My new airport extreme does not see the hard drive

I have a new airport extreme with a hard drive connected to the USB port but the airport can't see the disk. I verified the firmware and is 7.7.1
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1665
Disk was working good but after Mavericks, the problem start.
Any suggestion?

I had problems adding Airport expresses using Airport Utility. However I found it worked fine if I used the manual set-up option and not the Assist me option.
Reset the airport express then, in manual set-up, set the express to 'join an airport network' add the airport network password and see if that works

  • AirPort Extreme does not see printer, hard drive, AirPort Express!

I just got an AirPort Extreme (802.11n), to replace my AirPort Express. I have a Brother 665CW wireless all-in-one printer, which had worked perfectly but now I cannot find it. I have also hooked my USB hard drive into the Extreme. I can see the hard drive in the AirPort Utility, but I don't know how to find it from my iBook. I'd also like to put the Express in another room to use the AirTunes feature. Unfortunately, almost nothing is working!
Here is how it's set up:
    Den:
    AirPort Extreme - hardwired to:
    - DSL modem
    - hard drive (via USB)
    Brother 665CW (wireless)
    Living Room:
    AirPort Express
Advice would be appreciated. I'm usually able to troubleshoot my problems, but documentation on this Extreme is really bad! Thanks!

  • IBook G4 not seeing the Hard Drive

My iBook G4 does not see the hard drive. When the computer turns on I get the flashing smiley face in the folder. When I put the disk for the computer in then the computer starts up but cannot see the hard drive so I cannot get into anything. I even put the computer in safe mode to see if I could get it to work and I couldn't. I had a friend who works on computers look at it and he said I needed a new hard drive. So I changed out the hard drive and the computer worked fine for 3 days and then it did the same thing. I'm not sure if there's a problem with the logic board or really what is wrong with it. Please help

This seems to suggest that your HDD may not be the problem. Try the old HDD you removed by putting it in a firewire enclosure and connect it to the computer and see if you can boot the computer from it. I experienced a similar issue with a iBook G4 which is detailed in the thread Could it be the logic board?. Your issue may be different, but the thread may give you some ideas for troubleshooting.

  • Airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

A few things to check are:
Make sure that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32. The normal Windows format of NTFS will not work.
The USB port at the AirPort Exteme is under powered. You almost always need to use a powered USB hub with a drive at this port, even if the drive has its own power supply.

The beeps could be caused by something as simple as a loose internal wire or connection.  If it is under warranty (not sure how long that is, as WD drives range from 1 to 5 years depending on the model's series - I think "my passport" drives are 3 years) you could contact WD and ask them about it.
If it is out of warranty, you could also try opening the case and check the connections - the drive may be fine, and there have been posts on TomsHardware forums of people getting the beeps, opening up the case and the drive is fine, just some wire worked loose.

  • T60 hard drive replacement - Windows does not recognize the hard drive

Hello All, new to the Lenovo Community. I have a T60 as well as newer Lenovo Edge. The HD crashed on the T60 and it will no longer boot. I just purchased a WD 500GB without doing a lot of research. In trying to install Windows 7 (I had already upgraded the T60) it will not recognize the new drive - Windows does not see the drive at all. Is there a way to get the Lenovo to recognize the WD drive? Thank you in advance for any help.

Glad I was able to help.
Just be careful, the usual "if it doesn't fit, find a bigger hammer" doesn't apply to this model laptop.
Also, there is a part available to adjust the frustration level, I don't happen to have the FRU number available, but I do have a photo and I'm sure you can find a local shop to provide it. Any experienced vendor should be able to match up a similar item from this photo.
It comes in many varieties, this model has a handy extention to aid in installation so you can easily do it with one hand. Others may require two hands to safely install. Use care when installing, one slip can destroy your laptop. Acute abuse can lead to severe embarassing situations and cronic abuse can have impact on your health, so use wisely and always get a spare to share with a friend. They tend ot come conviently packaged in quantity of 6, so you can invite a few friends over.

  • Connected to Airport WiFi Net but Airport Utility does not "see" the AE(n)

Have both the Airport Extreme (g) and (n). Have no problems with the AE(g) which I am using now, but the AE(n) somehow does not appear in the "Airport Utility".
I see the new AE(n) in the Airport Finder selection tool and I connect to the AE(n) network WiFi. The connection is successful and I get all of the vertical black semi-circles showing connection. Then I open Airport Utility and attempt to scan to see the AE(n) and it does not appear.
I've tried to hard reset the AE(n) and configure using Ethernet. The AE(n), appears in Airport Utility when attached by Ethernet. Once configured. I disconnet the Ethernet cable and connect to the new WiFi network but the Amber light flashes, the AE(n) does not connect successfully to the DSL modem and my iMac (Core Duo) Airport Utility program fails to "see" the new base station. I am going nuts. Pls help.
I did read through other problems and the troubleshooting section and did not come accross this same problem.

Spent 75 minutes on the phone with Apple support. At the end of the day learned a few things.
    1) Hold down control key to get additonal wireless config options including one which allows 802.11b/g only
    2) Using "Other" as a network option in the Internet Connect application solves the problem that only "WPA" password is allowed while I have configured my AE to WEP. You need to type in the AE network name but you are allowed to choose the correct password schema
    3) Using "Network Utility" and pinging 10.0.1.1 found out that I had 90% packet loss and that my new AE(n) is most likely defective and in need of replacement...
After all that am back to using my AE(g).

  • IBook G4 Airport Extreme does not see any SSID

    Hi,
My iBook 1,2 Ghz has been working great for several years now.
I am working with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) for quite some time
and it never let me down. I connect to the internet using an Airport Express
    connected to a speedtouch router.
The Airport Express Card in my iBook always found 6 or 7 SSID's of other
Wireless Networks in my neighbourhood and it used to login automatically on
my Airport Express wireless wetwork station.
Last week it suddenly stopped working correctly.
After starting OS X on my laptop the little Airport icon in the upper bar faded out grey.
When I click it it says it can't find any networks.
I checked all my settings, downgraded my Airport Extensions
and even installed a spare (refurbished) Airport Extreme Card.
Even with another Airport Extreme Card it does not see any wireless networks.
My other macs, a unibody MacBook Pro and white MacBook work fine with the Airport Express.
What could be wrong? Am I overlooking something here? Can somebody help me out?
How can i get my Airport Express/iBook G4 connected to my wireless network again?

    Hi Elko,
    Thanks for the reply.
I re-installed the original Airport Extreme card into the slot again.
But now i pushed it harder than the first time. (just like you said)
I noticed the second click, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
Both Airport Cards (the original and the new) were installed correctly.
I also checked the antenna connection but that is seated o.k. too.
After re-installing the card, i booted into Mac OS X Tiger and checked the ASP.
It says a Airport Extreme Card is installed with firmware version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p.18)
and the langauge version is international/worldwide. So far, so good.
Nevertheless the airport card does still not find any wireless networks or SSID's after
scanning multiple times. (Location on automatic)
I am planning an upgrade to Leopard today. Maybe that's gonna help, since there were some Airport Extreme updates in Leopard. If that's not the solution, I will stay with your other suggestion and buy me a nice USB dongle.
Do you have any idea what type of dongles work best with Leopard? I have seen some different models, but a lot of dongles require third-party software to make it work and are not automatically recognized by OS X.

  • My time capsule does not see external hard drive

I just got a new time capsule and am hoping to use it as a wireless bridge and NAS.
I've got it set up as a bridge and that seems to be working correctly, but when I plug my external hard drive into the time capsule, I can't see that external drive show up anywhere.
Has anybody else run into this issue?
The hard drive is a WD Elements 3 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - WDBAAU0030HBK-NESN.

I can't see that external drive show up anywhere.
If the drive is formatted correctly and communicating with the Time Capsule, then it will be displayed when you open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule icon, click Edit, and then click the Disks tab at the top of the next window. Example:
Remember that since this drive is a "network" drive, it will not be displayed on the desktop until you manually mount the drive.

  • G3 does not see desktop hard drive.

Hello! Back in April 2006, I purchased a blue and white G3 from my employer. I installed some extra memory, wiped the hard drive clean and installed OS 10.3.x and Adobe CS. Everything worked beautifully.
I shut down the computer, unplugged it, wrapped it in plastic and stored it in a safe place until I moved to my new home. I recently took my G3 out of storage over the holidays and tried to set it up. When I turned it on, I got the “Happy Mac” symbol along with the blinking “question mark”. I was disappointed that all of the previous installations I had put in seemed to be missing.
I decided to re-initialize the hard disk (desktop) and re-install the OS 10.3.x and the other Adobe programs. The G3 has no problems starting up from the start up disk, but there is no desktop ( or hard drive) icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Only the start up disk icon is visible.
When I start to install the OS 10.3.x, I get stuck where it prompts me to select a volume to install the OS. There are no options. I cannot select my hard drive because it simply does not appear. The “options” button is “grayed” out.
I tried using the disk repair utilities and still I had no success in locating the hard drive.
There were 3 items which were showing up in the list, all of which had a “CD” icon. The first icon had a disk with a Japanese sounding name. I could not select it and I could not even verify or repair it. The second icon was also with a disk, with the name “Session 1”. Again, this could not be verified or repaired. The third icon was the start up disk icon.
It is as if my computer can’t see itself! I can’t install anything because there seems to be no desktop to install it into. It is quite frustrating, especially because I had taken the time to set it up last year and everything was working perfectly fine before my computer went into storage. My G3 seems to be “happy” even though it can’t start up without a start up disk. I am hoping that I don’t have a hard drive melt down. I would greatly appreciate some help on this! Thank you!

    Hi Limnos, Grant and Eustace,
Till now, I had my G3 on "sleep" with my start up disk in the CD drive. I followed Limnos' instructions and opened up the side again. I made sure I was grounded and I tapped the hard drive. There was no noise or whirring. I placed my fingers on it, and there were no vibrations. The Blue Moo was really blue now. I thought for sure the drive was dead. With a heavy heart, I began to close the computer up. As I clicked the side closed, all of a sudden, I heard the familiar "whir" of a hard drive. I dared not to get too excited. I quickly ejected the start up disk, and lo... the G3 started up on its own!!!!! I had my hard drive icon, my programs, everything was there!
I had no problems re-installing the OS 10.3.x, I had no problems upgrading my Adobe CS programs.
My hard drive was there, exactly where it was supposed to be.
I don't know what exactly what brought it back from the dead. It may have been a combination of all your good advice put together and a bit of luck. In any case, I am up and running and I am truly thankful to all of you for your help. I also learned quite a bit from this experience from you guys, and that in itself, was very valuable to me!
I can't believe how last week, I was thinking I may need to get rid of my G3. But I stuck to it, and with your help, I now have a fully functioning machine!
Buckets of thanks to you again!
The Blue Moo (a very happy Moo indeed!)

  • Clean install Windows 7 does not see my hard drive

I just bought a new h8-1234 and I want to get everything off of the hard drive.  Sorry, I just like to have what I want on my hard drive, not a buch of junk that I will never use.
So, I pop in my trusty Windows & 64 bit disk, the install proceeds and stops...It's tell me to install the drivers for my hard drive and I can see that the hard drive list is empty..
I tried to find the drivers for my modle of computer, but HD drivers are not listed.  Is there a generic sata driver I could try on use?

    Hi:
You can try the ones I have attached, but I always thought that Windows 7 and Vista had all of the SATA drivers already installed.  I've never come across a situation where W7 or Vista asked for Hard drive drivers.
They are the latest ones obtainable from AMD's site.
I see that your PC has a a new AMD 9xx chipset, and that isn't even listed on AMD's site for support.

  • AirPort Extreme Does Not See USB Drive

I've had no luck getting my AirPort Extreme (802.11n) to see a USB hard drive. Using a WD MyBook, there's simply no response from the AirPort. Is there some trick to getting the AirPort to see the drive? Clearly this product isn't working as described! There's no mention in any of the marketing materials of needing to do anything but plug in the drive to the USB port.

This whole 'mount USB drive' feature appears to be VERY problematic. I cannot get the drive attached to my Airport Extreme to be visible to the iBook which runs its net connection thru the AE unit.
Has anyone submitted a bug to developer.apple.com?
If you have not - it is possible to acquire a free developer's account - just fill out the forms - and then you can add your voice to the chorus of bugs posted - which is WAY more likely to get attention by Apple engineers than just posting on this forum.
If anyone has any news about how to systematically solve this problem, please let me know.
    Thanks!

  • AirPort Extreme does not see HP Printer Officejet Pro L7555

I have tried to research how configure AirPort Extreme with my HP Officejet Pro L7555 by USB or ethernet cable.  After following instuctions, printer is not shown.  HP site that Apple links me to says it works by usb.  Apple is ambiguous as to if it must be airprint capable.  Thought maybe I need to set it up in the address category.  Can I get a definitive answer on the compatibility of this?  The latest drivers etc.. have been installed.  Any help much appreciated.

The HP Officejet Pro L7555 have three interface options:
    USB
    Ethernet
Bluetooth via an optional Bluetooth wireless adapter.
The USB port on the AirPort Extreme supports ONLY basic printer functions of a multifunction printer like your L7555. That means, you will not be able to access the printer's fax, scan, or copying function connected to this port. To gain access to all of the printer's functions you would need to have to connect it by Ethernet.
Once connected by Ethernet, the printer, not the AirPort Extreme, provides the print server function. Regardless, be sure to use the very latest print drivers for your Mac or PC.
HP provides a support article specifically for this printer when used with Mac here.

  • Frustrated - Installer does not see all hard drives

Ok. I'm a pretty basic user and here is my situation. I have a G5 with two internal drives. On one drive "A" I have OS X 10.3.9 installed (using that now) on the other internal drive (B) I have 10.4.7. All was working fine using drive "B" as my start up until I used Tech Tool this morning to check/repair volumes on "B". After all the repairs made I tried reboot to OS-X 10.4.7. The choice was there in System Preferences.
No luck, I now only get the black death screen telling me to reboot. Rebooting does nothing except bringing the must shut down and reboot screen. I tried to use my 10.4 Tiger installation disk to reinstall 10.4 on the "B" drive but the Apple installation program doesn't "see" the drive and so doesn't offer it as an option to install to. The program only sees the "A" drive.
I tired to install 10.4 on my "A" drive as an upgrade- I get an "errors" almost immediately after it starts and cannot install the up-grade.
I tried disk utility (from A drive trying to repair B drive)- it cannot "repair" disc B. I can see and use my B harddrive when in 10.3.9 - all programs and files are there and useable - but I can't boot from it nor is it recognized by the Tiger Installation disc. I seem stuck in 10.3.9.
I have a brand new external firewire drive not hooked up - I'm tempted to drag all files from "A" and copy it to the new drive and then reformat the "A" drive and try a clean install on "A" with 10.4. But I'm a bit nervous - if it doesn't work then I'll have no functioning operating system.
Sorry. I'm going a little crazy. Any ideas? I'm frustrated and plan to trash Tech Tool if I ever get back to 10.4.7.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It looks like both your drives have serious problem (that's why Disk Utility says it can't repair and you can't update the system in drive "A"). The fact that you can boot into 10.3.9 doesn't mean that the problems don't exist. In your case I would trust either drive and would do a backup of all the data, reformat the drives and then reinstall everything since the tols you have can't solve the problems.

  • At the urging of an Apple Store employee, I upgraded to OS Lion X.  However, Excel does not recognize the hard drive and I cannot save any work.  I understand there is a small compatibility issue - any suggestions ?

I need some direction on fixing an issue with excel and lion x which has a compatibility issue - can't save my work to a hard drive.

If you made a backup before installing lion, now would be a good time to restore that backup.... Ok, well you can always boot into lion recovery menu.... shut down your mac, hold down the option key and restart your computer..... Select recovery from the disk startup menu and go to disk utility... select the OSX disk, you can try repairing your permissions and repairing the disk.... If you lucky enough, it will fix it.... If not, and you have a decent internet connection, click the reinstall LION OSX after exiting disk utility. Your mac will now REDOWNLOAD LION OSX and reinstall it.... did you happen to make a backup before?
Also, did your mac originally have Leopard? Just curious... Because LION is entirely 64bit now where as Snow leopard had support for 32 bit as well, but the problem may be that some of your older apps where 32 bit.... This is just a guess though I'm not sure.... Because I've had numerous problems and crashes with my CS 4 stuff and final cut pro 7 and aperature.... Not sure if it's totally related to the whole 64 bit thing, but the thing is that the crashes are only occuring on my 32 bit apps.... otherwise the computer runs great.... To remedy, I had previously made an OSX lion USB drive so that I could do a fresh install of LION. I backed up all my data and files, installed a new SSD and my Macbook is SCREAAAAAAMING fast.... Sorry about the gloating but I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of your problem....
