My new computer has iMovie 08

I just bought a brand new computer, had them do a merge with my older macbook, and now I have imovie 08 instead of the latest version. They want me to pay for an upgrade. ***?

I have already run a software update, a couple of times. If I wipe the drive, I will lose all of my photos/movies, since I have deleted them on my other computer. This is something apple really should have communicated to me before the merge. When I went to the store, they told me this has happened before! Crikey. I have decided that apple is no longer the happiest place on earth.

Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

New computer has been loaded with old Itunes library but a number of earlier purchases say they are not "authorized" on this computer even though the bulk of my library works-- this is only about 5% of the total but were all purchased 9/18/2008 or before?

Three words, Target Disk Mode. Use a firewire cable to connect two Macs and then hold down the T key when you boot the Mac you want to transfer files from, G4 Tower. It will appear as a hard drive on the desktop of your Macbook Pro. Then you can just drag and drop the whole folder.

HT1933 My new computer has been authorized, but I can't play any of my purchased songs in itunes. What do I do to play, I get an error message that original files cannot be found.

My new HP ENVY 23 TOUCHSMART PC has been authorized for itunes, but I can't play any of my purchased itunes songs. When I try to play a purchased song in my itunes library, I get an error message prompt stating that the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. When I check for available downloads it states that all downloads have been made. Ironically, all my movie purchases play fine, but the songs do not play. What do I have to do to play my purchased songs?

The 'unable to locate' message means that you don't have those music files on that computer, or that they are not where iTunes is expecting them to be. How did you get the entries for those tracks in your new computer's iTunes ?

You may also be able to re-download them from the store (checking for available downloads only checks for items that have not yet been downloaded, not for past purchases) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (re-downloading music isn't possible in all countries). You may need to delete them form your library first (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message), otherwise iTunes will assume that you still have them somewhere and won't let you re-download them.

My new computer has backed up Firefox bookmark files from my old computer on the new computer's desktop, but I can't open them ; also, how do I get this desktop file into firefox's bookmark list?

My old Vista computer died, but I had backup of my old Firefox .json bookmark files and installed this folder on my new window's 7 computer's desktop. But I can't seem to open these files (windows cant find a program to open them with, and I don't seem to have .json files in my file association list) or import them into the new computer's Firefox bookmarks list.

Ext. HD current library of tunes, new computer has incomplete list

I recently got a MacBook Pro. I stored all my actual song files on my ext. hard drive before I upgraded from a PB G4. However, my new MacBook Pro for some reason only seems to have song titles from 6 months ago. Here's why:
My PB G4's internal drive broke 2 weeks ago - and is now at DriveSavers. I hadn't backed up onto my Ext. HD in 6 months - regarding all applications, etc... However - in regards to iTunes... I'd just import new CD's onto the ext. HD directly, and then manually copy onto my iPod.
So, I don't understand why more tunes aren't showing up... do I have to do a consolidate or library thing?

Thanks I had already run Check disc and contacted Toshiba and it has correct driver. Definitely a problem with the actual system disc.
I have also completed website asking for my model to be added to compatible sites and just have to hope seeing as no direct contact available, must be only company in the world that gets away with that.
Managed to work around the E/: problem by adding it to Libraries and then cut and pasted the whole date files and photos ready for new disc.
Backup simply is corrupted so also the wizard to find new device- wont search or load and greyed out, so have arranged with manufacturer for a new disc - the one I should have bought at the time instead of using the upgrade.
With the Device & Printer device it says I have the keyboard 3000, a compliant mouse and and a HID keyboard device as well as M$ wireless transceiver and of course a 3.0 unknown device which is E Drive. So along with monitor and computer tower

The keyboard is wired via a USB and only the mouse is wireless via the transceiver. So what the HID keyboard device is is a mystery too. So problem there in that wizard too. Plus had to uninstall Mouse/Keyboard ?Centre which improved the performance of the
mouse as 1 setting not 2.

My Tungsten E2 is no longer compatible with my computer, because my new computer has Microsoft Vista (64-bit) - anyone else with the same complaint?

I can't believe that Palm doesn't come up with a fix or patch for the Tungsten E2 to be compatible with M/S Vista (64-bit), or a new Palm Pilot that will work with Vista. I use(d) my Palm all the time, and have found it terribly inconvenient that not I'm without the use of it, or at least the ability to back up or synchronize the Palm with my computer, in the off chance that my Palm crashed and I lost everything I have in it. Anyone feel the same?

New computer has a Soundblaster 24bit Live card and I am seriously disapointed? Anyo

I just bought a new Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. I replaced my old HP 520N but am disapointed with this sound card... I game alot like Counter Strike and listen to alot of music. I mostly use winamp and windows media player.. Well today when I got the new Dell I couldn't wait to hear this new sound card. On my HP I only used the onboard processor dri'ven sound, and by far that sounded awesome with my Altec Lansing satelites and sub.... But this Creative card sounds real low and muffled? I Can't figure out what could be wrong? I tried all the options and still I have to turn my speakers up to half to 3/4s and check the creative volume at more than half to listen at a decent level? My old pc Did this performance at like /4 the speaker volume and half the windows pc volume? Just seems to me that this card might be shot or something is wrong with my setup? I have the speakers plugged into the green output on the card. that is the only one I could get sound from. I can't seem to turn the onboard sound on for this computer to test it against the card?Can anyone offer me some insight or help? I know these are in fact low end as far as money goes but you would think it would be better than onboard sound and so far its way below that...

I tried messing with direct out and such but no avail.. It seems that when I play a normal audio cd it sounds AWESOME.. But when I play mp3s on my pc they sound lower almost as if they are not of quality at all? I even tried to convert them to wav files to see if that would work but nothing...
Again, sound effects and original cds sound incredible.. Guess I am done listening to mp3s on my pc

New computer-has Apple allergy

I have a HP computer (my last one!!!) and every since it was new I have had problems with compatabilty of Office Outlook and iTunes. According to Apple, Microsoft and HP, it is the other company's fault. No matter what order I loaded my computer. I can use Outlook if and only iTunes is off of my computer, otherwise it freezes up when used. over 10 hours on the phone (Cell records) with Both Hp and MS (India) and they both deny problems because thier programs work by them selves. only problem when I load the poisoned other programs. Any help out there? Best Buy stands behind their products for 14 days only. So I bought it for a Xmas gift and waited for 22 days to set up. no returns. Next bet is to senfd the computer to HP. Any help besides explosives?

Have you tried reinstalling Windows, while avoiding installation of as much of the so-called trial-ware as possible? If the stuff gets installed with no option to avoid it, uninstall as much as possible after installing Windows.
It might be related to QuickTime, since that gets installed with iTunes on Windows PCs. That does not help too much, since QuickTime is required to run iTunes. You might try installing QuickTime by itself to see if the problem still occurs, so you know the root cause.
Are you using the latest version of iTunes downloaded from Apple

So, you are saying iTunes works either way. Do you have to use Outlook, or can you use an alternative such as Thunderbird? Or use web-mail (a browser-based interface).

Found a solution on another thread....very easy and it worked:
go to c:\program files (86x), apple, apple product support and copy the file QTMovieWin to c:\program files (86x), itunes
