My new Time Capsule 500gB flashes amber and I can't get in contact

I can't get in contact with my brand new Time Capsule!
A network is running, both wireless and ethernet. Both my Apple TV and the desctop PC (which i'm using now) can go on the internet, but I can't make any changes using Airport.
When startin Airport it finds the Time Capsule, and it seems like it also has been updated, but when I try to go "Next" or use "Manual" button I got an error after a few seconds with the code 10057. An error occured when it tried to get in contact with the wireless unit.
It still flashing amber, what can I do?
I hope some of you can give me an advice?
Best regards

  • I am using my time capsule to back up and I can not get the green light, what should I do

    Hi everyone
I posted a quesiton yesterday and when I got up this morning the time machine / capsule (not sure of the difference) had unlocked itself!. The other problem persists and that is that the amber light continues to flash and I can not get the macbook to talk to the time thingy.
Obviously I am not very good at these things and I live in a country where I-systems knows about as much as I do!
    Thank you
    Gillian

So you have never actually used the airport utility.. you were almost there.
    You posted this picture.
    Screen+Shot+2013-03-15+at+13.20.55.png
Click edit button on that page.
Voila.. airport utility in all its manual setting glory.
Or install a decent utility.. 5.6.
This is not required but to my eyes.. it is much easier to understand and has more useful tool items than later versions.. which are made iOS pretty picture like.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • My time capsule is blinking orange and I can not get it to stop.  I have done a hard reset and unplugged it but it continues to blink orange.  This all started because the time capsule stated it was delayed in backing up so I thought I would try to reset.

My time capsule stated that it was delayed in backing up so I decided to do a hard reset on the time capsule.  Now I am getting a blinking orange light and I can not get it to go back to green.  I have had to hard wire the modem into my computer for connection.  I need some help please.  Thank you.

Assuming it is not simply broken, a slowly flashing LED probably means the TC is not receiving an IP address from the modem. Make sure you power down your modem whenever you change what is connected to it.
Having to unplug the Ethernet cable from the TC and plugging it in to your Mac repeatedly so that you can communicate is tedious enough, but endeavor to add the power cycle exercise to that action.

  • Time capsule status flashes amber

    Hey Fellow Users,
Just the other day I replaced my modem and since that my Time capsule is flashing Amber!! Do I need to install my time capsule again with the CD due to having a new modem? I have tried unplugging the caspule and it's still amber.
Your help would be much appreciated!
    HunkaLove

Have performed the complete power cycle.
Turned modem off & time capsule. Then started them up one by one waiting a minute!
Nothing has changed though, my time capsule is still flashing amber & when I enter the Time Capsule preferences it tells me that the back up disc is unavailable!
My Airport does not have an option for manual set up! My internet connection is all fine though! It is the time capsule not recognising the new modem!
I tired connecting an Ethernet cable from my mac to my time capsule, switched the wireless off, opened up Airport Utility again & no manual setup!!
Can I re install the time capsule or will I lose what I currently have on there?
I will go into Apple on Monday to get the issue resolved!
Thank you for all your time & help!

  • HT3275 the light on my time capsule keeps flashing orange and green. I know it is supposed to be green how can I get the green light to stay on

the light on my time capsule keeps flashing orange and green. I know it is supposed to be green how can I get the green light to stay on

Orange and green flashing is unfortunately a failure indication.
How old is the Time Capsule?

  • Time Capsule does not work and i can not not mount it anymore, even after follow all apples instructions at FAQs

My Time Capsule suddenly stopped working, and i can not even mount it anymore. When i ask for a backup, the time machine keeps looking for a disk with no success.
I tried all the FAQs suggestions:
    1) I change the name of the disk using Airport Utility;
    2) I updated it using Airport Utility.
Now i can not even try to erase the disk because after to update it, the disk in not listed anymore.
Now i can just read a "internal disk needs repair" message. that wasn't there before, having in mind that the first response was "there is no space at the disk for a backup".
    What can i do?

    The TC has a fault..
Power it down and let it cool off overnight. Power it on again the next morning and check if it works.. no luck factory reset.. do all the tests quickly as you have 10-20min before the Temp rises to kill it again.
No luck it is dead.. give us the actual model number.. A1xxx from the base.
How old is it?? Beyond 3years they do become dodgy.

  • New Time Capsule: Assign DHCP address and backup to USB disk?

    Hi all,
I am setting up a new Time Capsule and have two questions:
    - I am successfully backing up my MacBook Pro to the internal TC disk. I like loooong backup histories, so I would like to backup my iMac to a separate Time Machine disk attached to the TC via USB. I have googled and not found anyone saying it can be done. I have attached a USB disk and tried to configure TimeMachine to see it, but it is invisible. Is this even possible?
    - I want to assign a specific IP address to a Linux server (Ubuntu Jaunty) on the internal network of the Time Capsule. I can get a "random" DHCP address assigned, but I cannot get a specific one assigned. I have tried to create DHCP Reservations for the Linux box using both its MAC address as well as the DHCP client ID (preferred). No matter what, I still get the random DHCP address. On the linux box, I have made sure to set the Client ID as well as removing the old leases file. Any hints?
Thanks in advance for any help on either front!

...so I would like to backup my iMac to a separate Time Machine disk attached to the TC via USB.
That is not possible with Time Machine.
Time Machine will backup any files residing on your Mac or residing on any disk connected via USB or FireWire directly to your Mac.
Time Machine will NOT backup files residing on a network drive like the USB drive connected to a Time Capsule.
I want to assign a specific IP address to a Linux server (Ubuntu Jaunty) on the internal network of the Time Capsule.
The default settings of the Time Capsule use the addresses 10.0.1.2 to 10.0.1.200 for DHCP clients. If you want this server to have a fixed IP address, simply configure the server to have a manual IP address in the range 10.0.1.201 to 10.0.1.254.

  • After a recent power outage, my Time Capsule is flashing amber

Time Capsule model A1254.  500 GB.  After a recent power outage TC started to flash amber.  I unplugged it for about a half hour and replugged it.  Still can get on the internet but amber light still flashes. I unplugged and replugged it and the modem several times.  Can I just ignore this?

I'm not sure how large a hard disk I need to back up the data on Time Capsule.
500 GB at least to be safe. A larger drive can be used if you wish.
do I just put the USB into the USB port at the back of TC?
    1) Make sure to obtain a hard drive that is formatted specifically for Mac.....not a PC.
    2) Connect the drive to the USB port on the Time Capsule
    3) Use AirPort Utility to Archive the data on the Time Capsule to the hard drive
To do that, open up AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup as before
Click the Disks icon at the top of the AirPort Utility window
Click the Disks tab just below the Disks icon
    Click Archive
Click Archive again to confirm the action
Screenshots have not been appearing correctly on the Apple forums of late, so hopefully the images will appear below.
This will take a long time....possibly up to 4-5 hours depending on how much data is on the Time Capsule disk.
If you are uncertain about the Archive procedure, I would suggest that you take the Time Capsule to an Apple Store or servicer and ask them to perform the Archive for you.

  • HT201250 Time Capsule Problems - Flashing Amber

Hi, I just purchased Time Capsule to use as a storage device for Time Machine. This was my first attempt to use Time Machine. I tried connecting via AirPort, but ultimately couldnt get the restart to work...so i just went with the ethernet cable. I believe its working (i can see the back-up'd files in Finder), but the light continues to flash amber. Problem? How do i fix it?

  • I want to use the ethernet connection from my new iMac to my Time Capsule.  It seems only the Wifi is seen by either device.  Ive connected the Time Capsule to the iMac.  How can I get the iMac to use the wired connection

I want to connect my iMac to my Time Capsule using Ethernet.  I have them connected via an Ethernet cable, but only WiFi seems to be working.  How can I specify the Ethernet connection instead of WiFi?  Thanks
    Welked

Go to preferences, network and see if ethernet is indicated. Be sure it shows a green dot.  Also be sure it is at the top of the list (above WiFi).  If not click on the the wheel at the bottom and set service order.

  • I updated my computer to the new software (Lion 10.7.2) and I can't get my iWeb to show up?

I recently updated my 27" desktop to the new & improved Lion 10.7.2 from Snow Leopard ..
All of my personal files, folders, etc were transferred by the Genius Bar at my local retail store, however, I went and opened iWeb to update my farm's website and unfortunately my old iWeb doesn't come up!
    Help!?!?!

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • There is a new Calendar function in Yahoo Mail, and I can't get Firefox to access this (though Safari will) - any comment?

Everything else in my Rogers Yahoo Mail is fine - its just this new functionality that keeps reporting - over a week or so - that it can't be accessed. When I open Safari, I have no trouble accessing the Calendar (which has been redesigned by Yahoo).

You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
Firefox doesn't offer to store new passwords if you are in Private Browsing mode, but already saved passwords are accessible. You need to leave PB mode if you want to store a new password.

  • Why does the "more info" of "Get info" get erased after the first time I look at it, and how can I get it back?

When I download a graphic, photo, or PDF, I can get information about it, including size and the web address of the download, using Get info. But in Mountain Lion, after I look at a file once, this information disappears. This wasn't true of Snow Leopard, though I can't remember whether it was true of Lion. In any case, it seems like a bug. Is there a way to recover this information?

Only when i go to a different browser (like IE) after i clear it , then all that shows up is the pages i visited in IE , that is what bugs me , why is IE browsing history sowing up in Firefox ??
Basically , i can clear the history in Firefox , and then for a example , go to Craigslist , using IE7 (launching it from a complete different Icon , in other words at that time i never open Firefox) , then after closing out , or even leaving open as it does not seem to matter , i go into Firefox , and hit History , and there is every place i visited in IE7 , on my History in Firefox

  • How can I reconfigure an Airport Timecapsule and Airport Extreme Base Station to extend a new Time Capsule 3TB network.

Previously they were configured to be part of a network attached to a cable modem.  Now I have a DSL modem.  I can get the 3TB Time Capsule tower to be recognized by my AirPort Utility but cannot get the older 2TB Time Capsule and Extreme Base Station to be recognised as wifi extensions of the 3TB Wi-Fi Base Station.     This latter base station is set up in Bridge mode and the wifi is switched off on the DSL Modem.     I am trying to recreate a home network (I have created a newly named one) and use the Apple products as the wifi routers, leaving the fibre optic-supplied DSL modem to interface with the internet.
I would have thought that I should set-up the 3TB Time Capsule Base Station in DHCP network mode, but trying to do so gives me error messages and renders the network inoperative.   Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the AirPort utility to recognise the two other devices (Base Stations) as extensions of the main one?    I have tried with RJ45 cabel connections to no avail.

First, it would be wise to update your computer to OS X Mavericks. It's just a free update, but it really helps your computer.
Once you've done that, on to the fix.
In Airport Utility, select the old router and click "edit". Click the Wireless tab. Select Off. Click Update, and wait. During the update, you should use your phone to read this, as you may have no wireless for a time.
Once the update is done, click the new Time Capsule and click "edit". Select the wireless tab, and change the Network Mode to "Create a Wireless Network". Choose your name, security and password. Click Update. Once the new Time Capsule is plugged in and wired, you should be able to connect to your network from your laptop.
Back on the old Time Capsule, go to the Wireless Tab and select, "Extend a Wireless Network". Select your network, and click update.
On the Airport Extreme, do the same as the old Time Capsule.
You should be done! Now, you can move your old Time Capsule somewhere else as use it as an extention of your network. And the same with the Airport Extreme. Enjoy your 5TB of network storage!
