My nokia n95 gps wont work?

When i origannally got the phone the maps were coming up.
But now since i have downloaded and installed nokia maps nothing is happening.
I have nokia map loader and have downloaded the australian map succsesfully but still no maps are coming up on my maps.
Could you please help?

Do you get a satelite fix?
Try this!
Save all data like mp3s, contacts etc.(not "city" folder)
Format memory card, then open mapps app. and wait for satelite fix. Close maps app. This vill create the nesesary folders om mem.card.
Use maploader to download new maps.

Hi.. I have Nokia N95 (N95-1 by user manual) - device firmware soft version
    11.0.026

    RM-159
    Nokia N95(05.01)
When i try use "GPS position" application or "Maps" it's dos not work. All ways i see - "no connected" in status (in my home, in street and other open places). In all times that i'am user my N95 only one time by command "Satellites State" y have screen with 2 satellite (~5second) and other time allways "No Data or No Connected Satellites".
Q: Whats the problem - it's that Qaulite(or Strong) of GPS(for that needed like it GPS)? or it's defect and GPS must work avrever (and home, and on street)
When i try use application "Barcode Reader" - it's no one times dos not readed barcode? Only try? and try, and try... all times?
Q: Why dos not work? who see worked "Barcode reader"?
    Thank to ALL..

Nokia! Take a care for me and we real say THANK YOU NOKIA and you can collect a more money

First of all , you should update to the newest firmware (v20). If you can of course, for some network branded phones update is not available yet.
As for GPS, first fix is taking a long time (5 to 10 minutes).
In v12 and above A-GPS (assisted GPS) was added to speedup the process. It's using data connection for initial lock.
And make sure you're not covering tha hash key, that's where GPS reciever is. It will get a fix, just be patient because it will take some time.
Barcode reader is not for reading normal barcodes (like on products). It's used for Nokia's mobilecodes. You can check it here

  • Nokia N95 GPS Navigation

    Dear All,
I am James and recently bought a Nokia N95. It comes with GPS Navigation but not sure how it works. Looked in the user manual but still not idea of how to work it. I have played around with it and downloaded Google Maps but find it difficult to get a reception.
I want to know how to download maps onto it, what connection is needed and how it actually works?
    Any ideas?
    regards
    James

    Hi,
I'm just back from the US were i used the GPS a good bit. like most GPS's, Navigation on the N95 told me to turn right then left on on straight roads with intersections (watch out for this, always look at the map before turning as you'll see that the route line is straight on screen), sent me down bizarre side roads, never went the same route to a place as it did going back (very strange), but other that that was very handy.
The one major bug I'd like to report is in v20 of the firmware (can't say for others versions), despite disabling network communication in the settings, the phone would still startup my GPRS data pack connection while roaming. Even when I set it to use Wi-Fi, it still made a connection over GPRS. I work out it cost me about a €10 in unnecessary data charges. Easy test to see if you get the same problem: Startup Maps and say no to data usage, exit or Press Menu, Tools, Log. You should see that a Data pack connection was initiated at the same time you started the Maps App. The only way around this I found was to set the phone to offline mode. But you might as well buy a proper GPS if this is the only solution.
    Good luck!
I had exactly the same problem. Once activated, network mode could not be turned off and it cost me around $50 in a day and a half.
As soon as I tried to shut it down in Maps>Options, it either shut down maps or rebooted my phone.
Keep network support off, is my recommendation.
To cure the problem, I had to reload my firmware and software...everything but settings. If you reload settings, you reload the problem.
I spend hours today doing just that. Settings are probably the least important part of my phone history so it wasn't too big of a deal and the effort was totally worth it to save me mega cash while using maps.

  • Nokia C7 GPS not working after belle update!

Hi everyone, i had a C7, working great till i updated it with symbian belle.
okay here is what i did.
-my GPS was working on symbian anna with maps version 3.06beta
-i updated the phone to symbian belle from symbian anna.
-installed nokia maps 3.06 beta, and replaced the one that came with the update because it had the option of route planning which the installed map did not.
-this was the first time i checked to see if the GPS was working after the update, and it did not work even after i stood in an open field for half an hour.
-i learned that the latest update of nokia maps in fact had route planning, so i used the nokia PC suite to reset the phone software, and then later updated everything that was listed in the software update app.
-my GPS could still not work after i stood in the same damn field for another half an hour.
-now it will just give approximate positions based on the wireless networks, and not give any accurate position, so i cant use it for navigation anymore.
-i tried running the gpsinfoqt app, and it keeps saying searching for a signal, but it never finds one!
Please help me!! if there is any way i could flash the C7 or run a diagnostic or something so atleast i figure what is wrong!

    Hi akkudub,
    Welcome to Nokia discussions board!
Have you used Nokia Suite for the update?
I advise you to follow the steps below in order to get your GPS fully working again:
    1) Uninstall the current version of Nokia Suite that you have.
    2) Clean the registry with a registry cleaner.
    3) On your PC, go to Start > Run and type %temp% and click on "Run". Delete all Nokia folders from the folder that opens.
    4) Download the newest Beta version of Nokia Suite from this link:
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-suite-beta
You will need to sign in to your Nokia account - the same credentials used to log into this forum.
We will appreciate your feedback once you have tried this program!
Once Nokia Suite is installed, please connect your device to it and perform the available updates if any is available. Alternatively please reinstall the current software. Also, click on the Maps tab and download the relevant maps files (Europe, UK etc...)
Let us know how you get on and feel free to post any other questions you may have.

Hi I hope some can help as between NOkia and vodaphone i am going mad I have bought a Nokia N95 phone and last weekend i was playing around with it,I must say my husband has the same phone and has no trouble with.I log onto the maps and littlr yellow lights go back and forth until it is replaced by green ones when it finds the satalite, but then it does nothing,my husbands automatcly homes in to out adress.but my N95 does not, i have asked nokia but to no aviale, they just told me to log on to the maps and it will home in automatacly which it does not has any one else had this trouble.I can manually zoom in with the * and the # keys but it will not do it by itself. My husbands N95 has a picture of a satalite dish in the bottom right hand corner and mine has some thing totally diffrent with the little lights going back and forth, and changing from yellow to green,The other thing i bought the N95 to use as a navagation unit as well as a phone but to my horrow last week just by playing about with it logging on and off and looking at the maps i was charged over £10.00 from my pay as you go balance.I thought it would log on to a satalite and away you go like a tom tom or similair i did not know it had to go through a internet connection can any one enlighten me how it works because i cant see how any one could afford to use it with this kind charge
Any help would be gratfully recieved
    Anne

    Hi Purravida,
You might want to delete the old maps and folders from your memory card - the location of the maps has changed. Nokia Map Loader 1.2.1 seems to be downloading the maps to the old directory system if it exists but your software on the phone will be looking at the new directory and will try to load the maps over the data connection.
I had to delete the hidden Private directory and all of its contents to get the Nokia Map Loader to recognise that there is a new directory structure on my memory card. It could have been something else, but that fixed my problem of the new Nokia Maps not finding the downloaded maps (and trying to download them over the data connection.) Be sure to make a backup that you don't delete anything you would need...
    Cheers,

  • Nokia 8500 GPS: Everything works save for the "fin...

    Hi,
I received my new Nokia 8500mx yesterday and was told in-store that the GPS would work automatically. So went home and tried it for the first time, it discovered my position in under 5 minutes, and I was super excited as I got the phone solely for the purpose of navigating my way around the new city I had just moved to.
However, when selected the "drive", "walk" or "search" options it didn't give any results for my searches for adresses. I tried a bunch of variations on the names of places and even used google maps as a reference of how to write out the adresses but it has a standard "no results found" every time. It also jumps between "searching online" and "searching offline".
I visited the Nokia website to see if i could find a solution, and subsequently upgraded the software on my phone, downloaded the maps installer, the map loader and the multimedia transfer. I then deleted all the existing maps and installed the map for my country and a voice.
It is still, despite having no problem with connectivity, not giving me any search results.
Is there some place that you set the phone to search the maps installed on the memory card? As i think that the phone searches online and the connectivity might be interrupted? really have no clue about these things. searched everywhere and couldn't find setting for this.
I can scroll through the map and manually select a place, after which the GPS works fine except - the voice isn't working! Does it talk out loud? or do you need your headphones? THis is fine if you're going somewhere that you know, but that's kind of defeating thepoint of having GPS, no?
Another small problem is that I have a constant flashing little envelope in the right top corner -- it says that "sim card is full" - but i can't find a directory for the sim card? It's been flashing since the moment i put the sim in the phone, but never did it with my old phone. any idea where i can access the sim information and delete some of it?
Ok that was a mouthful - but I would really appreciate your help.  This is the prettiest phone i've ever had and I really just want it to WORK.
    Thanks!
    Anja
    Solved!

Please tell us what version of Nokia Maps you have on your phone and also give us an example of the search string you have been searching for.
As for the flashing envelope, Flashing envelope could be caused by
    1. You may just have an unread SMS from your last phone that is still saved on your SIM card. To check, goto Messaging>Options>SIM messages.
    2. SIM card's message memory is full. Delete messages from the SIM card. Goto Messaging>Options>SIM messages
    3. Phones messaging memory is full. Try deleting messages, also checking in, Sent and drafts.
    3. Even though all your messages may be marked as read, just going down through the list and opening them all again one by one have also been known to resolve this issue. This could take some time but is worth a try if you do not want to delete any messages.

I'm opening "Maps" and there's a red cross on the satellite...when i move the cursor it says gps positioning or smth like that...when i press it it goes to some city in germany i think....
So could someone PLEASE tell me how to make this thing work....because i want that most of all...and now it's getting me mad...

  • Nokia N95 GPS Maps Navigation now free?

I think I have worked out what is going on here...
I hard reset my N95, installed the maps fresh (which took a very long time, but that is a different subject, so I won't get going on that)
I then checked if I could do full 7 digit postcode search while at home and still no, with "Network Use" set to "Never"
However, I have now come into the office, defined the wlan acess point (mine is broken at home) and set "Network Use" to "when needed" and I can do full 7 digit postcode search. If I then change that setting to "never" it reversts back to truncating the postcode.
I would appreciate if other N95 owners could confirm that this happens on their N95 too, and if so, it looks like maps is pulling additional info from somewhere to enchance the downloaded map.
You seem to be right. I cleared all the maps, then downloaded the maps for England using maploader and tested it. With network connection you can do full postcode search, but as soon as the internet connection is lost or turned off the system reverts back to truncating the postcode.
If you use the route planner while you have the network connection you can use the full postcode to set the destination point while having the GPS position as your starting point and the destination point gets stored as your destination.

  • Nokia N95 GPS - 616 Car Kits

When i use the GPS on my N95 - if it connnectd to the car kit the voice navigation does not come on - i have to diconnect from the kit to use GPS properly. If i use the remote sim option it mute the radio at all times until i close the nagivation application. Any suggestions

Looks to be a problem with a lot of car kits... many don't do the bluetooth audio thing - tho they do phone calls fine (different profiles I guess...)
So when you pair the phone to the car you loose the Nav voice because the phone is trying to pass all things audio over the bluetooth link - even if the car doesn't know what to do with it..
Leaving you in the position where calls work fine but voice nav is lost...
It'd be nice if we could leave the nav using the phone speakers and the calls using the bluetooth car kit... it might be a bit of a compromise but at least it would keep us legal whilst driving and still allow the use of the maps.. after all where better to use a nav app than in a car???
Pity Nokia seemed to have missed this one....

  • Nokia N95 GPS abilities

    Hi all,
I have few questions about GPS using.
    - Does N95 support JSR179(Location API)? If yes, did anyone try to run MIDlets with using JSR179? Does it work?
    - Does N95 has intefaces to share GPS data to PC. May be the latest version of "PC suite" can collect GPS data from the device. I want to use the phone like GPS receiver for my laptop's applications.
    Thanks.

Yes, it supports JSR-179. You can check it here:

  • Nokia E71 & GPS Not Working

    Dear All,
I have purchsed two E71s; one for my wife & one for myself.
I loaded Nokia Maps & could not get the GPS to connect to my position.
I went to the Nokia Store in Regent STreet London & they stated that it could take up to 30 minutes initially to find a signal.
A week later I am in the same situation.
I have reset the phone to factory settings & reloaded the maps & still nothing.
Is this a fault on the phone, if so I will return the device & notify you guys if faulty.
In the meantime, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not working with E75 either. It just keeps telling me GPS signals are weak indoors (or whatever) and I'm standing outside - on a damn airport..!!! What on earth could be wrong this time with this Nokia..?
I'm not familiar with the E75, but do you have Assisted GPS turned on? If not, it can take quite a long time to find the satellites if you've significantly changed your location since the last time you used the GPS function - sometimes up to half an hour. With Assisted GPS switched on it should only take a couple of minutes.
Large buildings, high mountains and other obstacles can interfere with getting a GPS lock, and can be quite a problem depending on exactly what angles the satellites are to your position. Electronic interference from radar could also be a factor at airports.
If I've helped you, you can thank me by clicking the green 'kudos' star on my post. Cheers.

  • Nokia 800 GPS not working

Hello all.  I have a NOKIA 800 with the latest updates (Windows 7.8) that has problems with the GPS.  It was all working fine until about three weeks ago.  I had the handset replaced under warranty (through Vodafone) as it looked like a hardware problem but the same problem exists in the new one.  Nokia Drive can't get a proper fix of where I am so the directions don't work.  I then tried Navigon Europe and this can't find a GPS signal either although if I go into 'GPS info' it does show coordinates and I've also left it outside in line of the open sky for an hour to see if it could get a fix that way (without success).  As I say, it all worked fine a few weeks ago so I'm a bit stumped as to what the problem is.  Does anyone have any ideas ?

omg.. thank you..  i thought im the only one who face the same problem..

  • Nokia N95 GPS showing different locations and inac...

First of all, I did all of the following while I am standing stationary under the sky. Okay, so I first went to tools-conect.-landmarks. There i made a new landmark using my current location. Then I went to Nokia Maps but the 'My Position' location(the red dot) and the landmark I made previously was not the same place(it was maybe around 30-40m apart). The thing is every time I made a new land mark with the Landmark option, it gives the same location and every time i open Maps, I gives me the other same location. Why??
Another thing is while driving using Maps, it seems that in the map I appear to be driving off the road. The satellite shows three-quarter full. Why is it still inaccurate?
Please help! I have never had any experience with GPS!

I finally solved mine! Turns out I was using the phone in offline mode. The problem just disappears when I went online, It was like the Maps software needed to synchronize itself by using the network connection. The 'Maps' is much more accurate now. It seems the coordinate using the 'Landmarks' was correct but the 'Maps' was a bit off
