My new Logitech 4 port USB hub worked for 5 minutes.
After I had the message that a USB was drawing too much power and the hub from the hard drive would be de activated I bought a Logitech 4 port USB hub.
This worked for 5 minutes and now I get either the same message or nothing at all
Could someone please tell me what to do?
Click on the Link supplied above and follow the Steps...
Before doing that... and this is not a patronising question... but I have to ask... you have checked that the Wall Outlet you are using for the Hub is working...
Also, when you did the Restart did you Disconnect the Hub...

I need a very good 4-6 port USB hub & must look cool too adn must be able to power anty device as I have the following attached to it:
Lacie Porsche portable drive

I can't vouch for the quality but they don't come any cooler! -
My iPhone 4S will charge on a laptop but not from a wall plug. I have tried different boxes and different USB cords from the wall but none work. These boxes and USB cords work for other family members with iPhones and a USB cord that works from the laptop won't work from 3 or 4 different wall boxes that work for others. I'm stumped :/
Update: It seems as though the phone will charge if I plug it in and then turn it off. It will not charge while the phone is on. Also iTunes will not recognize it, so I can't sync or anything. I read somewhere that it could be a fuse somewhere?? Or maybe the dock connector. Where is the best place to get this repaired?

When I use Iphone 4 personal hotspot on USB, it works for a short time and then times out.
When pinging my iphone directly at 172.20.10.1, while I'm surfing and it times out, the ping shows nothing but "request timed out" .. Sometimes it "comes back" and sometimes I have to reboot my phone or disconnect the USB.. It's always done this and only on USB, it's very frustrating.
I have packet sniffed also, using Wireshark. When the "timeouts" happen, there's no more data coming from the Iphone. My PC continually sends ARP requests as well and don't get responses.
Have searched google endlessly and have gotten no where. This has been going on for several months and I'm just getting a bit fed up now.

E3200 - USB port does NOT work for more than one device
We needed a new router that had the dual band connectivity as our previous router stopped working properly when we started using a baby monitor operating on the same 2.4 GHz. The choice was between E3200 and E2500. We chose the E3200 mainly because it also offered a USB port. We were hoping to use that to connect our printer and two external drives (thus bypassing our old desktop that's been working as a server). However, it turns out that the USB port on E3200 does NOT support USB hubs! So, you can ONLY use ONE device - either a printer or one external storage drive. That wasn't really clear at all from the description. I feel like we wasted the extra $50 hoping to get functionality that just isn't there. Can't believe that in this day and age, Cisco thinks we all have only ONE USB device we might want to connect to the network! The router itself is fast enough, but the extra $50 for a USB port that doesn't do much and some speedboost phantom ability is just not worth it.
Just to save time to you all, after numerous attempts to install a USB hub to my E3200,
I wrote to Cisco Customer Service (live chat) and I specifically requested how to set up the usb hub or the virtual USB port and they said that they do not have a software to install a USB hub.
Hope this help

Cannot get the 5.1 Multimedia Centre Audio/USB Hub working
Hi there,
I wonder if anyone could help save my sanity...
I have been using a Toshiba Tecra A8 laptop now for sometime with no problems. This is running with Windows XP. I love it, its great, all except for one thing.
I REALLY miss my Creative 5.1 speakers for listening to music to in my box room when working from home.
They just sort of sit there on the windowsill, pining to be used....
So, I thought to myself, there MUST be a 5.1 USB external soundcard that I could purchase to allow these speakers to be operational once again. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Toshiba themselves made such a thing!!!
In my simple way, I believed that it must be the best solution, to purchase an accessory of the same manufacturer as the machine itself.
This would be a doddle and I would once again be listening to quality top end and punching bass......WRONG!!!
I have now installed and uninstaled the software 3 times.
The thing works lovely as an additional USB hub, perfect, no probs at all, but try to get a single note of music from the thing? Forget it!!!!
I can get sound from the laptops speakers when the usb lead is not connected in.
Everytime I do connect the multimedia (?) centre to the laptop I get the "Found new hardware" wizard come up & I am too simple to be able to simply tell the damn thing where the files that are now necessary might be.
So, I ask for all of your powers to solve this before I load the laptop, the speakers, the multimedia (?) into the car and head off to Toshiba HQ in Addlestone to demand satisfaction.
Many thanks for anything you can do to help me hear sound through these speakers once again.
SoulsterAbout Multimedia Centre Audio, I have no idea.
1. May be damaged USB 4 port mini hub itself lead to
2.USB Interface Damage
3. Chassis front interface, leading to voltage instability
4. Used to extend the line leading to insufficient power supply to USB 4 port hub Interface Device Not Recognized
*Recommendations directly to the device plugged into the USB port on the back-end chassis (without extension)
5. There is also a very important factor! Now USB, anyone can produce, it is clear there will be a problem, is not compatible with the system, more terrible thing is that these parallel imports please some of the manufacturers rookie programmers to write some of the junk drive and cause problems by virtue by virtue (such as something very popular in China)! So, bought brand on all right!
6. It is possible that the wrong front USB access, and perhaps pick the wrong chip burned

Time Machine and 4 Port USB Hub
I am trying to use a 1Tb external drive with Time Machine. I have connected the external drive via a 4 port, externally powered USB hub. The hub is then connected to my Airport Extreme.
The problem is the drive will not mount using the hub. Yet, when I plug the drive directly into my MacBook Pro, it shows up just fine in Disk Utilities, and Time Machine wants to know if I would like to use it as a backup disk.
I'd really like to use this drive wirelessly to back up multiple Macs via my Airport Extreme. The odd thing is that I have a printer connected to the same hub and I share it using the Airport Extreme and it works just fine. I just don't understand why the hub is making a difference.
- Do I need a different hub?
- Are hubs a problem with this kind of set up?
And I'd like to sneak in a follow-up question if I may:
- Can I use the same hard drive with Time Machine to back up 2 or 3 Macs?
Thanks in advance! My thanks to you and Tesserax for the quick and helpful responses! You were right about the 1Tb drive not being supported wirelessly through my Airport Extreme. The drive showed up under "disk" in Time Machines preferences, but the drive would not mount. The minute I put the printer directly into the Extreme and connected the drive to the MacBook Pro via the hub, it showed up in Disk Utilities and was ready to format. And, now Time Machine is asking me if I want to use it as my Backup Disk. Cool! Now the only question is if I can share the disk so that my other Macs can also take advantage of this new Backup Disk. We'll see..
Thanks again so much!! -
What kind of USB hubs work with the 2014 version of Time Capsule?
The latest post I could find on USB hubs archived from 2012 and I'm wondering what today's information is.
I have a Sabrent HB-J3U7. It is a 7 port USB 3.0 hub, two charging ports and five "normal". I think I remember reading the charging ports can deliver about 2 amps each. Obviously the Sabrent is a powered hub. I plugged it into the TC's USB port and nothing. No lights on hub indicating a connection at the device plug in ports.
I did a little experimenting and the hub works fine when hooked to my iMac (OS X 10.9.4). The individual devices work fine when connected straight to the TC USB port. All I can discern is that this hub is not compatible with TCs. Too much power maybe? The iMac has a USB 2.0 controller like the TC and the hub works there so I don't really understand the failure on the TC.
Then, for some reason, I tried the hub when it was disconnected from power and I could finally see the Sabrent hub connected devices (32GB USB 3.0 thumb drive and 2TB USB WD Passport - both formatted Extended Journaled). So I plugged the Sabrent power up and it still worked. That is until I tried to rename the TC hard drive through Airport Utility which required an update to TC. TC wouldn't restart. Just a solid amber, not even flashing amber. I disconnected Sabrent and unplugged the TC and replugged and TC worked again but now I'm afraid of the Sabrent.
Does anyone have ideas about what is going on? Any help would be appreciated. The hub is not compatible. It sounds like the unit is powering the link to the TC.. which would cause the TC to freeze up. You might need a special USB cable which has just data connection but no power.
It is really hard to get info on hubs that work.. particularly because there are so many around and many are changed .. eg if you buy a belkin this year it fails when last years one worked.. that is because all the manufacturer is farmed out to various factories in China who use .. the cheapest parts available today to build them.. next week it could be different.
The TC just doesn't have a huge amount of memory to store drivers for every USB under the sun. So some work some don't. The best I have found is the cheapest brand x USB2. I would not bother with USB3 since that chipset is even more unlikely to be supported than USB2 ones.
I have tried to get people to add to a database.. not much so far.

New keyboard makes USB hub mad
I purchased a new mac keyboard. Before I was using a bluetooth mac keyboard.
Ever since plugging the new mac keyboard in (non bluetooth) I have had nothing but problems from my connected Belkin Powered USB hub.
With the wireless keyboard the hub works perfectly.
With the new mac keyboard the hub does not work properly. When booting into XP it will not boot until the hub is unplugged from the mac.
The seagate harddrive attached used to go to sleep when the mac did, now it stays on.
The hub is sporadic in XP, the various items plugged in will work then not work.
The ALT key does not work on the mac keyboard when using it to choose boot drives between restarts.
Does anyone else have this issue with the new mac keyboard? I must reiterate, without the mac keyboard plugged in and back to the wireless one, everything works as it should.Hi Gary
You don't say if the keyboard is plugged into the back of the iMac or to the hub? I can only suspect that the way your devices are connected may be the problem in general! If you look in the iMac handbook you will see that the keyboard should be connected to a port on the back of the Mac.

External USB Hub limit for Satellite Pro C650
Is there a limit to how many external usb ports you can connect through the Satellite Pro C650?
Wtih the four port hub I have, the ports seem to work individually and all devices work normally when plugged directly into the lap top, but when all devices are plugged into the hub and lap top combined, there are errors coming up.
Thanks,
KarynWell, I think this should not be a problem if the single USB hubs provide own power.
The point is that the single USB port provides common 500mA and if more devices would share the power from one USB port then it could be possible that the available 500mA would not be enough for all USB devices. -

Port forwarding not working for VPN
Hi there,
I am at a loss as to what I am doing wrong with regards to setting up a VPN. I admit this is all completely new territory for me, and I am learning as I go along, so may have overlooked something very obvious.
I have openned up the VPN ports on the router (500, 1701, 4500 - UDP; 1723 - TCP), and can confirm from the logs that they are letting traffic in ok.
So that leaves the server itself - testing using an open port checking tool confirms all ports I have open in the router firewall, and active and accessible on the server, except the VPN ports and service, are indeed open and accessible.
The VPN service is running, and I have ensured the services are available within the firewall service for 'all', and all services available for the 192.168.1.xxx range.
I have indicated that the VPN should use the range - 10.0.0.1 to 200
The DNS and DHCP services on the server are running. At the domain resgitsrar, I have indicated that the subdomain I am using to access the server and its services via the web should point to the static IP I have from the ISP.
I should mention that if I use the local IP address of the server, I can connect ok, it is only when I use the static IP that I am unable to connect.
Every other port opens up successfully - FTP (21), Web (80/443), etc - just not the ones for the VPN, so I assume there is some sort of conflict between or within the the VPN/DHCP/DNS services or with the VPN service itself.
Any advice and potential solutions would be greatly appreciated, as I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure this one out by myself.
Thanks in advance, and I hope to hear from folk soon.
ChrisOK - here's how my router is configured:
NAT (Type = Destination) Public IP address to VPN Server IP address (I had a problem when I didn't have the NAT Type set properly)
I have a separate public IP address reserved for VPN traffic, but that's not necessary if you set up the order of the rules on your router properly. It's just easier to have a separate IP address.
These are the ports I have open:
UDP - 500
UDP - 1701
TCP - 1723
TCP - 3283
UDP - 3283
UDP - 4500
TCP - 5900
TCP - 5988
I have these ports open to accomodate remoting in via Apple Remote Desktop.
However, since Mavericks, I can't use ARD anymore. But I can use Back to My Mac and Screen Sharing (go figure!) to get to my server and then from the server I can use ARD within the network.
Don't know if that helps or not, but it works for me. -
S10 ideapad - fails to accept 4-port usb hub
I got an external usb keyboard, and a 4-port iogear usb hub
to connect both a mouse & the keyboard.
The keyboard lights go on, briefly, during boot = = but at the login screen,
neither mouse nor keykboard will work.
Any ideas - ?I have the same issue with my Thinkpad. It all depends on what all is plugged into the USB. If they are all used then you don't have enough power to power the hub completely. Only a powered hub will work.
Does one work if only one of them is plugged into the hub?

Firewire 800 port doesn't work for cameras but works for Ext drives
I have a Power PC G5 1.8 running 10.5.8
I have a 9 pin FW 800 port on the back that does not work for cameras, trying to capture video into Final Cut Pro. But works fine when I hook up an external hard drive to it.
Does anyone know why that is? It used to work, now it doesn't. Any suggestions?Does System Profiler>Hardware>Forewire tell us anything when the Cameras are plugged in FW/800 port?
Do the Drives have an extra FW/800 port to plug the Camera in?
