My newly reinstalled Premiere Pro CS4 is unable to support .mov files. Is there anything I can do?

The files were supported when I created the project on a college computer in a previous version of Premiere in 2009. I have tried downloading quicktime and restarting so far.
Cheers,
-Ewan

Installing Quicktime, usually but not always the latest version, is supposed to permit editing MOV files
But, exactly what is inside the MOV file, and what camera did you use?

This has nothing to do with hardware questions and please refrain from double posting.

  • Reinstalled Premiere Pro CS4 in windows 64 bit Vista and it worked, then today I am receiving error message 1

and it will not start.  Before the reinstallation I was having problems with my computer entering the power save mode.  I have reset the mode to high performance.  I was unable suddenly to view video on source or preview monitor.  Every move I made on Premiere Pro left me with a spinning circle and no choice but to shut down.  Now it will not start.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 added contrast H.264 preview files

    Hi,
Any help I can get with this problem would be amazing.
I recently updated my OS to 10.6 as there were programs I wanted to run not available on 10.5, however this caused other issues with Premiere that I couldn't fix so I just decided to go back to 10.5. With both installs I reformatted the hard-drive then installed the OS. Now that I've reinstalled OSX 10.5 and updated to the most current version, and then installed Premiere Pro CS4 and updated that to the most current version (4.2.1) and also updated the codecs for Premiere, I'm having an issue with my preview/render files in my timeline that I never had before. It appears that now when I render my original H.264 files the preview/render files have added contrast/crushed blacks and blown out highlights.
Basically I'm editing H.264 footage from a DSLR, and when I open up a project that I was working on before I began this upgrade mess it opens correctly, but if I extend a clip in my timeline to include part of the original clip that was not previously rendered, Premiere renders this clip with what appears to be increased gain and pedestal/increased contrast. I've also tried this in a new project and it still renders with much more contrast than it used to. Whether in a new project or previous project, Premiere seems to decrease pedestal so my blacks are around/below 7.5 IRE and my whites are at/above 100 IRE. it looks really messed up when this occurs in the middle of a clip that was half rendered before and half after the install. Also I'll bet it's not going to help when it comes to color correcting and it looks like I could be losing image data.
I don't know what has caused this as it was working properly before my attempted upgrade, and I installed Premiere the exact same way as I did the last time I installed it and I'm using the same version. The only hiccup was after the install and upgrade it said media offline on my old project until it asked me to update codecs, once codecs were updated it displayed all footage in my timeline correctly and then I noticed that I could no longer render preview files to the same standard.
Here are screen shot comparisons of a video from my timeline. These are back to back frames, the top one was rendered before the most recent install, the other rendered after. I have put a YC Waveform chart beside the image. Sorry I think the best way to see it is just to follow the link otherwise it's gonna be too small.

Also here is a screenshot of the settings I'll describe below.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/86776146@N03/8101463115/sizes/l/in/photostream/
    Computer:
    Mac OSX 10.5.8
    Intel Core Duo
    Premiere Pro CS4 (4.2.1)
    Project Settings:
    HDV 720p
    29.97 fps
    1280 x 720
    square pixels
    30fps drop-code
    I-Frame Only MPEG  (video codec)
I've already searched for a solution to this but come up with nothing. I read a bunch of stuff on the increase in gamma that can happen with .mov files but I don't think this applies to my situation as I would have been having that same issue with my previously rendered footage.
    Anything would be really helpful...Thanks

Okay so I've been looking into this in depth over the past few days and I haven't come up with a lot. I have noticed that it's not just the render files but also the inspection window where the clip displays in this manner. It looks like the luma range (as seen in YCbCr scope) is being limited between 7.5 and 92 IRE and I think this is maybe a good indicator of the problem. Why this is happening I don't understand. On my clips that were previously rendered in this timeline there is full range from 0 to 100 in the luma from the YCbCr scope. These files were rendered to an external drive from before I reinstalled Premiere, so it's any h.264 files that I am using after reinstall that are having this issue. I have attached another screen capture illustrating this (look at line to right of scope showing full luma range). Also I have some .mts files from another camera and they import with full luma range as well.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/86776146@N03/8114886495/sizes/l/in/photostream/
When playing my h.264 files in Quicktime or VLC they look about the same in terms of blown out whites and crushed blacks. Does Premiere rely on Quicktime for its h.264 codec or does it have it's own? Is there a way to force premiere to update its codecs/manually download and replace the h.264 codec?
I really can't understand what's happening here and I can't do any work when imported clips are this messed up. Can someone please help out on this!!! Super frustrating and seems to constantly happen with Premiere...

  • Premiere Pro CC not playing fair with .mov files

I have a CC account and use Premiere Pro on my PC with no issues so far except that the RAM and Graphics card suck. So I decided to run on my laptop running windows 8 rather than 7.
AE runs with no issues (so far), but when I use Premiere Pro it does not like .mov files for some reason.
I imported files from my iPad and it gives me this message:
    Error Message
"The FIle Has no Audio or Video Streams"
To work around it for now, I converted the file into mp4 and imported to edit from there. Now issue is that we need to place a lower third. I have an AE project as the .mov file imports into that no problem, but when I then export as quicktime file for the alpha channel it still will not import into Premiere Pro, same error message.
I can export as .avi but then the file screams 'MASSIVE' as it is over 1.5gb cpmpared to the 32mb as a .mov file.
Bottom line, cannot get any .mov to import into PP on my laptop even though it works fine on my PC. Also, .mov files play fine in AE??
    Please HELP

  • Premiere Pro CC freezes when processing some .mov files

    I'm new to Premiere.
I just got some .mov files to be edited.  I'm not sure how they were created.
When I try to do anything with them Premiere freezes and I have to force it closed and then manually kill Adobe QT32 Sever.exe in order to restart Premiere.
If I can get a clip to play, the video freezes but the audio plays.
The Media Pending screen shows in the thumbnails when mousing over the clips in the bin.
Just importing all the clips into a project will freeze Premiere.
Quicktime Player plays the files ok.
Loading the files into  VideoPad results in a 4 second clip. That is, every file ends up being just the first 4 seconds when VideoPad imports it.
I do not have this problem with other .mov files from a Nikon D3100.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply, Jeff.
The MOV files are client provided.  He emailed me today that he recorded them on a consumer camera that created AVCHD files which he converted to MOV through a free utility he found on line.  Sigh.
Since Quicktime Player plays the individual files he didn't know there was a problem until they were given to me to assemble into a finshed piece.  As the clip numbers are not sequential, I'm guessing there was a committee who looked at all the clips and chose the ones they want in the final product and only those were given to me.
He said he could copy the original files onto a DVD (hopefully he has the entire contents of the chip so I will get all the files that were created as this knowledge base article indicates).
I tried Handbrake and what I get is a split second of live video which then freezes as the audio plays out. :-(  I, too, suspect the fault is in the multiple video data types.
    Thanks again for your input.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 will not import MOV files

As of about two weeks ago, my Premiere Pro CC 2014 stopped importing my Canon MOV files. Never had a problem before. I've had to edit in CC to work around this. They import fine there.

    Jim,
I've looked up all sorts of MP4/MOV comparisons on the web ... most conclude that mov is perhaps a bit "safer" on an Apple OS and mp4 "safer" on a PC and non-Apple "devices", but generally list the contents of the two as being nearly indistinguishable. I do realize the Qt has had ... issues ... within the Adobe programs, especially on PC's.

  • Premiere Pro 2.0: Losing audio in .mov files

I'm using Premiere Pro 2.0 on a PC (I know, it's time to upgrade)
A client sent me some short .mov files supposedly shot with a Canon camcorder. They play fine in QuickTime outside of Premiere. But when I import them into Premiere Pro 2.0 and begin to trim the clips, the audio plays for about 5 seconds, then it goes silent for the remainder of the video.
Does anyone know why this is happening and, more importantly, how I can get the audio to play correctly in Premiere Pro 2.0?
For what it's worth, once they are in Premiere, the properties say that they are "12000 Hz - 16 bit - Mono"
Many thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

  • My MacBook Pro's USB ports will not work. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I bought it in late May of '12.  The USB ports stopped working a couple of months after I bought the computer. I did not spill anything on it or drop it.  I went in and had them fix it and they worked for about a month.  They will work occasionally and it takes me removing and entering the USB connector multiple times before it recognizes that anything is there.  The computer is no longer under warranty and I don't want to have to pay a bunch of money to have it fixed.  Is there anything that I can do to fix this or am I going to have to have someone else do it.

Maybe a PRAM reset will work:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If there is no change, bring the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.  Bring the recalcitrant devices with you.  This should at least determine exactly where the fault lies, with the MBP or the externals.  Any repair costs quoted you may accept or reject.
    Ciao.

  • Premiere Pro CS4 ERROR import VOB file

Today my Premiere Pro CS4 had Error about importing VOB file but yesterday it's can import smoothly.
please help me fix the problem.
    *ERROR Picture*
    thanks
ps. i just done updated CS4 to the latest this morning but the ERROR still show.

    Harm,
I also wonder if the OP's version might not have reverted to the "trial" version, with the update. Because the VOB is an MPEG, that would not be supported.
If this has happened, you will need to Deactivate, uninstall, run Adobe Clean Script CS4 several times, re-booting between each, and then re-installing and Activating. Then immediately do the full updating. To test whether you now have the "trail" version, just Import an MPEG file, and see if you get a File Format/CODEC error message.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Pro CS4 "Export Settings" window does not show up.

    Hello,
I've run into a new problem with Premiere Pro CS4. Basically, when I select "File > Export > Media" my Export Settings window doesn't show up. If I click on the Premiere window I hear the beeping sound and nothing happens, if I hit Enter the Export Data window pops up and then Media Encoder opens. So, it seems that my Export Settings window is still open but I can't see it and make the necessary setting changes. It does not appear to be minimized and I can not locate it on my desktop anywhere. This is really frustrating because I was able to see the Export Settings window just a few weeks ago when I was exporting my last project. I've tried changing my screen resolutions but that didnt reveal the Export Settings window.
Does anyone know what is going on here and, more importantly, how I can fix it? I am really stuck here and am working against a deadline. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

    Ben,
THANK YOU!!!! For two days I have been struggling with the exact same issue. And of course it was simple to fix, if I had just thought about it. Thank you for taking the time to post your experience. I had tried all sorts of stuff trying to get everything onto my #1 monitor, with desktop & workspace resets, resizing my display, etc. After reading and printing your post,
    Hitting ALT+Space,
    Down Arrow,
    Enter,
and then pressing the left arrow and watching my Export window slide into view, I was laughing so hard, that I was tearing up. It would have been a month waiting for my second monitor to get repaired to get to see what was still being displayed on this ghost monitor. Each week, I video and edit our church's service and then post three versions (Windows Media Player, Ipod-MP4, MP3 Audio) of it to our web site. I would have been four weeks behind were it not for your post.
    Again, a BIG Thank You!!!

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 cannot be re-installed

Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 cannot be reinstalled after failing for unknown reasons (no program crash but after a normal start-up after working flawlessly for years). I get the message: "Adobe Premiere Pro Startup Error: Adobe Premiere Pro was unable to communicate with the process "Importer Process Server". Reastarting your computer may fix this problem". Several trials showed that this is not true. -- I uninstalled the program using the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and reinstalled it with the original, registered DVDs. Several trials failed (the antivirus program and the firewall were inactivated). I continue to get the same message. - The Adobe Encore CS4 included in Premiere, however, seems to work normally. But the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 does not function as well. The following message is shown (miraculously in German and translated by me): The product starting point
??0NewHandlerinitializer@ErrorManager@config@dvacore@@QAE@XZ was not found. - I suspect that a faulty Premiere file remains in spite of the cleaning action by the Adobe Cleaner Tool. The black screen of the Cleaner Tool does no longer list any sign of Premiere. The Windows Registry and the C:/ disk were cleaned as well (CCleaner).

  • Premiere Pro CS4 Installation Failed - Again!

    Hi all
We are currently using an old version of Adobe Premiere which I would like to upgrade to the latest version.  I want to show everyone in the company how good the latest version is and get them to pay for an upgrade/full version.
I then noticed a free trial download for Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and thought great idea. Well done Adobe I can now show everyone how good the latest CS4 version is.
5 days later I still can not get the damn thing to install and work!! :-(
In a desperate move I even tried it on a new Windows XP Pro SP3 - 3Gb RAM - Quad Core - 1Tb HD etc.. and when I try and install the Premiere windows 1.3Gb trial installation it eventually says at the end of the installation process (which takes for ever) "Installation Failed - One or more required components of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 failed to install correctly." and it shows the following error log:

Over the last 5 days I have looked through this forum site and tried every recommendation it suggests to fix the problem including:
    1) Uninstalling / Re-installing serveral times the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 which eventually comes up with the above error.
    2) Turned off all Anti-Virus applications and disabled all running windows applications.
    3) I have also tried the WinCS4Cleanupscript process
    4) Manually deleted and removed the premiere folders
    5) I even rang up adobes technical support line and they said use the forums to solve the problem. Cushy job they have...
None of the above fix the problem...
So here I am. Has anyone got any ideas how to make it run up in trial mode ?
Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated as I suspect im not the only one having this problem.

Day 8 - OK I have finally fixed the problem.  I got fed up and purchased the full Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 product and it installed and worked 1st time!!!
I must admit im very annoyed that the Trial version failed but the full product works.  The 2 x Premiere Pro CS4 installation CDs went through the installation process without a hitch and I did not get any installation error messages at all.
So my no 1 question is why does the online Adobe Premiere CS4 Trial version fail to install but the full product can ?
For what its worth, here are my final observations from this whole saga:
    1) The first thing I noticed on the Full Product CD Installation is it defaulted to and installed the "en_International" version and not the "en_US" language version. For some reason the online trial version defaulted to "en_US" language and I used this option during the trial installations. Maybe this language option upsets the installation process on my UK PC.
Now I have it working im not going to risk re-installing it all again. But if your a UK user and you encounter problems during the trial installation process then try selecting the "en_International" language option. You never know.
    2) Another obvious observation is the trial version has numerous features removed and hacked out of it  So did the Adobe engineer get carried away with the hacking process and also remove some important installation code and procedures.
After several days of trying to get the trial version to work there is obviously a problem with the trial installation process and it needs looking at.  I must of installed and reinstalled it 15+ times and during this time it upset my Dreamweaver CS4 app so forcing me to re-install this application as well.
Please Adobe just give the online users the option of 2 x CD ISO Images to download and burn onto a CD as this could save other users the same frustrating time I have had and maybe give you more revenue.
