My new iPod shuffle tells me there are no songs on it

I'm new to the Apple iPod thing, but I'm sure I have it pretty well figured out. I used my iTunes to autofill my ipod last night for the first time, and when the ipod is plugged in to the dock, all the songs show up on the ipod. However, when I plug in the headphones and try to listen to them, the green and orange lights flash alternately 4 times each. According to the information card, this means there are no songs on the iPod. What gives? Did I do something wrong?
Any info would be appreciated.
Phil

Thanks for checking in, but I got it resolved like 5 seconds after I submitted the question... I turned the ipod on while it was plugged into the dock, then removed it from the dock and now it works fine. No problems with subsequent syncs either.

  • To transfer songs from my ipod 60gig to my new ipod shuffle?

Hello I own an apple ipod 60gig and a new ipod shuffle. When I drag the songs to my ipod shuffle I get a circle with a slash though it. Might any of you know why this would be happening? I did authorize this computer to have access to my purchased songs.

I do notice the icon on my ipod shuffle in greyed out. How do I fix this?
IF you have both iPods connected AT THE SAME TIME, disconnect the 60gig. iTunes for Windows can only deal with one iPod at a time: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61713
iPod for Windows: Only works with one iPod at a time
While iTunes for Windows allows you to connect multiple iPods simultaneously, this is not supported, and unexpected behavior may occur.
Although FireWire and USB allow multiple devices to be connected to the computer at the same time, iTunes works best with only one iPod connected at a time. If you plan to use multiple iPods with the same computer, eject and disconnect one iPod before attaching another.

  • Upgrade to iOS4 makes my 3GS think there are no songs.

    hi,
I upgraded my 3GS last night and noticed when I go to the iPod -> Songs it is empty.
However if I go to Artists or select a playlist all my songs are there. I can actually play them but cannot view all or shuffle all songs etc.
And if I go to Settings and Usage, it tells me there are 0 songs as well.
Any way I can fix this?

I solved the problem by deleting my music library and re-syncing. Go to owner's iphone in itunes and click the summary tab. Under options click manually manage music to remove your library from the iphone. Then click sync only checked songs and re-sync. That worked for me. Very disappointing that Apple could not provide this information.

  • I just got a new iPod shuffle, I connected it to my computer, synced my current iTunes, (the iPod shows the songs are on there). I charged it fully.  I went to listen to it for the first time, and nothing :( no sound nothing, the lite is red.?  plz help:(

Copy the music from Nano to computer by:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
Then just sync to the new device

  • TS1424 I'm having a hardtime syncing my new ipod shuffle, get a message that says my songs are not found

I'm having a difficult time transfering my songs to my new ipod shuffle 4th generation. A message says that my songs are not found. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure what procedure you are using, but you should do it this way...
First, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is not visible, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, find and select the shuffle under DEVICES.  There is a bar with buttons toward the top, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the shuffle's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the shuffle.
Check the box for Sync Music.  Choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Under Playlists, find and checkmark that 12-song playlist.  Click Apply.
Going forward, you can update that playlist (add/remove songs) in your iTunes library.  The next time you connect the shuffle (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically updates the shuffle with the same changes.

To give you something, I need something too, like
How old is the Ipod? (if it is still under warranty, then send it to Apple service shop)
Are you running Windows iTunes or Mac iTunes?
What do you see on the iPod screen?
My guess is, your iPod classic is more than 2 years old and out of warranty, and the hardisk has gone kaput! and need to be replaced.
    Have a nice day!

  • HT1477 I am trying to install a new iPod Shuffle and my pc does not pick it up.  My pc is running windows 8.1 os.  I do not see that os in the list of operating systems.

I am trying to install a new iPod Shuffle and my pc does not pick it up.
My operating system is Windows 8.1 and windows 8 does not appear
in the list of operating systems.

You are referring to OFFICE 2010, not Windows XP or 7.
And which version of Windows do you have?
NEVER begin before you have a backup, ideally one you have tested and know works.
You don't really install Boot Camp, the Assistant is a partition tool utility.
You may just want Office 2008 for Mac.
If you need Office for Windows, perhaps run Windows in a VM like Parallels or Fusion.
Buy some backup drives and start using TimeMachine for one backup, then weekly backup with SuperDuper.
IF there is now a partition for Windows, all you need is to buy Windows, and I would recommend Windows 7 Home Premium (retail) which is about US$149.
Has nothing to do with free space. Office 2010 isn't to boot from. In fact, you can copy the disc to a folder (1.25GB) and run SETUP from there.

Does anyone have any other resolutions?
    Many thanks

Make sure your computer meets the iPod shuffles requirements for Mac.

Make sure you are using the cable for the USB port on your Mac that came with the shuffle.

I have try to use it on my PC, and thereS, no problem on the PC. I can load songs in it and it's working. But if i connect it to my Mac after that, it keep telling me that my ipod is corrupted and need to be restore...
I decided to go back to the store for a refund and I bought a new one from another store. Back home, try to plug that ipod on my iBook... same problem !!!
I'm using a nano and a mini on that same computer without problems, but the ipod shuffle gen 2 simply doesn't work...
    HELP !!!

In the Disk Utility, click on the Shuffle (designated by the orange USB icon next to it) in the left-hand column. Then, click on the erase tab. Choose MS DOS for the file system, uncheck the option to install OS 9 driver if it's selected, and then click erase. Afterwards, try restoring in iPod again.
And yes, you do want the shuffle to be formatted in FAT32 even though you're connecting to a Mac.

  • Sync new ipod shuffle

    Hi
Tried syncing - by attaching ipod with its cable to my desktop computer.
Screen indicates that synchronisation is complete.
When I press play button on ipod, the voice over tells me to sync my ipod
Bought a new ipod shuffle as a replacement for one that I lost recently.
When I press the play button, the voice over tells me to sync my ipod to itunes - which I ofcourse, thought I had done already!
The problem could be that I did not register the correct serial number.
    Is there a cure?
    Thanks in advance.

Connect the iPod shuffle to the computer and go through the iPod Setup Assistant when prompted.
