My New MacBook does not charge the battery at all

Initially, it stayed at 65% with the exteranl power connected all the time. Then it stayed at 0% after I used it without external power. Now it definitly does not start if no external power attached, and sometimes does not start even with exteranl power attached - I can only get it started by taking out the battery, putting it back and plugging in the exteranl power. And the cutomer service ***** - I am retuning it for sure, wasted too much of my time.
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well, I did want to exchange it initially, but the process of getting Apple to admoit there is something wrong with this BRAND NEW system was too painful for me. I never had a similar experience before. Yesterday, after spending almst half day on the phone, I finally got a technitian to admit that the bettery was bad, but the customer return department already closed. (I called both of them a number of times and experienced serveral transfering back and forth, and cutting off). What really pi**ed me off completely is that this morning when I called the custermer return again, the guy STILL transfered me to the tech support WITHOUT listening to me and WITHOUT my permission. Maybe the Apple product IS really that great and worth being abused and treated badly for, but I have never had such a bad experience in my life before, and I do not want to spend a premium price for a system comes brocken and needs half a month to get it "repaired", not mentioning wasting my warrenty on it. So I am going to stay away from Apple's product till they really know how to treat their customers. Before then, I will just return everything they sent me and let my credit company, American Express, a company really stands behand their customers, to deal with them and get my money back.
Ironically, I am the lead quality and reliability engineer who qulified the Intel GMCH for Apple...

My charger connects with my computer with a very faint green light (not the normal orange light) and can maintain the computer turned on but does not charge the battery. The power source to keep it on is the power adapter and that it's "Not charging" on the battery settings. And my charger seems to charge other computers fine.
The part of my mac where the adapter (L-shaped, magnetic) attaches is a bit damaged - a small piece of the white case/body around the part where the adapter attaches is broken off, but that's just an outer damage.
I don't know what's wrong with my computer, and if anyone has had a similar experience or knows what's going on, it'd be tremendously helpful!
    Thank you!!

    Hi Christopher,
Doubtful an upgrade would fix a hardware issue. If you are thinking of upgarding to Lion, best to do all necessary maintenance first.

Power Adapter Does Not Charge the Battery and Charge Light Is On?
My power adapter doesn't charge my computer anymore. however the charge light is on.
Please help my battery is draining fas

So, with your power adaptor connected not only does the battery not charge but the powerbook is not running on ac power. Then I guess the power adaptor is faulty. In as much as you've verified this with a known good one a new one is in order. Try yours in another powerbook to make sure.

  • Satellite A100-166 PSAA9E does not charge the battery

    Hello,
My laptop does not charge the battery.
Although Windows Xp recognizes the battery and says charging, the battery is not recharged.
I tried with a spare battery as i thought the battery was defective, with same results.
Strange is, when i turn off the laptop the power supply led stays on and blue, even without the power supply atached thus discharging the battery.
The battery led is always amber but not charging!!!
What is the matter with the laptop?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Generally there are three different possibilities;
    1) the AC adaptor is faulty
    2) the battery is faulty
    3) the notebooks board electronic (power supply electronic) malfunctions
So now its necessary to check all this steps to locate the fault.
You said that you have tested different batteries and the AC adaptor works too.
So its possible that there is something wrong with the power supply electronic
In such case there is no much to do as to contact the ASP in your country. The technicians should check the notebook and should run some diagnostic tests
I recommend contacting the guys and ask for the details and for the further handling Good luck and happy new year.

  • My battery does not charge, the battery is okay but no charging functionality

i have a g60 laptop, I think it is US120 model, It should be registered to me.  When the AC charger is on it does not detect it and the battery does not charge.  The battery got lower and lower and now it will not start.  It also will not run without the batter in it and without charge in the battery.  Any ideas_?

It sounds like your adaptor may have died.  Here is a link that you can find information for troubleshooting your adaptor.

  • MacBook does not "see" the battery. Poweradapter won't charge it ..

Hello, my Macs seem to be at war with me. Today, it's my MacBook playing up. I plugged it in this morning and was surprised to find that it switched off the moment I took the poweradapter out. I then realized that it only works when powered off the power adapter. "No battery" is what the computer thought. I took the battery out and put it in again but nothing changed. I switched the computer off and on again and it nows recognizes that a battery is in but it shows me that it is at 0% and says that "battery is not charging". The power adapter is attached at all times .... It is an older computer (end of 2006), perhaps an old battery, but hey .. is it normal for things to go so out of order from a moment to moment?

Hi, m.g.h. Have you ever tried a different, known-good AC adapter, just to eliminate the possibility that the problem resides there? If you plug the adapter in and the adapter ringlight glows green, turn the Powerbook over and press the button on the battery. The lights on the battery should glow green and stay on if the adapter is working correctly.
I don't see the Battery Info in "About this Mac..." (it's not listed at all; is this because I'm in OS 10.3.9...?
Yes, it is. That info doesn't appear in Panther's System Profiler, so you were right to check it in Terminal.
Your battery is obviously connected to the Powerbook, given the Terminal readouts. That being the case, it would seem that the possible causes include a bad (though new) battery; a bad PMU; a bad DC-In board, if you have a DVI Tibook; and a bad AC adapter.

My laptop is not charging, it is plugged in but never gains more than 13%.

    Help?
Hmm I assume its battery related issue and probably the battery should be replaced in order to solve this problem.
If you remove the battery from the notebook, you should find the battery part number.
This part number will help you to get an compatible battery.

  • PRESARIO C700 SAYS 'PLUGGED IN AND CHARGING' BUT DOES NOT CHARGE THE BATTERY

I have a Compaq Presario C700 (3 actually), one of the 3 has a problem and only works when  on battery power although it is plugged in and states it is charging? I know the batteries are ok and the AC as they both work fine on my other 2 systems. The laptop will not work off mains alone and has to have the battery connected. Any ideas before it goes to the computer grave yard?

    Hi Builderboy,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your Compaq Presario C700 Notebook and having an issue with the battery. Here is a link to test and calibrate the battery.

My brand new MacBook Pro retina display not charging the battery any more after 3 weeks...no green or red Led. Any one now about this problem? Thanks

Either the power brick is damaged, or the charging circuit is on the blink, or both. Either way, a trip to the Apple Store or the Apple Authorized Service Provider is in order, as this ain't no bargain basement toy.
In the meantime, can attempt an SMC Reset to see if it helps.

  • New 13" Macbook Pro trying to connect to a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 as second monitor. I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. The Macbook does not sense the second monitor (TV). Help?!

I've been a Mac since 2008, so I know my way around the system pretty well. This issue, however, has me stumped. I had an iMac until now and only now am I experiencing some difficulty with my new MacBook Pro. The model I have is the newest 13" Macbook Pro model and I'm trying to connect a Panasonic VIERA TC-L42U30 42" HDTV as a second monitor via the Thunderbolt port.
It worked the first two times and hasn't worked since, after 10-15 attempts with different configurations, turning things on n off, restarting the mac, unplugging the cables, adapters, TV, resetting the P RAM, etc... I've used multiple hdmi-thunderbolt/mini displayport adapters and multiple hdmi cables and still no success. No matter what I do, the Macbook does not sense the TV as a second monitor anymore.
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and their "genius" there had it working fine with a DVI connection to a regular monitor. The Panasonic TV I have has HDMI connections and one VGA connection which does not support HD, but no DVI option. I want an HD connection to mirror or extend my MacBook Pro screen. At the Apple Store, they didn't have a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so he could not try that out for me.
Anyone else have this configuration or another similar one with a Panasonic HDTV?
    Ideas? Suggestions? Anything?! Help!!
P.S. I'm running Mountain Lion, if that wasn't already obvious. Everything is up to date in my App Store as well.
    Thanks!

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • My new iPod nano does not get the battery life that is advertised

Help me my iPod nano does not get the battery life that is advertised

Which battery life are you referring to? Apple's website states the iPod Nano 6th Gen will get "up to 24 hours of music playback when fully charged". There are going to be a lot of things that can change that. Are you using the stopwatch or the count down timer a lot? Are you using the FM radio a lot? Any accessories that you are using with the iPod? These will all have an effect on your battery life.

  • My brand new Ipad 2 is not charging the battery with py PC thru USB. Is that normal? When I plug it directly into the wall, it works... Thanks! Sam

My brand new Ipad 2 is not charging the battery with py PC thru USB. Is that normal? When I plug it directly into the wall, it works... Thanks! Sam

It talks extensively about charging in the user guide, and how USB ports on PCs and older Macs may not provide sufficient power to charge the iPad.  The user guide is available for free from the iBook store (accessed directly via the iPad iBooks app).
My iPad charges fine when plugged in to the back of my iMac, but I would always prefer to use the mains adaptor to save the strain on my USB circuits (which can wear out if used heavily to power external devices).

  • How smart is my mac? can use the AC adapter as a main power source and not charge the battery when its fully charged?

does my mac use the AC adapter as the power source when its plugged in and the battery is full? is it smart to enough to split?

The charging circuit charges until the battery reaches 100%, then shuts down the charging and goes to powering mode.  When the battery charge trickles down to 93-95% the charging circuit starts again and tops up the battery.  Will continue to operate like that if you leave it plugged in.  Keeping it plugged in does not harm the battery or risk overcharging.
