My Norton Internet Security, Passwrd and user name auto complete doesn't work in Firefox 4

Since updating to Firefox 4 my user name and password auto complete form Norton Internet security doesn't work.

Symantec need to update their Firefox add-ons so that they are compatible with Firefox 4. They have indicated that for Norton 360 they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
I do not know about the time scale for updates for other Norton products. Pending the update by Symantec, if you want to use the Norton add-ons you will need to downgrade to Firefox 3.6.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • Recent install of Norton Internet Security 2007 and Itunes ver. 7.0.2.16

    For Your Information-
Recently did an install of Norton Internet Security 2007. Before the install "I used the Norton removal tool to uninstall NIS 2004."
Install of NIS 2007 seemed to go OK until I later opened i-tunes and message appeared
"I Tunes not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CD's you must reinstall."
Opened i-tunes and clicked about to see if drivers/dll were present(where you see itunes version # as screen scrolls up). The driver/dll were not present.
I went to add/remove programs, highlighted itunes but instead of clicking on remove I clicked on "additional support information" where you are given the option to REPAIR. Did the repair/opened itunes and all seems to be OK for now

I think that always happens when you use the Norton removal tool.
A repair of install of iTunes worked for me too.

  • Problem with Rescue and Recovery after installing Norton Internet Security 2010

    Hi all.
It's my first time in this forum.
I have a problem, with Rescue and Recovery, after installing Norton Internet Security 2010 on my T43.
    The message I get it:
"Rescue and Recovery is unable to back up the file 'C:\Documents and settings\all Users\Application Data\ Norton\ 00000082\00000109\000003c1\cltMLS1.bat' Because the file is either corrupted or being used by another application. Please close any application that could be using the file.
I tried to close the Norton but I couldn't find how.
    Tanks
    Doron71

Hi and welcome to the forum,
the reason for this situation is, that the antivir files are protected from being modified.
This is the reason, why this file cannot be backed up. I assume, that you would get much more such messages, as there are surelly multiple files files, that are protected like this.
So the solution is to block folders from being archived. Please start RnR application and in the configuration set this folder as the excluded one.
This will skip the backup of this file and will fix your situation.
Please let me know, if you have covered this.
    Cheers

There is no such Trojan or other malware known today that will do that using OS X nor has there ever been one. The most probable explanation is that somebody hacked into your e-mail account on the server, so you should change that password to something stronger right away. If it had come from your Mac then there would almost certainly be copies of those messages in your Sent Mail mailbox.

  • Sun One AS7 and Norton Internet Security (Personal Firewall)

    Hello,
    I have installed:
    - XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP1
    - Norton Internet Security Version 6.0.4.34 (Personal Firewall)
    - Sun One Application Server 7, Platform Edition
When Personal Firewall is running I get:
Could not start the instance: domain1:admin-server
server failed to start: abnormal subprocess termination
Could not start the instance: domain1:server1
server failed to start: abnormal subprocess termination
Could not start one or more instances in the domain : domain1
Could not start one or more domains
Press any key to continue . . .
    I've read the release notes:
    - changed port numbers
    - modified the firewall policy
and still experience the same problem.
When Personal Firewall is not running it works.
I guess I can just turn off my firewall when I evaluate this product.
I was wondering if anyone who has experienced and solved this problem
    could lend a hand.
    Thank you!

Sorry! Does it work if you disable the Smart Firewall in Norton Internet Security? Did you check uninstalling Norton?
    Thanks!

  • Norton internet security and IE 64 bit

Hi guys                              HP Touchsmart 300-1125uk win 7 64 bit
    2 Questions for you !
The first is, i have norton internet security 2012 installed, so why does it not cover touchsmart, version 4 no norton shows on the screen.
2nd Question internet explorer 64 bit you cannot get any toolbars, well saying that i know of only 1 google.
The problem being when you install google toolbar 64 bit, it takes over everything else, when you go back to IE 32 BIT.
Its taken over that too and resets your homepage to google on 32 bit.
1 More thing youtube for touchsmart, we don't have it.
Any help would be most welcome
    Thank you
    wob

You are correct about IE 64-bit having limitations, there is no solution, that's why Win7 also has a 32-bit Internet Explorer with it for compatibility. Personally? it's a lot safer to run IE-64 and not have any toolbars which IMNSHO are 99% crap.
If Norton shows in the system tray of WIndows it's installed, it doesn't need to do anything special to also protect the Touchsmart applications, it's not another OS, just an application.

  • Firefox 34 and Norton Internet Security (Version 21 ff) Don't Like Each Other and It's Not the Toolbar!

I have discovered that Norton Internet Security (and Norton 360 as well) version 21 and after conflicts with Firefox version 33.0 and later. I have been running the latest Firefox 34 version. When I upgraded on two of my computers to the latest version of NIS (version 21) Firefox (version 34) froze; indeed it locked up the entire computer. I therefore installed Google Chrome and everything worked fine. I can reproduce this error with Firefox like the flip of a switch; it is very consistent! The conflict, by the way, does not go away by disabling the Norton toolbar. I want to continue to use Firefox, and not Chrome, but I don't want the browser to freeze the machine. I run Windows 7 Professional. Do you have any suggestions?

Oh... I spoke too soon. I went into my office today and ran Norton 360 (Version 21.6) and Firefox 34.0.5 thinking that all would be well because I shut off Hardware Acceleration. Boy, was I wrong. Norton 360 crashed with the Windows message: "Norton 360 has stopped working; it will be shut down." I immediately shut down the computer (even though someone was actually in my office at the time), rebooted, no longer ran Firefox and did a complete virus scan. All is well if I do not use Firefox 34. And so.... I am going to make my life easier and simply move over to Chrome at least on my office machine. I just don't see any other way out of this predicament. I do this reluctantly because Chrome is much slower than Firefox is especially the way I run it. Firefox 34 and NIS Version 21.6 just don't like each other.
Thanks for your help. It's been a good thread even though I could never figure this out.
    Needs more help.

  • My Norton Tool Bar became deleted somehow. I need it so my Norton Internet Security Auto Fill feature will work. How do I get this back on the menu bar?

My Firefox Browser page use to have a Norton Safe Search Bar within the tool bar area. It has to be active thereon otherwise the Auto Fill feature of Passwords for websites I visit - which require my user name AND password - will not be filled in automatically by the Norton Internet Security 2011 software that I have on my computer.
My Question: HOW do I get that Norton Search Bar back on my Firefox Browser Page?

I had the same problem before, but i figured it out. This answer might be a bit late now....
    1. Open the Norton program.
    2. Scroll under PC protection and select Run Live Update
    3. Repeat step 2 until there isn't anymore updates available.
    4. Restart the PC
    5. Open Firefox browser
    6. If the toolbar isn't there, press Ctrl+shift+A
    7. Under extensions enable the Norton toolbar.

  • Re: Uninstalled Norton Internet Security - no connection to the Internet

I have the Satellite A210-11P laptop.
Recently I uninstalled Norton Internet Security after the subscription expired and since then my laptop will not connect to the internet.
The internet itself is working fine. I would appreciate your help and advice.
    Kris

You don't need Norton Cd disk, you can download it here:
    http://liveupdate.symantec.com/upgrade/NIS09EN.exe
Try to do what I mentioned above in previous post
if it doesn't fix it, I think the best solution is to reinstall Windows than fix the problem. You have to get Windows Vista Dvd disk, you can borrrow it from your friends or download from the Internet.
After that, you have to back up all the necessary files, otherwise they will be wiped during installation. To boot from Windows Dvd disk you have to enter the Bios and make some settings.(To enter the Bios, press F2 on powering the computer up) In Boot menu, you have to choose Cd/Dvd boot as the 1st boot device and press F10 to save and exit. The computer will restart.
Then, it will start from Dvd disk asking you to press any key, you can press any key. The installation will be initialized, at middle of instalaltion you wil be asked to enter the Windows serial number, user's name and etc...
After the complete installation, enter the Bios and choose Hdd as the 1st boot device and press F10.
Then, go to to the Toshiba driver page, choose your model, and download all drivers.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
For now, do what I mentioned above. How to install drivers (driver installation order) and optimize system, I will explain later.

  • Qosmio G30 freezes upon Norton Internet Security 2008 startup

Norton Internet Security 2008 will freeze my computer as soon it tries to load and the only way to go on is to restart the system by pressing the on/off-button.
My notebook is a Toshiba Qosmio G30-177 (Model No. PQG32E-02G022GR) with Vista Ultimate and NIS2007 pre-installed. I have no problems with this NIS2008 version on my other notebook (Qosmio F10 - PQF10E-02300JGR, WinXP MCE).
NIS2007 runs fine on my G30 and I do not have any problems at all, but newer versions of NIS seem to get in conflict with my system:
    1. I am able to install and run the new version, download all updates and adjust the settings. Maybe one or two days later my computer will freeze after start exactly when the tray icon of NIS appears. For a couple of seconds there is just no response of the system at all and the LED's of my notebook show that all HD activity has stopped. After being idle for these couple of seconds, the cooling fan will start to operate at maximum power, creating a tremendous noise I never experienced before, not even while the CPU was running at 100% for some time due to other programs. Forcing a restart is all I can do.
    2. Now this time, I successfully restarted my notebook again (took some attempts) and it suddenly did not freeze. Then I disabled firewall and auto-protect permanently, so there was no freezing upon startup and I just had to manually activate both firewall and auto-protect after start. In order to prevent freezing again after reboot, I always disabled NIS before shutdown. For the next one or two days this workaround was quite successful.
    3. All of a sudden, after one or two days, this workaround is going to become useless, because the system starts to freeze again at the very moment the tray icon appears. In this case, restarting has no effect at all, and NIS will continue to freeze at startup. I also tried to prevent NIS form starting by no longer allowing ccApp.exe to automatically run upon start (administrative tools > system configuration > "startup" tab). This is successful and my notebook is able to start normally, but if I later try to start NIS manually, it will freeze again.
I had this problem since NIS2008 was just released, so I thought that meanwhile a Windows or Norton update might have fixed the issue, but this weekend I gave NIS2008 another try without success. I am almost sure that the problem is not caused by any other software than Windows and/or Norton, because I also tried to install NIS after a full system recovery, thus having only pre-installed NIS2007 and Vista on my notebook. I did use the Norton removal tool and followed the deinstall instructions before trying to install the newer version of course.
My last hope was that the NIS2009beta version somehow would not freeze my system, but it does. It does not matter if I try to run 2008 or 2009beta version, the problem is exactly the same.
What really drives me almost crazy is the fact that NIS runs perfectly for some time, then needs a rather small workaround, and then after some time totally refuses to work. In these couple of days I did not change any system settings, install or deinstall any programs or did anything that I felt could conflict with NIS...
So far, I have no idea of a solution and have to use NIS2007 again.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

    Hi !
I use NIS since 2001 and never had any serious trouble with this software.
There could be some compatibility problem, but I don't think that Vista is causing it, because otherwise a lot more people should have the same problem. Even the installation of all current Windows, NIS and Qosmio updates did not solve it. Of course I tried to get help using Symantec's Support and their user forums, but without success. This problem seems to be a rare one (unfortunately for me). I tested the NIS2009beta and even though it's a new version, the PC freezes again when this program starts. And this made me think that maybe a service or setup by Toshiba causes the problem and other Vista users are not affected. It's a strange thing that the pre-installed NIS2007 version is running fine...
    Cheers,
    Mario

  • How do I get rid of Norton Internet Security?  Migration assistant problem

I have a new MacBook Pro and I used a firewire connection and migration assistant to transfer files. Unfortunately, the assistant transferred all my applications, even the ones I didn't want, like Norton Internet Security, which slowed down my old G4. I deleted all the Norton files, but there are still icons for Norton Auto protect and Norton Quick Menu on my System Preferences menu. I'm afraid they are responsible for the messages I get on booting up saying the system detects Norton but can't open the application. I'm also afraid its the reason that suddenly my new superfast MacPro is less fast. I can't figure out how to delete it from the system preferences - any ideas?

Please let me reassure you. There are NO viruses effecting OSX to date. There was one virus effected OS9 ten years ago, but nothing since. The fear of viruses is a residual effect from using that other OS, which shall remain nameless, but not shameless. The only danger a Mac user faces is, spreading a virus through a network by forwarding junk emails with an infected attachment, not that anybody is that stupid, or are they? If you are using one of the main email providers, Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc, all he attachments are scanned automatically as these organizations cannot afford to have viruses in their systems.
In a nutshell: Relax and enjoy the freedom of using a Mac.
Furthermore: Most ex-users of the nameless OS feel the need to run defrag programs on Macs. Unnecessary! Just leave your Mac turned on overnight and it will do it itself.
You may remember the Mac slogan, 'Think Differently'. Well, Macs do!
    Enjoy your clean install.

  • Problems with the Oracle Home Page (maybe Norton Internet Security)

    Hello Everybody!
Like others messages, I've got problems to see the Oracle 10g Home Page. I can log to the database in SQL Plus perfectly, but not in Home Page. I tried by the following ways:
    http://127.0.0.1:8080
    http://127.0.0.1:1521
    http://{my_ip_adress}:8080
    http://localhost:8080
and I can't display anything. I've got WinXP Professional Edition and Norton Internet Security. I tried to connect changing the options of Norton's Firewall, but the Home Page doesn't work. Somebody has any idea what´s my problem?? If so, tell me please. I've worked many nights in the solution, but the problem still be there.
    Thanks for reading, and replay...
    Mario.

    To diagnose a installation issue:-
    Please provide the following
    1) The output (from the DOS command line) of lsnrctl status
    2) The output (from the DOS command line) of netstat -a
    3) The output (from the SQL Command line) of
    connect / as sysdba;
    select select dbms_xdb.gethttpport() from dual;
Please note that the output of netstat -a can provide information that could be used to compromise your system. If the system is on the network, please upload the output to the upload site.
If this checks out correctly (8080 is the port), then it is a browser issue. These can be legion. Check that you are not going to a proxy server for 127.0.0.1 or host. Check that you are not disabling access to 127.0.0.1 or host in your browser. Check that cookies are enabled. If possible, try a different browser (copy and paste the URL from one to another) Check that the host name you are providing actually resolves to your local machine (ping host)

  • Very slow buffling after changing a software from Norton 360 to Norton Internet Security

When I download movies using "Norton 360", it doesn't take long time. But when movies are downloaded, using "Norton Internet Security", it takes 10 times longer. (For one-hour movie, it takes more than 2 hours to watch it, waiting for very slow~ download/buffling).

Antivirus software is NOT needed if the Mac you are running is only running OS X. Antivirus apps interfere with normal performance and operation of a Mac because they program too many controls into the main OS X system software impacting general performance of your Mac.
Here are some of my tidbits of advice on how to avoid viruses in the future, if you encounter a virus, again.
Some anti-virus solutions can slow down your Mac, but to be honest, the best anit-virus app is you, the user and your brain.
Don't visit questionable websites or website you are unsure about.
Don't use Torrents or engage in "Torrenting"
Don't install pirated software or software downloaded from a questionable or unknown websites or untrutsted sources.
Java is still a vulnerability concern,  if you do not need it, don't use it.
Use a browser filter and pop-up blocker
Don't open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize.
Install security updates when they become available
Educate yourself as to what threats are common and active.
In effect, use your own brain as the antivirus filter.
Follow that advise and in MOST cases, you will be fine and won't risk your Mac to potential Trojans, malware or viruses.
If you feel you need some baseline virus protection that is minimally invasive on the Mac OS X system, install
    ClamXAV
