My noise margin was hard set, but it's not now.

Some of you will have seen me going on about low noise margins affecting download speeds recently, and that the way to fix it is to get BT to hard set the noise margin at 6dB to prevent the problem. I had to do this a while ago when I was first upgraded to 21CN, and it was fine for a while. Problem is it seems the issue has returned, so I guess it's no longer capped at 6dB any more. Just making this thread so that the moderators can try to deal with it directly, since it took 15 attempts to even get BT to do as I asked last time!

Particularly of note for your situation:

This option requires more work than Home Sharing, but it creates a backup of your iTunes library on the external drive in addition to moving your content.
Notes before you start:
You can use most iPods as an external drive.
Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Because of this, you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod or external drive to move your music to a Windows PC. See iPod: How to determine iPod's hard disk format if you're not sure how your iPod is formatted.
Mac OS X can read Windows-formatted iPods and drives. This means there are many ways to migrate your information from your old Windows-based PC to your new Mac.
Mac OS X: To be sure external drives appear on your desktop, choose Preferences from the Finder menu. Be sure the options for "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.

The images i have now i can not use after lightroom has automatically altered them even if i try editing back to how they looked upon import

First thing to do is to change the default camera profile applied in Lightroom to camera standard (assuming that you shoot Canon or Nikon). Also make sure that your camera is NOT set up to use any of the HDR modes. Nikon calls those Active Dynamic Lighting. On Canons you often see things like highlight priority mode or "Auto Lighting Optimizer". Make sure that the picture style is set to standard and that for newer Canons the HDR mode is turned off. Most of the HDR modes simply underexpose the image and then add an instruction in the raw file to compensate for this to prevent highlights from being blown out. This causes more noise in the shadows and if you know what you are doing there is no point to this as you should simply expose correctly and get the highest quality raw.
Lastly, make sure that in Lightroom you have not checked "Apply Auto Tone Adjustments" in Preferences->Presets. This should make the default rendering of the raw files the same as the in-camera jpeg (what the camera shows on the back even if you shoot raw) but still give you all the latitude of raw files.

If you had registered your CS3, you can get the serial number from your Adobe account when you log in through the Adobe corporate web site. Just go to My Products to find it in your account.
Adobe applications show you a truncated s/n to discourage software piracy. Legitimate Adobe s/ns have 24 digits.

Last December (i think) i had a new phone line put in that solved crackles on the phone line and more than doubled the BB speed. ~13Mbps Down 0.9 Mbps Up. Also had the Mods rset my Noise Margin. Has been pretty good all year.
Last few weeks it's been fine during the day (as far as i can tel when i'm not at work) but the speed takes a big down turn late at night (when i'm home) and sometimes in the morning. Looking at the stats i've noticed the Noise Margin Down can be less than one and this morning was 0.1 - hence i had to restart the hub to get a useable connection. I have been checking and the hub can maintain a connection at 13 Mbps for 7-10 days without it restarting itself, then sometimes it's 24-48 hours before it restarts itself.
The hub reports it's gettings 13 Mbps but the actual useage gets tediously slow when the NM drops. Usually a restart seems to reset the hub back to full performance.

Connection was ok very slow this morning but Hub rebooted not long ago...

Downloads start fast then the speed drops rapidly and then it's all over the place up and down, stalling, racing, stopping and crawling....

Last night the NM was diving to 0.4 db and the BB was impossible to use for anything. Although it did return to around 2.5-3.0 it was stll excrutiatingly slow.

The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

How can I import my library that is saved on a external hard drive but it's not saved on the iTunes media folder?

I need to restore my computer to it's factory settings but I don't want to loose my playlists and my library (windows). I can copy any file from the computer because it's in good working order. All my music it's on a external hard drive, but there's lots of media files that I don't want to sync but need to keep! Any way to do that!?

Yes. But consolidate to X:\iTunes\iTunes Media.
The why I'm asking is because the music library (176gb) is way more than the computer drive (C:\). Remember that all the media is on a external hard drive (J:\)
The steps I gave earlier will work to copy the whole library onto the new drive, in the correct layout for future ease of use.

My TC was working good until I unplugged it,and when I tried to plug it in again there was no light at all but I can still hear and feel that it does have power,I did do soft and hard reset but it's not working?any ideas?!

Unfortunately, you are likely describing an internal power supply issue on the TC.
The power supply has enough power to start up the hard drive.....that is the sound that you hear....but it is having problems starting up the router portion of the TC.
Try powering off the Time Capsule for 30 minutes or so, then try the start up again.
If you have the same issue, unfortunately the TC will likely need to be replaced since Apple does not offer repairs on Time Capsules.
If the TC is in warranty, take it to an Apple Store to let them have a look or contact Apple Support directly....Contact Apple for support and service
If the TC is out of warranty, but you have AppleCare in effect on one of your Macs, the TC might be covered as well. The rules are complex, so discuss with Apple.
If you can locate the model number on the bottom of the TC......starts with an "A" followed by four numbers......we may be able to provide a bit more info.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

Hi, i have a new toshiba laptop with windows 7 home edition K and first thing i did was download firefox but it does not open... thank you!

Laptop is L630 and i bought it in Korea, language base is korean/english. I downloaded firefox first but it was US-english, so i uninstalled it and re-installed the uk-english version. Before that I set a persona on firefox 9the only add-on i was in time to set)
When i click on the icons it does not launch...

I can't think of any way to make the Navigation Toolbar appear/disappear based on which direction you move your mouse.
Well, there is full screen view, where the whole toolbar area including the tab bar slides up off the screen, and reappears if you slide the mouse pointer all the way to the top. (You can use the F11 key to turn full screen view on and off.)

New treemodel is set but view does not update?

How does one refresh a view? I mean if I set another treeModel using setModel then how do I update this to the view instead of it displaying the original?
It sets the new model and my debugging statements show it goes all through the setting up of the new information but doesn't move into the next step - display.
I have tried validate(), setVisible(false) then setVisible(true), and repaint() but to no success. All I really want to do is refresh the view I think.
I've read a few threads on this but haven't seen a resolution yet and am figuring when people solve it they don't post the solution just move on.
Any advice would be very welcome at this stage.

Installed hard drive but it's not showing up

But when I start up the computer, I don't see the drive in Disk Utility or in About This Mac.
I've installed and re-installed 3 times. The wires attach snugly. Anyone have any ideas?

Huzzah! Problem solved.
When I pulled the little cables out to connect to the drive, I must have pulled too hard and pulled them out of their slots. I re-attached and everything was fine.
