Macbook works very slow and consumes a lot of battery power when closed
Hi@all
I hope someone of you can help me. My Mac crashed yesterday. I got a warning saying "there was a problem, your Mac will reboot" (I didn't get the exact words because it vanished quite fast and the MacBook rebooted itself). Since then my Mac is working very slow and freezes every few minutes. I looked at the CPU usage but this is always under 25% so there shouldn't be a programm that causes this problem.
In addition:
When I close it, it seems to go to sleep mode normally but is still consuming quite high amounts of battery power and get's warm. When I work with it the temperature stays normal.
I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2012) with 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 running with Mavericks.
It would be great if someone has an idea what could cause this kind of problems.
Thanks a lot in advance for your suggestions :-)sternblume,
for the high energy consumption in sleep mode, you could try resetting its System Management Controller.
For the slow working and freezing, you can try this: boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. -
I recently upgraded my three year old ipad to IOS 8 and it's working very slow and sometimes freezes. Can I go back to the old system?
No, downgrading the iOS version is not supported by Apple.
You could see if any of the following improve things :
- closing apps via the iPad's taskbar : iOS: Force an app to close.
- if having problems with Safari, clearing its history and data : Settings > Safari
- soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
- backing up (and copying any purchases over to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases) and restoring
- adjusting settings e.g. turning 'reduce motion' on (Settings > General > Accessibility), turning off 'background app refresh (Settings > General), turn off multitasking gestures (Settings > General)
- resetting back to factory defaults (after copying off purchases and any documents, photos etc that you want to keep) and then resyncing it back -

what can we do if the home button of my ipod is working very slow and if my ipod is still in warranty and by the way i have an ipod touch 4
If it is still under warranty take it to an Apple Store, or in any case call AppleCare (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 for list of international phone numbers) to see if they can help you. They may be able to help you with repairs if it is a physical problem with the home button.

Hello iPhone is working very slow and the code error and also iTunes very slow!!pls fix it .thank you
To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

i have the Iphone 3g, OS 4.3.2.1
My Phone is working terribly slow, and even i can not been able to close the running application
for closing application Every time i have to restart the phone
can any 1 help me solve this problem
with best regards,
prakashYou must have an iPhone 3GS then if its running 4.3.2
The iPhone 3G can only update to 4.2.1 iOS.
Reset the iPhone
Hold the top silver button and the home button (just below the display of the iPhone)
Do this at the same time for about 10 seconds until you see an Apple.
The iPhone then should take 1-3 minutes to restart and it should be fine -

Did you restart your computer after repairing permissions?
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
Your system info says:
MacBook Pro
Yet, in your postings you say: "MacBook" which is an entirely different computer. Typo? Are you in the correct community area? -
I recently updated from PC to a 2013 Macbook Air i5 with an upgraded 8GB of memory and I copied over my iTunes library. However, when I've been using iTunes for a few minutes (specifically after editing the info of one of more songs), it gets very laggy and slow. I then have to quit iTunes and re-open it for it to run smoothly again. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
Ignore all other sounds except at time frame 3 to 5 seconds in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0edpFdRZyFo
If your macbook is making that noise being woken from sleep mode, its normal and the noise of the laser tray. in the superdrive resetting, disk or no disk. (ignore the fact the video says 2010 macbook, superdrive makes the same sound).
Is that the noise you are hearing?
Ah yes, heres the SMS sensor sound > is that it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66xMoTEFH7Q
Thats a protection sound of the HD heads parking themselves to protect the HD from damage. Are you moving the Macbook at all when you hear the sound?

My MacBook is very slow and constantly has the spinning beach ball of death!!!
In the last couple if weeks my MacBook has suddenly slowed down a LOT. Sometimes it takes ages for it to boot up when I turn it on and at other times not as long. Then once I log in, as soon as I click on something, the spinning beach ball appears and won't go away so I have to force it to restart.
It runs a little bit faster in safe mode and if I log in as a guest user, but it's still relatively slow.
So far I have tried the following:
- starting in safe mode
- resetting PRAM
- turning off then pressing ctrl, option, left shift and the power button for 10 seconds then turn it back on
- repairing disk permissions
I've been told that it might be best to reformat my mac, but in order to do this I need to back up. I bought a Seagate Back Up Plus 1TB and tried to use time machine. After a while a message popped up saying "Time Machine Error. Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.". There is something on my hard drive, but I cant tell if my mac has fully backed up or not.
Any suggestions? How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?

My macbook is running slow and fan is running a lot
Hello,
My macbook pro is about 8 months old. This week after loading Office for Mac my machine's fan started running a LOT more at high speeds. I've looked in the activity monitor and there are many, many items running but none seem to be taking up a lot of memory or cpu activity. Today things really slowed down and although simple apps like Excel or Safari don't hang-up, they take forever to work. Any ideas?MacBook Pro

I suspect yopur computer will run much better if you uninstall it and pledge not to treat your Mac like it is a Windows computer.
WDSmartWare has slowed down my computers before so I no longer use it.
There may be other things at play but it will be hard to tell with Norton/Symantec in the way. -
Sql Developer is working very slow and it's making other applications slow
I am using SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40.
Sometimes it hangs. Sometimes the space key doesn't work in the sql sheet. It's overall performance is slow. And i have found it slows down other applications to open and close. I have 1GB RAM.
Please tell me is it the problem of SQL Developer or my PC?I have seen the "Automatically Check for Updates" option significantly slow down the start of up SQL Developer when it is switched on. You might want to see if switching that off (Tools > Preferences > Extensions) makes a difference to start up time.
SQL Developer's not insignificant memory usage may cause problems if it takes you beyond your physical memory, which typically slows down opening, closing and switching between applications. This is when you need to look at the task manager (assuming windows) as per the previous suggestion.

MacBook Pro very slow and junk mail after using wifi in Italy
After using different wifis in airports and hotels in Italy I am getting lots of junk mail in my inbox. Also my internet is extremely slow. I got a new router hoping that was the problem, and ATT checked our line to see if that was the problem. I 'm afraid I picked up some sort of virus. Is there an easy solution?
