My Numbers document icons have turned black. Help?

The document icons for my Numbers documents have turned a horizontal-streaked black color. (Kind of like the output from a very defective copy machine.) I have tried resaving the documents both without and with changes, but the icons don't change. Quick Look and Cover Flow work OK, but in the icon view the icons are ugly black. How can I restore the icons to showing the tiny previews of the documents?

Hello
ctrl + click on the icon of such a file.
In the contextual menu, select "Show Bundle's contents"
You will open the package and see
two subfolders: one named "Contents" and one named "QuickLook"
Double click this late one.
You will see a jpeg icon entitled "Thumbnail.jpg"
Double click on it.
If it displays sadly it's that the Thumbnail.jpg file is corrupted. Trash it.
If it displays correctly you are encountering a problem with the system, not with the document.
And alas, in this case, I have no idea.
Trashing the Launch Services databases would be meaningless as you are not trying to display the standard icons but the thumbnail one.

This might be caused by service conflict, I suggest to perform a clean boot in this way:
1.Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
2.Type msconfig in the search box, and then tap or click msconfig.
3.On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
4.On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.
5.On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.
6.Close Task Manager.
7.On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.

CS6 all the preference menus have turned black

I can no longer read the preference menus as all the backgrounds have turned black. The text font does not show up.
I can't work out how to change the background to grey so I can read the text (or the text to grey).
Getting very angry!

CHANGING THE INTERFACE COLOR SCHEME:
The Photoshop CS6 default interface is dark, but if you prefer the lighter interface you are used to from earlier versions,
you can change it back in the appearance area. There are 4 default color themes.
Mac Photoshop > Preferences > Interface
Windows Edit > Preferences > Interface

Some of the apps I downloaded have turned black and says "waiting" on the bottom. What is going on?

The app downloads have stalled on you for some reason and they are in a waiting state and that is why you are seeing "waiting" under the icons. The apps are useless unless you can delete them and download them again, or complete the downloads.
I have posted theses suggestions many times in the past, and some of these suggestions have worked for other users. Give them a try in the order in which they are typed.
1. Tap the "waiting" icon and see if you can pause it. If it does pause, then tap it again and see if it will resume. If that works, repeat the same steps for each "waiting" icon.
2. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
3. Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes. If you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
4. If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
5. You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again. Apps may also be able to be deleted in Settings>General>Usage>Storage if you cannot get the X to pop up on the icon.
6. You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
7. If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

Best bet might be to try opening them using LibreOffice [free] and save them to .doc.
Do you really want to save them as .pages files? You are jumping from the frypan into the fire. Yet another proprietary format that Apple has again deadended with no working translation.

Report it to the police. Report it to your wireless service provider. Attempt to use BB Protect to wipe it clean. Outside of that, there is nothing to be done. If your personal issues prevent you from carrying this out, then you must consider all of your data on your BB to be compromised.

All my icons, in Icon view, have become lighter, and I have no idea why. The text below the icons is still the same brightness level, as is the desktop backgrounds, it's only the icons that are lighter. The only icons that have not changed are my hard drive icons.
I have tried recreating the icons (with Pic2Icon and CoocoThumbX) and nothing. I opened a folder of all JPGs and set the view options to show a preview, no difference. When I set to list view, all the icons appear fine (right color, brightness). When I set to column view, icons appear light again, but when I select a file, in the preview, the icon looks fine.
There are also a flurry of .DS_Store files popping up, and my HD has a bunch of new folders, or folders I assume used to be hidden.
The only recent change was I was trying out BchunkerFE, which is a GUI of BinChunker, a utility to convert .bins to .iso. Didn't work, but I'm wondering if that's the issue. Have already dumped the program in the trash.
I imagine there has to be some command line trick to affect all directories view options that's beyond the little GUI view options. Or I'm a moron and missed something stupid obvious. I do photo work and live and die by these thumbs, so any help would be awesome. Any ideas?

I don't think this will address the brighter icons issue though.
Some general things to try and report back on:
Restart the computer.
Restart the computer into safe mode by holding down the shift key at startup. Are things still wrong?
Restart the computer again normally. If Safe Mode worked are they bad again?
Start the computer in a different account.

Icons, mouse pointer, turned black on my Macbook

I'm running Leopard on my Macbook and I noticed that lately my mouse pointer has turned to an all solid black pointer hand when I mouse over links. Also when I goto shutdown I notice a big black circle appears in the shutdown prompt. Also icons like the webcam icon have turned a solid black in Yahoo Messenger .. Did i get a virus or something?

You may want to repair permissions and the disk. You might also want to try reinstalling the software.

Can't convert MOV to AVI - turns black

hi all,
i've converted thousands of files to AVI from MOV's....suddenly, when i convert them, they turn black
i ususally convert from Uncompressed MOV to Uncompressed (using NONE codec) AVI and no problems.
but now, the file just turns black
help/????

Use MPEG Streamclip. It is free. 3GP format is usually for phones so you may want to try that, admittedly pretty tiny blocky video. MPEG Streamclip does export to AVI though you need to know what codec the Treo supports. The is because AVI is not a codec it is a container like MOV and can have any combo of video and audio in it. You can have an AVI with a clip with WMV video and MP3 audio or H264 video and AAC audio and the possibilities are endless.

White text turning black/grey in Safari 3.1/3.2

I have a very odd problem I have not been able to find the answer to anywhere else. I have created a website that has white text on dark blue background. It looks fine in all other browsers except for Safari 3.1 and 3.2. All of the <p> tags have turned black/grey. I am completely stumped.

I haven't looked at your stylesheet, but lots of errors reported by the validator in your stylesheet that you may want to fix..

Do not worry about the errors being reported for the spry stylesheet where it refers to the iframe - they always throw an error, it's the others you have to worry about.

I have an icloud account and can access my numbers documents on my Mac at home and iphone by clicking directly on the numbers icon. However I now have a macbook air but I cant access the documents by clicking the numbers icon - am I missing something ?
