My new MBA is taking 30s to go into sleep mode.

I have a new MBA13 so not had the chance to clog it up with loads of junk yet but it has started to take 30s to go into sleep mode.  I took it to the Genius Bar and they could not help other than to say they thought it must be some background process running that was stopping it.  I then read on hear to to a pmset -g log and look for items with times of 30000 and remove whatever they were.  The response I got was:
* Domain: applicationresponse.timedout
- Message: Kernel cupsd com.apple.powermanagement.applicationresponse.timedout 30000 ms
- Time: 17/05/2011 15:16:54 GMT+01:00
- Signature: cupsd
- UUID: 348D380F-4A44-4B7F-A113-3BDA08B5843E
- Result: Noop
- Response time (ms): 30000
which doesn't help me much.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Found it in another thread here.  It was a queued print job.  Looks like its a common problem and maybe a bug?  Once it was deleted, sleep was back to normal.

This is usually a sign that your iPod's headphones are not plugged in all the way.  Make sure that you cannot see any of the silver still showing from the headphone's plug.  You should hear a sort of popping/clicking noise when inserting the headphones letting you know that they have been fully seated.

  • NEW iBook and doesn´t wake up after sleep mode!

    Hi,
I´ve just started to use my new iBook G4 3 days ago, added my user information, and for a little while the wireless internet connection. Then, I closed the display to put it on sleep mode.....and.............it DOESN´T WAKE UP!!!
The hard disk seems to start up correctly (the fan is on and the disk noise is ok), the Caps Lock on the keyboard is on too, but as soon as I reboot the computer, a strange beep (like a phone tone!) starts up, then the sleep light signal flashes but the screen stays black.
I think that by now I´ve tried the most solutions (as far as I can having the black screen) I´ve read on the troubleshooting page and the recommendations posted in this Discussion chat... The iBook remains partially dead.
    Help!!!

ummm, even when its not plugged in to the power adapter? i find that when my ibook annoyingly doesnt wake from sleep, its usually because i connected/disconnected something while it was sleeping. even plugging in the power adapter seems to affect it. the way i fix it is to put it to sleep again, and then open the lid. its worked every time so far.
oh, and apprantly 'manually' putting the ibook to sleep does the trick (ie from the apple menu)

I managed to find out the triger for this problem:
if it goes to sleep -> in that 1-1.5 seconds untill its really sleeping, if I press anything (touchpad click, any key in the keyboard, power button, etc) it crashes, screen stays black, keyboard is still with backlights, but its none responding.
Can someone test this in his MBA ? I want to see if I'm not alone
I read some threads in the forums, but I think my problem is more unique than what I saw.
    Thanks for Reading. ,
    Ariel.

I have changed the pmset to the following and seems to have worked. I use hibernatemode 25 instead of the default 3. Make sure the duration settings for displaysleep, disksleep, sleep and standby are set logically, if not you will get error prompts.

  • IMac taking ten minutes to start up and sits at a blue screen for the most of the time. Also, when it goes into sleep mode I am unable to wake it up from it.

For the past few days now whenever I go to turn on my iMac it takes roughly ten or more minutes to boot up. For the portion of this time it sits on a blank blue screen. At first it comes up to a plain white screen which after about 30 seconds has the apple logo on it and the spinning circle for about a minute then to the blue screen, every time. Then, to top it off right when this started happening another problem began occurring. The computer is set to go into sleep mode after 15 minutes of no use. But, if it is in sleep mode for too long I am unable to get it out and I have to restart the entire computer, but if it is just for a few seconds into sleep or a minute I am able to get the screen to come back. I can still here the fan running and such so I don't know what is going on. I have searched through discussion after discussion. I have tried: repairing disks, repairing permissions, starting up in safe mode, and such. There has been no luck so far. I was wondering if anyone could offer insight into fixing at least one of these problems since my schooling relies on the computer.
By the way I this is an iMac 10.6.4 refurbished which we just bought about two weeks ago.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

My iMac i7 quad was having the same symptoms with the blue screen and long startup times a couple of months ago.  Apple Care told me to bring it in to the local Apple Store, and after some diagnostics, the hard drive required replacing.  It took one day to replace the hard drive and my iMac is running great. I only had the iMac for about 12 months when the drive needed to be replaced.  Not sure if that is your Mac's problem, but it was for mine.

  • New MBP 17 C2D - Machine loses power in sleep mode

Just got my machine so not a lot of usage, but I noticed it ran out of power yesterday. Charged overnight - it was in full charge at noon. Unplugged and used for a few minutes - put to sleep for an hour. Came back and it was at 92%. Used (lightly) for about an hour and battery went to 60%. Put machine to sleep, packed in suitcase and drove for 2.5 hours. Awoke machine and power down to 20%. Clearly either (1) it loses power in sleep or (2) it is waking up on its own and losing power. Only other thing I noticed is that I left parallels running internet explorer when machine put to sleep, and it had shut down (no message but app closed) when machine awoke.

Try cycling the battery a couple of times by normal usage and see what happens. I remember this happening to me once as well when I first got my replacement MBP battery (due to the massive recall of Sony batts). After cycling the battery a couple of times by normal usage, it held its charge quite well I must say.

  • Two of me as admin users in new MBA causes permissions issues after setup and migration

Normally I migrate to new Macs via firewire target mode. Flash forward to a new MacBook Air with no firewire.
I think I made a mistake in migration. I began setup as a new owner of the brand new MBA, then migrated my existing G4 PowerBook contents using Time Machine via USB.
The end result is that I have two accounts that represent me on the new MBA; the one I was guided into setting up when I first powered the MBA up, and the old user account from the PB. Although both are admin accounts, I have access to only some files when logged in as either admin. I tried repairing permissions, but no go. It also seems to hide files from the other account when searching in Spotlight.
It seems the only fix may be to do this all over again without setting up a new account in the MBA, but is that even possible? What would be the best way out of this mess so that I have one admin account with access to new files created under the new user and old files from the old PB user, as well as full permissions for all documents?

I concur with Colin: start over and use Setup Assistant. I used Migration Assistant once and it took me a week to clear up the mess. Although the two are basically the same process, by the time you use MA you already have an account established - hence the duplications - whereas SA moves over and creates one account.
    And, for Colin:
looks like the OP inserted an impage/jpg of his post?

  • Printer now will not come out of sleep mode with new MiFi 5510L

I have a HP 3522 All In One wireless printer networked via my MiFI router that goes into sleep mode as it is supposed to after a set period of idle time but the only way I can get it back on line/wake up is to unplug it and plug it back in.  While asleep, none of the buttons work and all print jobs fail because the 'printer cannot be found'.  I never had this problem until I upgraded from an older MiFi unit to the 5510L.
I am using a MacBook Pro and MacBook Air both running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

KSutherland, I'm so sorry this is occurring with your phone. I understand how frustrating this can be when you're trying to use your phone and have to pull the battery. I researched information about your phone that have been reported by customers and didn't find this as a known issue. I also show the Bionic received a software update on December 9, 2011. I recommend updating your phone to the new software, which can assist with. I listed a link below with information and instructions for the update.
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/system_update/droid_bionic.html
Additionally, I would also like to recommend clearing the cache and browser history. This can help the device from having slow functionalities. The steps are below:
From a Home screen, select the App menu (located in the lower right).
    Select Browser.
If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
    Select Menu.
    Select More.
    Select Settings.
Within settings you can clear the following :
--Clear all, which clears all deletes history, cache, cookies, form data and passwords
--Clear cache, which clears visited website content stored on the device. The cache enables the browser to download only the content that has changed since the last time a website was visited. Since the browser only downloads changed content, pages are loaded faster.
--Clear history, which clears a listing of URLs (website addresses) that have been recently visited.
--Clear cookie data, which clears some cookies contain customized preference and logon information for previously visited websites. Once deleted, the website may prompt for this information again.
Pleas let us know if the above steps work for you.
    Have a good day.

  • My Macbook (2006) with a new battery empties its battery overnight in sleep mode, why?

It's now been six months that I can't use sleep mode if my macbook is unplugged because the battery gets empty overnight. I had to replace my battery three months ago and I thought this would solve my problem. But, although my new battery lasts for over 4 hours, it is completely empty after a night in sleep mode. I checked the Internet but I found nothing. I've tried to reset the energy management system, but it did not good.
The mac really goes into sleep mode (I can see the brightness of the white light change when the lid is closed).
My macbook has a dual boot Mac os Lion and Windows 7 with bootcamp and the problem is the same whether sleeping under Mac OS or under Windows 7.
I tried turning bluetooth and wifi off, but it doesn't change anything.
    I hope someone can help.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you for your answer,
I tried to log out and put the computer to sleep, but I still lost 40% of the battery in 10 hours (I reckon it is a little less than when I'm not logged out).
I reset the SMC again, no result either.
The computer does look like it is sleeping, the display is off, the light is changing and if I touch a key of the keyboard, it turn itself back with the sound of the CD check.
Does my answer help the diagnosis?
Would reinstall the whole computer solve my problem?
    Thanks!

  • Why don't new imac display driver support rotate into portrait mode

why don't new 24 in imacs support display rotate into portrait mode? they have ati radeon HD 2600 chipset!

OK - I figured it out. Apple's 10.4 display driver does not externalize the rotate parameter for the new IMAC alum 24inch display - even though the ATI video card supports rotation.
However, the SwitchResX utility (search on google) will switch the display into rotate modes 90/180/270. I tried it and it works in 90 degree rotate.
Once you install SwitchResX, you have to do 2 steps. First, open the SwitchResX control panel and under its Menus tab, further enable its taskbar widget to allow "Display Orientation" settings. Second, then use SwitchresX taskbar widget (now displaying a new "Rotation" parameter setting for Standard - 90 - 180 - 270.
In addition (obviously ... for safety reasons) you will probably want to attach the device to a VESA standard display mount that allows safe physical rotation of the IMAC. Apple sells for $29 the VESA Mount Adapter Kit for 24-inch iMac. This will allow attachment of the IMAC to a VESA mount. (I am now researching VESA mounts).
    Cheers!

  • HT4889 I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. How do I now 'migrate' all the files from both accounts into one to save myself having two accounts, both of which are me? Help?

I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. I have read that I probably should not have skipped migration in the initial set up and the problem would have been avoided but, alas, here I am. Does anyone know how I can 'migrate' all the files from one of the accounts that has been created to the other, so then I can delete it and have a single user on the computer seeing as I am the only person using it? I have read starting again, if this is the way to go, where is the best place to start 'starting again'?

Yes definitely should see it but its not coming up (I don't think) when I log out of 2nd user and into the main account. Opening finder in the 2nd account, I can obviously find the public folder because thats where I dropped all the files, but when in the main account, it can't be found. The only public folder that comes up is the folder for that account (main account) and it does not display files I'm looking for. Frustrating....
EDIT: Have found it through a round-about way but all music and photo and movie etc files have a red stop sign disallowing them from being transferred. Can you guess what the next question will be?

  • How can I get rid of the accumulation of the backups in the Macintosh HD of my new MBA 13.3'' ?

How can I get rid of the accumulation of the backups in the Macintosh HD of my new MBA 13.3'' ?

My best advice is that you stop worrying about the backups that TimeMachine is making on your MBA. First, these local backups are only made when TimeMachine should perform a backup but your computer isn't connected to TimeMachine. Once you reconnect your computer to TimeMachine it makes a backup and the local backups are deleted. Second, TimeMachine stops making local backups when your free drive space dips below 80%. So the local backups aren't going to take over your computer.

  • Install 2nd copy of aperture on new MBA

apologies upfront if this has been answered, I did a search but could not find the answer.
I have been an Aperture user since 2008, I have the original 2.x version DVD as well as the 3.0 upgraded DVD, and since that time all my updates are managed electronically. I'm running my library on a MacPro.
I got a new MBA (love it) and I would like to install Aperture, more for casual use on trips.
The Appstore doesn't know that I have a license of Aperture, so it wants me to pay.
The 3.0 upgrade DVD doesn't install as it is looking for a 2.0 installation.
I have not tried yet to install 2.0 and am afraid that won't work either.
What's my best option to install 3.x?

Download the Aperture 3 Trial version from this link:
    Aperture 3.1 Trial
Then update it immediately from the Apple  menu> Software update, launch it, and enter your serial number(s).  You will need both, the Aperture 2 and the upgrade serial numbers.
