My new iPod Touch 5g gets hung up when updating apps.

The blue installation line freezes when complete and a duplicate app then appears. Solution?

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Has it been disabled via Settings -> General -> Restrictions?
I assume you have checked other pages of apps by swiping to the left from the home screen?

  • Is it possible for a iPod touch to get a virus when downloading free games off the internet? If yes, is there an antivirus program to protect the ipod. and can some of the current apps be saved from the virus damage?

I had one game permanently just stop working, it usually does crash, but that last time it just went bad, I don't know the reason, I tried powering off iPod, relaunching game, but the game never worked again. I think it corrupted its own save file or some of its own data.
Have you tried another game or app, do those work? If they do, then I guess you know where the problem lies, but if they all stop working, then what about apps, can apps launch?
Lastly, apps from the app store are checked by Apple, so they are clean.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Do all new iPods Touch's come with the January Update?

I'm looking at getting myself an iPod Touch and I've found the 16GB version at a really low price but it doesn't mention whether it includes the January update. Do all new iPod Touch's include the January Update or do you still have to buy it separately?

It varies depending on where you look.
I emailed one online store (in the UK) asking whether or not the iPod Touch they were selling had the update and they said some of them do, some of them don't.
I would make sure you ask when ordering (unless from a site like Amazon which sells both those with updates and those without.
You can get the update for 12.99 in UK

  • New IPod Touch will not sync with Itunes-updated to iOS 7.1.1 for new IPod

Just purchased new IPod Touch (purchased 6-3-14 - had a Classic until it fried). After setting it up, I tried to sync to ITunes and it says it syncs but does nothing. No music transferred to IPod. I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 if that means anything. This is very frustrating as I am not a computer whiz and really want to use my IPod in my really long commutes to work. Thanks for any insight...

    Hi abbeyesque,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your iPod touch is recognized and syncing, but it isn't transferring the content that you expect to be transferred. Take a look at the article linked below, it will show you how to select the iPhone in iTunes and where the tabs are (second picture) that control what is synced to the iPod.
iOS: Syncing your data with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
    Sync using USB
    Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable.
Click the Device button in the upper-right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button first.) If you don't see your device, you may need to hide the sidebar. Choose View > Hide Sidebar.
Some tabs may not appear if you don't have the corresponding content in your library. For example, if you don't have any podcasts in your library, the Podcast tab won't appear.
Click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen, to sync.

  • New ipod touch is locked up after sw update 5.1 fail

new ipod touch came today, turned it on and completed the steps and connected to my wifi ok. then plugged to usb and computer (win xp) and started itunes. first messsage wanted to select sync options- picked music and got the message that my library was to big for the ipod touch, next i noted that the itouch was named "administrator" because i missed that on the first step. clicked on the "administrator" name and changed it. about then a pop appeared and suggested that i update sw to 5.1. ok, start download and soon it fails with network error. tried again and same failure. left it alone while doing other things and came back, plugged in and got message that device needed to be restored. tried that two times and fail both times with unknown error 1604. now ipod touch is not working at all. when it is plugged into computer the ipod touch has a display of usb plug pointing to itunes icon. device dosn't appear on itunes or windows xp. tried the reset button combo. upgraded to latestet itunes sw and rebooted computer. still dead. i'm going to send it in to apple unless someone has a better idea.
    Thanks, steve

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • My ipod touch is getting an error when I try to restore.  It says 2003 error.  It's frozen.

My ipod touch got a 2003 error when I tried to restore.  It's frozen.  I've tried everything I've read but nothing works.

    For the error try:
"Error 2000-2009: (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on) If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. Learn how to reset the SMC. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue continues, it may be related toconflicting security software."
    Above from:
Update and restore alert messages on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    To unfreeze have your tried:
    - Resetting:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Placing the iPod in recovery mode and restoring it.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - Placing is DFU mode and restoring it
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
Saying you tried everything is not really helpful since it is very easy to miss something.  It is helpful to say what tried and did not work.

  • The new iPod touch might get even better....

Well, as everyone pretty much knows that apple released the fourth generation of it's iPod touch line, with improved retina display, camera and built-in microphone etc. I still haven't gotten my hands on the new one because I don't like apple recycling program. My iPod is great conditions for me to give it away for mere 10% in discount toward a new iPod purchase. Anyways, I did got the chance to check out the specs on an apple store to see what the retina display was all about and FaceTime as well. Pretty nice upgrade, but I'm looking forward to next year.
Let's cut to chase, the fourth generation iPod Foch is able to play 720p resolution on video with it's rear camera, up to date that is the highest resolution available today on smarphones. Next year it might all change, a new company called" Marvell" announced that they created a chip that could run at a speed of 1.5 Ghz on mobile devices. The ARMADA 628 is intended to perform like a race car engine on demand, while still delivering the frugal gas-mileage of a hybrid automobile. In real world terms, this enables the ARMADA 628 to play more than 10 hours of full 1080p HD video or 140 hours of music, on a single charge. The ARMADA 628 is also designed to be the first mobile multi-core CPU to provide high-speed USB 3.0 connectivity, which offers 10x faster performance than USB 2.0. It's much impressive as years go by, mobile devices comes with powerful processors that one day equal to computers and laptops performance.

I have the same situation about grabbing the "new" gen of tech in exchange for last years. I've mostly settled into just weighing out the worth and the availability for me. I picked myself up the 1st generation of iTouch, excited, but was more enthralled to purchase the second generation due to the external speaker for the most part. I was fortunate enough to have several issues with my 1st gen that I had gotten a replacement and found a buddy of mine who would buy my 1st gen at 75% the cost (literally, I never pulled the replacement out of it's box, so it was practically brand new for him). I was able to cash out for the second generation. Unfortunately, I never had the same luck with my 2nd gen, as there were no device errors, but I did drop it (twice) and the screen became very scratched. I luckily stumbled on some money to spend and bought my 4th gen, giving my second gen to a buddy of mine for free (yes, because even I wouldn't sell it online).
Point is, don't attempt to sell your stuff online, find a buddy or recycle. It's worth better doing so because A) you trust the source and the customer, and B) you can probably pull more cash out of the buy. I thought about selling on eBay and sites like that, but the problem comes down to trust and that you pay for the shipment of the device. I've never heard of having to ship it to a warehouse to have it "inspected" because eBay still follows the "buyer beware" policy. Looking into Amazon, it seems you have to be a "reputable" seller, that sells regular merchandise.
As far as technology is concerned, though, don't buy into everything you hear. The Droid X is stated to having the fastest processor on the market, while Apple still reaps from it's A4 chip, and even still the EVO claims it's the best. Marketing is just that: buy into the "new" fad while we build a better one in a couple months. My buddy and I have come up with a motto: Buy every two generations.

  • Ipod touch 4 gets hot while using some apps like angry birds?

Is it normal for the upper back of the ipod touch 4 to get hot while using some apps like angry birds? Is this a potential battery problem? It doesnt get hot while charging or playing songs... Just when using some game apps.  I assume that it has something to do with battery drain, should I be concerned?

When the iPod is used heavily like for games it is norma for the iPod to get warm.  Unless you hav short battery life I would not be concerned.

  • New ipod touch doesn't turn on when plugged in

i just bought my ipod touch yesterday. when i plugged it into my imac using the usb cable, it doesn't turn on to show that it's charging like my nano does when it's turned off. i had to turn the touch on before i could see the huge green battery icon. is there something wrong with my ipod touch? i read on other forums that it should 'turn on' to show the battery icon charging when i plug in an ipod that's turned off. i can't find any answers to my question elsewhere.
    please help! thanks so much!
