My new MacBook Pro 15" Retina freezes- any help?
No fun with my new Apple product. Almost every day I find my keyboard and trackpad locked during work. I've put it away for now and work only with my iMac.
Is there some hope to get this nasty behaviour cured through a firmware- or software patch?

Other users have reported that leaving any USB device connected also prevents the problem. It's a workaround but not too onerous.

Hey,
I'm new to the world of Mac, but not computers. I recently have purchased a Macbook Pro and it has been doing well for me. Except I have one little issue, my macbook will sometimes freeze completely, mouse and keyboard have no effect, system will completely stop running, any sound from music/video stops. It's not a beachballing problem when programs stop responding, the whole system completely stops. This doesn't happend very often, but I am concerned that it might happen when I'm doing work that is unsaved.
It this a known issue for my macbook pro? I've done some googling and I can see they had an issue with keyboards and mice freezing, but that's not my issue. I have this feeling it's that my mac is running out of memory, how does OSX handle this situation, does it completely kill itself without warning? Windows will normally alert me first and I'll close down my browser and re open it again and that usually solves my problems (I usually have 70+ tabs open across 2 firefox windows, that have been open for days and memory usage does build up).

As the title says, I'm looking for a case or bag for the new MBP w/ Retina Display. I'd prefer either a sleeve or a backpack designed for it - not having any luck finding sleeves that are made for the MBP w/ Retina Display, and I'm thinking the ones for the other 15" MBP will be a little too big. Any suggestions?

When trying to update getting (error surle error domain error-1100). It started yesterday, any help would be great. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a new macbook pro with retina display.
There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Note that if you are trying to download iTunes 10.7, that can be found here:

Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. The new iTunes that was announced is iTunes 11, which is also not yet available. -
i can no longer shoot directly into phaseone software - neihter version 6 or 7 - since i use my new macbook pro with retina display. pictures are not transfered from the camera into captureone. anyone else with this problem? any solutions?
My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

Installing Windows XP on a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
I just purchased a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and need to install Windows XP on it so that I may run 3 Windows programs. I have watched a few videos on the internet on how to do this through Boot Camp Assistant, and it says at one point to use the driver CD from Mac to install the drivers. I did not get any CD's with my new MacBook Pro. I also saw on some of these boards that said Boot Camp does not support Windows XP. The people at the Apple store said it can run Windows XP, so I have ordered an original version.
Question 1. Does my MacBook Pro with Retina Display running OS X version 10.8.3 able to run Windows XP?
Question 2. How do I install the drivers?Would this work? And also, what is the VM I need? Where do I get it?

When will Firefox have support for the new MacBook Pro with Retina display?
The new MacBook Pro with Retina Display has a 2880x1800 resolution and is not going to work well with the current version of Firefox. I am running Firefox 14 Beta; is there any news on when you will update Firefox to be compatible with new display?

I installed indesign CS5 on new macbook pro and keeps freezing with spinning wheel once the app opens. Is there an issue with OS Mav or font issue or a plist I can pull. All other Adobe products work.
Migration should never be done with any Adobe program.
If you have done Migration, you have to UNINSTALL first (if even possible) and then download Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and run that also. When this is done, restart your computer and install the programs from an original Adobe Installer.
Other question is, if your OS is supporting that version. You can try it, it is not officially supported, but it might work.
But CC will work, upgrade to CC2014 (without additional cost), use that as it is better anyway. -
I have the new macbook pro with retina and I am trying to back it up, with wd passport for mac and is telling me it is going to take 7days. Any Ideas? Im afraid that means there is something wrong with my hard drive. I have verified the disk and it says everthing is ok.
It seems to be a common problem that those drives don't perform well, at least not with Time Machine.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.

It's driving me crazy; I have a firewire, but it isn't compatible with the ports on the new macbook pro with retina display.

I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
******A true apple fan********Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

Configure New TM on a New Macbook pro with retina display Issue
I have bought a new New Macbook pro with retina display laptop (Lion moutain OS)and a new TM (2TB).
I have an internet router with wireless connect.
I plugged TM to the router with an ethernet cable.
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
then I choose Time capsule from WiFi as shown below:
Then the airport utility (version 6.1) opened and start configuring TM but it gives an expected error when it is starting to join the TM!!!!
I have reset the TM several time but with no hope.
PS: I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
I am struggling on this issue for weeks and I cannot yous TM on my macbook pro.
Help please.Time Capsule .. TC is the hardware box you bought.. Time Machine is the software you use in the Mac computer.. so what you generally refer to as TM is really TC.. !!

That is great.. you do not need to setup the Time Capsule at all then. It is already setup.. forget using 6.1 utility.. it is useless toy version.
Just use it.. open Time Machine and see if you can connect to the TC drive to do backup.. and to the wireless.

You are trying to connect with both wireless and ethernet at once.. This can mess things up. choose wireless or ethernet.. not both.
If you keep running into issues.. reset the TC.. I know yet again.
Set it up using SMB names.. for both the TC itself and wireless.
Then lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. use channel 1, 6, or 11 (13 in europe) and see how it goes. -
