My new computer is Authorized but.....

Okay my new computer is authorized. I pluged in my ipod and my purchased music from my old computer shows up but I can not listen to it or click on it or anything. Why is this? Also if I have an ipod and so does my husband, we can share itunes right? Cuz we use the same computer. Could use the help thanks!!!

"my purchased music from my old computer shows up but I can not listen to it or click on it or anything"
Are we talking about the iPod or iTunes here? Are the songs "greyed out"?
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable/playable, then you need to change to manually managing your songs.
"Also if I have an ipod and so does my husband, we can share itunes right?"
Yes, several ways. Making playlists for each iPod and having the iPods set to "update selected playlists only" is one such way.

Copy the media from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • I downloaded iTunes to a new computer and authorized that computer but my music is grayed out and will not play, how do I get access to my music?

I installed iTunes to a new computer and authorized that computer but my music is grayed out.  How do I get access to my music?

Is there a way to change that?
You can easily set up the iPod to automatically sync to your current iTunes library (or just do a Restore), but that will replace the iPod's existing content with content from your current iTunes library (erasing the iPod).  If your old computer was "retired" gracefully and you were able to transfer its complete iTunes user data to your new computer, there is no problem because all of the songs on the iPod now are already in your current iTunes library.  However, if there are songs on the iPod that are not in your current iTunes library, those songs will be lost.  That may be a problem...
If you want to preserve what is on the iPod, you can try setting the iPod to Manually manage music and videos.  I believe you can do that from an iTunes library that is not the iPod's currently associated library.  Select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see its Summary settings screen.  Check the box for Manually manage music and videos.  (If iTunes puts up any warning about erasing or replacing the iPod's existing content, Revert the change and cancel out.)  Click Apply.  The iPod is no longer set to automatically sync.  But you can add new content manually to what is already on the iPod.  And the songs should not be grayed out.
However, you cannot use iTunes to transfer songs on the iPod to your current iTunes library (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  If there are songs on the iPod that are not in your computer's iTunes library, you should eventually "offload" those song files because your iPod can easily break, become corrupted, or get lost.  iTunes syncs content in one direction only (from computer to iPod), but there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like iPod "transfer," you should get some links, including a CNET article on the topic.
Once all of your songs are "consolidated" in your current iTunes library, you can set up the iPod for automatic syncing to that library.

  • I have purchased a new computer and authorized my iTunes with my Apple ID; however, my iPod Classic, which I have had for many years, will not sync hundreds of songs that I have purchased and says the device needs to be authorized.  Help!

I have purchased a new computer and authorized my iTunes with my Apple ID; however, my iPod Classic, which I have had for many years, will not sync hundreds of songs that I have purchased and says the device needs to be authorized.
I have searched high and low and there does not seem to be a way to authorize the iPod Classic.  What can I do to sync my purchases to my iPod?  I have tried reformatting/restoring it as suggested.  It continues to only allow me to sync non-icloud/itunes content.
    Help!

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • I bought a new computer, and iTunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what i do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything, and I want all that on my laptop..

I bought a new computer, and downloaded  iTunes, therefore  the new itunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what I do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything that my phone has on it, I just want it all moved to my laptop. Does that make sense? I could really use some help. I don't live with this desktop anymore so I need to be able to use my laptops itunes. Please help me. Thanks in advance!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I am trying to sync my music from my computer to my iphone 6 but my computer keeps bringing up an error box "computer not authorized" but it is authorized. Please help!

I am trying to sync my music from my computer to my iphone 6 but my computer keeps bringing up an error box "computer not authorized" but it is authorized. Please help!

I have a pc and am trying to get my music through my iTunes on my computer.  I didn't have any trouble syncing my iphone 5S but can't get it to sync with my 6. OS 8.1.3
I open iTunes on my pc, plug in my phone, then I click on the picture of a phone on the upper left hand corner of my music library. Then I get a box of options with sync at the lower right.  I have clicked "automatically sync when phone is plugged in" and have also tried to do it manually by checking specific songs and albums.  Every time I hit sync the box pops up that says, "The iPhone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPhone.  To authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes store choose Store>Authorize This Computer."
I took those steps and a box pops up that says "this computer is already authorized."
I have my recently purchased music on my phone that came through the cloud when I restored my phone. But I want my old music from CD's that I put on my iTunes library in my computer.  I had all of this music on my old phone.
Thank you so much for your time!  I'm obviously not very good at this!

  • After pc format a new computer is authorized

when i format my pc and then install itunes it again asks me to authorize the same computer again and a new computer is authorized every time i format my computer.why is it like this?.what should i do?

    1. Because the files on the computer itself which tell that it was previously authorized were erased.
    2. Use the Deauthorize Computer function before erasing it if possible. If it's not possible to do it before, it may work afterwards on the same machine even if it doesn't think it's authorized; if that doesn't work, use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article, and if needed, the link to contact the iTunes Store staff at the bottom of it.

With me it transferred everything but music and videos. Also it required me to enter my email passwords again (I have several accounts setup). Every time I went to the music tab, it said it couldn't find the file with the name of my 3gs phone name. So now after it installed every app it had stored in my itunes (many I deleted off the phone), I am trying to start fresh and see if I can just add movies and music manually and be glad contacts, email accounts (sans passwords), and the other settings did carry over.
Were any of those email accounts POP email accounts?? I don't think emails that are locally stored on the iphone are saved when you backup.

  • Ok, new computer. Authorized it. Can see files for everything in cloud.

OK, new computer. Authorized it. Can see all music in cloud, not on hard drive.  My old computer which had the original files down loaded, was able to be saved from hard drive. The tech that is helping, what should I tell him to do to get my files back on my new hard drive? They are on an external drive. Thank you for your help.

OIf they are on your external hard drive and you want them back on your local hard drive.
First check that the Copy files to iTunes medi folder is selected in Preferences, Advanced.
Alsoo under store turn off show ourchasaes in the cloud
    Turn off itunes match
You now have an empty library
Then File > Add to library and choose the parent folder of music on your external hard drive click Open and itunes will copy all that music into the right folder on your machine. How long it takes depends on how much music you have.
When finished turn on itunes Match if you are using it

  • I can't sync my new purchases, saying computer not authorized, but when I try to authorize it says incorrect passcode when I know is correct. Already unistalled and reinstalled. help?

I am having trouble syncing my ipod nano with my desktop.  I purchased new songs that show up on my desktop but cannot get them to sync to my nano.  The computer keeps giving me the message it is not authorized.  Then it asks for my passcode which it says is incorrect.  Which how can that happen when I can still go into Itunes and purchases songs with the same passcode?  The computer just keeps looping to "not authorized" and "incorrect passcode". But I was able to see my computer is 1 of 2 computers authorized but does not seem to be recognizing this. So,  I called apple support and they had me unistall and reinstall itunes but I am still having the same problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions how to get pass this?  Any help would be great thanks!!

  • TS4062 I purchased a new desktop, downloaded iTunes, & authorized the new computer in iTunes, but, I can't sync with the new computer because I get a message that says "sync will resume when Owner HP is on-line. That was the old computer.

I purchased a new desktop computer, downloaded iTunes, authorized the computer thru iTunes, but, unable to sync with iPad3. I get a message stating "sync will resume when OWNER HP in on-line. That was the old computer, which no longer has iTunes on it. What can I do?

You still have to make the new computer and the iTunes library the new syncing library. Did you transfer all of your content into iTunes yet or copy the iTunes library from the old PC to the new one?
If you no longer have the old computer and did not copy the iTunes library to the new one, read this user tip.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
If you did tranfer everything over, you probably have to set up WiFi syncing again in iTunes in order for the iPad WiFi settings to see your new computer.
