My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet. I tried to repair connection, tried to reboot modem several times, I even updated my computer. Nothing. All it says is that it does not detect modem. Why?
Welcome to the support community group.
First, are you sure that your AirPort Extreme has been configured correctly and is properly connected to your modem?
Begin by telling us how you have things connected and if the Airport Extreme is replacing a previously owned router or is this an entirely new installation?
First be sure that your modem is working and properly connects you to the internet using an ethernet cable directly connected to your laptop. Once you're sure that's working, reset the AirPort to factory defaults by disconnecting it from power and pressing and holding in the small reset button on the back for 15 - 20 seconds while you reconnect it to power. Then turn everything off for 5 minutes. Connect the Airport to your modem with and ethernet cable to the Airport WAN port on the back (check the user guide to make sure you connect the cable to the correct port) then connect a second ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Then power up the modem first, wait 5 minutes and then power up the Airport, wait 5 minutes and finally power up your laptop.
Then run the airport configuration utility from your laptop. Since you're not using an Apple computer, be sure that all of your firewall, and virus blocking and checking software is disabled before you run the airport configuration utility. Once you run the utility, it should detect your AirPort and allow you to use the configuration wizard to set things up.
Check back if you're still having problems. -
HT1752 iMac flat panel 2003 shows airport but does not connect
Hi,iMac flat panel 2003 shows airport but does not connect
No problems.
Let's double-check your iMac's Internet Sharing configuration:
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > \[Ethernet port] iMac > (wireless) > MacBook
Enable Software Firewall (iMac)
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o Block all incoming connections (enabled)
Enable Internet Sharing (iMac)
System Preferences > Sharing
o Select "Internet Sharing" from the options in the left column
o Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
o To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
AirPort Options... (iMac)
o Network Name: <anything you want>
o Channel: Automatic
o Enable encryption <do NOT enable at this time>
o Click OK
o Select "Internet Sharing" again
o Click "Start" to start Internet Sharing
o Click Start
Please verify these settings, and try accessing the Internet from the MacBook again. For this exercise, I suggest co-locating the MacBook with the iMac. -
Wireless network monitor says I'm not connected to internet, but I am?
Hi,
I have a WRT54G v6 and a WUSB54GC. I can connect to the inter just fine and for the most part the linksys wireless network monitor says I'm connected to the access point and internet. The problem is occasionally it will says that I'm connected to the access point but the internet when I really am and I can browse the web just fine. I get the not connected to internet msg for a few minutes then it just goes back to connected. Any ideas?Hi...
I think here the issue may be that the utility and the internet connection are not getting synchronised. The operating system on your computer is it win XP? If it is win xp, u can use the windows wireless software to manage to your wireless network. In order to use the windows wireless zero configuration, right click on the linksys icon at the bottom right hand corner of the task bar, select the option that says "use windows wireless ....".
The linksys icon will be grayed and windows will be managing the wireless network. Connect to your wireless network and you should be able to go online. -
Networks seen by airport, but can not connect to internet
Hello,
This is for a powerbook G4 running 10.5.8 that previously connected to our time capsule without issues. Recently, it stopped connecting to the internet although our two macbooks, phones, etc. have no problem.
It can see our network and also an open network and will "connect" with full signal strength but will not connect ot the internet. When running diagnostics it will come up with 'network change detected' and then will go through turn off modem and router and will then continue in a loop with turning off modem or router and not let me past the "network settings (yellow tab in front of network settings)" portion of network diagnostics. I've tried setting up a network and this did not work. I have also tried connecting to the time capsule which was not recognized either. I like the powerbook for traveling and since the ethernet source was fried years ago, it is pretty much useless without the airport functioning.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.Once I had a very similar problem and took it to the Apple Store. I'm not entirely certain what they did, but I believe it was to remove some corrupted .plists. Maybe someone here would know which ones would be the relevant ones to look at.
In the meantime, you might consider one of these as a workaround:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP2802GU2/
It's not the most elegant solution, but I have a couple of these and they seem to be very reliable, and cheap enough at the sale price.
Good luck! -
Airport shows being connected but will not connect to internet
Airport will not connect to internet yet shows me as connected.
When and if I do get connected, I will loose the connection and unable to access the internet.
This has happened using several different wireless locations.
Please help as to what my settings should be or how to correct the problemWhat debugging steps have you taken?
Connecting to your wireless network and connecting to the Internet are two different parts of the connection process.
If you open your Network preferences panel does it show you have an IP address of the form 169.x.x.x? -
HT4528 My iphone 4s is connected to my wifi but will not connect to internet
My Iphone 4S is connected to my wifi but will not connect to the internet. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Try going to settings>general>reset>reset network settings. Once you've reset your network settings you will need to be able to plug in your wifi/router password to your wifi appliance. (password to wifi router)
Good luck. -
IPhone 5s: Intermittent wifi; wifi signal is full but phone not connected to internet
Hi all, I have a strange wifi connectivity problem.
At home:
iPhone 5s connects normally to wifi, but after several minutes of usage (particularly browsing the internet), wifi signal remains full but safari states that phone is not connected to internet. Other apps like whatsapp also don't work. When I disable wifi then enable it again on my phone, I can connect to the internet temporarily again, but after a few seconds it disappears again. If I leave it for a while, it automatically connects again, but intermittently and unpredictably. All in all, unreliably.
At home, MacBook Air works fine with no connectivity issues.
At other wifi locations, the same iphone 5s has no problems at all with wifi connectivity.
Also, I have already
- reset phone
- reset network settings on phone
- reset router
- unplugged and replugged modem and router to wall switch
- previous iPhone 4 on iOS 7 had no issues with home wifi
Thus, I am uncertain if this is a phone or wifi issue. My best guess would be that it is a compatibility issue between the iPhone 5s and my home wifi?
Any suggestions as to where I could start solving this problem would be very appreciated! Thank you:)If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPhone. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPhone on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPhone does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPhone is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

Green light on Airport Extreme but will not connect to internet
I have tried restarting computer and Airport Extreme but it will not connect to internet. Unit has been working great up until now. I have made no changes in system.
This Airport/time machine is 2009 version. The Cisco DPC 3010 is a cable modem, so you will need to let the modem completely reset before you connect it to the AirPort Extreme.
It may be necessary to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and reconfigure it, but we will try a shortcut first to see if that can be avoided.
Power off the entire network.....all devices....modem, AirPort, computers, mobile devices, etc in any order that you want.
Be sure to disconnect the power cable on the modem, either on the back of the device or pull the power cord from the wall AC jack
Leave everything powered off for at least 30 minutes. Longer is better, as it sometimes takes the equipment back at the ISP longer to completely reset and issue a new fresh IP address to the modem.
After the wait period, power up the modem first, and let it run for at least 5 minutes by itself. If your modem documentation states that the modem should be powered up for 15 minutes, then go with 15.
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a few minutes
Then power up other devices one at a time about a minute apart
When the entire network is back up, check the network.
It this does not work, you will have to start over again as above, except this time you will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme.
To do that, power off the AirPort Exterme for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Extreme.....and keep holding it in for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Extreme
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Power off the AirPort now, and start it back up in the proper sequence
If things still don't work, then you likely have a defective AirPort Extreme that will need to be replaced. -
Recently bought a Pro. At home, it connects to wifi and internet just fine. On the road, it connects to wifi sites, but willl NOT connect to the internet, while Other devices, iPad2 and iPhone connect and browse just fine.

PC shows network in wireless but will not connect
I have an open connection and my mac works fine but the pc will not connect...what exactly do I need to do in order to get the pc to work?
Hello Dan Miller...Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
How are you connecting your AirPort Express Base Station (AX)? That is are you connecting it as a "wireless client" to an existing wireless network or as a stand-alone Internet router? That is, if it's an Internet router, you would be using it for both Internet access and for streaming iTunes. -
Photosmart 5520 connect to wireless network but will not connect to internet
My Photosmart 5520 printer connects to my network just fine and prints from all my computers just fine. But when I attempt to print through ePrint or google print, nothing happens. When I hit the eprint bottom on the front of the printer, it tells me the printer is not connected to the internet.
Oh, you can check this thread about the same issue

IPad Mini connected to home network but still not connecting to internet.
Hi. I have a friend staying and she has an iPad mini. while all other Mac devises are connected to our home internet, her one will not. I have set the network details on her mini using the static ip option and get the blue tick beside our network name. However, we are still not connected to the wifi network. All our Mac devises are connected and her husband's iPad and iPhone are working fine. Help
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Network says I'm connected but will not connect to internet
My iMac (2007 w/OSX 10.6.8, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB) suddenly stopped connecting to the Internet even though it says "airport is connected & Ethernet is connected" I spent and hour + with tech support from Our ISP, took it to the local Athorized Mac seller I bought it from and it worked fine with their connection. also all other computers in our home work fine from my iPad to ROKU. is ther a way of removing previous network settings and then running the setup help from scratch? It just doesn't make sence, some times a RSS will open without any pictures but when I try to go to one the links I get the same old "You are not connected to the Internet and the Network Diagnostics... Button appears. Trying to go to any regular web page never works BTW I always get the previous mentioned message. thank you for reading and I hope someone can help me fix this what I think is a simple but out of my realm of ability to fix and I don't want to make it worse !
Paul ///Hi… I would suggest you to delete preferred wireless networks on your wireless laptop, and then try to reconnect to the wireless network. Also check what ip address you are getting, is it a valid ip address from the router. Try deleting cookies in internet explorer. Then check the connection. You cannot change anything on the router because other two computers are working fine.

My iPad can find a network but will not connect to internet ever since i did last software update
Ever since the last software update my iPad will not connect to the internet. I can see the networks and have great signal strength but it just won't connect. Other iPad users who have not done the update can sit next to me and connect with no issues. My iPad is only a month old! not good enough!
There are no changes to WiFi in the last two updates 4.3.4, and 4.3.5. These contained only fixes for a malicious PDF file handling problem, and a security certificate handling problem.
Try using Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings to see if that fixes your problems.
