    You have to slide to unlock to bring up the keyboard if a passcode is set. If you can't slide then try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

    One thing you can try is to reset (reboot) your iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
    If that does not help, your iPad may be defective.  If it is in warranty, show it to an Apple Store Genius.  If the Genius can not fix it, you may get a replacement iPad on the spot.
    If your warranty has expired, or there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  There may be one in your city.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

  • Purchased new Technicolor TC8715D gateway and now can't get internet signal

    The new combo modem/router came from Time Warner. The customer service rep who helped me set up put it in "bridge mode" (apparently usually reserved for people connecting an external router) and it wouldn't allow my other wifi devices to connect - smart TV, smartphone, streaming media players, etc. However the Microcell worked great! Once the agent took it out of bridge mode, everything but the Microcell worked. I've tried resetting both devices, talked w att customer service... nada. The blinking green internet light indicator persists (GPS/ethernet/power all solid green.) I'm reading stuff about making sure the proper ports are open, setting a secure static port for the Microcell, etc. I went to my IP webpage and started to look around but found it very confusing. Does anyone have a link to a simple troubleshoot?

    Unfortunately there's rarely an easy fix for router issues. In bridge mode, the router/modem was just passing data thru without any filtering, etc. and all of the "router configurations" that are required for the MicroCell to work were met. Once you  took the router out of bridge mode, certain defaults were set in place which prohibits the MicroCell from establishing a secure, 24x7 VPN to the AT&T Mobility Servers.
    What you need to do is insure that all of the router requirements that are listed in the setup instructions (and in my Tech Guide, link in my sig) are met. This is up to you to figure out or get help with from your provider. AT&T and us can't help you with individual router settings because there are just too many routers, firmware versions, and LANs out there for us to keep current on. Besides, no one wants to be responsible for messing with your LAN. And, there are just some routers that don't play nice with the MicroCell because they are configured to work specifically with a provider based on their needs and not necessarily the MicroCell.

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
    DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Was connected to 360 when 360 died.  Now Ipod is locked and I can't get it unlocked.

    Ipod was connected to 360 xbox when the xbox died.  It now says I have 22,000,000 minutes before I can unlock it.  I never had a lock code.  What can I do to fix this.

    Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
    At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
    If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

    I set up a Skype account for my wife the other day. We decided to purchase a subscription to the US. We had a lot of trouble getting our debit/credit cards to work because of the problem the Skype website has with "Verified by Visa". (There is a long thread in the Skype community about this problem.) Finally, we got the third card we tried to work. After that, we made a few test calls to our cell phones. I then submitted a caller-id request to have our calls display my wife's mobile number. Later that night, we got a notification that our subscription fee was being refunded. When we log on to my wife's account there is a message: "You are currently restricted from purchasing services or redeeming vouchers. Please contact Customer Support to review your account status." I contacted customer support. They said, "Your Skype account is was used to abuse Skype services and use the account fraudulently....Our records and data shows conclusive information of breach of policy. The account will not be activated." I have no idea what they mean, and couldn't get him to give me any details or contact information for someone who could help me resolve this. I don't know what is wrong or how to fix it. Can anyone help me with this?

    I think it is only the customer support that can possibly assist you from this point.  If they will still be unable to provide mode details or clarification, just hope that they can at least inform you of what your possible options are.

    There is an option in settings to erase the phone after 10 failed login attempts. If you had enabled this option then, yes, after 10 tries all of your content (including pictures) would be erased. You can recover them from the most recent backup you made of the phone, either in iCloud or on your computer.

    Just what I said above!

    Try resetting the cable modem (usually unplugging for about 30 seconds).
    Try defining new DNS servers in your Network preferences.  I recommend OpenDNS (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220).
    Also in Network preferences, I am assuming you are using DHCP so set that in Configure IPv4.  In the Advanced settings, for TCP/IP, click Renew DHCP Lease.
    If none of this works Network preferences also has an Assist me... button at the bottom.  Click it, then click Diagnostics.  Or you could click Assistant to help with a complete setup.

  • Locked folder I can't get rid of.

    I was burning a data-DVD of some photos when I hit a snag navigating in Finder, and so I control-clicked on Finder and told it to relaunch. But by doing that, it interrupted the DVD burn. Now, I have a folder on my desktop that is called Untitled DVD that is locked, and I can't get rid of it. I can't unlock it either. When I try, Tiger tells me I don't have permission to do that. I tried to move it so it wouldn't be on my desktop, and instead, it just copied it to another folder. So now I have two of these stupid, useless folders.
    So, any ideas on how I can get rid of these folders? They're not taking up that much room, but they are annoying.

    Delete the locked folder with Terminal (in Applications > Utilities):
    1. Open Terminal window
    2. Type 'sudo rm -rf ' (Not the ' marks, just what is between them. Yes, that is a space on the end. _Do not press enter yet_.)
    3. Drag the offending folder into the terminal window. Its path should be entered after the text you have typed. Click in the Terminal window to switch back into Terminal (from Finder).
    4. Press enter/return.
    5. Type your admin password.
    6. Wait until the prompt appears again (may take some time).
    7. Quit Terminal.
    Follow the above instructions *carefully and exactly* (rm -rf is capable of deleting anything).

    If you have never synced your device with iTunes and you forgot your passcode, you'll follow these directions:
    If you see one of following alerts, you need to erase the device:
    "iTunes could not connect to the [device] because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the [device] before it can be used with iTunes."
    "You haven't chosen to have [device] trust this computer"
    If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
    Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
    Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
    While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
    iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

    The device is locked to Verizon wireless not a Russian cell provider.
    You can use Verizon here in the states. Get a Verizon Sim.
    In out of the country use, pop in that Sim and it should work. However Verizon does not unlock for use in the USA.
    And you must be a Verizon customer to get it unlocked to use in other countries. Apple claims it will work in other countries.
