products/XRG/   which monitors your computer's processor temperature and hard disk temperature, and also shows fan speeds.
Run XRG and watch what it does as you run iTunes leading up to the moment that your Mac shuts down. See if the temperatures are increasing, and if they are, the fans should also increase. If the fans don't run as well when the temperature rises, then they might be broken and can be repaired (typically).
