My Network NOT showing up on Networks In Range scan!

Out of the blue - my husband's laptop wireless connection stopped working.  I tried to reconnect - it wouldn't.
I went to the scanned Networks in range to connect - and our router's signal is not there!
Previously our router had channels 1, 2 & 3 illuminated.  Now only 3 is illuminated.
HELP!

Well, it does not make much sense to enter your password on your neighbor's router. If you want to use your router you should only connect to your router.
Wire a computer to your router. Now open http://192.168.1.1/. For this your normal password should work. Then check the settings on the router. Check the main Setup tab and the Wireless and Wireless Security tab. Verify you still have your settings there.
For the wireless you should use a unique SSID/network name. Using the default "linksys" only creates confusion.
Do not disable the SSID broadcast. It won't improve security but only makes problems.
To secure the wireless network use WPA2 or WPA security with a good pre-shared key/passphrase. Use compatibility TKIP+AES (or similar).
If that is all O.K. check the computers. Windows has a list of preferred wireless networks to which it will automatically connect if any of those networks is in reach. If you have setup your router with a unique broadcast SSID and WPA/WPA2 security your computer should never automatically connect to any other network in your neighborhood. Check the list of preferred wireless networks in Windows and remove all networks except your own and any other wireless network to which you really have to connect. The list of preferred networks should only contain those networks which you really use.
If you do not use Windows for the configuration of your wireless card check the documentation of the software which you use to connect and configure wireless connections. Many laptop computers have other software for this purpose, e.g. IBM/Lenovo uses "Access Connections". This software will also have a list of preferred networks. Clean out this list to contain only the relevant networks.
After that your computers should connect correctly to your network and not to others anymore.
Regarding the LAN lights on the router. If the light is not lit up it usually means that there is either nothing connected on that port or that the card to which the port is connected to is disabled. Thus, if you have anything connected to port 2, 3 or 4 on the router make sure it is correctly connected and the ethernet card on the computers are enabled and active.

if that scare you too much then disable the internet modem / cable modem or the likes while you test

  • Firewire drives do not show up on network

    I have a G5 with 2 external drives, 1 firewire, 1 USB
I have a G4 with 2 external drives, both firewire.
    When these computers are networked,
The G5 sees the internal drives from the G4.
The G4 sees the internal drives from the G5, as well as the connected USB drive.
But neither computer sees the external firewire drives of the other computer.
I used to see these drives and made aliases for them, but they do not show up now.
I am using the admin accounts from each computer.
    G5 running 10.4.5
    G4 running 10.3.9
What is the cause of this problem? How can I mount the firewire drives on the networked computers?

I need to modify my question. I also have a G3 running 10.2.8
Yesterday I noticed that the Network icon in the G5 sidebar had an eject symbol next to it. That seems strange, upon reflection, as if something was not right.
I shut off all the machines for the evening.
Today, I restarted all the machines. Chose Finder->Go->Connect to Server->Browse
From each machine, I was able to see the external drives on the other machines, as well as the internal drives, over the network. I did not use nor install sharepoints. It just works (with an admin account).
However, on the G5, there is an external firewire Firelite drive. It is formatted as Fat 32.
It does not show up in the Browse window when I connect to the G5 from any computer. If I move it to the G4, it also does not show up when I connect to the G4 from any computer. So it does not seem to be related to the OS version.
In other words, it seems that since the Firelite is Dos formatted, I cannot see it on the network, even though it is a firewire drive.
So how can I fix this problem?

  • "Network" not showing up

I have an iPhone 4 and when I go into settings>general, the Network tab is not showing up. It also says that I have a VPN, but will not show an APN. I downloaded the iPhone Config Utility, but I'm not sure what I need to do once I have that open to fix this problem. Is it even fixable? I just started using StraightTalk today and want to get all this figured out so I can have access to data. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

There are two laptops already on the network and working.  On the new laptop, when I go to sign on to the network, there is one named "linksys" on it but not "ralphsnetwork".  When I put the wireless code in, I get "wireless code mismatch".  The other two laptops show "ralphsnetwork" as the network  they are connected to.   Should the name of my network show up on the new laptop?  Or is the one showing up named "linksys" actually my network. If it is, my wireless code will not work on it.

    Just a thought.
You did not mention 'Look for shared music'.
    It's in Preferences>Sharing in iTunes.

  • Home network not showing up in Finder

My desktop PC is connected to my router by ethernet; MacBook Pro wireless. Due to a printing issue, I need to copy files from MacBook to PC to print. Sometimes, despite being on, PC does not show up under "Shared" in Finder. Is there a way in Snow Leopard of "seeing" which computers are currently attached to the home network?
Note - this is an intermittent problem; probably 2/3 of the time, the PC shows up no problem!

Open Terminal and issue the following command
    ps aux | grep netbios[d]
if you get a line similar to this
    _netbios          45   0,0  0,0  2477156   2456   ??  SNs   9:14am   0:02.44 /usr/sbin/netbiosd
then the daemon is running, otherwise issue the following command to start netbiosd permanently
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.netbiosd.plist

  • Photosmart C310: WiFi connected, but not showing up in network via Mac or iPhone

I am using a HP Photosmart Premium C310. It is connected to WiFi, but does not show up on Mac or iPhone via Wifi:
    - iPhone Airprint does not find the printer (select printer)
    - Mac "add printer" does not find the printer
    - newest HP Setup Application (HP_Lion_Ink_SW_v12.13.14, Dec 2011) finds printer only as long as connected via USB, reconfigures WiFi settings, but  can not re-find the printer when USB cable is taken off
    - I can send "ping" to the printer using the IP address shown in touchscreen info panel so it is online in WiFi
    - I tried to reset factory settings for settings + network settings, no change...
Is that a defect or any idea how to fix the problem?
    Best regards, any help appreciated...

    Hi,
Per your description, i believe the issue may being caused by your router compatibility with Apple Bonjour, which require multicasting support in order to operate propertly.
In order to verify, try to temporary create an ad hoc connection between your iPhone and the printer and check for any change:
Step One : Restore the network defaults on the HP All-in-One
On the product control panel, touch the Setup icon ( ). The Setup menu displays.
    Touch Wireless .
Touch and then slide your finger down on the display to select Restore Network Defaults .
When asked 'Are you sure? ' touch Yes .
After the network defaults restore, touch Wireless Connection , and then touch On .
The message 'Wireless Radio is now on ' should briefly display on the control panel and the Wireless light ( ) on the HP product should start to blink. The HP product is now openly broadcasting the ad hoc wireless network.
Step Two: Create an ad hoc wireless network connection between the HP All-in-One and the Apple device
On your Apple device, tap the Settings icon ( ).
    Tap Wi-Fi .
Under Choose a network , find the name that starts with HPC310 , and then tap it. A checkmark should display to the left of the name.
Wait three minutes to make sure that the ad hoc connection is established and try printing from the iPhone by taping the Action icon ( ) and then tapping Print.
If you were able to print through the direct printer, it means the router more likely cause the problems..
Please clarify your router brand, model and the router firmware version if available.
    Regards,
    Shlomi

  • Device Connected But Not Showing Up In Network Map

    Network Magic Version:  5.5.9195.0
    Connection:  Cable
    Modem:  Linksys WRT54GS2
    Firmware:  1.0.02 build 007, Jan 21, 2010
    Problem Device:  Blu-ray, wireless

My blu-ray is connected to my network.  I know this because I have no issue streaming Netflix.  However, it is not showing up on my network map.
    How do I fix this?

Oh!  And here's another weird thing.  My nephew was visiting yesterday, helping me move furniture and he asked could he get on my wifi.  I opened the network lock and put the password in his phone myself and it never gave me a notification that he had connected.  Later, my dad came over and when his phone connected to my wifi, it let me know that he had connected.  Wonder what's different about these 3 devices (blu-ray, 2 iphones).  None were listed in the network map before I allowed them to connect yesterday.

  • Computer not showing up in Network Map

    Hi,
Running NM 5.5.9195.0-Pure0/Platform 11.2.9195.1 through a DLINK DIR 655 Cable (Comcast) Modem Hardware Version A3 and Firmware 1.21.  Connected wired to Dell Desktop Windows Vista 32bit. via Intel(R) 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection.  Home network consists of another Dell desktop (wired) and two identical Dell Laptops (Dell XPS M1530), Canon M6590 Network printer (wired) and a Hawking HWNREN1 300N range extender (wireless).  All computers have Norton Internet Security 2010.
The map in network magic shows all computers and devices with the exception of one laptop when it is powered off.  As I said above, the two Dell Laptops are identical.  When both laptops are powered up, they are displayed.  If both laptops are powered off, only one remains visible in the map (it shows a "dimmed" dotted connection line to the central modem in the map).
I can not figure out why the other laptop is not displayed in the map when it is powered off.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Drop Box folder in the Public folder not showing on the network

    Hi everyone,
I am running a MacBook Pro 2010 running OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion. We have an office and multiple mac computers connected to our network. For us to transfer files we use the Drop Box folder inside the Public folder (We do not use the dropbox website/service). We would use the finder and click on the computer on the sidebar, open the Drop Box folder and drag files in with no hassel. However my Drop Box folder is not showing up when other users are trying to access my computer via the network.
My file sharing is on and I have attached an image with the settings I am using. I have compared these settings to other macs in the office that have a working Drop Box folder and they match. Hope you guys can help me.

  • I need help troubleshooting computers not showing up on network

seriously, everything was fine until xmas eve. Now I can't see the computers on the network on a mac or a pc.
Now, when I go to Start/My Network places on a pc the share points do not show up.
Also when I go View Workgroup Computers - it returns an error. In the error it mentions permissions. I've propogated permission, restarted SMB services and restarted twice.
OSX 10.5.1, Xserve, standalone server, SMB services are running, one username and password for everyone with r/w permission, even guests access is turned on, ...
AT&T Netopia dsl modem (bridged mode), Linksys wireless router with ip's assigned to all computers, to a switch that routes to users and two more switches.
note - I can see a few macs on Mac OSX Tiger and Leopard but nothing on the pc's. I can, however, see a unix sever that's on the network by typing \\ServerName in an explore address bar. And at one time I could type in \\Xserve on both macs and pc's but no longer.
    Thanks,
    ctrent

Any relationship to what works and what doesn't?
    no
Could there be a bad cable or bad switch port?
I've thought about that - checked and rechecked
Do you know how to see if there are two momputers with the same ip connected to a network?
Tried swapping a working and a non-working box to see if it's the connection that's stuffed?
    no
    but I just did
I tested an imac using the same connection. It was able to browse the entire network.
I noticed that MacBookPro had tld-internal.com in the Search Domains entry box.
I entered TLDMacserver.com as the search domain and was able to browse the server share points and read and write. (hoorah!)
I think that this is where the problem is - Is there a domain that needs to be set up or is already setup? I don't know of a setting on pc's to Search Domains - is this just a mac thing?
Now, seeing the other computers is the issue. I can only browse 4 macs and the Xserver on a mac but nothing on the pc's.
Is there something in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings that I should know about?
My server name on the left panel in Server Admin is TLDMacserver-com.local.
Under Settings/Network the computer name is TLDMacserver-com
    Computer Name - TLDMacserver.com
    Local Hostname TELDMacserver-com
    Network Interfaces: Ethernet 1
    IPv4
    192.168.0.32
    DNS Name: TLDMacserver-com.local
Anything interesting in the SMB-related server log files on the Mac OS X Server box?I'm not really sure what to look for.
That's one of those cases where digging through the logs looks for oddities.
I would probably have as much luck digging for gold.
Also, probably related to my problem - my logmein.com remote conrol no longer works. I tried deleting the machine from my list and reinstalling Logmein on the server, but it won't install.
    It says:
    Istaller is damged
Installer is unable to open the package.
This is likely due to install framework's runner executable not having he proper ownersip &/or persmissions.
Definitely seems that something got stomped on. Mayhap the disk?
What's the state of your data archives?
for those machines that can browse it's working fine.
    Your backups current?
yes. A firewire drive that's swapped out. They both are backing up right.
Next step would be to boot the installer DVD and verify the disk and verify the disk protections.
    it's just a download file from LogMeIn.com
As soon as it downloads that error pops up and when I manually try to run the .pkg the error occurs.
Up until now I've been able to log in just fine from anywhere.

Same problem here. Although I'm using Leopard from a clean install. It says searching when i first click open the AP menu open, but then it just shows the network I'm on. Though once and awhile the other networks briefly show up too.....
