My old computer crashed before I could deauthorise it.

I had an iMac G5 that totally crashed without the itunes being deauthorised before I sold it to an enthusiast. It still wasn't working when I sold it.
How do I deathorise that computer?

You don't until you have reached the max of 5 authorized computers.

  • My old computer crashed before I could de-install cloud - how do I get it on my new computer?

I got Creative Cloud through my school last semester. Just a month ago, my computer crashed and I had to have my hard drive replaced, losing my entire creative cloud. I got a new computer and tried to reinstall cloud but when I put in my depemption it says that its already been redeemed. Which, I would expect, since I was never able to deactivate cloud on my last harddrive.
How do I go about getting the programs onto my computer now?

You simply sign in with your Adobe ID in CC app. There is no need to run the redemption procedure just for a reinstall. If you need to reset activations, contact support by web chat.

Do you at least have your music, videos, photos etc on an ipod?

  • My computer crashed before I could unsync my iPod!

Alright, so, my computer crashed before I could unsync my iPod from the iTunes installed on it and before I could save my music to CD. It's now dead and long gone-- a hopeless cause.
IS THERE ANY WAY TO MOVE THE MUSIC FROM MY IPOD TO MY NEW LAPTOP?
And to transfer the new things on my laptop to my iPod?
    Someone PLEASE help.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • HT1727 My old computer died before i could put my new itunes purchases on it. Is there anyway to get them to my new computer? The hard drive somehow fried and is of no use.

I had just purchased like $30 worth of new songs and my old computer. two days later it died on me before i could upload them onto my ipod touch. i tired to get geek squad at best buy to transfer all of my music from my old computer to the new one but they said it could not be done since i somehow fried the hard drive. so i was wondering if there is anyway to get at least my newly purchased songs back? i got my old purchased songs off of the ipod i just want the new ones.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your comptuer for this very reason.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Old computer died before I could deauthorize- help!

I had iTunes set up on a Windows XP system. I had recently bought materials that I had not backed up to a cd, and I have about 15 bucks left on a gift card. My computer died.
I bought a Windows Vista system, and now I see that I had to set up a transfer of purchases and deauthorize my old computer... how can I do that when it's dead???
Am I totally out of luck here? What can I do to save all of my purchased music? If I have to reload all of my CD's, that's fine by me. I just want my 90 some purchased songs and I want what's left of the gift card.

You can't deauthorise a 'dead' installation on it's own, however you can authorise your new computer without deauthotising the old one. Also once you reach the limit of 5 authorisations, you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go which will eventaully take care of the "lost" authorisation: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Computer crashed before I could sync new songs onto ipod

I was wondering if there is a way to effectively "repurchase" the songs I just bought, without actually paying again. I purchased a bunch and burned them onto a CD before I lost my entire Itunes library in a crash. Unfortunately, that CD has some sound quality issues, I think because I burned it at maximum speed, my bad.
I feel like Itunes should be allowing me to get those songs without having to sync them from my Ipod, as in, I go into my Itunes Store purchase history and put those all on my "new" library. Is this just wishful thinking?

You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so: iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • IPod is disabled and last synched computer crashed before I could connect my iPod

My iPod Touch says iPod is disabled try again in 22 048 694 minutes. No idea why as I did not enter the password incorrectly so many times. I cannot sync the iPod with last laptop it was synched with as it crashed and is not repairable. I now try with a newly authorised pc and it says that the pin code on the device must be entered which is not possible since it is disabled.
Please help if you know what I can try.
    Thank you.
Found the answer right after submitting the question - thanks anyway

Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore.  You will have to restore to a "new" iPod since you do not have a backup.  You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • New computer, old computer crashed, I cannot see my music folder on my ipod

My old computer crashed, so I could not deauthorize it with itunes. I read instructions about moving my music folder off my ipod to my C drive on the new computer's music folder, but I cannot see any music folder when I go to "My Computer" and look at my ipod. Any thoughts?

    1. Open My Computer
    2. Click Tools
    3. Click Folder Options...
    4. Click the View tab
    5. Under Hidden Files and Folders, select Show Hidden Files and Folders
    6. Click OK
I'm pretty sure that these directions are useless because all of the music on your iPod is protected. In order to copy it to your computer, you will need software that does it for you. You cannot just drag it all in.
I see that you are using Windows Vista... I'm not sure whether that will change whether you can copy your music or if it will change my directions on how to show the music folder.

  • Old computer crashed, restored data to new computer from Carbonite, how do I restore bookmarks?rt my bookmarks from carbonite?

My old computer crashed. Fortunately I had Carbonite and was able to restore my data to a new computer, but I have not been able to import or restore or transfer my bookmarks.
I went Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks/Import & Backup, then tried both "Restore." The Restore showed several dated backups but in spite of the message "This will replace all your current bookmarks" it did not. Next time around I tried: "Import Bookmarks from HTML." But I could not find where the the bookmark folder was located.

The reason behind the above questions is that, if you started Firefox before restoring your backup, you probably have a differently named settings folder (Firefox profile folder).
I'm going to assume for the moment that your Carbonite restore used the same folder paths you had on your old Windows 7/Windows Vista computer. If it was a Windows XP computer, the following won't lead you to the right place.
To find other settings folders, try the following. From within Firefox:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
This is your currently active folder. Navigate up a level to the Profiles folder. Do you see other folders? Do any of them have recent .json backups in their bookmarkbackups folders? This would be where to point the Restore dialog to get your bookmarks.

  • My old computer crashed and i just purchased a new laptop. How do i get my library on my new computer without erasing all the songs on my ipod?

    ?

If ALL your music is on the iPod and it's ALL iTunes purchased content, you log into iTunes with your account on th enew machine and reverse sycn the music back.
If the music is from cd's and other sources (not iTunes files) then ask over at iLounge what third party solution currently works. (can't recommond it here)
I have some HUGE instructions here how to get your music off the old comptuer too:
    Recovery options:
    A: If Windows isn't booting:
You need to boot the computer from a "recovery disk or USB" that has a operating system on it and a graphical user interface to transfer files from your boot drive to a external drive.
I suggest using the Easy USB Installer to install Ubuntu 10.10 onto a 2-4 GB USB key.
    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
    or
burn a ISO of Ubuntu 10.10 or PartedMagic to a cd-r with ImgBurn or Win 7 right click and burn
You can use Disk Utility in OS X to select the ISO and burn to cd/dvd as well.
Once you have it installed, consult this page for your BIOS boot key to hold to get into the BIOS.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/biosaccess_pc.htm
Plug the USB into the back (if possible) of the computer, connect the external drive and enter the BIOS, set the USB (or CD) as first boot and SAVE.
Boot off the USB/CD and "Try Ubuntu/Run from disk" DON'T INSTALL. (Parted Magic loads into RAM and ejects CD)
Once in, go under the menu Places > Computer and transfer your files to the external drive just like you would in Windows, drag and drop.
(If using Parted Magic double click on the Mount Drive left icon twice, use the two GUI windows to transfer files to external drive, unmount drives, log out/quit in the lower left corner menu option)
B: If the computer hardware isn't working, but the drive might still work:
You'll have to remove the power cord and manually extract the hard drive. This might result in some damage.
There is a powered IDE/SATA to USB adapter for sale online for $20 that you can take that internal hard drive and use it like a external drive to access your files from another Windows machine.
C: If your iTunes content is deleted...
It might be recoverable if it hasn't been overwritten yet by fresh data. Undelete software works by reading the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, not what the OS says.
You need to use undelete software pre-installed before the iTunes content was deleted, or while on a bootable cd/USB and a external drive to transfer the recovered files.
You can also install undelete type software on a new machine and USE STEP B above to "undelete" the files and recover them directly to the new computer.
You can't install undelete software or recover files to the same drive your attempting to recover from or it overwrites the deleted data.
D: If the hard drive doesn't work and...
The data isn't worth spending $2000-$3000 in a ATTEMPT at platter dissection recovery, then your finished
If the data on the drive was encrypted, data recovery efforts may be futile, unless it's a encypted file and you transfer it successfuly and have the password to de-crypt it.
E: If you have a "iDevice" with any content
It can be synced back into iTunes, check at iLounge what third party software works reliably now and for your version.
(Once you log into your iTunes account, you can sync ONLY iTunes purchased content back from a iDevice)
Third party software can recover just about all the items on a iDevice, regardless of it's origin. (can't recommend such software here)
F: If any of the above is too hard, or the data is of "critical importance"
Then seek professional computer or forensic level recovery services.
Get help from someone who has done this sort of thing repeatly and can almost guaranty 100% results.
There is Linux software that can "rip" all data off a iOS device if that level of attention is needed, seek a professional service.
Hope this helps in your data recovery efforts.
Please, backup your data, it's the only thing us IT professionals can't recover.

My computer crashed before I was able to deactivate my Visual Communicator 3 software.  Please help!  I have my disc, but cannot activate my program again.  I have projects that I cannot access. Please help!

I wish I could help, but I am in a similar situation.
I need to deactivate it because we are getting rid of the computer it is on and are buying a new one. When I go to Help there is no Deactivate option. The only options are: "Help", "Hide Coach", "Tip of the Day", "Adobe Website", "Technical Support Website", "Frequently Asked Questions", "Check for Updates", "Register", "Download e-License..." (Greyed out), "Return e-License..." (Greyed out) and "About Adobe Visual Communicator 3". I spoke with support through chat and they said my product was no longer supported.

  • My PC crashed before I could get an iTunes Export

My PC crashed before I could get an iTunes export and now I have a new Mac, I want to transfer everything to my Mac, but I have not been able to get it to work. I have access to the backup that has my most recent iTunes before my crash (now two months old) but when ever I connect my iPhone it says it wants to erase the device and then add when I have attempted to restore.
Is there any way to get it to sync? I have newer apps on the iPhone that are not on my iTunes because of the crash, and I do not want to loose them.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
