My Network of Macs keep broadcasting to udp port 8612 every few seconds

This problem was answered nicely by "Hunter3740" and Apple archieved it....It is still valid/needed for Mountain Lion!
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2464784?start=0&tstart=0
Here is how to stop your Mac from broadcasting to udp port 8612 every few seconds without using a Terminal WIndow:
Under Utilities (In Applicatiopn Folder) launch the Activity Monitor, then show "All Processes" and find the one named "CIJScannerRegister.app" and hit the Stop Sign (Quit Process).
Then follow this Machintosh HD--->Library-->Image Capture--->Support--->LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers---->then throw "CIJScannerRegister.app" in the trash and empty it.
Bingo...the broadcast stops.
Apple:  Can you fix this turd with a system update?

Is there a chance that someone has installed some kind of
software on the computer that is trying to "call home?"
The app known as Little Snitch can tell what may be in there
and if it is responsible for these odd network calls out.
How is the port security set up in the Mac? And why would
those ports need to be open unless there was a real purpose?
With my Macs, all of the ports in Firewall are closed to access
except for the Network Time Server to keep the clock correct.
{Some are used to share files between computers, & to chat; etc.}
Do you have more than two user accounts in the computer, and
if so, is your Admin account only used to update and maintain
the OS X & to install apps for other users? The levels of security
in Mac OS X can be controlled; and such odd port calls if or when
there is no need, are signs that something is not quite right.
Have you looked into the Console utility to see what is causing the
hang at those time intervals you know this has happened? There
are several different logs and reports in there; some won't apply.
Do the children who use the computer, have access to or know the
Admin account's password? A second user, from their account, can
install software and do other things, if that password is available.
I noticed you had a similar post last month that appeared to go without
a reply; now it is locked and can't be replied to anyway. So this issue
has been going on for some time. What may have happened in the past
year or so, to start this issue in that computer? Something, for certain.
Good luck & happy computing!

    Question:
When I sync with my iphone I get an error reporting message but the sync still works.  After trying to download 10.6.3 Mac OSX Snow Leopard, this message appears every few seconds as long as Entourage is open.  This continues until I quit Entourage.  How do I turn this message off? It interferes with any other work I am doing.   I appreciate any suggestions.

I only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck.

  • Broadcasts on UDP port 8612?

    Hello -
I'm the sole Mac user in an office that has over 100 computers, so I'm asking this based on a question I got from our network guy. I am nowhere near a network expert.
The network guy asked me if I had installed anything recently that might be causing a lot of "noise" on our network. He says it is coming from my IP address and "They are pridominately "broadcasts" to the entire network on UDP port 8612, which Google tells me has something to do with Cannon printers."
Does anyone know what this might be and how I can turn it off? As the sole Mac user I try to keep a low profile!
    Thanks in advance.

For starters, is there any Canon printers in the office, or Canon drivers installed on your computer?
I found some in the library/printers file and have deleted them. I don't connect to any Canon printers, but it's not clear to me why they would trigger the network traffic when the others didn't.
I'll ask our systems administrator if he sees the chatter with the Canon file deleted.

My computer is constantly reloading the internet pages every few seconds. Also goes to the color swirl to think often. What is wrong? Thank you.

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • ITunes window keeps poping up to front every few seconds

Hello, My iTunes (10.5.2.11) on Win 7 (x86) keeps popping up to the front every few seconds even though there's no message box or bullitin. This might have something to do with every time I start iTunes I get a warning that some of the registry keys are currupted for some iTunes CD drivers and that I should re-install iTunes. This however doesn't help because I've done a complete uninstall, removed all remaining iTunes registry keys, and deleted all related iTunes files and reinstalled the program. Even after all that, I still get the same error. It might have something to do with the fact that the internal CD drive (on my/this laptop) is not functional.

Update: One of the kernel updates fixed it. I don't know exactly which version fixed it.

  • OS/X unresponsive while broadcasting to UDP port 2223

At least once a week I have to power-cycle the iMac my kids use for their homework, because they cannot wait the few hours it takes to recover by itself.
During that time all we get from the iMac is the rainbow wheel of death,
and on the network I can see it is sending broadcasts to UDP port 2223 (rockwell-csp3). It also insists on sending NetBIOS name lookups - (despite nothing in the system preferences saying to use anything but DNS), installing a samba server on the network at least provides something to answer those lookups (but it shouldn't be necessary).
I'm guessing that the Microsoft Office (2008) installed on the machine is somehow responsible - but a computer that is catatonic for hours at a time is useless.
Anyone know of anything I can do to stop this, or something I can put on the network (other than a windows machine), that might make it happy?

My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me crazy as the screen keeps going blank and I have to constantly put in my pass code every few seconds. Can someone help me out please. The pass code lock is set at 10 minutes but it's happening every few seconds :(

I've run into the issue and it seems to be related to an app not fully supporting the iOS you're on, the reboot doesn't usually solve it.
I've solved it in the following manner(s):
    1) Backup the device to iCloud, then erase the iPad (Content and Network Settings).
    2) Setup the iPad and choose to restore from iTunes/iCloud Backup (wherever you backed it up)
    3) Perform any software updates
I have not tried simply performing the software updates (which may fix it, but if it doesn't you won't be able to perform the above steps).
    Enjoy.

  • Every few seconds, WiFi says: "Searching for Networks", alternating with WiFi: "ON"

WiFi seems to be scanning for networks every few seconds. In between, it is showing ON.
Other computers on the same home wireless network are fine. My home network appears
to be strongest, why does the Apple WiFi keep scanning? internet seems to be intermittent.
This started a couple days ago, no change in hardware for a long time.

    It's functioning as intended.
OS X is assuming that you clicked the Wi-Fi icon for a reason: to be given the option to connect to a different wireless network should you so choose.

  • I believe OS 10.10.2 is causing my mac to freeze every few seconds.

For the last two weeks or so, my MacBook Pro (2011) has been freezing every few seconds. I can barley type this now. When I pull up Activity Monitor, it shows my memory running at 3.0+ out of 4 GB's. I've tried everything I could think of. My Mac is more of a internet surfing comp so I didn't mind reinstalling OS. It worked great for about 30 minutes then everything started to freeze again. Im curious if anyone else is having this issue and if anyone's figured out how to fix it. I ran a diagnostic on my ram and thats not the issue. Im to the point of upgrading my ram but i think it's dumb reverting to that when the 4 GB has been plenty for me in the past.
    Thank You.

Whenever I'm using Firefox my browser pauses every few seconds and if I am typing something nothing comes out, or the color wheel comes out (I'm on a Mac), if I'm watching a video it pauses every few seconds... it's sort of maddening. I do have about 20 tabs open at a time, I don't know if that is what causes it. It doesn't seem to happen when I am in Safari.

I deleted my old email address and added a new one, after my iPhone died iCloud keeps popping up asking for the password of my old email address. I can't remember my password and the account is still gone, it pops up every few seconds. How can I fix this?

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

When watching my Apple TV (3rd gen) the picture jumps a few frames every few seconds, this happens when I rent a film or play back from my new Mac Pro, my Wifi is the Airport Express.

These may be different issues, but lets look at rentals first.
Poor motion can result from mismatched output. If your source is 24 or 30 fps you should set the output of the Apple TV to 60 Hz, for 25 fps content use 50 Hz.
Additionally motion software on the TV itself can cause the picture to jump, check your TV settings and turn off any motion settings in use,
