About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
The facts are:
1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
protection against malware.
5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

Need more info. You posted in the OS X 10.3 and below forum. Your profile lists you have a Mac Pro, but a Mac Pro can't rum OS 10.3
What Mac do you have and what OS X version is it running?
What are you calling "pop ups"?

There are no more details to give.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.<br /> -
While I was in a website, I had a message to allow, block etc pop-ups but I think I may have mistakenly pressed 'allow'. I wish to change a pop-up allowability. Can it be changed back?

I keep getting pop ups what do i do?
it is getting very annoying i used to get them i took my laptop to the apple store. but now I'm in puerto rico there is no apple store what do i do!?
If you see a lot of pop ups most likely you have adware on your mac.
Follow the instructions on this web page in order to manually remove adware from your mac: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
You may also find adware removal guide on this page http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-identification/
If you do not want to remove adware manually use adware medic tool in order to scan and remove it: http://www.adwaremedic.com/
Download, open adwaremedic dmg file , and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button to remove adware.
Once done, quit AdwareMedic and restart your mac.

My iPad has frozen in Safari & is showing a pop-up - what can i do?
I just went into Safari & got this window + a pop up that says it is from"http://www.prizegiveaway.org" & I should click on "OK" to claim the iPhone 4s i just won (yeah, sure)
but I can't move to any other window, or to any of my bookmarks. I've tried closing down & restarting but it is still there.
Mail, facebook etc are still working
any ideas??Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History (you might also want to turn off pop-ups to try and stop it happening again)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
I'm getting lots of pop ups; what's up with that?
I'm seeing lots of pop ups whenever I google something; didn't use to happen. Why is this happening?

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

Every time i go to a new page, my Content Advisor page pops up asking for my password< what can i do to turn it off
Content Advisor is set to "disable" by default. The Administrator has to change this. If you have this privilege, then:
Click to open Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Content tab, and then, under Content Advisor, click Enable. If you've previously enabled Content Advisor, click Settings, and then type the supervisor password.
Click a category of content in the list, and then move the slider to set the limits you want. Repeat this for each category you want to change.
Click OK.
If a supervisor password has not previously been set up for Content Advisor, you will be prompted to create one.

Pop-ups - what about this?
Is it possible to create a link in Presenter that opens a small HTML pop up in the middle of the page? (in other words each pop up is an HTML file already uploaded online) If so does anyone know how to do this?

Hello I keep getting an error when I am trying to dawnlaw OS-X an any other software why?
Are you trying to download an app that runs on OS X that's for an iPad ??
OS X is for Macs, not an iOS based device such as the iPad noted in your profile. -
I have no more image options in my Content panel.
I have to open an about:config window to turn images on or off. But that's the only blunt instrument I have. I cannot specifically allow certain websites' images and block others.
This has happened since upgrading to Aurora 23.''n00bishness wrote:''
So next question if you've an answer: what's the future of those bugs? Is that the course the Mozilla team is now taking to make things simple for majority users?
The changes have been implemented. They're very likely turn up in Firefox 23, which is slated for release around August 7th.

Flash pop-ups- how can I block them?
I'm getting a lot of these in the past 2 weeks. I scanned for adware etc. with Iobit and Malwarebytes. those and avast all came up clean.
I'm using FF 25.0.1 in W7 pro 64bit. The only thing that stops them is disabling Flash player, but Flash is needed for Youtube etc., games and some uploaders on hosting sites I use.
Most of these ads are for dubious software telling me my computer is slow (joke - it ranked 11th place world rank in one benchmark test), others have intrusive sound effects. All are unwanted. In Firefox, click Tools_Add-ons (or Ctrl+Shift+A)
Click Get Add-ons.
On the right side, click "See all".
In the search box, type "AdBlock"
Click the green arrow.
Choose the following extensions from the list:
I personally use ALL THREE in Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, & 8.1 as well as OS X 10.6, 10.7, 10.8 & 10.9 -
I recently upgraded my Mac to maverick and now I receive pop ups I can not get rid of that ask me for my "keychain password". What is a keychain and where can I find my password. I can not get past these pops ups to use my Mac
Please see the following website which should explain everything about iCloud keychain: www.support.apple.com/kb/HT5813
