My Office for Mac 2008 disk has a scratch in the paper on the top. When I load it in my MacBook Pro the drive makes a low pitched beep? Can I repair the surface ( the bottom is fine and it is not cracked). Are there any other options.

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro which has been working fine. Had to reformat HD and reload software. Am using Mountain Lion which MS said supports Office Mac 2008. When loading it the drive ran then began making a low frequency beep, then ejected the disk. Upon inspection I see a scratch in the paper on the top of the disk, but there is no crack and the bottom surface is clean without scratches.
I assume this problem is from this damage. If so what can I do to repair it so it will work in the drive.

DVD drives read the bottom of the disk, not the top. Smooth out the paper & try again.

I'm going to assume the consolidating files does not work due to hard drive space limitations.
Since you're moving to Windows 7, have you tried using the Windows files and settings transfer utility? That will move everything for you to the same location on the new computer, it also allows some control over what actually gets moved.
Alternatively, if you know the location of all of the media, it can be manually moved by copying it from the old computer to the new computer in the same location.
Also, using the Apple article on moving the library, take a slight twist on what it says. Move the iTunes library to the external drive, update the settings in iTunes to reflect the library being on the external drive, then consolodate it.
The options are endless for moving the library... it simply takes a little effort to make it happen and possibly a twist on existing "standard" methods depending on your unique situation.

Oh no! I am saddened to hear that you are having troubles with your MMS pictures. I know that this can be an important thing to be able to do. I appreciate you working with us to get this matter resolved as well. I see that you have spent time working with us, and I know that can also be frustrating. There are a few things we can check though. Are these to any specific numbers or all? A factory reset certainly should've resolved this. Sorry no, if you don't knnow the encrypted password, then you can't use that backjup.

It sounds like you bought a jailbroken phone (assuming you didn't jailbreak it yourself). Take it back for a refund.

It sounds like your Keyboard might be damaged. I wouldn't do anything without first getting a USB Keyboard and see if that lets your Applications run like they are suppose to.

There are two kinds of storage messages that appewr on iOS devices. Your question seems at odds with your description so there might be some confusion here.
If the storage refers to not enough for an icloud back up then you need to purchase more icloud space or turn off iCloud backup. You can backup using iTunes on your computer with paying for additional iCloud storage.
if the storage refers to that on your iOS device as in there is not enough storage to update, then you have two options and neither option involves adding more storage since the amount of storage on an iOS devoce is fixed. One option is to delete stuff from your device to free up more space. The second option is to complete the update while your devoce is connected to your computer running the latest version of iTunes. When you do that the update is downloaded to your computer and extracted there so it doesn't require as much free space on your iOS device.

You could purchase any commonly available external USB DVD/CD writer, such as the excellent LG brand units sold on Amazon, for about $30 US. I've used an LG writer for years to save wear and tear on my older Superdrive.

A major problem arises when the Flash presentation is in the entire browser window, though. And for what it's worth, my choice would be (and is) LibreOffice, which I've used for about a year with nearly complete satisfaction. Last time I tried it three or four years ago, OpenOffice had the ugly, unrefined appearance of a Windows application; it had no Mac interface at all. That might actually be comforting to someone coming to the Mac from Windows, but as a 27-year Mac user, I hated it. I don't know whether OO has gotten a facelift in the intervening years.
The intermediate step between OO and LO was NeoOffice, which I used for several years. It was OpenOffice with a Mac face, and I liked it well enough. LibreOffice is its further evolution, more compatible with the latest MS Office files.

I received Office for Mac 2011 disc last Nov and have installed it.
I now have both Office for Mac 2008 and 2011 on the Mac. How do I uninstall the 2008 version????

In addition, try looking in the Microsoft Office folder in your Applications folder. Some Office 2008 uninstallers are located there.
Office for Mac has said that there is nothing wrong with having both versions on your system. While this would allow you to have both Entourage and Outlook email support, I do not really trust what they have said, as I think it could cause issues down the road.

Migrated all apps ok except Office for Mac 2008

I just bought a new iMac and migrated all data from my old Mac using Migration Assistant. Everything works fine except for Office for Mac 2008. When I try to open eg a s/sheet (Excel being the default app) Microsoft setup assistant wants to set up accounts etc. If I try and register the product it takes me to Microsoft Office 2011 purchase sitE which I don't want. Any ideas how to get 2008 working on the new iMac?

How to help my friend install Microsoft Office for Mac 2008

Hello, I have a friend in North Carolina whose mom recently got a MacBook Pro running OS X Mountian Lion (10.8), he will be coming on to join this discussion after I post it. He needs Microsoft Office for his mom and I just happened to have purchase 3 licenses (two of which I have already utilized). While talking to him over a Facetime call, I walked him through the steps of getting the free office for mac 2008 package from download.com (which seemed kind of sketchy). While the download actually looked legitimate, we ran the installer and it gave some kind of weird error message that said something like "Could not be installed onto Macintosh HD because the Mac OS X is not on that parition" (I'm paraphrasing my friend will contribute the actual message). Could someone please walk us through an easier (and preferably more secure) process? We just need to get to the point where I can give him my last license key. Thanks!

You will have to check with Microsoft but I think what you are doing is illegal. The 3 license pack I think means 1 user 3 computers, not 2 users 3 computers.
