My nano won't turn off..

I've read all the posts and tried all the tricks listed so far and found 0 help. My nano decided it will forever live in the menu stage. I've tried all the troubleshooting ideas and, well, here I am.
Any suggestions?

I too have the same problem... However, I can expand with some observations and some steps that I attempted to take to cure the problem.
After plugging the Nano into my PC to charge it, I noticed that after it was plugged in for about 5 mins, that it looked as if I was plugging the nano in and unplugging it repeatativly. The menu would change from the "Do not disconnect" screen to the normal menu. I attempted to eject the unit, unplug it and remount it but the same thing would happen. This "cycling" was also evident on the PC screen with the USB eject menu cycling too.
Now, here is the really interesting this...
The Nano screen started to display this whenever plugging it into the PC:
"FireWire connections aree not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided" Press Center to Dismiss"
The Nano is plugged in the the USB cable and the cable is plugged into a USB 2.0 connector on the computer. I have been using this Nano for over a month since I got it with this configuration...
Finally, I decided to remove the Nano from the USB cable and attempted to Reset it. This appeared to have made no difference excpet that now when I plug the Nano into the USB cable, I now get the charging icon on the display and the screen will change to a charging screen after the display timeout occurs.
The PC does not recognize the Nano at all so I cannot restore it. I have tried installing the software on another computer but have the same problems...
And, for those of you who might think that the USB cable is bad, think again... I borrowed one from a friend of mine and have the same problem...
I really could use anyones help here...
Thanks...

My nano won't turn off, and it is frozen on one screen?

Could it be something as simple as the Hold switch got turned on? I would try resetting it.
This will work for Nano's generation 1-5.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) button simultaneously until the  Apple logo appears, about 6-8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    For a 6th Generation:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for 8-12 seconds or until the Apple logo appears. You may need to repeat this step.
    For a 7th Generation:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home Button until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.

  • Light of nano won't turn off - normal??

    Hi @ all!
    My problem:
While connected to my Computer and also connected to iTunes, my iPod nano doesn't turn off its light as the 2nd gen nano did. It just stays lit on, saying 'Connected' and the 'disconnect from iTunes first' stuff as it should (i hope it should ^^)
    Is that normal?
Shouldn't it turn off the light, as it's kinda waste of Electricity and it might have to load the battery longer as its lit all the time.
Also I think that it's not very good for the display to show the same thing with light on for let's say 3 hours.
Could anyone help me? Is it normal that the light stays turned on while connected to iTunes on 3rd gen iPod nanos?
    Thanx in advance
    elFlexor

It stays on untill you "eject" it. After that you can leave it plugged in and the light will turn off like normal. You can let it charge as is, or you can turn the nano off. Either way it will charge with the light off.

  • Ipod Nano won't turn off anymore

Since a view days i can't shut down my ipod anymore. I tried to reset is, used the updater and even used the restore option.
But everytime i turn it off it goes on in about 5 seconds on its own. It only shuts down when the battery is empty.
I hope it's just an software error:(
    Greets Marcel.

    Hello Marcel,
And welcome to Apple Discussions by the way,
Why isn't there a button for ''this doesn't help me at all''?
    Because that would be rude.
Because this wasn't very helpfull since i've read all the help and support stuff from the apple website.
If that is the case, you should have mentioned that in your original post. How would we know what you have and have not tried? We all have to start somewhere when it comes to troubleshooting these kinds of issues.
I think it is a hardware problem since non of the software fixes work.
If you already know what the problem is, you should know what steps to take next. If you have a warranty, take advantage of it now. If not visit your closest Genius bar and have them take a look at or set it up to be serviced, either through Apple or a third party repair company.
    Best of luck.

  • MY 1st GEN IPOD NANO WON'T TURN OFF IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY

It just seems to have a problem recognizing when i'm pushing the play/pause button or if I'm trying to shut it off. It has had water damage is their any way to make it shut off. PLEASE.

Hi, i had the same problem with my 1st gen 4GB nano. I solved it by chosing not to visualize the clock on the ipod display. you can change this option from the ipod prefernces. Apparently visualizing the clock on the display triggers some kind of bug.... Don't ask me why or how, but it worked! good luck:)

  • My Ipod nano 7th generation turned off and won't turn back on. what should I do?

my Ipod nano 7th generation turned off and won't turn back on. what should I do?

If you have done the reset and nothing appears and you are sure it still has a charge and it doesn't turn on, you may request for a replacement if it still covered by the warranty. Cheers!

  • IPod classic won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock; what's up? will it hurt to leave it on all the time?

I bought a new iPod Classic and it won't turn off when plugged into a home theater dock. Is this normal and will it hurt the iPod if i leave it on all the time?

    Hi there,
How old is your Classic? Often, after a couple of years, rechargable batteries begin to fail, especially after such a long period of inactivity. This happens with any gadget with this type of battery.
Try leaving it plugged in for 24 hours, and try again, to rule out that it isn't just really low on charge. If this doesn't help, it may be a good time to buy a replacement. New iPod Nanos and Touches will be released this October.
Below, I've linked to an Apple website which explains rechargable batteries, and why yours may not be working.
    Apple - Batteries
I hope this helps, and I hope upgrading your device will not feel like an unnecessary expense. Let me know if you have any more questions,
    Nathan

  • Charged indicator seems to be stuck, ipod won't turn off!!! help

I took my ipod running last week and it got a little damp in my trousers!!
Since then it will not turn off anymore. I have let the battery die down. I have reset it on the ipod and on itunes, but nothing seems to help.
It just won't turn off, the charged sign (large battery with a plug in it) shows all the time.
If I leave if as it is over night, the battery is then dead.
    Can anybody help me.
It's an ipod nano 1gen. not even 6 months old.

If it got wet, set it in a cool, dry place and leave it there for at least a week. Then connect it to power (preferably a wall charger) and let it charge for at least 30 minutes, then Reset it (hold down the menu and center buttons for at least 6 seconds). If it comes to life, connect it to your computer, Restore it in itunes, then let it fully charge.

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR won't turn off, just restarts

K7N2 Delta ILSR won't turn off, just restarts.  Every time I click on "Turn off computer" in Windows XP, it shuts down, but restarts again. Could this be OS related, or perhaps Bios related. My other machine, almost identical to this one, except that the other machine has BIOS rev 7.6 and this one 7.2.

PSUs seem to be yr favorite subject, but I'm afraid this time it's software. I experimented some more as the problem only occured after installing the Nvidia drivers. Comparing the system settings in the device manager before installing drivers and after installing them, reveils that the problem shows up when AGP HOST TO PCI BRIDGE is installed. When killing this item the PC shuts off properly. Unfortunately when turning back on, Windows automatically reinstalls the PCI bridge and I have the problem again. LOOKS LIKE A MSI SOFTWARE PROBLEM !
By the way I have a PCI graphics board and not AGP in the failing PC (the good one has AGP graphics).
    Now what?

  • My iPod Classic 160 is in disc mode and won't turn off, itunes doesn't recognize it - ¿how can I make it work again?

My iPod Classic 160 is in disc mode.  I responds to nothing.  iTunes doesn't recognize it.  It doesn't sync.  I've tried to restore and got error 1429.  Now it just stays in disc mode and won't turn off.  I'm keeping it connected to the charger so it doesn't go dead.  Is there anything I can do to resurrect my pod?

To get out of disk mode do a iPod Hard Reset.
Toggle the Hold switch till you dont see the red mark.
Press Menu and Center buttons simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON then release the buttons

  • I accidentally dropped macbook air that was in a book bag. The keyboard is working because I can see the light but the screen is black and it won't turn off. How should I fix this? Please Help ME!!

I accidentally dropped my friend's macbook air that was in a book bag. The keyboard is working because I can see the light but the screen is black and it won't turn off. How should I fix this? Please Help ME!!
I tried to turn it off and it didn't work... and I held on to the shift key too and it still doesn't work..
    Please help me..

Accidental damage is not covered under Apple warranty.  And it seems there is much accidental damage.  Only a Genius Bar tech looking at it can tell how much it will cost to repair.
Cost to repair will be high, I suspect (though Genius Bar will confirm/deny.
There is no gentle way to say this sir/ma'am ... someone will need to pay for your friend's MBA repairs.

  • I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S. It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S, 16 GB to the most recent version (8.1?).  I don't know what I was updating from, because I can't access that, but it was whatever was installed on it (I got it about a year ago, so probably 6.something).
It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync with my macbook plus, which is what I have always sync'd it to.  (I backed it up and sync'd it right before I tried to update the software.)
Since it originally froze almost 3 hours ago, it shows a white screen with the apple on it and a line underneath.  When I try to sync with my laptop, it says it needs me to enter a passcode on the phone, which I can't enter because the screen is frozen.  So I'm unable to access the iPhone portion of iTunes.
I have tried to turn it off, with no luck.  I have tried rebooting my laptop and syncing, but I still get the same result.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I really wanted to wait to update the software, but I was having internet connectivity issues for the past 3 weeks, and Sprint suggested updating the phone's software.
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

my ipad won"t turn off. there is a small window with an email text in it and it appears frozen on the screen. How can i turn the ipad off?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
