My Nano went bats on me.

I am beyond confused and VERY desperate for help! I recently aquired an unused Nano from a friend, and I've been having no problems with it until today. I have not purchased anything from itunes, instead I've used CD's I already legally own.
This morning, I turned on my ipod and started searching my 'Artist' list, and noticed that several of them were missing. I couldn't figure out why certain artists (The Cure, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Depeche Mode, etc.) weren't there and others were, so I went to the 'Genre' list and found my entire 'Alternative' list was gone. So, my first question is "Why did an entire genre dissappear?"
Secondly, I went back to itunes to try and put them on my ipod again, but when I click 'Update', I get a notice saying
"Some of the songs in the iTunes music library, including the song "insertsonghere", were not copied to the ipod "insertipodnamehere', because they cannot be played on this ipod."
These are legally bought, legally owned CD's that worked on my Nano for weeks! I even tried a suggestion to go to the "Advanced" tab and click "Convert Selection to AAC". The result was that the test song I used became horribly muffled and messed-up sounding. What's wrong? I hadn't even hooked my ipod up to the computer, so it's not something that I could have done.

I have a similar problem with some songs I downloaded off PureVolume.com (legally) for free. Some of the songs won't sync to the iPod and it comes up with the same message. I have yet to find a solution.
However, if you click on the detail for the problem, you can search your computer for the song files. As I was never able to find the song files in my computer, I can't help you any further than that.
One potential solution, though, would be to simply delete all affected songs and then import them from the CDs again.

  • My ipod nano went weird?

For the past year I've been putting music on the ipod nano with no problem. The music was fine, perfect quality.
Yesterday I wanted to put more songs on it so I downloaded itunes and installed it.
Dragged my songs onto the ipod and let it finish doing its thing.
Then I went to listen to the music and it was normal, but after about an hour all my songs suddenly changed. They didn't sound like they were supposed to.
I can't really describe it, but it just didn't sound right at all. For example it's like they got a bad singer and horrible band and forgot to make it sound better.
I don't know what to do, I've already tried resetting it and I want to think as formatting as a last resort because I don't have half the cds the songs came from anymore...
    Please help T_T

They are all in Itunes library, but it won't recognize my ipod.
I'm not sure what that means. When you hook up your nano to the computer, does it appear in the bar along the left side? If so, select a sync method (automatic or manual) and sync the tunes you want on the nano.

  • My brother's iPod nano went through the washer and dryer!

My brother was looking for his nano for like a week. Yesterday my mom cleaned his room and put his clothes in the laundry. Today when we were folding the clothes we found it in his pants and it was really hot. Will it survive?

Maybe.  Put it in a bag of uncooked rice, let it sit for a week.
    Good luck.

  • I had my shuffle synced with this computer and library. then i went and did it with an older nano. now my computer is not recognizing my shuffle. how do i fix this without losing my purchased songs or library?

i had and old nano that i havent touched in years. well just recently i synced my new shuffle to my computer and all went well. i then wanted to put the newly purchased songs on my nano. well when i did that somehow my computer no longer recognizes my shuffle. not to mention someone cut me off the other day and my nano went for a swim and will not work. please help me

    Try this:
Right clicking on your ipod in the device list an d choosing "transfer purchases" will copy apps and bought media from iTunes to your computer. Due to the new iTunes library on your new HD, iTunes will erase your ipod during the first sync. To save your data to the computer take a look at this article about saving data from your device to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
Basically it's backing up manually, transferring her purchases (apps and bought music), letting iTunes erase the ipod due to the new iTunes library, and restoring from the manual backup again, to get all the data and settings back.
Make sure your new computer account is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Is there a fix for a Nano 6G "White Screen" or is it toast?

My Nano went "white screen of death" on me.  Could someone give me the good or bad news please?
    Thank you!

    BTW...out of warranty/no AppleCare :-(

  • Water damage nano will not hold charge

so my new ipod nano went through the wash, i didnt turn it on put it in rice on top of the boiler to dry out for a few days. plugged it into my compture reset it and it worked, but it second its took of charge it just goes off, anyway of fixing it please ?

I would not have it repaired.  I would take it to Apple and get an out-of-warranty replacement.  I believe it's $199 for the 4S.

  • Nano dims and shuts off..within 30-45 seconds

I turn on my nano...sttart to play a song....the music note shows up...starts to dim and then the nano shuts off...in the middle of a song.....

I too was having the same problem ~ my brand new nano would play through perhaps a minute of a song, then when the screen dimmed,..... the nano went into sleep mode.  I was so disappointed!  Cound not correct the problem through any setting options, and the manual did not identify this particular problem.  I am so glad I happened upon these tips ~ it was indeed the headphone connection that wasn't quite 'there'!  Plug them in until the connector sits flush against the nano leaving no gap at all and, if you are lucky, that is all that is required for the thing to play successfully!!

  • Nano Frozen with folder & exclamation point

Got my husband a nano for father's day. Everything went well, installed with CD, connected w/ USB, updated songs and then when OK to disconnect, disconnected nano. As soon as that happened nano went blank. Nothing worked, computer didn't recognize, buttons wouldn't work. Uninstalled, re-installed twice, nothing. Nano isn't recognized by computer when connected with USB or firewire (20GB iPod working fine). Let it rest for over 24 hours, and now finally when connected via firewire have dreaded folder w/ exclamation point. Tried to reset but the apple icon flashes and right back to folder. With update window won't let me restore as computer doesn't think the nano is connected. Also tried restarting computer also no luck. Any suggestions?

Still having same problem with nano connected to power source for over 24 hours.

  • IPod nano 6th backlight out.

My ipod nano went through the wash and now the backlight doesnt work. it connects to itunes and can still play through the 3.5 but the backlight is screwed. i can still make out the screen at the right angle of light. is there anyway to fix this?

You can check http://www.ifixit.com to see if they have any screens available, if you don't want to do it yourself you can try http://www.iresq.com. Or take it to an Apple Store and see if they have an out-of - warranty replacement cost.

  • Ipod went through washing machine

Never had any problems with ipod until today. It went into washing maching. What can I do to dry it out without damage? Or is it too late.

Dont give up hope! My daughters Nano went through a full cycle before Christmas. Left it on a radiator for a week to dry out thinking it would be dead, but it works! I Tunes still recognises it, I can still sync it and it will play on a speaker doc, it was just the screen that did not work, so you could not choose songs and take pot luck, but hey presto the screen has suddenly started working as well. Ours works for what we need it to do, a few functions still dont work - menu click, but the thing is it still works and the sound is fine! Good luck.

  • My iPod went thru the wash? Any ideas or is it junk now?

MY iPod nano went thru the wash, any ideas or is it junk now?

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

  • 6th Gen Nano- which part needs replaced?

My wife's 8GB Nano went through the wash. Currently, if plugged into the computer, it is recognized in iTunes and I can interact with it appropriately. Several times, without any consistency, the screen will work and the iPod functions correctly. This lasts ~30 min, at the longest, then the screen again becomes unresponsive. The battery can charges to full based on the indicator in iTunes, and does hold a charge (possibly sub-optimally) based on the level during the times when the screen works. My goal is to fix it using aftermarket parts. My question is, given the information above, should I start out with a new screen, assuming the connection to the main board is faulty? Should I replace the board itself, despite it functioning well in iTunes when the screen is off?

I've had good luck drying out all different iDevices with the exception of the 6th Generation Nano, I put in in a baggie with silica gel, let it dry for 7 days in a warm, dry spot (skip putting it in the sun) and I was not able to revive it.
My recommendation would be to do an out-of-warranty replacement with Apple. The Nano is small and difficult to work on and your parts will probably come to a hire pice than just doing the OOW replacement.

  • TS1369 iPod Classic is not recognised by iTunes or by my PC (XP)

    Hi
Since I updated my iTunes over a week agao I can no longer sync my iPod Classic as it is not recognised by iTunes or by my PC (XP).  Apple have been great so far and have sent me lots of links and called many times to try to resolve the issue, but to no effect.  They kindly agreed to replace the iPod as it appeared there is a hardware fault as a result of the update, BUT last night my housemate went to update his iPod Nano for his holiday (he uses the same PC but logs in under a different system user and has his own iTunes) and he now has the same problem!!!!!
I have done everything on this link:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Checked the USB port works with other hardware (yes)
    Changed the iPod cable (yes)
    Removed and resinstalled itunes (yes)
Placed iPod into disc mode (yes)
    Reinstalled the USB drivers (yes)
None of it works!  Other hardware works in the USB ports and my iPod is recognised in my work PC!  So something during the iTunes update has caused a major problem that I can't seem to fix I assume on my PC.  When I reinstall the USB drive, the PC then has a pop saying that an ipod is connected, and then immediately after a new pop up saying there is a hardware issue! Aaaaargh.
    At a loss... Any suggestions?
(The screen of my housemates iPOd nano went blank a few weeks ago and wasuseless, so an apple store replaced it for him; so his new nano is only 5 weeks old!)
    Cheers
    Howard
