My new HDD for Macbook pro 13" unibody is not recognized and I am using a new SATA cable
Hey everyone,
I have a particular problem that I cannot seem to find an answer to. My new 500gb internal drive for my Macbook Pro 13" unibody is not recognized. The old HDD broke on me so I bought a new one but my macbook pro would not recognize it. To troubleshoot that issue I purchased the SATA cable and replaced the old with the new. The new HDD still will not show up in disk utility.
Please let me know what you think I may have missed or should do.
Thank you
jc1388,
Bring it to an Apple store Genius bar (make an appointment, so you don,t have to wait around forever) they will diagnose it for free and tell you your options/pricing. They have more extensive testing tools, maybe your logic board is failing/failed.
best of luck

Why haven't they done a patch for those of us who have not updated and prefer to use iOS 6?
Totally agree with Andy. Apple needs to support its users whether or not they decide to update to iOS 7.
The reviews from i Pad 3 owners (like me) is that when they've updated to iOS 7 they've experienced latency and sluggishness. Why would I ruin a perfectly good iPad by updating to iOS 7?
Please let me know where I can find a patch for iOS 6.
Thanks! -
Keyboard covers for macbook pro 15" unibody
Is there a website i can find quality keyboard covers for my Macbook pro 15" unibody for the following programs:
Final Cut Pro
Adobe (photoshop, after effects)
I also was looking around for a clear hard case.. is this one a good one? anyone have suggestions?
http://www.amazon.com/TopCase-Clear-Crystal-Cover-Macbook/dp/B00418QLNWDepending on where you are it would be called google.xx and a third x when necessary. On another note, the covers on the apple.com site are quite good. I have the moshi one, it is really good. Except maybe that it gets a bit darker with time.

Macbook Pro 15in Unibody Wi-Fi Drop and Stay Off / Total System Freeze
Hi.
Up until about two weeks ago I had no issues with my mac. Then I installed Lion and about two days later the following occurred:
Macbook Pro 15in Unibody - drops wifi connection with numerous routers and different locations. I turn Airport Utility off and it won't ever turn back on. Restart is the only option... Alternatively the mac will sometimes just freeze and I can't move the cursor or type at all. Booted into BOOTCAMP partition and that freezes as well.
So, now I have bought a new Solid State Drive and done a fresh install of Snow Leopard. About 5 seconds in and it froze again - so I restarted - and about 20 mins later the Airport Utility did the same issue, dropped the wifi and wouldn't turn back on after I turn it off.
Reset PRAM, Airport Utility did the same again. So far, touch wood, only the one freeze since the new HHD and PRAM reset...
ANY IDEAS AT ALL WHAT THE HECK THIS CAN BE? It is SO annoying I have been scouting the net but can't see an obvious solution. I have however been shocked at sooooo many cases similar to this with the Macbooks...
Thanks guysYes it will work just fine. I sell and set them up quite a bit with both PC's and Macs.
All N routers at the moment are all based on draft N protocol, even Apple's own Airport routers. So the Belkin N+ will work at N speeds if you set it to N mode only. Ofcourse for broad compatibility with all sorts of WiFi devices it is best to leave it in mixed mode.
For some background, i have used all sorts of makes of routers from Compaq/TrendNet (favourite)/Microsoft/Netgear (current favourite)/Dlink...and so on over the years, NOT any issues.
Apple's Airport extreme base stations (which are still draft N) aren't any more compatible than a Netgear or Belkin N router. -
Recommended external HDD for MacBook Pro 2011 15"?
Hello,
I'm looking for external HDD for new MacBook Pro 2011 15". Is there any external HDD available with Thunderbolt port? Any recommended HDD using FireWire 800 port?
Since this is m first Mac, I'm not much familiar with Mac Accessories. Any further info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. That's a good drive, but not as great as those based on 3.5" hard drives. The nice thing about buying that drive is you can swap your hard drive in your MacBook Pro with the one in that case. 3.5" hard drives as desktop hard drives typically are faster, and are more suited to a desk environment. 2.5" hard drives are great for portable use. Be sure to get the DC in adapter for it to plug in the wall. There may be times you don't have enough power on the computer to keep it up.

Hi,
I'm getting a used MacBook Pro (15''), late 2008 or early 2009… the one before this last one, but w/o HDD due to some sensitive information’s on it, so I will need a new HDD and my questions are:
1) I've heard something 7200 disks, that they can cause some vibrations? It is better than to look after 5400?
2) Is there any limitation on »volume«… 250, 320, 500…GB?
3) What should I look after; I mean… where are critical points or limitations?
Many thanks in advance for your answers.
Regards,
MatejFaganel,
1. I haven't heard of any vibration issues with 7200 RPM drives, you can save a little money with 5400 RPM drives and if you aren't doing a lot of disk intensive work they're great.
2. No limit on size, just make sure you are buying a 2.5" drive. I would recommend visiting OWC's site for a good selection, they specialize in Mac's so you can contact them with questions. Their site is: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
3. Installing replacement drives in MBP's is very simple and no limitations.

Silent SATA for MacBook Pro 13" Unibody
Hi,
i have a MBP 13" with an Intel i5 CPU. I recognized that the HDD is much louder than in my MBP 13" 2010 i had before. The HDD Aplle delivered was a Hitachi HTS545032B9A302 with 320GB. Does someone else have the problem with an loud HDD?
Some with an alternative Option? I tried a Toshiba MK3265GSX but it is as loud as the Hitachi. I'm looking for a silent drive, as in the 2010-Model, which I don't hear.
I read about the Hitachi Travelstar 5kXXX, has somone experiences with this HDD? Does it have Idel-Clicks like the HTS545032B9A302?
Sorry for my bad english.i have the same model of macbook pro 13" and suffer from the loudness of the system in general. harddisc is much louder than MID2010 model. i had the macbook exchanged now two times - and it got worse. first was seagate - it was just like a loud fan noise. then the next hitachi and it got the clicks on top.
also the very loud fan noise as soon as the cpu hits 25% ... the system ghoes up to 6400rpm and is as loud as a jetplane.
im really angry, that apple made this release so bad. also the buildquality is much worse than the last model. the lid is not closing perfectly. the first macbook ive got was so bend, that i had to put 8 businesscards under one end to make it stable....
im really dissapointed from this release - and if i could i would return it and get back to my really perfect MID2010 ... sadly i sold it allready... -
Looking for silent HDD for Macbook Pro 208 Penryn
Hi,
i'm looking for a really silent HDD for my MB Pro. The HDD in my stock base MB Pro is a FUJITSU MHY2200BH. It makes a permanent "fan-like" background noise. Can someone recommend a silent 200-250GB HDD? (doesn't matter whether 5400rpm or 7200rpm).These models are to be considered (Samsung, Western Digital and Toshiba)

Macbook pro mid 2012 is not recognizing I tb internal HDD
I recently purchased a mid-2012 15'' macbook pro, 2.3 ghz, 500 gb HDD, 4 gb RAM. I took it into a service last weekend to have it upgraded to 8 gb RAM, 250 GB SSD Samsung, and a 1 TB HDD HITACHI 5400 rpm. Everything was fine until yesterday when suddenly the computer stopped recognizing the I tb HDD. You can see it in disk utility but the disk drive is just shaded gray. This morning I noticed that when I start the computer with only the battery it doesnt recongize the HDDD but when the charger is plugged in and start the computer the disk is recongized but a window pops up saying that I can access the files that are on the disk but no changes can be made and nothing can be saved onto the disk. It also says the disk needs to be reformatted as soon as possible. Could this be the SATA cable problem? Or a power shortage? Or something with the motherboard?
KazTav wrote:
Apple could have disabled what option?
Replacing the Superdrive with a hard drive, that's not a factory configuration.
That it doesn't work on battery and only on power is a obvious sign it's drawing too much current and the Mac will tend to disable things that are. -
My Macbook Pro's navigation is not smooth and screen shakes after after i open folders
I just bought my macbook pro 15" and i am experiencing some problems
For example,
i put safari or any application to full screen. So whenever i move my curser to the top of the screen to i can activate the bar (File - Edit - View - .. etc) It doesn't show and go down smoothly
Whenever I navigate to the right and left with my three fingers, its never smooth ... It keeps breaking and become slow
When I scroll to open my notification center its not smooth
Sometimes the screen shakes when i open an application or do certain things
I guess its a software problem. Please help me find a solution because its getting really frustrating, especially that i just bought it
Thank you a lotYour warranty includes 90 days of phone support. Call AppleCare.

MacBook Pro retina 2013 do not start and no light on the magsafe
Hello
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 2013 13' core i5 2.5 8gb ram
My mac was open, connect to the sector with full power. I left it the time to lunch and when i came back maybe 2 hours after my mac was off, and no light on the magsafe.
Impossible to start it.
I tried the key sequence, nothing worked.
I used the magsafe of a friend who have the same model, i had i green light for 10s before it turn slowly off. and nothing worked too.
One of my neighbor on the same building, had the same problem at the same time, computer open (not a mac) and it turn off impossible to start it, he had to disconnect/reconnect the battery to solve the problem.
May it be a power surge?
Did i need to open it and disconnect the battery on the motherboard?
Thank you for your help.A Few things to try if you haven't already:
1. Try unplugging the charger from both the wall and from your MacBook Pro. Now, make sure the powerpoint the MacBook was connected to works by plugging it in any electrical appliance you have. After unplugging the test electrical appliance and verifying that everything is OK with the electrical source, wait a minute or two and just plug the charger back into your MacBook and the powerpoint.
2. A possible problem could be a MagSafe port not working correctly. Look for any kind of debris inside the port that might prevent it from connecting the power adapter correctly to your MacBook. On the adapter, take a quick look at the DC connector for any type of debris and carefully check if any of the pins are missing, are bent, or stuck down.
3. Try a quick restart. Just press CMD CTRL ALT EJECT For about 5 seconds.
4. Try CMD, CTRL and POWER for about 5 seconds.
5. If none of this works, my last suggestion is removing the battery connecters and power supplies ect and holding the power button for a few seconds and reconnecting everything. -
Why isn't my macbook pro 10.6.7 not recognizing my network automatically?
My macbook pro 10.6.7 is not recognizing my home network automatically and instead sings me on to another network when I open my mac. How can I correct this? it wasn't doing this before.
thank you.Matrix
In system prefs you can go to network, you will see airport listed, go to the advanced setting and make sure remember networks you have joined is checked. You can also remove networks you do not want your Mac to join. You can also check to automatically find networks. As well, you can reconfigure your network by choosing the assist me option.

Upgrading internal HDD on Macbook Pro 13(Unibody)-Mid 2009
Hi All,
I have a 160GB internal hdd on my MBP 13 which i am finding to be pretty low on space. So I am planning to upgrade the internal HDD. I did a lot of reading on the web and looks like there are 3 contenders:
1. WD scorpio blue 500/640/750 GB, 5400rpm
2. Seagate Momentus 500/640 GB, 5400rpm
3. WD scorpio black -- 500GB, 7200rpm
My space requirements are not too high. Even 500 would suffice, but since the 640 and 750 give a better bang for the buck(GB/$), i am still contemplating.
Would 640/750 be an overkill resulting in slow performance, reduced battery life and noise ? If so which one would be the best choice considering performance is more important for me once we cross the 500GB limit.
My parameters for performance are:
- Speed should not reduce compared to my currently installed HDD(Hitachi 160GB).
- Noise should be negligible, as it is now on my MBP.
- Battery life should not reduce.
Can any one suggest which one I should go for? My budget is $100.Hi,
Not really a suggestion as such, but I have just installed a WD Scorpio Blue 500gb HDD myself. Unfortunately I've been having some issues with it and started a topic on this site to find an answer:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2518783&tstart=0
I thought you might be interested as it could affect your decision.

Hi, I had a MB 5,5 inter core 2 duo, 2.26 Ghz and 8Gb of RAM DDR3. I want to upgrade the original 160gb HDD, but not pretty sure what to do, for one hand I have the Momentus XT Seagate 750gb (with 8Gb of SSD) or a normal hdd with 7400rpm.What should I do? because I'm not sure if this MB model allows a HDD with 7400rpm
Thank you!All you need be concerned about are:
If you buy a SATA III 6.0/Gb/s drive your computer needs to have a controller that supports it.
The drive cannot be higher than 12.5 mm to fit.
Stick to the 500 GB XT hybrid. Some users have problems with the larger versions.
Visit OWC where you can find tutorials, tools, and drives. -
Macbook pro 2009 unibody with white screen and kernel panics
I upgrade to Lion a month or two ago and things have been working fine. A few days ago, I try to wake my computer from sleep and it freezes on a white screen. I reboot only to continue to find the white screen. I hear the chime every time on boot. From then on, I am having different responses on startup.
Initially I could boot to single user mode no problem, but would continue to get white screen on regular boot. I tried to reinstall lion, and on restart midway through install I got the half-gray "you need to restart" kernel panic screen.
Yesterday at apple store, it would not boot to single user, OS select, verbose, etc. modes. They told me it was logic board or hard drive.
Bough a SSD, successfully installed Snow Leopard, and then continued to have similar kernel panics.
Now, replaced originaly harddrive and successfully reinstalled Lion, although got a kernel panic on the halfway reboot (log posted below). Install finished, and now up and running for about an hour. Decided to reboot to check, and big surprise, one more kernel panic. (2nd log posted below).
Is this a logic board? Seems like the HD is not the problem since same issue with a SSD.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated, apply was very unhelpful (I am out of warranty, no applecare). Thanks

How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Some "common" error indicators:
SNS - sensor error
MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
MOT - fan error
