My next Director project

Hi community folks.
Don't know if you can be interested in this, but I'd like to show you our next project, a Mac (and in the next future Windows) application dedicated to podcasters to help them cleanup audio and auto-sync multiple recording tracks.
Here's a preview of the interface:
PodCleaner: interfaccia utente | Video DiggaZ
And here's the first part of the user manual:
Come si usa PodCleaner? [prima parte] | Video DiggaZ
Both pages are in Italian but you can easily translate them to your language using Google... ;-)
Don't know why I'm sharing this to you.
Maybe to let the community feel that Director isn't already gone... :-)
Thanks.

Thank you.
We developed a lot of frameworks/middleware to bring PodCleaner to life: from file handling to audio post-processing (to the single sample), to a solid library that handles serial numbers and licenses.
It will be a 3-5 $ application, but we wanted to experiment a theoretical way to do something that is secure.
We don't hope to get even near to the break-even point, we did it to challenge ourselves. :-)

  • Director Project incompatible with 10.4.3

I ran into a strange incompatibility today when checking a
director project on OS X 10.4.3. The icon for the OS X version of
the projector was incorrect, and when you went to launch it, you
were given the "could not find classic Mac OS" error. But if you
try the CD on OS X 10.3.9, the file's icon is correct and the the
    projector opens correctly.
I believe the projector was generated on Director running on
the Mac as there are seperate OS X and Classic versions, as well as
a Windows version (The projector is running off a hybrid CD).
This does not seem to follow the problems discussed on
Macromedia's site with regards to Tiger compatibility - I'm
wondering if this may be a 10.4.3 specific issue?
Please excuse the lack of some technical details, as I was
not involved in the creation of this projector file, and I'm trying
to find some answers while we track down the original creator for
    my client!
    Many Thanks for Any Help!

I am having an identical problem.
I have an identical set up (powerbook G4 667mhz).
My problem also appeared when I updated to 10.4.3 and ITunes 6.0.1.
I can no longer play CDs on computer, nor can I copy song files to my desk top from an audio cd. When copying a file from a store-bought audio cd in the finder, I get the error message "finder cannot complete operation because some data in <song title> could not be read or written (error code -36)"
I hope somebody can figure out a fix.

  • How to decompile an old director project?

how can I decompile an old director project?

    Thank you for the reply...
The disc was created in April 2004 with probably the latest version of Director at that time. We created the CD for one of our clients that now wants to make changes...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Director projects on DVD ROM and DVD video

    Hi all,
I need your attention and your aid to solve a doubt and a
job. I've to create a DVD Video that plays on dvd home players and
on macs and windows computers, with dvd readers. Moreover I need
that the same DVD contains a directors project (the same project
for mac and win system) that start automatically, when the dvd is
inserted in a dvd reader of a computer.
    Is it possible?
Does director make it (DVD video + DVD rom with a directors
    project?
Director vs DVD Studio Pro in order to obtain a master DVD
hybrid (DVD video + DVD rom with a directors project)?
    Thanks for your attention,

Wahey!!! That's me!!! Crikey I don't remember posting to that
    forum!?!
Anyway, back to your problem - as already noted there really
    isn't an
elegant way of solving it! You quite literally have to whack
    everything into
one folder - when it comes to hybrid DVD-Videos there's no
    'nice partitions'
as we have with hybrid CD-ROM I'm afraid!
The route I took was to develop the DVD-Video and add the
    Director Windows
projector and its gubbings via the ROM content folder [used
    Encore - but
    DVDSP isn't too far apart].
Also within this DVD-ROM folder lay a Mac disc image [DMG] of
    our Director
Mac projector with it's associated Xtras, etc. - with enough
    time on my
hands I could easily have added asset sharing but time was
    tight to say the
least and I knew I had lots and lots of space on the DVD so
    basically
packaged all the assets together with the projector within
    the
aforementioned Mac disc image. I also added a PDF + text
    document at the DVD
root level explaining to Mac users that they would have to
    mount the
included Mac disc image to gain access to the data side of
    the disc.
As it's been pointed out already it isn't pretty and it isn't
    elegant,
but... it works!! I was also advised by our replicator's that
    this is the
"safest" way to go. Yes you could try the Mac partitions
    route but there
really is NO guarantee that all standalone DVD players are
    capable of
reading the final disc - I wasted numerous coasters with such
    ideas and it
was very, VERY hit and miss!
If you've a wide DVD-Video collection take a look around at
    some of the
titles that hold ROM content as well and you'll find that the
    big studios
also produce their DVD's in the same fashion, for example
    [off the top of my
head] the Matrix trilogy are produced in this way.
    Good luck...

  • Yellow exclamation mark next to project item

I inherited a LabVIEW project from someone who's no longer at my company, and the app it generated has been used for years here.  Unfortunately, when I open the project in LabVIEW I see no source files, but I do see 2 yellow exclamation marks next to [the only] 2 items in the project.  If I select either of these items then right click on them and select explain warning the below message box pops up.  By the name of the 1st one it seems highly probable that it's is associated with something generated by the former employee.  The 2nd one may be generic.  Either way, how can I get more info about what these project items are supposed to be (i.e., path & filename, or something like that) so that I can try to find them?  Secondly, is it possible that because of these errors the list of VI's that comprise this project are not shown?  Is there any kind of error that causes the list of VI's in the project to become hidden?
Thanks for any help in figuring out what's wrong and fixing it.

Okay... I found the target-singlerate.html file in the project folder hierarchy (but not listed as a component of the project).  Here's what's in it.  Does this shed any light on anything?

  • 2004 Director project Xtra (text)

Hello. I am trying to recompile a project that was done on a
mac so that it will run on windows. The project is quite old. I
have some dir files and some x32 files. The x32 files were all
    grabbed off the net.
The problem that I am having is that whenever I try and
publish the movie, it complains with the message "An application
requires an Xtra (Text) that either does not exist or failed to
initalize properly. Please make sure the appropriate xtras are in
    the xtras folder."
Now this happened with a bunch of xtras before, and I was
able to create a folder called xtra and then download the x32 files
to that directory. This one however is giving me lots of problems.
THe Xtra (TextXtra.x32 340kb) is in the xtras folder as well but
for some reason it doesnt detect it. I tried to remove it under
modify -> movies -> xtra but it just comes back, I cannot
    remove it.
I have also tried various versions of this file. My question
is how do i elliminate either a) the need for my project to use
this file or b) the error message from occuring.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how director works and am
learning as I go. Is there some way to list the sections that call
this particular extra so I can see about removing them or
substituting them with something else? Where do I look to try and
    solve this problem.
It would also be nice to know what the heck this file is
doing for my project. Maybe it isnt even used? I have no idea!
    thanks

    Hi,
As I understand it, you had an old Director file that you've
    updated to D10 and now
you're getting missing Xtra messages with your new projector.
    The reason the
message pops up is because the Xtra is not bundled with the
    executable. You can
find Xtras to include with your projector by going to the
    Director Program folder.
On Windows, this would likely be found at:
    C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Director MX
    2004\Configuration\Xtras
This folder contains the core set of Xtras that come with
    Director. It is also the
location where installed Third Party Xtras would live.
    Whether you're using a Xtra
that's core to Director or was purchased, it needs to be
    bundled with your
    projector.
Xtras can be bundled with a projector by being embedded into
    the file, or by
having an Xtras folder alongside the projector. I have a
    tutorial on creating a
stub projector that explains how to bundle Xtras. It is at:

  • Importing Cyberlink Power Director project files to Adobe Premiere

I am trying to switch from Powerdirector to Adobe Premiere because I felt like a needed a more powerful video editor. I already have a project that I started in PowerDirector and I don't really want to start it over from scratch or just export what I have into a rendered video file. Is there any way to import these sort of project files to Adobe Premiere, or some sort of converter?

No, you have to start from scratch, or better, finish in Powerdirector and only start new projects in PR.

  • Circle next to Project name

I have an open circle at the right edge of the Project name. What does it mean? The circle is outlined in gray and the rest is the background darker gray color. I roll over it and nothing pops up. If I click on the project name as if to change the name, the edit box covers the circle.

Yes, that looks like a beginning import or an incomplete sync with a Facebook, Flickr, or Mobile Me  album.
MtnBiker, have you checked, if all images in your project have been imported correctly, or are images missing? If you interrupted an import and images are still waiting to be imported, I'd connect the camera, card reader, or disk again to let the import finish.
If your project is synced with any online account, check the settings for this account in the web preferences and your internet connection to let the sync complete.
If your project does not need in import or sync to finish, it may be a question of broken preferences, like Kirby suspects, but also an inconsistency in the Aperture library. Then I'd repair the Aperture library in any case, in addition to Kirby's recommendation to trash the preferences.

  • Next project

Ok, so I finished my first director project since 1999 or so.
It was a "Who wants to be a Millionaire" style quiz game to review
my class before a test. Because of how rusty I am (and also because
I was never a very elegant programmer anyway), I was forced to do a
bunch of things the hard way. For instance, I wanted to have
several different sets of questions available, so I literally
scripted out 4 different games. In all, my simple little black and
white quiz game, with no graphics, video, or audio, took up almost
3 MB. I am sure that there has to be a better way.
What I would like to do next, would be to make a smaller,
more elegant version, that reads from an external text file or
database to populate the questions and answers, so that I do not
need to completely redo everything for each new unit. I would
ideally have a set of 40-50 questions, each with 4 possible
answers, the correct answer, and a difficulty rating. The game
would need to be able to randomly draw questions from the pool
(keeping in mind the escalating difficulty).
I have been following the thread on FileIO, and I have been
able to read a text file into a field (per the instructions from
deansdirectortutorial.com), but I have not been able to figure out
how to use that to populate my questions and answers. Everytime I
tried mucking about with line...of... I either got an error
    message, or nothing happened.
If anyone has any guidance, advice, commentary, or even good
    jokes, I would appreciate it.
    Thank you
    BobR

Reading text files is OK for some things, but I would suggest
    you think
about using a database to store your quiz data
(question/answer/rating/etc). Using a database is generally
    more
efficient. Plus it is great learning experience.
There is a fantastic free (and open source) database called
    SQLite.
While it is certainly not as power as something like Oracle,
    it is quite
sufficient for many tasks, including your game. I think is an
    excellent
way to get started learning how to work with databases. Using
    this, you
could build a Director program that has all of the code for
    the game,
but no data. That way you could make as many game sets as you
    wanted,
without ever having to republish your movie.
You can learn about SQLite on the website
    http://www.sqlite.org/ but all
you really need to do is download Valentin Schmidt's free
    SQLite Xtra.
You can get the Xtra as well as Director sample files which
    demonstrate
    how to use it.
Here is a zip file which contains everything you need to get
    started
(the xtra and a demo movie)
    http://staff.dasdeck.de/valentin/xtras/sqlite/win/v14b.zip
I also recommend getting the SQLite Browser, which provides a
    easy,
graphical interface for opening and editing a SQLite
    database.
    http://staff.dasdeck.de/valentin/xtras/sqlite/win/tools/sqlitebrowser_1.3_sqlite3.zip
Learning SQL is easy (easier than Director if you ask me).
    Here is a
great website that has a SQL tutorial (in addition to many
    others).
    http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp
As far as the size of your movie (3 MB) that is as expected.
    Try this,
make a very simple Director projector that does not, maybe
    just loops on
an empty frame. I bet you will find that is isn't much
    smaller.

  • Noninteractive project file opening in Director

    Hi, folks!
I wonder if it's possible to write an xtra plugin which would
open some Director project file while closing the current one?
I'm making a fully automated Director project publishing
process using Ant and need some way to open the project file in the
existing instance of Director. One possible way to go is to launch
the Director before publishing via command line passing the path to
the project file as an argument. The downside is speed - it takes
about 10 seconds for the new Director to launch and getting a bit
frustrating to wait so much during active development cycle.
Thus I'd like to use following algorithm:
    1) If Director is not opened open it via command line and
pass the project file, go to 3)
    2) If Director is already opened close the current project
file and open the required one, go to 3)
    3) Publish the project file
    Is it possible at all?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Raveen,
    Does it happen :
for all project files or just 1 unique file?
for all users or just you?
on different machines or just your machine?
with all browser (chrome, mozilla) or just IE?
    Hope this helps,

    Hi Guys,
Is there any FM or logic for finding the next free Project definition number.?
    Thanks,
    Gopi.

    Hi,
Tcode OPSK Maiantain the special character in "ANo".
Now whenever a new project is to be created in CJ20N, just hit enter in the Project definition field and give a start or finish number and hit Find the system automatically finds the number available.
    Hope its useful.

  • What are project management best practices?

I created a test project in Premiere Elements 12, and saved it in a directory named "Michaels Posters".   Then I archived the project to this directory and it created a "Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1" directory with all of the media files.  Then I added a video clip to the project, archived it again, and it created the "Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1_001" folder below.
My first real project will be a video highlights video of my 4 years old for 2013.  This will involve editing the same project several nights a week, for maybe a couple of months.  This would result in numerous "Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1_NNN" directories being created, assuming I archive the project each night.
So what is the best practices for managing a larger project like this, and avoid using a lot of disk space for the same project?
    Michaels\ Posters/
    ├── Adobe\ Premiere\ Elements\ Preview\ Files
    │   └── My\ new\ video\ project1.PRV
    ├── Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1
    │   ├── Adobe\ Premiere\ Elements\ Preview\ Files
    │   ├── Encoded\ Files
    │   └── Layouts
    ├── Copied_My\ new\ video\ project1_001
    │   └── Adobe\ Premiere\ Elements\ Preview\ Files
    ├── Encoded\ Files
    │   └── My\ new\ video\ project1.prel
    ├── Layouts
    └── Media\ Cache\ Files

I do work with the LAST archived project file, which contains ALL necessary resources to edit the video.  But then if I add video clips to the project, these newly added clips are NOT in the archived project, so I archive it again.
The more I think about it, the more I like this workflow.  One disadvantage as you said is duplicate videos and resource files.  But a couple of advantages I like are:
    1. You can revert to a previous version if there are any issues with a newer version, e.g., project corruption.
    2. You can open the archived project ANYWHERE, and all video and resource files are available.
In terms of a larger project containing dozens of individual clips like my upcoming 2013 video highlights video of my 4  year old, I'll delete older archived projects as I go, and save maybe a couple of previous archived projects, in case I want to revert to these projects.
If you are familiar with the lack of project management iMovie, then you will know why I am elated to be using Premiere Elements 12, and being able to manage projects at all!
Thanks again for your help, I'm looking forward to starting my next video project.

  • Director Flash 8 xtra breaks shared object and onSync

This one has driven me insane for days, but at least now I
know what the problem is. It's really a Director-Flash8 xtra-FMS
problem, but I figure the best chance for a solution is posting it
    here.
The problem is this: The Director Flash 8 xtra update messes
up remote shared object connections to FMS applications. The
Management Console debugger does not show any SO properties ("no
data"), and only the "clear" onSync event fires. The old Flash 7
xtra worked/works fine. To illustrate, I've tested the following
code in the Director message window with both the v8 and v7 xtra
(if you know Actionscript and not Lingo, it's still easy to figure
out what happens here). It basically creates and connects a remote
    shared object on FMS:
    rrr = newObject("SharedObject")
    nnn = newObject("NetConnection")
sss = "rtmp:/apptest01" -- app on locally running FMS
    er = nnn.connect(sss)
    put er
    -- 1
    fff = rrr.getRemote("tester", nnn.uri, true)
    put fff
    -- <flash object>
    er = fff.connect(nnn)
    put er
    --1
-- so it's all good until here. onSync callback works with
    "clear", etc, but...
    fff.data.foo = 55.5
    put fff.data.foo
-- 55.5... but only shows in Mgmt Console when using the v7
    xtra...
-- when using the old flash7 xtra,
-- debugging the FMS app and onSync events works correctly,
-- but when using flash8 xtra,
-- debugging the FMS app shows "no data" for this shared
object. foo = 55.5 should be there.
-- also, onSync events no longer fire after the initial
    "clear".
If I translated this into actionscript and ran it in Flash 8
vs Flash 7, etc, would I get the same problem? I'll try that next,
but it took me a while to get this far. Is it simply a matter of
permission or firewall setting? Or is it something just broken with
    the Director flash 8 xtra?
    Thanks

As of just last week, Adobe can replicate the problem and is
    "working on it". I don't anticipate a shockwave-flash-xtra update
to come out of this, but perhaps they can identify some other
work-around. If you can avoid using "success" onSync events and
don't need shared object debugging, then FMS works with
Director/Flash 8 xtra... but this may be a symptom of yet more bugs
    that I haven't seen.
I'm stopping development on my FMS/Director project until
this is resolved... I may need to crack open the old Multi User
    xtra.

  • Director + Flash + FLVs BUG

    Hi.
I know this happened to a few people already, but does anyone
know how to fix this problem, a hack maybe?
We have created a video loop in director, when you hit any
key or move the mouse, director calls the FLA file, that's works
    fine.
When you click on a btn things move -in to the screen and
inside of that screen you see options to play some movies, when you
click on the movies (FLV's) will load and it would work just fine.
But if you go to another part of the website and come back to the
one screen where you just seen the FLVs it won't play. If you come
out of it and come back to it again that FLV loads
it happends every other time... It seems that the
FLV's won't reload through director properly, I tried setting a
clear interval and it didn't work at all, is there anyway to get
around this and can re-start the FLV's?........
The other crazy thing is that SWF file will play flawless
through a browser or a from the SWF player... but it goes wrong
once it's placed in Director... Any thoughts on that anyone???
here's the code used to call the FLVs
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    theVideo.attachVideo(ns);
    ns.play("Explosing_Boat_805-40_sm.flv"); //<<<<
is that really the name of a movie????
    trace("movie var passed ok");
    ns.onStatus = function(infoObject) {
    if (infoObject.code == "NetStream.Play.Stop") {
//send message to move to next video
    theVideo._alpha=0, 1;
    link = 2;
    play();
    trace("movie function passed ok");
    Thank you!!!

  • Project Server 2010 Active Directory Synchronization - duplicate Windows Name - Event ID 7734

Environment: SharePoint Server 2010, Project Server 2010, SP2, DEC 2013 CU (Farm Build number: 14.0.7113.5001)
    Scenario:
Domain user has been added to the Active Directory group being synchronized with Project Server for the Team Members group.
That user has participated as a team member in numerous projects, added documents, been assigned tasks, typical project stuff...
    Employee quits.
AD account is deleted. (NOT deactivated or moved into another OU)
    Time passes...
Employee gets rehired.  NEW AD account is set up: same display name, SamAccountName, email address, different GUID of course.
Daily Active Directory job runs again and throws event ID 7734 and the sync ends with a partial fail.
I understand why this is happening.  Solutions I've found point me to deleting the Enterprise Object resource in Project Server and then rerunning the sync.  Sure, this works BUT won't all of the previous documents, tasks,
etc. be disassociated from that user?  If so, this is not ideal.
    2 questions:
Is there a better way to deal with the fixing of the resource in Project Server to somehow link the old resource to the new resource allowing the sync to run successfully while still leaving the association to all old content intact?
How are other organizations dealing with rehires when they have been added as resources in Project Server?  What is the best practice guidance from Microsoft on this?  Are other companies not actually deleting AD accounts when users leave organizations
or are they putting them into a "ARCHIVE" OU or something like that? This happens at least half a dozen times a year at my company. We would like to keep our AD as clean as possible, but this appears to change our approach.
    Any suggestion/guidance is appreciated.

For the question to relink the new account to the account which is already available in Project Server. You will have to update the WRES_AD_GUID to Null for the the Resource in MSP_RESOURCES table in the published database.
Whenever a users gets synchronized to the PWA his ADGUID, SAMAccountName, Display Name, Email Address and DepartmentName is Synchronized from AD to Project Server. When the user was deleted and recreated the ADGUID got changed. During the next sync, project
found the user with similar properties but different ADGUID which was updated in WRES_AD_GUID column in MSP_RESOURCES table. Hence it says that there is a duplicate account in the table with the same properties but a different ADGUID
Nullifying the WRES_AD_GUID column value in MSP_RESOURCES table should get the user synchronized to Project server in the next sync.
