My nano stops playing every song

... 1 or 2 or 3 minutes in. Have to hit the 'on' button then the 'play' arrow to make it continue. This happens 2-4 times in the course of one song. Can I adjust it in 'settings'? Is my nano just broken or ill?

Hey cmccnano,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you have not already done so, does resetting your iPod nano help the issue?

If not, you may want to isolate further by restoring the iPod to factory settings. This will help us determine if the issue is hardware related:

i have updated, restored, reinstalled an all that but i really dont want to send it back as im in afghanistan and would be weeks before i see it again an i use eveyday!! for running.. i thought maybe sweat had got inside it, its not the headphones i have already tried swapping them.
please help out a soldier in need?

mine is doing the same thing; I have updated it, and restored the factory settings, and it still isn't working. I use mine for running as well; I think it has something to do with the sweat. Hopefully someone posts with a fix.

  • Stop playing the song

is it possible to stop playing a song at ipod nano 7th, not just pause it?

See page 21 of your iPod's user guide for information on how to turn off the repeat feature.

  • My Apple iPod Nano stops playing shortly after plugging in the correct headset, but works on docking station. I've tried enabling and disabling crossfade in settings. Any suggestions?

My apple ipod Nano stops playing shortly after plugging in the correct headset. I've tried enabling and disabling crossfade in settings. Any suggestions?

Make sure your headphones are plugged ALL the way in, meaning the white part of the headphones is flush with the Nano and you cannot see any silver from the plug still showing.

  • My nano stops playing

My nano stops playing music after about 45 seconds, then shutsdown. I've tried a re-start on the nano and on my Mac while syncing, neither worked. Any ideas?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

  • TS3274 My iPad plays a song and then stops; I press manually for next song, but it either plays same song, a different song that I pressed, or will play the next song, but keeps stopping after every song I play.  Help?

When I go to play songs the iTunes will play a song then stops (repeat all or one song is not on and also shuffle is not on); I manually click for next song an it wll ( play the next song and stops, it will play same song and then stops, or it will play a song randomly and then stops) .  Help!

Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • ITunes stops after every song

Hey there, sorry for the potential stupid question. I've been using iTunes for a long time now, but I've never encountered this before. Basically, the title says it all. After every song, iTunes goes idle. This occurs in playlists, the library...everywhere. Maybe I checked something random without intending to, but I've looked around and can't figure it out. Any help would be more than, um, helpful. Thanks!

Welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
Did you accidently uncheck all the tracks in your library? Are the boxes in front of all the titles unchecked? If so, place your cursor over one of the unchecked boxes and Command-Click. All of the boxes should turn blue and will now contain a checkmark. iTunes will stop if there are no checkmarked tunes to move to after the currently playing track.

  • 2G iPod Nano Stops Playing at Random

My wife's 2nd Gen nano (4 GB pink in case it matters) stops playing after a few songs. The number of songs is not consistent. And it doesn't matter how the songs are selected (playlist, genre, artist, etc).
I've done the five R's already and that hasn't helped.
What other information can I give you?

This may seem like a simple question but: Is it locked?
Related to that: Is the hold button fully over to the locked position and the padlock symbol available on screen?

  • I changed a setting and now my nano only plays one song at a time over and over again.  What and Where to I need to change

I must have changed a setting because the nano will only play one song and then repeat the one song.  How do I change it back so it will play all the songs on the list?

Sounds like you turned on the repeat single song feature.
Go to now playing, then swipe right to left to get to the second screen. At this second screen you will see three icons. The one on the left looks like a loop and I am going to guess that there is a little "1" there on the loop. Hit that button until the 1 goes away. You will be able to find all this info in the online documentation for the Nano. That planb linked to above.

  • ITunes 10.5 Stops Playing Some songs mid-song and skips to the next

I migrated a friend’s iTunes library from a Win Vistamachine to Windows 7 Home Premium. Not sure what version of iTunes he had onthe Vista setup, but it’s 10.5.1 on the new machine. In the process, I backedup the sizable (6,000+ songs) iTunes library to an external hard drive, andrestored it to the new Win7 machine.
Now about 10% of his songs will start playing and at randomtimes, will skip to the next song without completing.
I found a fix, but it’s pretty tedious – there’s got to be abetter way to fix this.  Here are thesteps when a song stops playing and jumps to the next:
    Locate     the song in Windows.
Copy     it to the desktop (or another safe spot)
Delete     the song from iTunes, selecting the option to remove it from the hard     drive.
Cut     the song from the desktop and paste it back in the folder where it came     from
In     iTunes:  File>Add Folder to     Library… Navigate to the folder and add it.
Once the song is added back to the library, it plays justfine.
This solution works for identified files. However, with6,000+ songs in a library and no way to determine which files are affected on amacro level, this really is not a solution.
There is no noticeable pattern. This seems to happen toabout 10% of the files in the library. One particular song (Foo Fighters:  The Pretender) was duplicated on the harddrive and in the iTunes library.  BOTHversions of the song stop playing with 0:21 remaining and skip to the nextsong.  However, another song in thelibrary stops playing at 1:01.
Some of the troubled files are .m4p, some are .mp3. Thefiles themselves are not corrupted.  Itested several in QuickTime and they played to the end. Additionally, as shownabove, when they are deleted from the library and restored they play just fine.
I have deleted the com.apple.iTunes.plist as suggested inother articles, but this did not help.
    Any help is appreciated.

Try working through the 5 R's of troubleshooting to rule out the possibility of a software glitch or corrupted data.

  • IPod Touch 2nd Gen (iOS 4.2.1) stops playing certain songs but screen remains.

    iPod Touch 2nd Gen 32GB
    iOS 4.2.1
    roughly 4.89 GB free
During playback, the Touch stops playing on certain specific songs, but the screen remains as is (that is, doesn't go back to menu or black).  I suspect "bad blocks/sectors" on the memory chip, but have no way of checking.  Pressing pause and then play again doesn't help.  Skipping back to previous song and then forward doesn't help.  Skipping forward does not work (next song doesn't play).  This affects only certain very specific and recently added songs.
I've tried Reseting (erasing all content) and Restoring from backup.  Problem still occurs.
Next step is to Reset (erase all content) and setup as a new ipod.  Then reload music content.  All content is AAC at 192kbps or lower.
    Anyone have any thoughts?

If the songs play OK in iTunes on the comnputer:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod Nano stops playing

My iPod Nano 5g stops playing a file (after 2 hours), but it plays Ok in iTunes to the end.   Latest software.  Manual synch. The file is long (29 hours of audio).   How can I get my iPod to play it through?   (Tried restore and recopy.)

I couldn't find any documentation regarding this, but I believe the 2 hour time limit is the maximum length your iPod can play of an audio file.  So you may need to break this one up if at all possible.  If not, I am afraid you are out of luck.

  • IPhone has stopped playing certain songs, crashes when apps are opened

Over the past few days, I've started experiencing some odd problems with my first-gen iPhone. The first problem I experienced was that third party apps purchased from the iTunes store wouldn't open. When I selected them, they would launch and then close right away. This happened with most - but not all 3rd party apps. All of the basic iPhone processes, like YouTube, stocks, email, etc. all worked fine. I've tried resetting or recharging the phone - sometimes it works and I can then open the apps and other times, it doesn't and the problem continues.
The other issue is that some songs won't play on my iPhone. The song comes up in the player but there's no sound. I did a little bit of investigating and it appears that the songs that won't play were purchased through iTunes and not loaded from a CD. I'm not experiencing this issue with every purchased song, though. Some of them play, others will not. From what I can tell, there's no discernible pattern for which songs play and which don't. I thought perhaps it was an issue with the amount of time since I had purchased the song but that doesn't appear to be the cause. I have some songs I downloaded a year ago that will play, where other year-old songs will not. Similarly, a few songs I purchased just last week won't play, where others purchased last week will. I can play these songs on other hardware - my iMac, streaming through AppleTV.
I've tried everything - resetting the phone, removing the content and reloading it, and finally doing a factory reset on the phone but nothing has worked. This phone is close to 2 years old. Is it on its last legs? I'm waiting on the iPhone 3.0 and will most certainly upgrade so I'm not overly concerned about the long term effects of these issues. However, since I'm anticipating that the new iPhone won't be released immediately, I'd like to have a working iPhone for at least a few more weeks. Any ideas what might be happening?

Try restoring your phone as new, not from a backup. This is different from a rest. See p. 141 of the manual... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
