My new shuffle won't work with my operating system

I was really pleased to be given a new shuffle for my birthday, but it won't work with my operating system. I feel disgusted and cheated; I have been using macs for years and don't see why I should have to buy a new one in order to use a piece of Apple technology. It's not good enough to say that the operating system requirements are clearly stated, as the person who bought me the shuffle didn't know that. I am so furious that I am thinking of going back to pcs next time I buy. Apple really should get their act together, because various forums I have consulted suggest that a lot of other people feel the same.

Feel better now?
We are all users here just like yourself so we cannot do anything for you besides making some logical suggestions to you. So if the person had bought you some 3rd party software that only worked with Leopard and/or Snow Leopard would by be just as furious? Just curious.
You don't have to buy a "new one" to use your new Shuffle, just upgrade your OS. Are you using a PowerPC or Intel Mac Mini? If the latter just go buy a copy of Snow Leopard, install it on your computer and download the latest iTunes. Problem solved. If it is a PowerPC look around and find and install a copy of Leopard.

  • New Shuffle won't work with itunes, but can't download newest version.

I just got a new shuffle and when I plug it into my computer it tells me I need Itunes version 10. When I try to install Itunes version 10 it says 'Couldn't open "Install iTunes.pkg". This package type requires Mac OS X 10.5'. What do I need to do to get everything working?

Yeah, I just bought an iPod Shuffle and have run into this same issue. I don't want to upgrade to iTunes 10 because I did so on my work computer and am dealing with a headache of an issue with it (sort of off-topic, but it's doing that rapid flashing thing when loading in a CD, ultimately not recognizing it or letting me download the songs, unless I turn off the feature that downloads the song titles automatically, which is fairly important to me). I did some searching around here and found it's a common issue with no solution at the moment. I definitely don't want to deal with that on my personal computer, so I've stuck with iTunes 9. But now that means I can't use the Shuffle I just purchased. How frustrating. Any solution?

  • My HP Photosmart 385 printer won't work with my operating system - Windows Vista Ultimate. Why not?

Is there a driver that I can dowload so my HP Photosmart 385 printer will work with my Windows Vista Ultimate operating system?

    Hey Alyssa426,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Since the installation disk does not support Windows 8.1, I would suggest trying to download, and install the drivers directly from the HP Support website. I have included a link to the 'HP Deskjet F4200/F4224 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver'. Once the software is downloaded, open the software, and follow through the on screen instructions for installation.
Please let me know the outcome of installing the software.
    Thank you.

  • My new iPod won't work with iTunes 6 but...

Is it safe to get iTunes 7 yet?
Because I tried it before but it made the music dodgy.
So I eventually got 6 back, but it won't work with my new iPod.
    Help?

I also had problems with iTunes 7 when it first came out, but 7.0.2 is working for me and seems to have fixed a lot of the problems. It's worth a try if you need iTunes 7 for your new iPod.

  • Does New MacBook Pro 15" Come With 2 Operating Systems?

I apologize for my ignorance, I haven't used a Mac in some time and my knowledge of computers is very limited.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" model and it came with 3 disks. Besides the "Applications Install DVD", one of the other disks says "Mac OS Install DVD" and the other one says "Mac OS X Snow Leopard".
Am I to believe that this laptop came with 2 operating systems, or two versions of the same system, and if so, why?
I'm thinking Snow Leopard is the latest version and if that's the case, why would they even include the other one?
    I'm so confused, lol.
Thanks so much in advance and again, please pardon my ignorance.

I did some research and I guess when I need it, I'll be asked to download it.
    Is this right?
    yes.
One more question, please. Can I give the Snow Leopard disk to my daughter to install on her Mac, or is that taboo?
if you bought a regular SL DVd then this is not allowed. you can buy a family pack and use it on up to 5 computers in the same household.
    Thanks again you guys.

  • New AE Won't Work With Old Verizon DSL Modem

I'm trying to set up a new AE station for a friend. She had an Airport station that worked fine. The DSL modem is like 6 years old or something. Of course I've tried calling Verizon, but am on hold forever. Is it possible the modem is too old? I've looked at ports, all settings I can think of, but nothing. I've set up as many as a hundred of these, so have some experience. Just hoping for some feedback 'till I talk to them. It's PB 12" with 10.4.3 running. It's brand new. When I put the old station back, no problem. Any help is appreciated.

With the old base station connected open Airport Admin Utility and "Save a copy as..." something. Connect the new one and import that configuration. If it is really old that won't work but it is worth a try.
Is PPPoE needed for the DSL connection?
Have you powered everything down and slowly brought them back (modem, AE, and computer)? Sometimes it takes a while for an ISP to recognize a new network device as valid.

  • New scanner won't work with G5, Intel Core Duo

I bought a Brother MFC 420cn all-in-one. The printer/copier works great, but I can't get the scanner to work with the Mac. The scanner driver comes with a bundled software "Presto Page Manager 4.0," made by New Soft, Inc. New Soft blames Apple for their new Intel products. They told me to contact Brother. Brother doesn't have an update that works with the new Intel Mac. Apple doesn't have a solution. I've spent hours being kicked around, and nobody has a solution. How can I get this scanner to work with my Mac? Anybody else out there have this problem concerning compatibility problems with the new Intel Macs and periferal hardware/software out there?

    Hi Hefdog,
Considering what I presume are fairly radical differences in the architecture of the new Intel Macs, it is amazing how well most things work. And since the Intel machines are obviously here to stay, I guess it’s only a matter of time before all vendors provide compatible drivers etc.
Have you tried to run your new scanner from Photoshop? I found the ‘Acquire’ function worked, even before installing other drivers. And you’re not missing much in Presto Page Manager, unless it’s been improved considerably since an earlier version!

  • I have an old MAC using OS 10.5 (does not have Intel processor). I need a new printer, but i cannot find one that will work with such an old operating system. Is there a new printer that will work with this old system?

I have an old IMAC using 10.5, and it cannot use any newer operating system. I need a new printer, but I cannot find one that is compatible with this old system.
Is there a new printer out there that will work with 10.5?

  • Wi-fi won't work with either Opera Mini 5 or Mobil...

This has been driving me nuts. My phone connects to wi-fi networks just fine, and wi-fi works fine with the Nokia browser. But I cannot get either Opera Mini 5.1 or Opera Mobile 10 to do it. I set my access points to "always ask", and then select the wi-fi network when the browser asks.
Opera does however work fine going through the cell phone network.
I have tried reinstalling, and also searched through all the phone settings. Same problem regardless of what I try.
    The error message is:
    "Connection Failed
    Content blocked by operator"
What does that mean "operator". Just exactly WHO is the Operator??? It can't be the wireless network, because no wireless network works with Opera--period. Could it be the cell phone company? If so, why would they allow me to use Opera on the cell network but not allow it on wi-fi?
So I called my provider (a small company recently bought by AT&T, but still operating separately). They told me they are not blocking wi-fi on third-party browsers, and it's probably a issue with the Opera software.
I hope someone here can shed some light on this.
    Symbian S60 5th ed., Nokia 5530XM, firmware up-to-date

Well I can get it to work by doing this sequence:
    1. Use the wi-fi tool to connect to the network
    2. Open the Nokia browser, select the wi-fi network, and browse to a web page.
    3. Close the Nokia browser.
    4. Open Opera and select the wi-fi network.
    5. Browse ...
This method has worked over the past day. I discovered it by accident.
Isn't there someone who can explain why I have to go through this process to use Opera with wi-fi on my 5530XM ?

You can write external procedure on C and call it from PL/SQL code. Maybe you can use also DBMS_PIPE, but I never used it.

  • Shuffle won't work with tiger

My 8 year old daughter saved up and bought an iPod shuffle so she could listen to her own music and story tapes in bed or wherever. To my shock we could not upload anything to it from our IMAC, not PC, IMAC! The problem is that our Aluminum Intel Imac is 4 years old and runs Tiger. You need iTunes 10 to upload to a shuffle and iTunes 10 is only available for Leopard. This is disgraceful and a complete contradiction to the whole marketing drive of Apple stating that Macs 'just work'. It seems I can get iTunes 10 on a 6 year old PC with XP but not on a perfectly fine, tiger iMac. I have rung Apple who told me I should have read the specs of the shuffle, there is no complaint phone number or email address, only a feedback email address that doesn't respond. What are we supposed to do, buy Snow Leopard at a further expense of over £100? Tiger has been working perfectly, my iMac is a brilliant piece of kit. Sadly I may be forced to replace it with a PC when I next choose to buy a computer. I love Apple products but this blantant marketing ploy to keep you upgrading will most likey cause them to lose a lifetime customer. Has anyone resolved this issue without having to make an otherwise pointless upgrade?

Download the spotify desktop client for Tiger and it should work. You need to plug the ipod shuffle with itunes 10 first (i used my wife's macbook) and then just erased it and synced it with the spotify client.

  • The new version won't work with my AVG-antivirus I had to uninstall

My problem is the exact opposite of the other people. AVG is just fine, it was the latest version of Firefox I deleted after it told me my AVG anti-virus program wasn't compatible now.
I want to re-install my old version because I completely uninstalled it from my programs list.

AVG has been working hard to keep up with Firefox's rapidly advancing version numbers. Support for Firefox 11 was released in Service Pack 1 according to this post from the AVG forums (yesterday): [http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=196419 AVG Forums - Weekly Overview: 14/2012].
However, you do need the latest version in order to benefit from these new patches. If you aren't already running a 2012 version, the first step would be to upgrade now.

  • New iPhone won't work with Honda Fit

My old iPhone 4 crashed and I just got a new one to replace it (same exact kind).  My old one, all I had to do to play music in my car (2009 Honda Fit) was open my RadioPup app and plug it into the USB port.  With the new one I plug it in and get the message "This accessory is not supported by iPhone."  I'm not sure why this is happening, is it the new phone or the software update that just happened?  Any ideas?

    Hello antp1982,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your wife's iPhone 6 and her Honda Civic. If you continue to have issues connecting to the built-in stereo/comms features, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
