My New Editing Rig -- Any Last Minute Changes?

I'm a proud owner of Premiere CS4, looking to upgrade to CS5, but first I'd like to get a new rig that will run it the way it's supposed to.
The following is what I have picked out to build for me:

My main concerns are as follows:
1. Should I opt for the (2) 500 GB drives in a RAID 0 for my boot drive, or stick with the velociraptor?
2. Will 12gb be enough to effectively edit big projects in Premiere? (I'm not too concerned about After Effects)
3. I don't see myself going above 16gb of ram any time soon... do I need to splurge on Windows 7 Professional?
4. Are the two extra 1 TB WD Caviars the right extra drives to get?

Buying A Mac Pro, any last minute advice?
Hi all!
Looking for last minute tips! I'm on a budget so want to get a basic model that I can add to as my needs increase. I'll be cutting short form work initially & will need to work SD uncompressed from digibeta (2:1 would be fine). Ideally I'd like the facility to expand into HD at some point. Well I signed up tot ake the Test tomorrow. Just thought I would drop a line in here and see if anyone has any last minute advice for me to take the test. Any other things I should look at? Any "Got Ya's" I should try to remeber.
I have ADM 940, adm 950 and adm 960 so I believe that is all I need to know to pass the exam.

Those steps don't work. I'm using the lastest version of itunes (11.0.1.12) on Windows. This article was last updated in 2009 and lists itunes 7.7. Anyone have any ideas, or is there a new article that accounts for the changes to itunes?

I'm trying to create a new movie. It tells me to name my movie, and the only event choice in the drop down menu is the last movie I made. IMovie Library is greyed out. I'm lost and I'm just starting. Not sure I like the new version. Any help out there?

Thunderbird puts a new message at the end of the thread.
Is there any way of changing this preference so that new messages are displayed at the top of the thread.
This is is more logical. You need to see new message in thread directly, rather than scanning to end of thread to see what is there.No it is not possible. The newest message is attached to the message it is in reply to.

How are you trying to update? Have you tried connecting your iPad to your computer running iTunes and update that ways? Please tell us what you have tried, what happened, and what if any, error messages you received.

The password for wireless network was changed. Airport keeps trying to sign in automatically with old password and won't let me put in new password. Any ideas?
You really should change both the wireless network name and password to avoid potential conflicts with the old and new settings.
Suggest you give that a try. -

RayYes, you don't need to create a new a new action mechanism etc.
One way to change the back button text on a the navbar of a view is to create a new UIBarButtonItem (with nil tagget and nil action )
Then set self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem of the parent view controller to the new button
Note that you're setting the backbarButtonItem of the parent view controller (and not the view controller on which this bar button will be displayed). This automatically plugs in the default target, action etc. So you don't need to implement it -
Runninig 10.6.8 on new iMac. The last two weeks I keep loosing internet and have to turn airport off and on to restore service. This happens every time it goes into sleep mode. It is not the router as my two laptops do not have this problem. I read that in 2008 MMP's had a similar issues .Any thoughts?
Go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files from the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference. -

You have 14 days to return it even if you used it. Today is day 14. Return it today. There are so many Apple stores in NYC, you must be able to get to one.
Then, if you google pre-ordering an ipad Air and picking up in store, it seems likely to happen. I know you want the new mini, and rumor also has it that there might be ipad minis available tomorrow although the original story was that they would be availble later in November.
Back up your mini to a computer. Then reset to factory condition and return it with cable. If you still have the box, use it. Make sure you return it today.
You just must get there today. Check store hours. The Fifth Avenue store is usually open 24/7, but if I remember right, they close the night before the product launch to set it all up. (Actually, I think it's for the hype and the two weeks some wait in line for them.)

I've had to open itunes on a new computer as my last one died and i didn't have backup. but i've noticed many of my purchased songs have not come back to my itunes to download, which means i have to buy them again. Got a last minute gig tomorrow morning, shooting on a Panasonic HVX...
Got a last minute gig tomorrow morning, shooting on a Panasonic HVX which I've only shot on a few times. This is a 4 page script, comedy with exaggerated colors (pimps wearing pink for example i guess).
I've only used the HVX a few times, and from my Sony FX-1 I was taught to almost only shoot at 60 fps (tutorial DVD on the FX1 and Z1U). Recently on a shoot with 2 HVXs, the director set them at (I could be wrong) 2000 FPS (or something way above 60), and his footage looked great. We did talking head interviews and sports/boxing. Tomorrow this skit should be a 'face off' situation and a small action scene. And I have no HVX genius looking over my shoulder telling me what to do. Either way I'm sure I'll survive this shoot and I'm not expecting expert forum tutorials last minute... I'm just looking for last minute advice if it's there. Here are a few questions.
Is there a quick rule of thumb for framerate with this camera? Or a link to a article? What is safe? What is cool?
I'm shooting outdoors from morning til evening, should I be manually White Balancing all day long? (I have warm cards, do you like those?)
I'm a last minute DP, I have no clue what they have on set. We could have few cards and long transfers, or many cards. What HD format will take up the least amount of space on a card that is still worth using... and what is the best format this thing can shoot incase we have the time and space to utilize?
Lastly, the last time I used this camera on my own I ended up tracking what seemed like 4 separate audio channels. Is this necessary? Can this be changed to just 2? I assume that will save a little HD space and be less to deal with in post.
Anything else? You tell me.

-MontyAs jim said, because of the short duration these record in, and the need to constantly be swapping, dumping them to P2 store or hard drive, then getting them back...it isn't condusive to a reality situation where you need ot follow the people, get the moments as they occur. The ability to record one full hour at a time is what is needed. The need to be "invisible" is needed...and it won't happen with a tech constantly running back and forth to the camera swapping out cards.
Plus you will have to store the MFX originals onto hard drives, then CONVERT them to Quicktime. You will have dozens of hard drives with just the MXF, then need more for the converted files.
Currently there is no way when you import the footage to tell what came from what camera. It is stored in the meta data, but that information isn't transferred when the footage in converted to Quicktime. The only way you can know is if the Tech lables the folders that he stores them on as A, B, C...but then you need to go back to the original folders and look for your clip to find out what camera it is. Unlike with tape where you instanly label it B002, or D013 or whathaveyou. And when you log and capture, that is something that you have at your disposal...so when a producer comes in and says "a great moment happened at 4:00 yesterday on the D camera. Lets look at it." With the tape method, you can do that easily. With the P2 method...that is a difficult task. One of the big drawbacks to the format...and something VITAL to reality TV.
Any time the camera is stopped, a new clip is made. So instead of being able to scrub thru a 15 minute chunk, you have to look at a dozen clips to find what you want.
If they want DVCPRO HD, they are going to have to hire four Varicams. If you are in LA and need to know where, I know a few places.

Facebook comments in Aperture 3?
I recall, i think back when i used iPhoto, that i could view comments that Facebook users made on pictures I posted from iPhoto to Facebook. Aperture doesn't seem to have this functionality. Is it hiding in there somewhere? Cheers, Jim
