My New T500's LCD(LED) Has a Light Pixel

I bought a T500 in lenovo's website and received it today. Without further examination, I found a obvious light pixel in the LCD. I'm very sad about this.I know lenovo promised that customer could chage their LCD when they found 3 or more defective pixels whenever within the warranty period. But after all, this is a brand new computer, it make me so unhappy. May I change another machine?

You can always ask support.  I prefer to buy my ThinkPads via phone from a Lenovo sales person.  That way I have a (admittedly transient) personal connection, and someone to ask (beg) to take a machine back.  I also find that a live sales person usually has access to additional discounts that don't show up on the website.
Otherwise, you could go with the no-fault return, take the 15% hit, and see if the next one is perfect.
ajkula66 is correct that Lenovo's bad pixel policy is better than most.  That said, out of 10 recent laptop purchases, 7 of which were ThinkPads, I have only one with a bad pixel.  There's one stuck on in my Acer Aspire One screen, but for $250, I don't think I care.
I do feel your pain.  If there was a bad pixel on my T400, i would probably pick at it until I had a hole in the screen...

  • Your Suggestions on Adding External LCD / LED Monitors to MacBook Pro?

My current work station is a PowerPC G4 Dual 867Mhz with dual 19" CRT displays. I use this for design work (Adobe Illustrator); photo restoration (Photoshop); & online sales.
I was down to my last two CRT monitors, and wanted to perhaps start porting some of the graphic intense work to a faster computer so I bought this MacBook Pro:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP499
I have not actually had a chance to use the MacBook Pro - it and all the accessories are still sealed - I couldn't afford the down time to set it up.
I am wanting to add a external monitor to the MacBook Pro that would be suitable for detailed design work with accurate color, true blacks, and the ability to be correctly calibrated. Since I may be still doing work on the G4 with software that will not run on the MacBook Pro I'd like to perhaps buy 3 matching monitors , 2 to replace my crt units and 1 for the MacBook, so that I can closely match the design output between the G4 and MacBook Pro.
I briefly tried a inexpensive LCD TV with a PC hookup on the G4 to get some idea of how an lcd would look. The LCD TV had a native resolution of 1440 X 960, which is a 3:2 aspect ratio, but that resulted in designs elements being distorted (i.e., squares look like rectangles). In 4:3 mode the TV did not distort the design elements, but the picture was not crisp / sharp and appeared soft. From what I've read this is because the lcd, unlike a crt, can't correctly emulate resolutions other than the native resolution built into the screen (i.e., its software guesswork). I also did not like the fact than in 4:3 mode it left black areas on the right and left edges of the screen.
I typically work in a 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 1024 X 768, but a higher resolution of say 1600 X 1200 would be o.k. So what are your suggestions as to finding a lcd / led monitor that has a 4:3 aspect ratio? So far I've found limited information on what appear to be old monitors - there's one on Dell's site; for example, that says it has 1600 x 1200 native resolution, but a review also says its the same monitor they've been making for 5 years (besides I don't think I'd like the idea of hooking a Dell into my Mac). Found a few references to Lacie and NEC.
I really don't understand the monitor manufacturers, including Apple, that claim their monitors are for design work, when they don't offer native a 4:3 aspect ratio. How exactly am I to complete designs when circles are ovals and squares are rectangles?

"Take a flash drive with some representative PDF files saved from Illustrator to your nearest Apple Store or Apple reseller and ask for a demonstration using one of Apple's beautiful 27" 2560 x 1600 monitors. It would replace both of your 1024 x 768 CRTs with lots of additional desktop real estate to spare."
    1. Well, actually no since I do not have fixed 1024 x 768 crts since crts do not have fixed resolutions. I can easily set each monitor to a variety of other resolutions including 1600 x 1200. Actually the Apple display would be a step down in total working area if I used the largest common resolution of 1792 x 1344 and certainly not worth the extra cost for the space gained if working at 1600 x 1200.
    2. Unfortunately the display requires 10.6, which does not work on a G4 Dual 867Mhz. It would not even work on my MacBook Pro that I've not had a chance to use yet as it comes with 10.5. Also, 10.6 drops supports for PowerPC emulation so that means buying hundreds of dollars in new software. I use Apples only, but one thing I hate about the company is what many perceive is their "elitist attitude" toward their users - do they really think most people in the real world have so much money that in order to use Apple's new 27" display that they have to go out and spend more than the display costs on updating their computer and software. I am not a zombie fanboy willing to buy anything just because it has Apple on it.
    3. Like most people I do not live by an Apple store or a Apple reseller, even the local Best Buy does not carry Apple computers in their store because the retail space does not justify the resulting sales (not that I would buy anything there anyway as they are over priced). I am really not interested in driving several hundred miles to the nearest store.
    4. For a $1,000 I expect a monitor to offer a native 4:3 (1600 x 1200) aspect ratio - certainly Apple knows that this is the preferred working environment of many CAD and graphic users but they chose not to offer this in the display, thus the Apple display is really seems geared toward pop corn munching movie watching consumers.
    5. This display is not actually made by Apple, its probably LG or one of their other suppliers.

  • New T500 Grinding Noise from Hard Drive

My brand new T500 Hard Drive makes off and on very faint grinding noise. The grinding happens for 6 times and then goes away for 5-10 seconds and then happens again and so on.
Is this normal or is my new hard drive defective, and should I ask Lenovo for a replacement hard drive?
I ran the lenovo hard drive diagnostic tool and it did not find any issues.

Fortunately Dell has released firmware update DE17 for the following Seagate models that seems to work for my Lenovo:
    ST9120411ASG
    ST9160411ASG
    ST9200423ASG

  • How do you migrate ThinkVantage Location Profiles to a new T500 ?

I copied my old ThinkPad R60 to a USB drive and want to bring over the ones I had to my new T500. Where can I find those and where do I put them on my new machine? The old unit has been cleared and reloaded for a new user.

Reinstalling the extensions from scratch is the only safe way to do it. Dreamweaver extensions rarely consist of a single file that can simply be copied. They install or update multiple files, often if different folders.

  • LCD/LED Monitor Problems

I have just purchased a new 2010 Mac Mini and an LG E2240S LCD - LED backlit monitor. I have this connected using a Mini DisplayPort > VGA adapter.
I have resolution set at 1920x1080 at 50Hz which seems the best setting.
The problem is everything seems very grainy and text especially looks very sharp and jagged around the edges.
Any ideas what would cause this?

The monitor should have a function that is sometimes called tuning. See if that improves the picture.

  • K430-31092SU new out of the box has no audio.

K430-31092SU new out of the box has no audio. The real ports for audio (green port on back) headphones and microphone (black and pink ports front or back) when a device is plugged in it does not pop up on the task bar. Under the Manage Audio Devices > Sounds, the level meter indicates sound is playing but nothing comes through the speakers or headphones. The video graphics card is connected to a ViewSonic 1080P LED monitor with built in speakers via the HDMI cable. Sound comes through the monitor speakers when selected but cannot get any sound from the green audio port internal to the motherboard. Tried unplugging the HDMI cable connected the VGA, same results, no sound from the speakers.
Tech support remotes in and does everything I have already done with settings and drivers so they determine that the motherboard has a hardware failure and the machine will have to be returned. The tech was very easy to communicate with and I was given a case number to talk to the After Purchase Department and they say it will take 4-5 business days for them to contact me to start the process of returning the PC. WHAT? Start the process!
Every third day I have called Lenovo and every time they say it will be 4-5 days for someone to contact me. The last time I called they told me someone would call that day. Needless to say I have not heard from anyone.
Will reply later as to when I get instructions on returning the defective K430 and get a replacement. The Lenovo experience so far has been extremely disappointing.

I always wanted a lenovo and got one couple years ago and was very disappointed at their battery.  For a netbook they wanted 178 bucks - still do.  They are looking heavily to their bottom line in my mind.  I bought a desktop shortly after and had pains plus but it wasn't all their fault.  I just bought an all in one and it will definitely be the last unless I seem them turn around soon.  This board is full of people with problems and no solutions.
Mine, the touch screen is incompatible with windows 8 yet lenovo was pushing upgrading to windows 8.  Not wise in my mind but that is the way they are functioning right now.  I called about another problem and was told three times someone would call within the day - never happened.
I must say the older two are great machines after I got them running smoothly though little to no help from lenovo.

  • A question about my new T500...

Hello all -- I am new here, and have a quetion about my new T500:
My new machine is a Lenovo Thinkpad T500, with Vista 64 bit installed. It is a pretty neat machine, as far as I can tell so far. This is my first laptop and my first experience with Vista after years of XP. My general computer knowledge is somewhat limited.
So here is my question. All have in the machine so far is Vista and Microsoft Office Home and Student, along with whatever Lenovo preinstalls. I plan to install Photoshop CS4 and Capture NX but have not done so yet, nor have I downloaded any photos or anything. When I go into "Computer" from the start menu it indicates that I only have 99 gigs free in my 160 gig hard drive! I did a quick add up of the visible programs installed in Vista and I get only about 1.2 gigs worth, and there seems to be about another 1.5 gigs of utilities in one partition. What could be occupying the other 58 or so gigabytes??? Vista cannot be this big, can it? How can I find out what is on the HD other than the visible installed programs?
Any help with this mystery will be very much appreciated. I am mystified!
    Many thanks in advance...

I am sure this has been decribed many times ... but here it goes anyway
If the actual hard drive (*not* partition!) is 160 gig (written on it), first of all it will only have about 154Gb actual space to be used by the computer - just the thing how manufacturers count those bytes.
Lenovo has a restore partition, I don't remember the exact size (I have deleted it), but it would be around 15Gb if I remember correctly. You also have a startup partition probably (1.5Gb). You can find out what partitions you have in Computer Management. Just open Vista start menu, type in Computer Management (into the search box at the bottom), then open Storage --> Dist Management. Here you will see the partitions. You can read around these forums and other places on the internet how you can get rid of the restore partition if you really do not want it. But don't go just deleting it right away.
Vista x64 takes about a good 20 gigs on your hard drive. Do remember, that because Vista 64 includes WOW64 (Windows on Windows) that means that many things are essentially duplicated: once for the 32 bit applications and once for the 64 bit applications. That is why Vista x64 is larger than Vista x86 (32bit). However, you need x64 if you have 4Gb of RAM. However also remember, that when you look at the C:\WINDOWS folder, that inside there are also "symlinks" to files. So if you just count everything you will get a bigger size than what it actually takes up.
You have hibernation enabled (by default), so if you have 2Gb of RAMs thats another 2Gb, if you have 4Gb of RAM, thats another 4Gb of space.
The paging file by default takes up a variable amount of space, could be anything between 3-6Gb (if you have 4Gb of RAM).
So that's about it.  If you add those up (in case of 4Gb of RAM) you get about 46-47Gb of space, at least. Plus any applications and utilities, drivers, etc you have. Lenovo systems by default come with quite a few things.
Windows has probably system restore enabled, which eats up yet again hard drive space.
You can turn things off and tune your system if you really feel that you are running out of space. But until then I would not worry too much about it. You can find many guides around the internet on how to affect various things I referenced above.
If you want to see hidden files (like paging file and hibernation file) you can turn that feature on in Vista. That will certainly help you see most of the things that take up space (not everything). You can find many tutorials by googling, such as
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial130.html
    Hope this helps

  • My T61 LCD monitor has blue tint background

I just got my new T61 unit with wxga+ LCD monitor two days ago, but I found the LCD monitor has blue tint background. What this means is: whenever I view a webpage or any software interface that has white background, the white color is not pure white, instead it is blue-ish white - blue tint.
I wonder if this is normal for T61 LCD monitor (wxga+)?
    Thank you!
    Tony

I've read this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=30, but I don't see 'Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip' option under Storage controller in the Device Manager. Mine shows Microsoft iSCI initiator. I wonder how to resolve the blue screen issue, or do I have to send my laptop back for repair?
    Please advise.
    Thank you!

  • How do I sync my Ipod to a new library after my computer has crashed?

How do I sync my Ipod to a new library after my computer has crashed?

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, matching the device content to the content on the computer, except purchased content as mentioned above.  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing):
    - Senuti - http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/
    - Phoneview - http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/
    - MusicRescue - http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/products/musicrescue/ - Mac & Windows
    - Sharepod (free) - http://download.cnet.com/SharePod/3000-2141_4-10794489.html?tag=mncol;2 - Windows
    - Post by Zevoneer: iPod media recovery options - https://discussions.apple.com/message/11624224 - this is an older post and many of the links are also for old posts, so bear this in mind when reading them.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
In general do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining a backup of your media on a computer backup.

  • My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?

My question is about the 'Restore Backup' option on iTunes (Not 'Restore iPhone'). So, if I click on Back Up Now, then 'Restore Backup', would that go through the process of erasing everything on my phone as new then restore whatever iTunes has backed up?
I do not want this to happen, as with previous experience iTunes doesn't restore a mirror of what the iPhone was when it was backed up as is the case with iCloud backups.
What I am trying to do is, as I've found a method on Youtube, there is an application where I can delete all the multimedia saved in my 'iMessages' so clear up some space. As doing that manually through the phone would take a lifetime. The method is to backup on iTunes, then using the backup created, importing that into the application then deleting the messages through that then restoring the phone using that amended backup.
So back to my question, would restoring through 'Restore Backup' just restore the backup internally or would it flush the entire phone and then restore the backup? And if it does so, what would be lost in the restore?
    Thank you all,
    Fahmid

iCloud should overwrite your phone with the data stored in your account, preserving your newer data.  However, to be sure I would go to Settings>iCloud and turn data syncing to Off before restoring the backup.  Then, after restoring the backup, turn the data syncing back to on, and when prompted about Merging with iCloud, choose Don't Merge.  This will ensure that the data in your iCloud account overwrites the data on your phone (which is your goal).
Also, you don't sync text messages with iCloud so you will end up losing your more recent messages when they are overwritten by the backup.
