My new iPod isn't recognized by any computer

I just bought one of the new iPod touches and have tried to download music from two different computers but neither of them would even recognize that my iPod was plugged in. What should I do?

Did the computer have iTunes version 10.7 or later?
Does the iPod charge?
Tery a different cable. Some 5G iPod were shiped with defective cables.

  • My ipod isn't recognized by any computer & itunes, and desplays a sad face.

i have had my ipod mini for eleven months and this is the first problem i have had with it.
i went on a vacation to flordia, and while i was there my ipod crashed. i had dropped it once a few days before the crash, but it continued to play my music after i dropped it.
when i go to turn it on the apple logo appears, then the depressed ipod.
my ipod isn't recognized by any computer or tunes. when i plug it into my computer, the 'do not disconnect' screen doesn't even appear. all that happens is the apple logo screen, then the depressed ipod screen, then a recharging screen appears that is stuck on the lowest point possible.
i have already tried the "five R's" and everything else in the support pages, and so far they have helped me none. all they do is bring you around in huge circles, and you end up on the page you started on.
i run a windows xp, and have everything fully upgraded.
i know, i know, many of you are having similar problems, but could you please only post if you have an answer, thanks.

I know!!! It worked just fine one day, computer recognized it and i could add or remove songs at me leisure, but now I can't even charge it on a computer becasue it doesn't exsist to it. I also tried the five steps, but you can't restore the settings on it if the computer can't find it. Finally I had my sister bending the charge piece in the ipod just for it to show up, I restored it and it didn't make a bit of difference! I lost all 800 songs on it but I still can't charge it or add songs. If you find anything out, let me know!!!

  • New Ipod nano not recognized by my computer, asking for disk!!`

I bought my husband a new nano for Father's Day. I am having serious problems installing it through itunes. We have two other nanos that gave us no problem. Our computer keeps saying to put in the CD, and when I check the device manager under my computer, it says the driver is missing for this ipod. I would appreciate any computer savvy help with how to remedy this problem. Thanks

Have a look at these 2 articles.

  • New ipod, ISN'T RECOGNIZED BY ITUNES

I ordered a new video ipod (my old one is a generation three). When I plug it into the computer, it's recognized by my computer, but not by iTunes. I also got a new laptop, and I want to transfer the songs I have on my iTunes onto that computer using my new ipod. I tried manually copy-pasting the songs from iTunes into the ipod, but when I turned on my ipod afterwards, it didn't show the songs in the traditional menu setting. Can I still use the songs, just doing some kind of manual transfer onto my new MacBook, or is there some other way for me to do this that I'm missing?
Also, when I ask iTunes to do random shuffle, it isn't random at all (aka: five songs in a row from the same album, followed by three songs from another album all in a row, etc). I have it set to smart shuffle being least likely, and refresh does absolutely nothing. Plus, today my internet on my (not-wireless friendly) desktop is down, so no iTunes updates in sight.
    PLEASE HELP!

Read this and it will help you get iTunes to see your iPod.
To move your music to your new Computer is easy. You can read this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173 or easier yet, try a third party software program that will let you rip your iPod onto your new laptop. Since you have a MacBook, you will need one that will work with PC and Mac, I do believe. I know a PC formatted iPod will be read on a Mac, just not vice versa. Go to VersionTracker.com and type in iPod. You will see countless programs that will let your rip your iPod onto your iTunes.
Make sure you have all the songs in your library checked when playing iTunes in shuffle mode.

  • Yipes -- new ipod isn't recognized by itunes !!!

My 20 GB died and I've replaced it with the same model. I connected it to my Dell but the Dell doesn't seem to recognize the ipod. It didn't transfer songs. I don't want to lose my library and start over. I'm sure (I hope) it's an easy fix! Thanks for any help you can offer!!!
PS: Also, I imagine I should register my new ipod to activate the warrantee? How do I do this - there was no prompt?

  • My new Ipod isn't recognized by Itunes

My new Ipod Touch 3rd gen (32GB) just arrived. I connected it to my PC and got the message "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "iPod touch". Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this Ipod to factory settings."
Well, I did that. The OS's latest version was downloaded. The restore was made. It's now updated to 3.1.2, but the error remains. I keep getting the "iTunes cannot read(...)" message.
Done the restore about 5 times now. Tried different USB ports. Turned the iPod off and on again. I can use it just fine, can connect to the wifi, use the safari, etc. But can't sync with the iTunes. So, for now I have a good empty iPod Touch.
OBS.: I have a nano 4th gen (16GB) that works just fine. Itunes version is 9.0.2.25. Bought it new.

What do you mean by everything?  Have you really tried all the things on this page? http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/  Note that the iPod should be recognized as a digital camera for the purposes of seeing the pictures taken with the iPod camera and it should be also recognized in iTunes for all other functions.

  • My new iPod isn't recognized by iTunes. Instead it's recognized as a camera. I tried everything apple suggested but nothing seems to help. Is there anything ELSE I can do?

I Tried everything you guys suggested but none of it seems to help.

I've trieD everything on this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 but it won't even show up on the The Device Manager  not even as "unknown device" . All that's left is to check my cable but it' brand new so i don't know.
    I tried VISTA ANd Win7

    - Did you try resetting the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod look for abnormalities like bent of broken contacts, foreign material or cracked or broken plastic. The iPod uses different contact for syncing and charging.

  • New ipod video not recognized by my computer at all

i have an ipod mini and itunes on my windows xp computer. i just bought the new ipod video that it is not recognized by my computer at all. i plug it in and the entire computer freezes. if i plug in my mini everything works fine.
i have tried updating/uninstalling my new ipod video. i am worried that if i uninstall itunes that i will lose my purchased music.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do? does anyone have the same problem as me? i really want to start using my new ipod help please.

I assume you have installed the iPod driver, before connecting the 5G iPod. It is possible the device driver for the mini is different, and thus confusing your computer. The iPod driver is on the CD that came with your 5G iPod (iPod with Video)

  • My 6th generation 160gb ipod classic is displaying the red cross logo directing me to apple support. It's completely full and I'm wondering how I can recover the files form it. The iPod isn't recognized by my computer or by iTunes, help is appreciated!

Looking for help as to recover the files, thanks!

    Hello Lawrence,
    I do have AppleMobileDeviceService.exe running.
My USBs are plugging in straight into the laptop.  All 4 work.  Just today, I synced my iPod with multiple USB ports.  It works for the iPod, but the iPhone won't pop-up.  The iPhone does not appear in iTunes as a button anywhere.
I am unable to use another computer for this.  I can actually go into iTunes, add file to library, and add photos that way.  So, it's recognized by my computer.
This should have been seperated.  Basically, I don't have another computer accessible to me to back-up sync on iTunes with.
The last part means in iTunes, I can click "File > Add file to library" and the iPhone is shown as a camera icon.  I can click on it and have access to photos.  I can add those photos to the iTunes library.  That's about as far as the connectivity goes with the iPhone right now.

  • How do I get me new Ipod to be recognized on my computer?

I had an Ipod nano before, but it was stolen, so I purchased a new one. Now I can not get my computer to regognize my new one, hence being unable to transfer my previously purchased music onto my new Ipod...... can someone please help??
    Thanks!!!

    Hello,
First try the Five R's. The Five R's are the five things to first do if your iPod is having issues.
I especially suggest Resetting, Restoring, and Reinstalling iTunes.
Make sure your iTunes program is upgraded. Get the latest version here:
    iTunes - Download iTunes
If you have issues installing iTunes' latest updates, go here:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or Quicktime software in Windows
Try out the suggestions and solutions in these Apple Support links:
    Using iPod with multiple computers
iPod shows up in Windows, but not in iTunes
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
Try those articles. Post back, so I can try to help if those things above didn't.

  • Brand new iPod Touch - not recognized by my computer or iTunes

I just purchased an iPod Touch today and it isn't showing up in My Computer or iTunes. My USB port is working because it recognizes other devises. I checked my USB port in Device Manager and it says Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller. I even uninstalled iTunes and installed it again. I'm just sick ... I have read everything I can find that might work, but nothing does.
If anyone has a suggestion for me, I would really appreciate it.
    Martha

Thanks, Alex. The link you gave me says that there should be a Apple device listed with my USB's and it is not. I did find the driver USBAAPL.SYS in the Windows\System32 folder\drivers. Should it be somewhere else to work??? The Mobile Device Service is there and is started. I am completely iPod ignorant, but I did have a shuffle sometime back that worked just fine.
I appreciate your help. If you have any other advice, I would appreciate it.

Follow the directions on this page. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
It will put your iPod into recovery mode and should make it visible to Itunes.
Then you can restore it again and hopefully for the last time.
Also might want to check out this page also.
