My Network Preferences obstinately refuses to change the remembered password to a network, even though it's wrong!

I am having trouble connecting to my school's wireless network. Initially I couldn't connect at all, but someone helped me by going into the Network Preferences and changing the password stored there (it was trying to use an earlier one that was used for the schools old network). That worked fine until I changed my password from the random numbers the school gave me to something I could remember.
Now, no matter what I do, I cannot get it to use the new password! What I mean is that when I go to the Network in question, click the tiny pencil shaped button, type in the correct password, click Add, then Apply, I come back to check what the new saved password is and it's still the incorrect password. Instead of saying it was connected, it would show full bars but say Self-Assigned IP.
Despite this, the computer did have the correct password filled in elsewhere. In the 802.1X section of the Advanced Network Preferences there is a User Profile named after the Network that has the correct password in it. This has been true during periods where it was working, as well as during times when it wouldn't connect.
I've tried deleting the wireless network from my list of remembered networks and then re-adding it with the correct password. When I do this, it comes back with the incorrect password already filled in! Maddening.
I've tried unchecking the box that says "Remember all networks this computer has joined", this worked with limited success, allowing me to connect again, but then, half an hour later, it stopped working and won't even suffice as a temporary fix anymore. To the pit with this!
To get online and type this I went to Keychain Access, thinking that is how my computer was remembering the incorrect password and thus, repeatedly filling it in. However, deleting all mention of this Network there had no effect. It was only after deleting some authenticated certificates that I was allowed to reconnect. I haven't the faintest idea why this made it work, the Network Preferences is still refilling in the incorrect password no matter what I do, but for some reason it is working... as of now.
While I was typing this, I lost connection again... I returned to Keychain Access and did all the things mentioned above, now I am posting this before I am forced to do so again.
Thank you.

How do I change the name of my wireless network without screwing everything up?  Thanks.

OK, thanks for the updated information. Please change your profile when you can.
If you change the network name, keep in mind that any device that connects now will need to connect again to your "new" network.
    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit in the upper right corner of the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the screen
Edit/backspace out the current wireless network name and then type in the name that you want to use
A few hints....avoid using blank spaces, and also avoid using any special characters like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc. Keep the name short....no more than 20 characters, fewer would be better and simpler to manage.
Click Update at the lower right of the window and wait a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart with the new settings. You are all set now.

Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Is there a way to change the VNC password thru unix command in ARD2?

In a local network, I get access denied errors from macs that have the vnc password different than the Administrative login user password. I needed to change the Admistrator password which I did thru the Unix command in ARD2.
    Now.
Is there a way to change the VNC password thru unix command in ARD2?
    Example:
    remote computer setup
    Panther 10.3.9
    vnc password - gopher
user ID - testARD with admin rights
    user password - backdoor
    ARD2 Computer setup
    10.4.10
    login ID - testARD
    password - backdoor
I get the blue icon but get an 'access denied' error.
I change the password from backdoor to gopher.
I get the red with dash icon but, can get access to the computer.
What is going on? Is ARD2 using the VNC resource instead of ARDs resources?

A quick search of Google finds this <http://www.macgeekery.com/tips/cli/settingremote_desktops_vnc_password_interminal>. I have not tested this myself.

  • How do I change the admin password in SJSWS 7.0?

I've googled this, searched the forums, read the manual, but I haven't found anything that explained how to change the admin password for SJSWS 7.0. So, right now I'm stuck with "adminadmin" as the password, which I think is the default since I don't remember specifying that during install. Clearly I can't use this in production with the default admin password... sorry if this is a rtfm question, but I really didn't see anything in the manual about changing the admin password. Thanks!

You could use the following CLI command:-
    wadm> set-admin-prop --set-password
    More information about the command:-
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3283/set-admin-prop-1?a=view
You could also use Administration console-
    - Login to the Administration Console and click on the Nodes tab
    - In the Nodes page, click on the Administration Server link within the Nodes table
    - Go to "Administration Server Preferences" section in the General page and change the password

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

Hi, I have even the worst problem,
that seems probably to to be never asked on Internet. After quick learning how to reset this creapy device, I can't get by no means the enable password in default config for this box, having read everywhere from Cisco guide through community pages to Google pages.. NOWHERE.

  • Error while trying to change the user password on OSX Lion

    Hello,
I am trying to change the user password ( no admin user ) using the webinterface. I enabled the functionality in webservices on the server.
I can loginto the three line password changing form. After I enter the old and two times the new password, I get the information
"Your request could not be completed. The password server may be unavailable."
How can I fix this problem?  I also tried https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2485167?start=0&tstart=0.
    Thanks in advance for help.

I currently have this error on my 10.6.8 ML server when trying to change password.
In my situation, the message definitely comes from the password policies. As soon as I use a new password that respects minimum complexity (e.g. 8 characters min, 1 lowercase letter, 1 uppercase letter, 1 number), the password changes flawlessly.
It would be nice to change this horrible message to something more meaningful... If someone has any ideas on how to do this, thanks for sharing!
