It could either be that the backlight is out. In that case, you can still see the interface, but it is very faint. Shining a light on it from the side should let you see if this is the case.
The other option is that moisture has gotten in there and caused a problem. If you have gotten it wet in the past, that is likely what has caused the problem.

I've recently bought a 5th Gen iPod, my first iPod though I've been using iTunes on the PC for six months or so. As soon as I started listening to music on the iPod through the headphones, I found I got a terrible pain in my ears - heat combined with a sensation of immense pressure, and a pain which lasts for some time after I've stopped listening. When I tried the iPod in the car, using an iLuv FM transmitter, I had the same problem and had to stop listening after a little over an hour.
I have never had problems listening to music through earphones before, nor have I had problems listening to CDs or Minidisc in the car. I don't listen to music particularly loudly.
Has anyone else had similar problems, or can anyone help me? My only guess is that it either has to do with the compression used in encoding the sound from CD, or that it is the high-pitched sound made by the iPod's hard drive which is somehow disturbing my inner ear. I've had trouble with painful ears before, which seemed to result from working in a room with three PCs all day (when I quit that job, the problem seemed to go away).You should see a doctor, but also, consider using different earphones. The earphones that come with iPod are terrible - both in terms of acoustics and comfort. You can also give headphones a shot. I prefer headphones because they stay outside your ears and also work as earmuffs in winter .

I cannot connect to the internet after switching providers. I've changed the email address associated with the new account but am sure there is something else I need to change. Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app

• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use an Apple wall-mount charger. Do NOT use a computer's USB port. Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear). An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem. I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge. -

If you really have iOS 1.1.5 you have an 1G (original iPod touch). You need at least iOS 2 for the App Store. The last update for the 1G is 3.1.3 that you get here:

Call Apple Care. You are still under warranty. You also have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your iPod with no questions asked.
